Went there in March 2025 to get tires rotated and balanced and found out that I had to get new tires. They were right, of course, but inconveniently my tires were no longer being sold, so I had to move to a different brand and model. So far, they are riding well. Service person was very good (although they really try to exploit the hydroplaning fear to get you to buy tires). The price for the tires seems to be ok for what I got but that remains to be seen. However, I am not sure why they blare country music in the waiting area for their customers. I am open to all genres of music, but it was excruciating! EXCEPTIONAL customer service. I blew a tire out on the freeway in the pouring rain and was stranded on the side of the road for over 2 hours since AAA decided not to send proper assistance. After sitting there for two hours, a nice police officer pulled over and called a tow truck who drove me to discount tire. During that time I called this place three times to confirm that they had a tire for me since I was visiting from out of town and had a business event that evening and needed to leave tomorrow morning for a flight. It took an extra 3 days longer than expected for them to arrive, with no communication on why there was a delay. Today my wife went in for her appointment to have them be installed. If took them 3.5 hours to replace 4 tires. All she heard was excuses on why it took so long. People that came in after her, left before she did and did not have an appointment. When she got back in the car there was dirty fingerprints on the seat/stearing wheel and the radio was very loud playing a station she does not listen too. This location is busy and the staff is friendly and helpful. This location utilizes a system via text called the journey tracker. It's a step by step notification process to keep the customer updated on their service. A friend of mine highly recommended this business and the advantage I gleaned was having life time tire rotations and that they have locations everywhere. I ordered tires online and the manager helped me determine which tires would work best for my car prior to placing the order. Upon check-in the manager inspected my wipers front and back and stated they needed replacing. I was fine with that as I knew they were not working optimally. They informed me how long the wait would be and having the ability to check the status of the install was helpful. I did check around for pricing and they are competitive and want your business. I ordered a set of new tires online on a Thursday afternoon and the estimated ship date was the following Monday. I scheduled the tire installation for a few days after that. I received a call the day after I ordered the tires that the shop already received the tires. I confirmed that my appointment would still work for them the following week and they said yes. On the day of my appointment, I arrived at 12:15pm and parked in a parking space since I assumed they would pull my car into one of the bays when they were ready. I walked into the shop and was immediately greeted by 2 of the assistant managers. They got me checked in, took my keys and walked outside to do a quick inspection of my vehicle with me. They estimated that the tire installation would take about an hour to an hour and 10 minutes. They did ask if I wanted new windshield wipers and I figured I might as well add it since it's been a while since I replaced them. I opted to wait at the store while my tires were being installed. I decided to just bring my laptop to get some work done. I sat by the window so I could see the progress on the tire installation. They also texted a link to a status tracker which was nice. Before they began servicing my car, the tracker had an estimated time of 12:47 but then got updated to 12:38 when it was in the bay I was out of there by 12:40 pm. Not gonna lie, I was a bit worried about coming here after seeing some bad reviews. But I'm very satisfied with the service, cost and time. Had a great experience at this Discount Tire location. We had gotten a flat tire and brought it in to be repaired. They did the repair free of charge and also put the tire back onto our car, as a courtesy!! They said it would be done in an hour and a 1/2. And it was exactly ready when we pulled up. Everybody was very friendly from the gentleman who logged us in, to the a nice guy who finished up the service and gave us our keys back. Since that time, all sets of tires purchased for both my car and my wife's car have come exclusively from Discount Tire. In general, service is consistently good to great and prices are reasonable. In addition to repairing and replacing tires, Discount Tire offers free rotation and balance for the life of your tires (if you purchase from them), and free drive-up air checks too. Note: They do not do alignments or any other car work. If you buy your next set of tires from Discount Tire, I highly recommend purchasing tire certificates - one for each tire. They're officially known as "Certificates for Repair, Refund or Replacement." They don't cost much and they're worth it. If you have certificates, you're covered -- if anything happens to your tires, Discount Tire will repair or replace them for free. No questions asked. I've had multiple tires either repaired or replaced over the years so the certificates have more than paid for themselves. They're great for peace of mind too. The estimated completion time on my invoice was 12:17 PM. Over six years and nearly 30 visits now to the Smyrna location, I can think of one, maybe two times, when I had to wait that long. Most of the time, my visits to the Smyrna location have been lightning quick (one reason I became a fan of Discount Tire). I hope the delay I experienced at this location isn't the norm. At the Smyrna location, I always have to remind the guys to not the stack the wheel weights because they can rub against my brake calipers. I did the same here and they didn't overlook it. I also asked them to check the air in my spare tire. This was typed in the notes, but the guys who worked on my car overlooked it. When I was told that my car