Popped a tire on a Sunday and this was one of few options open. Asked if they had a replacement tire - one would think they would walk out and look at what's on my car - no, he says "I mean, you can bring it in here". I recently had elbow surgery but managed to pull out said tire and roll it in. Guy at counter was on computer with another customer doing god knows what for 10 whole minutes without saying a single word. Awkward and unprofessional. Update: I decided to not post my review until a week later (today). Figured I'd give them the benefit of the doubt but now my brand new tire is leaking significantly. Could be completely unrelated but my steering has seemed off since the tire replacement. Anyways, I was going to drive back to pep boys but decided to go to my usual spot because I just did not want to have another experience like the one I had. I don't think these people want to be in service. I needed an inspection and the woman made me stay in the car and show her each blinker, light, and window wipers (never had to preform my own inspection). When it got to the window wipers she said they needed to be replaced and they sell a blade for 20-30 dollars. This is a brand new car, and my wipers are good. We stopped the inspection there because she said I already failed because of my wipers. I told her I will go replace them. She said okay, inspection is $30 and we're open till 7pm. Well, I went down the street, passed and got it done for $13.50. What a rip off. read more

Worst service experience of my life. I brought in my car for a clicking noise, they told me I needed new CV Axels. I got them replaced. They fell out of my car the next day while driving. I brought it back to the Pep Boys 3 times and they must have just been playing with my car bc they left me unaware for a full week that their negligent job which ripped out my transmission fluid line disconnect and split fluid all over my car and disconnected my wheel assist and more.. after all of that they still lied to my face and told me they had no idea why my car was failing and still let me drive off with it being completely compromised. After I brought it back the 3rd time they said it was unrelated transmission issues.. I tired to tell them it must be from the negligent work they performed and they denied it. They gave me no insight, trying to hide their failure, and I had to have to towed to the dealership where they told me the extend of the damage. The managers did not respond to me and left me in complete limbo. They did not contact their adjuster even though they told me they did which left me without my car for another week. I paid out of pocket for the repair still waiting for an adjuster. When the aduster finally contacted me 2 weeks later she claimed she was never contacted by this shop. So they were trying to ignore the problem. Mean time none of the managers including the DM answered a single phone call from me. When the repairs were refunded they refused to cover the cost of the initial job despise the weeks of noncommucation and gaslighting. My car still makes sounds when I reverse it but they claim they are no longer responsible bc I had to have it fixed by another mechanic shop who told me they couldn't gauntee my transmission would last long term bc of the damage that occured when my Axel fell out of my car. This shop is not qualified to work on vehicles, they will lie to you and say they were not responsible even after a qualified mechanic spelled out their damages. Pep boys will not refund your money and they will lie to your face and say they did nothing wrong. If I could go back I would NEVER take my car here for more than a oil change or simple tire rotation IF THAT they are completely negligent and the worst part is they will just deny it, they will drag out sending an adjuster likely so they won't be held liable and then tell you they can't refund their work despite extereme damage your car. Their support and claims staff is no better they accept no responsibility. These people should not be in business. I would give them negitive stars if I could. read more

Just schedule with a dealership and drive with a spare until it has a confirmed service time. Service was completed but time was trash. Also for value the vehicle now shakes and pulls left. Glad we have a lifetime membership to Firestone, they will be able to correct the alignment... This place does not honor appointments. Twice I have made an appointment days ahead at this place and they cancelled it, due to not having workers or taking a walk-in instead. Instead of being courteous and calling to let me know they will not be able to get me in. They wait until I take off work and get there in person. I had an appointment for 10 am on Saturday to check why my oil was leaking. I was told after waiting for 2 hours that they weren't sure what was causing it. Could have been the tubing that goes to the oil tank. They asked who did the last oil change and that I should take it back to them because they may have put in the wrong size tube. I called Strickland Bros in Pittsboro and they said that I should come in and they would check it out. Within 5 minutes they said that the cap on the oil tank wasn't on tight. They tightened it. So after spending $49 to have PEP Boys diagnose the problem for 2 hours they weren't even able to see that this was the problem!! I will never step foot in that place again and I suggest you don't either. read more

