Fried plantain chips with scallop ceviche are surprisingly addicting. Duck ragu with housemade pasta was ok, but I'm a little spoiled when it comes to homemade pasta. The pea risotto was light yet delicious. The roasted fava beans and accompanying dressing was good too. Sauteed baby octopus was very tender. The servers are not unfriendly but not particularly helpful, either. Outrageously overpriced food, it's what I would expect on a budget cruise but at four times the price. My margarita tasted like store-bought margarita mix. My burger was medium well instead of medium rare and the fries were a frozen reheated mess. After driving by the place for the past few months, we decided to give it a try. Made a reservation on Open Table and we were greeted by the friendly host/bartender as we entered. Given the choices for inside seating and the fact that it was really too cold to eat outside, we decided to sit at the bar-- which ended up being the best option in the house. The staff is incredibly friendly and more than willing to walk you through the menu which can be tricky unless you know intuitively that COLD and HOT are roughly appetizers and main dishes. We ordered the plantains with our drinks and they were exceptionally well prepared and served with a pineapple tomato salsa. The chips were crispy and not greasy at all. Next we had the carrot soup and the feta cheese salad. The soup was hot but located on the cold side of the menu . . . great flavor and smooth texture. The feta salad was exceptional served with some wonderfully peppery arugula. For main courses we had the branzini and the ferro. The Ferro is a appetizer but they made in into a main course . . . glad we got the main course size since even that was rather small. It was quite tasty and had a nice wheat berry taste. The branzini had a strong fishy smell and taste. Since it was a very small piece I was able to eat it but it was unremarkable in flavor and presentation. The desserts are not to be missed . . . the bread pudding was incredible and the mango upside down cake just different enough to be amazing. It is weren't for the main courses, I could give 5 stars but compared to the rest of the meal I just didnt think they were on par with everything else we had. Later in the evening I got incredibly sick -- I am thinking it had to be the fish since it just had an odd taste. I paid for that later. The wine list is decent and the drinks are just like home . . nice big glasses! The staff is great-- wish I had said something about the fish when I ate it. read more

Perhaps my expectations were too high. Other than being seated 1/2 hour late for our reservations (these things happen), the service was good. The food was also good, but not wonderful. I have had better plantains at La Bete, and this is a Marjorie signature. (Actually, I liked everything better at La Bete.)The beet salad was a bit salty-you can add salt, but not take away.None of the entree choices thrilled me, but my chicken breast was fine. We called to make a reservation at 7:30 for 6 people, and they told us we could walk in and it might be a little wait. When we showed up they told us there was no way we could get in and wouldn't even put us on the list. They said they 'should've told us that on the phone.'. They should've saved us and our friends the trip. They were very rude and unwelcoming. As for past experiences, the food is a little lackluster and overpriced. We won't be back. read more

My family of 4 went to Marjorie on a busy, rainy night and although we were sat at a small table in the back room, we had a wonderful meal and evening. What made it that way was the welcoming and accommodating wait staff, including owner Donna Moodie, and the excellent food and drink. We will definitely be back. read more

I went for restaurant week and was pretty excited to try the food - I saw great things coming out of the kitchen. Maybe I shouldn't have done restaurant week here tho - it seemed like they were just phoning it in. The appetizers and drinks were excellent but it was downhill after that. The risotto was mushy, flank steak fine but not that interesting, the lemon dessert was too lemony and they ran out of another dessert. I was generally happy with my food, but it was overpriced. People at my table also had to send back a burnt order. They also calculate tax after tip. For our large group it was 20% set tip, and then a 10% tax on that, meaning that tax and tip is 32%... which I think is cheap of them. The service was good, no complaints there. read more

We used to love this restaurant, but the food quality & service have gone down hill. A little over a month ago, we wanted to take my dad to a special Father's Day dinner. We ordered a lot of drinks & wine & took our time dining. There were 6 of us & they had run out of a few things so the menu was slightly limited. The server raved about the asparagus risotto, so 3 of us ordered it. Our server disappeared most of the night, the risotto had no flavor( it was one note & not good!)none of us really ate it. We spend well over $600 & left hungry. I called & left a message to the owner about our experience. I did not receive a call back, so I called again & she answered. At first she sounded alouf to the fact that I had to call again, almost irritated. Then she actually sounded concerned about our bad experience in her restaurant. She offered to look into the situation & send s gift certificate to make it right. Well.....we are still waiting. She has not sent a gift certificate & obviously doesn't care about losing future business. Sadly we will never go back! I found Marjorie to be a fun little spot to grab a tasty cocktail and dinner. The salmon was decent but the salads and desserts were fantastic. Great cocktail list and decent wine list. Trendy and upbeat but a little off cap hills craziness, the atmosphere was pleasant. It seemed like a bit of a hippie hideout but the food didn't taste like incense and peppermints. We recently moved to Seattle and did not make reservations for valentines day. We walked and were seated quickly. Staff is friendly and service was good. We had 3 course prix fixe menu but it was made of items normally on their menu- everything was delicious. My favorite thing was the blood orange margarita ... A lil pricey but strong and tastey. I came here for restaurant week hoping to fall in love and find my new favorite restaurant but instead left disappointed and hungry. For starters the server and bartender were a tad bit loud and consumed with their personal conversations. I was excited to try the creative and flavorful dishes found on the regular menu but instead was served unseasoned more traditional dishes. I wanted to let the server know that I was unhappy with the unseasoned bland food (and half portion sized fish) but once again he was more interested in bantering with the server and did not check in until much later in the meal. The ambience is perfect for a relaxed Friday night out . It is relaxing and you are not hurried in any way. The staff are very helpful and take time to check on you. I love the dishes. We had the foie gras to start with and were delighted with the purée . The steak is cooked nicely and I think it is well thought, playing with flavors and textures. The gnocchi is splendid! Marjorie is a real Seattle gem. It's so great to have Marjorie back, and with so many of the front house staff returning - it really feels like home again. Ben makes fabulous drinks. I love the Vesper Martini. We also tried the pizza, perfectly spicy, the duck, succulent and perfectly cooked, and the beef with foie gras hollandaise, absolutely to die for. And, the bread pudding makes it's triumphant return with a caramel bourbon sauce that is simply delicious. read more