was almost ready, I asked if they checked the air in my spare and they said they had overlooked it. It was a good thing I asked. I do have to stay on top of Discount Tire for little things like that because they can forget (and I can too). I'll be back. There are two Discount Tire stores in Durham. This one is located closer to Chapel Hill, near the southwest side of the city, in the South Square shopping center (Target, Sam's Club). You can walk around the shopping center while you wait. Brought a tire in for a patch. When the tire was being taken off the rim the bead was damaged. We were told it was damaged when we came in. After talking with other tire places we took it back prepared to present evidence and call witnesses. We asked to speak with the senior manager. Brian came out looked at the tire and we began to plead our case. He said "I'm going to let you tell the story but we will replace the tire" 30 seconds is all it took and no argument. I went to Discount Tire to have my tires inflated. They found a nail in each of my rear tires. In the end they removed one of the nails and inflated my tires and didn't charge me--which was fantastic. However, their service representative who looked at my tires (James) before repairing them, told me I needed new tires and tried to sell me a new set for $1100. It was hard sell with a lot of pressure. I almost bought them but decided to wait until the following week as the expense was not budgeted for. Good thing. When I had my car serviced the following week they told me that "No way do you need new tires." So I took my car to another reputable tire vendor and asked them. No way they said; you have at least another two rotations on these tires before you need to purchase new ones." So, beware of Discount Tires and get a second opinion before you buy. Have been here a couple times everything has been OK. But today October 29th had an appointment for tires rotation, my appointment previously was for two vehicles, but I call at 12 PM to let them know that one of the cars was not gonna be able to get the service done because it was getting delayed with another service that it was getting done. When I got there I talk to this male which I didn't get his name at 2:00 PM tall, skinny, white with a big ass pimple in his face with no good customer service vibe, serious as hell. I start explaining to him that I had an appointment for two different vehicles, but I called about two hours ago letting them know that one of the vehicles wasn't gonna be getting the service, but I was keeping the appointment at 2:15 for same service and the car I brought was under some else name and another phone number which is my ex-husband, but I didn't say who it was cause I felt it was unnecessary. New in town but I'm a DT customer from my home state. Got a flat and was driving on a donut for two days and couldn't wait to get my tire fixed. I came to this location late due to work and family life and fully expected when I pulled up at 5:30 to be told they couldn't service me due to closing soon. That was not the case the manager I'm assuming immediately greeted me and examined my car and said no matter what my tire would get fixed today even though there we're probably 4 people ahead of me and it was 5:30. I was so grateful!!! Not only did this place exceed my expectations the crew working on the tires had great customer service skills and worked their As's off!! If I could have tipped the crew I would! I do suggest that tipping be an option for customers on their receipts since not everyone carry's cash. I have been coming to this Discount Tire for several years for all of my vehicles. They always have great customer service and have my vehicles completed in 45 minutes or less. I had another successful visit again today, this time putting some 1st time GoodYear Wrangler's on my RAM 1500. Before arriving this morning I spoke on the phone with Duke. He was very friendly and extremely helpful. He took the time to tell me about all of the tires and pricing for my truck. Several times I asked him to repeat info. and he was so very patient with me as I tried to narrow down what I wanted. After deciding on the tires I wanted, Duke offered to schedule an appointment for me which was so convenient. Upon arrival, I was greeted and immediately helped, Duke was helping another customer when I arrived, but he did take a minute to say hello to me. The gentleman who did end up helping me was just as friendly and helpful as Duke was. I wish I had asked his name so I could acknowledge him in this review because his customer service skills were fantastic. While I waited for my new tires I walked over to Target, when I returned 40 minutes later my car was ready and waiting for me. In closing, this Discount Tire is fantastic! They have great service, great pricing, are always speedy... the best part about buying your tires here is that you get free tire inflation, free tire rotation, and tire certificates that will allow you to get your tires repaired or replaced anywhere there is a Discount Tire in the US if they get damaged. Guys, it's so hard to find a service center that doesn't make you even more stressed about your car-- I.e: first it's the damage and the denial/why me phase-- then it's the bargaining phase where you have to shop around for the best price for the parts etc-- then lastly it's acceptance that you need your car to work (whether that's with replacing your tires or getting it serviced) so you hold your head, bite your tongue, and swipe your credit card-- while simultaneously praying the service center does a good job and you don't have any more issues. Well, discount tire-- this location is the only one I've ever gone to-- has the best manager and staff! The moment I pulled up, with one flat and one tire that was about to bust, brand new (less than 4,000 Miles) Michelin tires-- yes I know, I was pulling my hair-- after they were officially closed, they welcomed me with open arms. With smiles on their faces, never even mentioned they were closed by the way, told me to pull on up and they will take care of me. And boy did they. They