These guys work hard. Having a car repair sucks, but remember, tts not their fault. I think they communicate well, and do good work. I don't think they get the support that they need from their corporate management which sometimes may lead to confusion, but at the store itself they go the extra mile to make things right. I had a bad experience a few years ago, and decided to give them another shot and glad I did. The front guys are very, very nice, and helpful. You also have to remember from some of these reviews, that they work in Chapel Hill, and some of these reviews are from some very overeducated, unreasonably demanding people so take them with a grain of salt. They are very good for basic things like tires, brakes, alignments, etc. Their employees are awesome. They are just one of the few places in Chapel Hill able to do work, so be patient, and you will be pleased. read more

I just purchased a new set of Michelin tires a few months ago and they recommended me to purchase 4 new tires, when my tires are practically new. Wow what a bad experience going to Pep Boys, bad service with a side of bad attitude. I just spent close to 1300 dollars for tires poorly installed. Yellow dot on tire to guide where the weakest point is should align with the valve stem. Nope zero for four. Missing a lave stem cover, when I walked out to get my car from being serivce I walked back in to ask for a valve cover cap. I was greated by "show me", he then saw no valve cover was on the valve stem and put one on and walked away. How about thank you for catching that, but no just a attitude of I was a bother. I came here to get my tire checked twice in 3 days because I believed that I had a slow leak in one of my tires. Both times I came they said that there was nothing wrong with my tire after I explained to them that it hasn't been able to hold air for 3 days and they still said they didn't find anything. We left before even receiving service -- the moment we stepped inside a legit unhinged man from the shop next door came in screaming at us for parking over there even though there were 0 parking spots for either business available. If I could give negative stars, I would. At the start of the Memorial Day weekend, I went outside to get in my car and found that I had a flat tire. AAA came and put on the little donut spare and told me that not only did the flat have a lot of dry rot, but that two other tires did as well and that I needed to have them changed. By this time, it was Saturday afternoon. Pep Boys was the only place open. I called the Chapel Hill location on Chapel Hill and spoke with Jay, who checked and said they had two tires in stock that would fit my car. There wasn't time to get there and get the tires changed, so I said I would be in mid-morning on Sunday. Jay said he would go to the back and pull the tires for me. I live in Chatham County, so it's not like Pep Boys is right down the street. Sunday (today as I write this review), I drove all the way into town just to get the tires. Jay was working the register, so I reminded him that we had spoken. He went to the back to get a sticky note that had my phone number on it, which he verified, and told me it would be 1 1/2-2 hours. A half hour later he called to say he would "be honest with me," that they didn't have the tires. Obviously he was less honest with me when he said Saturday that he would have them ready -- if he had bothered to look then, he could have called the number on the sticky note and told me, thus saving me both time and wear on my fragile tires. He then said I could drive (all the way to) Garner to the Pep Boys there. I am trying to preserve my tires by driving as little as possible, and I have an important meeting in town on Tuesday. Since the tires were listed as in stock on the computer, there is of course no guarantee that I would have actually been able to get them in Garner, anyway. Jay was very cold to me when I picked up the keys. Not even an apology. This was my first and last experience with Pep Boys. I hope that at least my experience will serve as a warning to others to avoid them under even the most desperate circumstances. read more

I stopped here because my car kept telling me "gascap". The seal on my gas cap had dried out and needed to be lubricated. Some service stations are nice enough to spray down your cap and test it for you. This place didn't have the tool for that. The clerk recommended me buying a new gascap, which was unnecessary. read more

I took my car in to see why it wasn't wanting to start/turn over and rough idling- they ran a "diagnostic" and said the alternator and starter were bad and had to be replaced, plus several other things, for a repair cost of over $1900. The starter and alternator were not even listed amongst the Key Issues on the Inspection Report, but were written in manually in the "other issue" section. I took it to an independant repair shop, they checked the battery, starter, starter switch and alternator, and said they were absolutely fine, and it was actually a timing belt that needed replacing. Total cost to get my car repaired? $374! Pep Boys are total and complete liars and crooks, I'll leave a broken down vehicle on the side of the road and ride a bicycle before I'd ever go to them again- HORRIBLE!! read more