A friend and I just had a very delightful dinner at Marjorie. The outside patio table was perfect, wait service was attentive/courteous, and the food was excellent. We shared several appetizers including the plantain chips, baguette with homemade butter (so worth getting), salad with candied pecans, sashimi mackerel, and beet and goat cheese bruschetta. I wanted to love this place, but alas. The ambience is nice, the service was decent, the food was hit and miss. Everything but beer is way overpriced. Cocktails are $12 on average, which is ridiculous for a casual neighborhood place. Entrees are between $14 and $30. This place belongs in Santa Monica, not Capitol Hill. read more

I love the neighborhood feel and that It's walking distance from my house. The fried plantains are a great start to the meal and are a large enough starter to feed at least four - six people. Every dish I've had has been amazing. Make sure to order some sides of veggies - They're cooked perfectly. Drinks are great and the decor is super charming. Amazing and delightful. Unique and forward-thinking without trendy pretentiousness. Intriguing surprises abound! Their chef Thomas is engaging, cool and attentive, and man can he cook! Best clams I have ever eaten, the plantain chips are pure magic, and the burrata cheese? You'll just have to taste it yourself! Food prices are lower than expected and bar charges are very reasonable, especially when compared to other Seattle bars. (Order an old fashioned!) We plan ahead to visit Marjorie every time we are in Seattle. Someday I hope they expand to lunches as well....? read more

Full disclosure: I didn't eat at Marjorie. My CEO, CFO, entire senior management team and their spouses did however, and they LOVED it. They loved the food, they loved the service, they loved the atmosphere. They would go back in a heartbeat. Some of them already have, several times. Our company deals with food, my senior management team knows food. If they like it, it's good, no doubt. Let me tell you what I loved about Marjorie: I organized a holiday party for senior management and it was amazing. I had no trouble coordinating everything, because any question I had, Donna (the owner) answered, and handled to perfection. I want some weird off-the-wall flow in my party? No problem. Can we take this space and decorate it? Sure. Can you make us proprietary cocktails? Yep! My list was endless, their responses spot-on, timely, no stress (for us, anyway!). I loved working with them, my party was a smashing success, and I'm going to eat there this weekend. One of the best restaurants that I've ever been to by far. The ambiance is great - really cool decor, interesting knick knacks and a cozy space inside. We started with the plantain chips. Purely amazing. We had the beet salad and the risotto, both the best that I've ever had. Big portions, so share them with multiple people. Then for our entrees had the black cod and the salmon. I would recommend all of these plates to anyone. This is a must go place! read more

We mostly loved the food and drinks, very nice atmosphere if they sit you in the main restaurant area... we were seated at some back room were only the 2 of us and another big table of a privet party noisy girls were and a waiter who came from time to time to take orders... while everyone very nice, we waited for the food for over an hour... no one even came to ask how the main courses were and we actually had to take ourselves out and ask to pay since no one even approached to see if we want a desert or check... not sure what went wrong but most guest seem to be enjoying themselves in the main area while we spent over $120 on mediocre service... read more

Enjoyed a fine meal last night. Sat at the bar and chatted with the bartender, owner, server, chef (s), some I.T. guy and other patrons. Everyone was super friendly which was pretty radd. The bartender (Wren?) was very adept at interacting with everyone who bellied-up to the bar and managed to get conversations rolling between most of the patrons. Their location seems well suited to the ambiance they want to project: neighborly and sophisticated (that doesn't mean pretentious Seattlites). The menu was fairly clear and the bartender explained that nothing was super-sized (other than the drinks) which led me to have a few plates coursed-out. I began with the charcuterie plate which was well prepared: beef tongue, prosciutto, jamon, rillette, pate, etc..... Dericious! The main course of salmon wasn't huge but I wasn't really expecting it to be when it was priced at $20. I brought a pretty hardy appetite and the fish was delightful so I ordered the steak (priced similarly). It was a nice piece of meat. For dessert I had the bread pudding which was the best I've had in some time. The moistisity level was juuuusst right. Portion sizes: on a scale of waif - morbidly obese, I would say they're fit for someone who watches no more than 10 hours of television a week (which translates to about a 6.5 on a scale of 10). Friends and I had dinner at Marjorie New Years Eve and all I can say is it was perfection from start to finish. Beautiful new location; even with a full house there was a very low noise level. It was great to be able to talk to my dinner companions. Everything I ordered looked beautiful and tasted even better.
