My wheel had been making a dreadful sound that was getting progressively worse. Think of a "womwomwomwomwom" from my wheel bay, which increased in speed along with my vehicle's speed. I could've sworn it was the front left and had thought that tire looked the worst out of the four tires, but the people at Lloyd were honest in informing me that it was actually the front right side! They replaced that tire and the sound is gone, effectively ridding me of my driving anxiety. They could've just replaced the left tire like I had initially asked and let me continue experiencing the issue, but they let me know exactly what the problem was. While I did initially appreciate how quick the inspection was, I am now realizing why it was so fast. Currently sitting at another mechanics because my brakes and rotors are in horrible shape. For some odd reason the young" mechanic" had a hard time changing a leaf spring on a 96 Grand Prix .Its only a couple of bolts.I guess if I took a 66 Mustang to him he would be completely baffled.They seem nice and their prices are good but I'd only trust that guy with a Honda or some brake pads....but at least they didn't overcharge me to look at the car.The shop needs a mechanic that knows GM cars and another that's good at foreign. read more

I chose Lloyd's based on a friend's recommendation. I made an appointment to investigate a strange new (not good) noise from underneath the hood. An appointment was made for 9 am and the car was promptly moved into the bay to examine; this is impressive in itself as they were clearly busy and I have never had any auto repair place take me in on time. The problem was quickly diagnosed, explained to me in a clear, non-patronizing manner (thank you Jason), a quote written up, and parts ordered. Absolutely fantastic service! I'll be coming here for all my future car/tire needs. I came in around 9am today (well, rolled slowly into the parking lot, just barely making it) with a flat tire. They didn't have mine in stock, but quoted a great price and ordered it to come in this same afternoon. In the meantime, they put my spare on so I could get back to work. When I came in this afternoon, they had my new tire already bolted on the rim, which they'd hammered out for me since it'd been bent. He'd saved my tire so that he could show me what'd caused it and also showed me a video he'd took while he was hammering out my rim. They got my new tire back on, spare back in the trunk, and all tires filled up with air nice and quick! The folks here are incredibly friendly and conversational and took time explaining everything to me and going over different options. They even had a helper in the office - Zeus! I've been going to Lloyd Tire for 3 years now, mostly for oil changes and tire rotations. I recently found one of my tires would consistently have a lower tire pressure than the others which would set off my tire pressure monitoring system in my Honda every time the weather changed. Because I was in a rush and wanted to get this tire fixed as soon as possible, I dropped in to a local Pep Boys and asked them to take a look at the tire. They told me that I had two nails in my tire that were too close together and my tire couldn't be patched, offering me information on a new tire I could buy. I was a little suspicious about this, so I took my car to Lloyd Tire. They patched the tire in 30 minutes for $30. Lloyd Tire has always treated me well. I look forward to bringing my business there in the future. read more

The best mechanic. Not only are they honest and do great work, they treated me with respect and like I was a knowledgeable human being. I took our car in for an inspection and it turned out we needed a new catalytic converter and O2 sensor (which we knew to be true before bringing it in). The owner said that it would be a bit more expensive with them because they would do it right with a good part. They ended up getting a converter from the manufacturer that was defective and because they had removed the original part the car couldn't run. The owners rented us a car for that evening and the next day until they were able to get and install a working part. The wife even helped me uninstall and install two car seats to drive us to Enterprise. During this whole process everything was explained in a way that I could understand as well as in a way that acknowledged that I had the ability to understand. I will continue taking our car there for all repairs, maintenance, and tires. read more

We purchased and installed tires at the Pep Boys at the Chapel Hill location. My wife got a screw in the tread. She brought it to get it repaired. She was told they couldn't fix it because Pep Boys has been getting sued for plugs coming out. Then they tried to sell he a new tire. She went down to Lloyd Tire and they fixed it in twenty minutes. They are always done sooner than they promise. They are helpful--the lady in the front office--oh, so nice. I am intimidated when it comes to car stuff-including tires. An amazing and honest repair shop. I got my alternator replaced, and 8 weeks later it broke down again. I had it towed to them late at night and used the key drop, and they were already on the job at 7:30 the next morning. They kept in touch with me, double-checked and tested everything, and replaced the faulty part with no extra charge the next day -- even though it's a tough job in my car model. They use good parts and are honest about problems when there's a fluke. I paid once, but they did a tough job twice! Ask for Brett -- he will take care of you. read more

I have never reviewed a business online but was compelled to do so for Lloyd's because I had outstanding service there. I walked in for an oil change and ended up needing more work (it was legit - even I could see it was necessary). They did it quickly and with great service - incredibly friendly, accommodating, and proactively helpful. I had a problem I thought was related to the service a week later and took the car back. The problem was not their fault (it was a something that came up on a technical report and likely prompted by the heat) but they investigated, found a work-around, and showed me what to do. Excellent follow-up...a true measure of good service. I also appreciated that both times, they took care to show me under the hood what was happening and explain (in terms I could understand) where the problems were. I will be recommending them to all my friends. In fact, I called a friend on the way home who I knew was in search of a mechanic. I unfortunately did not have a great experience at Lloyd's. The person I spoke with on the phone and at the desk was very kind and helpful, but I left my car there for the day because my AC wasn't working and my check engine light was on. I expected to receive a call during the day with explanation of a free diagnostic check for the check engine light and more explanation as to the AC problem. Instead, my first call was notifying me that I had a $245.33 bill for diagnostics and a recommended additional $700 worth of repairs. I was shocked at this diagnostics bill and declined further services. My dad's mechanic in western NC fixed all of my car's problems for under $300. I see from another post that there is a 10% student discount, of which I was not aware. It is always my fear as a young female who is not knowledgeable about cars that I am taken advantage of by mechanics, and I think this may have happened here. Perhaps the best thing to do if you go to Lloyd's (or anywhere, now that I've learned my lesson) is to put a cap on the amount of money that you want to spend on diagnostics. read more

How hard can it be to find a reliable car place/mechanic in Chapel Hill? Apparently very hard, given my experiences. I had high hopes for Lloyd Tire given what friends who used them had to say. And my early experiences with Lloyd were positive. But over time, their quality has slipped. Two the last three times I have brought my car in for a routine oil change or inspection, it has left with a problem it didn't have when I took it in. And Lloyd Tire would not admit to culpability, even though it was clear their mechanic had caused the problem both times (they did fix it after i brought the car back in). They also misdiagnosed a significant issue with my car, I took it elsewhere and got a more accurate diagnosis and much less expensive repair. The desk staff is very nice at Lloyd. But it comes down to the quality and consistency of their mechanics, and unfortunately that doesn't measure up. The search for a good car place/mechanic in Chapel Hill continues... read more

They do nice, quick service for the most part. It seems to me that "free" rotation service is a ploy to sell you services you don't need. They tried to sell me a whole new set of brakes, but thank goodness I have a really good regular mechanic who does such things for me. He said I definitely did not need new brakes. In fact, I got several thousand more miles out of them. Good tires anyway, just beware of them trying to sell you stuff when you go back. read more