We took our car in on a Saturday to have a tire patched. We got there about 11:30 and they said it wouldn't be ready until 7:00. Um. Okay. Then, they decided to look at it before we left, and they told us it couldn't be patched that we'd need a new tire. Um. No. We took it to Chapel Hill Tire Monday where it was patched and free of charge (we go there a lot, it just wasn't open Saturday). That's how you do business. read more

Pep Boys to the rescue! Had a great experience here even though it seemed like it wasn't going to be. I've had a headlight out for quite sometime, which would have certainly got me pulled over. The evening I went to search to have it fixed, I needed my mission to be complete. I just feel way too uneasily driving around with a headlight out and it wasn't until that night that I saw it was the entire thing, as I thought it was the only one of the smaller bulbs underneath. Originally I had went to a local auto parts store and was told they'd help install it but after they saw how my car is not as simple as the standard car, they said that it's against policy, as it would require to take my headlight out and they could potentially do damage to my car. At this point I had already bought the bulb with this other autoparts store. The representative at this other parts store, even tho he couldn't do it was helpful and called Pep Boys up the street. (I guess both places are close friends and frequent referrals) Over the phone, Pep Boys quoted $150+. Even though I have the bulb!!!! Just to install one headlight!!!! In a moment of "let's talk to these people", I drive to Pep Boys and Angelo explains to me that his system doesn't give our quotes well and the cost to pop the bulb in would only be $25, since I already had the bulb. Sweeeeet. Labor only took less than ten minutes and I was on my way. Lesson learned, what you're told isn't always what's to be. I had never quite heard of Pep Boys before but now am a fan. I got off work at 530 today to see a flat tire with a piece of metal stuck inside! I called these guys and not only did they tell me to come on, but were able to patch the tire in about 30 minutes! I was home by 630! I had no spare, it is my only vehicle, and I have no one else that could have helped me get my kids to school or to work. They were super understanding of my situation and got me in and out! I am so appreciative of the service, and the price was 50 dollars cheaper than all the other places that couldn't help me until the morning! read more

Quoted my son $1800 to fix a rattle saying the motor mounts needed to be replaced. My son drove the car home and a relative looked at the car. Motor mounts were all fine. A $15 muffler bracket needed replacement and the rattle was gone. Pep boys was obviously trying to take advantage of a college kid with out of state plates. BEWARE. With this many 1 star reviews there is obviously a problem. read more

These guys are dangerous! Pep Boys on Franklin Street replaced my new tire's brand new tire valves with broken ones, and I ended up with TWO flat tires within a week. The response from the guy behind the counter when I came back was "Oh, yeah. That happens a lot. To save time, we just put all the valves in a bucket when we replace tires and you get whatever valves we pull out." I'm just glad I wasn't driving on the highway when my tires went flat. read more

