They're nice, but they def got more money out of me than I should've paid for a simple oil change. I was told on the phone an oil change for my Subaru Impreza would be $44, but wound up paying $65 (service fees). The mechanic said he put synthetic oil in my car (and that's what the car manufacturer booklet says also). The lady at the counter told me my car took a special hybrid oil and I was a bit confused based on my conversation w the mechanic but didn't have the energy to get into it. I looked at the receipt and it def stated synthetic oil change $44, but with $21 of service fees! Ridiculous. The 10% coupon is nothin if they inflate w extra hidden fees. If these gas prices weren't so high I would've taken my car to my regular mechanic in Raleigh who I trust. Next time I know. Not worth the money. read more

Both of my daughters take their vehicles here, after having gone through several other local service centers and dealerships. One has a VW, the other a Honda Fit, but I'm still under warranty with my current vehicle. But seeing their smiles when I pick them up and they've just paid out is a good sign in my book. read more

The people working there were very friendly and nice. They were able to answer all my questions even my curiosity ones about where the inspection payment goes to etc. etc. The service was speedy, I went on a Friday morning and lucky me the people ahead of me were already serviced and they got right to my inspection. It took 20minutes tops. Last year there were a few cars ahead of me and they just gave me time to shop :) I love that the location is a minute walk from the mall. Another plus about the location is the DMV is also walking distance away so it's so convenient to get your registration all done in one go! Northgate Auto Service - Where the customer is always an inconvenience. My first experience with them was quite good, but that was a few months ago. Coming back was a mistake. This time around, I had an 8:00 appointment, so I dropped off my car at 7:45 and took a walk. At 8:40 I saw that my car was still in the parking lot. When I made the appointment, the nice lady on the phone told me it'd be 2 or 2 1/2 hours, certainly no more than 3 hours to replace my shocks and struts. Well, one hour had already passed, so I asked the mechanic how much longer. He said that when they finished the car they were working on, mine was next, and they'd work me up a price and time estimate then. I asked him why I'd even made an appointment since I'd already been waiting an hour. He replied that they weren't there an hour ago. Please note that they open at 7:30. It's right here on Yelp. I told him I didn't appreciate being called a liar. He replied that he didn't call me a liar. I didn't mention that his statement qualified as the second time he'd called me a liar in a span of about 15 seconds. Then he said, "It's 8:41." Yep, and since I got there at 7:45, he was right. I'd only been waiting 56 minutes. Waiting for 56 minutes does not qualify as waiting for an hour, so I congratulated him on busting me for that. And yes, I was probably on my way out the door anyway, but I really didn't need the attitude. So I took my keys and left, and will be visiting a different mechanic next week. One who knows what an appointment is, and who perhaps realizes that berating customers doesn't really qualify as good customer service. They should probably teach that in customer service school, since presumably it's not common sense. read more

I really appreciate these guys for being straight up with estimates. They will also work with you if you buy your own parts at Auto Zone. A competitor in town will charge you about $100.00 just to hook your car up to a computer for diagnostic reviews of your car. The lady on the phone was nice but the website is misleading. I had my car towed there because the website and the lady on the phone said they could repair and service my Mini but after learning the problem was an all day job said they don't have the man power??! Ok fine but then you should have my car towed to someone who does. Now my car is stuck there until I can find someone who can really fix it, I have to pay for another tow, and still find someone to fix a very expensive problem with my car. This was a waste of my time and money. When I suggested they should have my car towed the lady was a little less nice. I pointed out the website was not true and should be changed she said she would mention it to her boss. And hung up. We really like Northgate Auto. We used them when we used to live in Durham (2007 - 2011) and loved them then, and have gone back to them now that we're back in town, and they're as good as ever. They seem to be very honest, even recommending against repairs that would have been good business for them, just because the car was becoming a money pit and they recognized that. Their fees are also quite reasonable, if not borderline cheap. Super happy, definitely recommend them to friends. read more

Do NOT take your car here. As a college student, I thought I would be getting fair service and not get swindled. Over the course of 2.5 years, trips to Northgate left my Jeep in worse condition than before. Every time I left, something else went wrong that they claimed they hadn't touched. Examples: Charged arm & leg to fix AC system, it stopped working after 3mo. Charged even more to redo rear brake system, immediately after leaving, my wheels start knocking because the lug nuts were not tightened, leaving me on a highway with a wheel about to fall off. The owner then tried to gaslight me, saying someone had stolen my lug nuts off while the car had been parked. Cherry on top: 1 month later, the brake system failed altogether and damaged my emergency brakes, again endangering my life as I was driving down the highway. This place overcharges, oversells, and under-delivers. read more

I made an appointment here to get my car inspection done. The receptionist told me it would take 30 minutes, which worked well since I had another appointment an hour later. Well 45 minutes after I arrived, I asked how much longer they were going to take and they hadn't even started working on my car yet. The receptionist was then rude as if I was acting like some sort of diva. Look, I understand if you're busy, but then don't lie to me saying it will only take 30 minutes if it's really more like 90.