rotated my tires around so that the 2 new tires could be on the same axle, they cleaned and shined all the tires, they made me smile while my eyes teared up about how I felt stuck because I needed tires right away, the timing sucked, and essentially I had no choice but to pay for whatever was in stock. I couldn't shop around and find a better price-- i just did not have that luxury of time-- but honestly, after leaving from here, I realized I didn't need to shop around for the best price. Coming here was the best choice. They were truly there for me -- because all the other shops were either closed, or didn't have the tire size I needed. Not even used. As the name suggests, this place is all about the discount. They really try to earn your business while keeping the prices as low as possible. If you love to haggle (within reason), this could be the next closest thing to a world/flea market/bazaar right in your own backyard, but more civil. My tires were "extra" bald - kind of like Patrick Stewart (or even Charles Barkley) bald - the kind of baldness that just isn't sexy even for a geeky sci-fi fan. If you've got a car that requires pricey tires...you could be out of luck trying to save a few bucks. So...being the consummate bargain hunter I aspire to be, I shopped around....online for the tires I needed. This might be common sense for others, but here's my stupid flowchart for the newbies: 1. read reviews of tires at tirerack.com, 2. decide on tire, 3. get price quote from tirerack.com, 4. get price quote from local stores, 5. compare prices, 6. (optional) haggle for price, and 7. purchase order and install. Easy, huh? In actuality it's not that bad. Step 3 is my reference price. Since Tirerack is online, they usually have the lowest prices around, but it takes time and it's more of a hassle to purchase and install b/c they have to ship it directly to you. DT is all in-house and you pretty much have free check pressure, balance and rotation services on the life of your tires. Step 4 usually takes the longest time - waiting for responses and/or talking to individuals. I only called/emailed DT and Colony Tires. My price experience (yours may vary depending on the tire)? Colony is high, DT is in the middle and Tirerack is the lowest. I've had a bit of experience with DT elsewhere. So the location and my experience made it a natural choice for me. Once armed with my new found knowledge (I printed out a sheet of the price quotes), I approached DT and asked if they would price match (they do). It was a no brainer. They had to order the tires (Continental Extreme Contact DWS) I wanted from CA, but who cares? It would have been the same elsewhere. Plus, I have the convenience of having them check my tires locally and nationally (they have tons of storefronts all over the US) if I have any problems. One warning, DT will try to up sell you on all sorts of warranties and coverages. I do think some of these can be worth it - depending on your experience and luck. I've been fine in the past and just go without the extra coverage stuff. Maybe if I spent $1000+ on my tires, I might consider it, but I haven't reached that price point yet. So take it or leave it as you see fit - these are all optional even though they try to sell you on it. Service (like most car places) can be time consuming. They try to estimate a time (typically 30-40 minutes). Your best bet is to schedule it and go run errands across the street while it's being done. Walk ins are accepted, but it's hit or miss depending on how busy they are. The waiting area is clean and there are plenty of chairs with all the latest magazines to read. If you don't want to wait inside sniffing the rubber fumes, just go across the street to someplace like Carolina Ale House and wait there. Overall I saved about $100 by doing this. No bad, but super kudos for DT for being friendly and super easy to haggle with. I still like their service and I think this location (outside of the one my parents go to in Houston) is one of the friendliest I've been to. 4 stars for matching my price quote, great service, and free lifetime services (rotation and balance). read more

I remember 20 years ago when this place was top notch; but over the years it has gone downhill. It used to take 20 minutes to have 4 new tires put on your vehicle, now it takes 40 minutes. If they tell you that it will be an hour wait, count on 2 hours. The last time I made an appointment it took 2 hours before they drove my car into a bay. The last time I took a flat tire, that was off the car, to get it repaired, it took 2 hours and 45 minutes. Everyone in the garage seems to be in slow motion, and there is no garage foreman anymore; or if there is then he is never around. One day I walked into the garage at 1:30 pm in the afternoon to retrieve something and the place was empty; not a soul to be found. It must have been siesta time. There are 5 people inside the check-in area hovering over 2 counters; when 3 of them need to be helping in the garage. Whoever is in charge of this place doesn't understand how to run an efficient business, because this Durham/Chapel Hill Blvd location really lacks a professional atmosphere. I had an appt. It took an hour and a half for a simple rotation. The whole store cleared. My car still not ready. Unacceptable.

I came in the morning at 1130 am and was told by senior assistant manager Jim B that I needed two front tires replaced and a price was quoted I agreed to. The car would not be ready until 330pm and I had to work and could not wait that long. I told him I would bring the car back by 4 pm and he assured me it would take an hour to fix the car. As he suggested , I called the number he gave me to let him know I was bringing my car over by 345 but no one ever answered the phone for 20 minutes . Once there, I was told it would be ready by the end of the day which meant two hours and 15 minutes. Poor management or poor organization, I am not sure which one is the problem but having to leave by 530, I was told they could not do it. I left having been a client there for many years and having recommended quite a few people.