FOUR MONTHS WITH NO VEHICLE. My car was accepted in early SEPTEMBER for a busted head gasket, as of November 29th, it is still not completed. The nature of this damage necessitates an engine replacement, so waiting was not outside of the realm of reasonable anticipation, but there is no excuse for having to wait 4 months to receive service for which you've paid. Weekly calls have incurred the same variety of generic responses about the status of my vehicle: "it should be done in the next two weeks," "your car is next in line in the queue," "we're waiting on your parts to arrive," etc.. However, roughly 17 weeks of these calls and weightless excuses have left me (us) at an end. When asked WHY this is taking so ridiculously long, the response is that there is only one "master technician" capable and allowed to work on jobs of this complex nature. Whether or not this is true, this shows a clear apathy for necessary time of completion, as they are more than willing to accept your money for jobs in which they are well aware they are too under-resourced to be able to complete within a reasonable time frame. In all, this location doesn't have the resources to complete your job and get you your fixed car that you need as a daily necessity. Do not waste more than 1/3 of a year on a business that will not advocate for your situation and is wholly apathetic about the lack of service on their end. The only bright light in this buffoonery is that the reception staff has always seemed kind and willing to seek answers for me. Thank you to her. THE ONLY REASON I GAVE A ONE is because you can't give a ZERO!! ! Horrible experience, I had a flat tire and was towed to the Chapel Hill location store 1624. Unfortunately the tire that was placed on my car was the CHEAPEST TIRE they have to get me home and I do mean the CHEAPEST. The tire NEVER held the right air pressure which is supposed to be 44, and not to mention when the tire was removed from the car, I was informed by the mechanic at the tire shop in W-S, that is was rubbing from the inside and was NOT a good tire for a 4matic Mercedes Benz AND I could not use it for a spare due to the rubbing and inability to hold the correct tire pressure. After contacting the store manger D.Orr who states that he discussed this with his asst manager and "higher up", I could not return the tire or be refunded. He also stated that they were just trying to do something to get me home by placing the cheapest tire on the car since they didn't hv what I needed and would not hv it until that Saturday. Not once did I mention that cost was a factor, they ASSUMED that because of the situation, I would want the cheapest. I was not informed about the BEST tire that could do the job. I commute daily about 85 miles one way, and explained that to the asst. manager. Hypothetically IF this tire had to remain on my car until the actual tires arrived, and you know this wasn't your BEST TIRE, WHY would you sell it to me? They mentioned I needed to by a set. I didn't want a set ... we don't run mismatch tires on our car and only run a certain brand. However, you don't have to by a set especially if you know that tire isn't what you already have, plus, how many ppl purchase one tire in a daily bases? If I said I ran. Bridgestone on the car WHY wouldn't you sale me something closer to that brand? Nonetheless you call TODAY seven days later with a resolve of, " I can't replace your tire or give you a refund, but the next time your in the area I can give you a complimentary oil change," I declined and said again, it's a MERCEDES you don't carry the brand or type of oil that I use-REALLY. Nevertheless, I WILL NEVER VISIT a PEP BOYS location EVER and will advise ALL to do the same. of note, while waiting there were several customers with a nail in the tires, one in particular that could be repaired per the Latino mechanic, he even stated so to the asst. manager, and the asst. manager said, " no, I'll just tell him that he needs a new tire!" I should hv none something was "fishy" for the lack of better words, at that time. Again, $191.48 DOWN THE DRAIN... NEVER AGAIN WILL WE EVER VISIT PEP BOYS.... Great service and pricing! Had both CV joints replaced and front brakes and the manager worked with me on pricing and parts using an online coupon that really cut the costs. The work was completed quickly and when they backed out the car something didn't sound right to them so they double checked everything and fixed the issue. Manager took it for a test drive to ensure it was fixed. Got up to date texts on status and they sourced several suppliers to get a good price on the parts. I made an appointment online Thursday 24Feb22 to get an oil change for Saturday 26Feb22 for 10:30AM . I get there about 10 minutes early and go to check-in and they don't see an appointment has been made. She had to manually put my info in the system again. I told them I was going to wait for my car. I waited and waited until finally approximately 2 hrs later I asked about when they were getting to my car which was still sitting outside to be seen. She tells me there was 1 more car ahead of me. I'll never return to ANY Pepboy facility b/c I had an issue with the Hwy 55 location as well last year with the oil change. Never again!! I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. read more

So here is the story. I recently needed both of my lower control arm assemblies installed on my 2006 Trailblazer. I was told over the phone that I could bring the car in first thing Saturday morning and have it back with both arms and an alignment by Sunday Morning. They did not start working on my car till Sunday morning and then had the audacity to tell me they could only put one on and put the other one on Wednesday. Thankfully, the mechanics were great and did not give me a hard time. They were willing to stay until night to finish the job. When I arrived to come see the vehicle, I politely told Amber (the front service attendant) "thank you again," to which she continued to look down at her phone and brushed me off. Listen, I get it, nobody wants to work late on a sunday evening.. But, you shouldn't make guarantees and not come through with them. And if you do, don't do it with attitude. I am super disappointed with pep boys. I made an appointment for 3:30 to do an oil change and inspection. I also had a small nail in the tire they asked 19.99 to fix the nail and 5 dollars to put the spare to put the tire back where it belongs(under the car) this is always a complimentary service but they want to change 25$ which I was cool with. However just to do a simple oil change they took 40 mins to get my car in the shop even with an appointment. I was expecting a quick service but they took two hour of my day. The inspection failed because of dirt headlights and restoration fee was $50. Which also took another chunk of my time. Headlight rest. 40$ to change my wiper blades. Pro trip don't do your inspection here they try to sell you their services. Do it at a small mom and pop shop. read more
