I'd been sleeping on this place! I really liked the open, airy, diner-like atmosphere here, with comfy, clean booths but still a bit of an upscale feel. We started with the House Pickles and some fresh oysters. Our server was great at recommending some oysters in different flavor profiles, since we liked the milkier, less briny-tasting varieties. His recs were spot on too, and I loved that they provided house-prepared mignontette and horseradish. Then, we shared the Maryland blue crab cake (one cake that was big enough for its own meal) and the U10 Diver Scallops that came in a sauce of cream, spinach and bacon, and a side of buttery, soft bread. I make scallops all the time at home and never would have thought of a sauce like this... it was dreamy! We used the bread to just about clean the plate (since it isn't really socially acceptable to lick a plate in a restaurant), and I'm still thinking about the scallops and that sauce today. The crab cake and pickles were excellent too. We paired everything with some crisp New Zealand sauv blanc. I really enjoyed this place and I'd love to go back to try to hand rolls, soups, and everything else!

I got the fish and chips and it was very well prepared. It was also my first time getting oysters and not that it's their fault but maybe I'm not the biggest fan of oysters. Some were very good and some were not at all. I will say the back definitely could've shucked some of them better. Overall, this place is very good and a nice little spot in downtown. A little pricey, but everything is in Southern California.

ROSTY - Authentic Peruvian Flavors in the Heart of Highland Park!…read more Our second visit to Rosty was just as impressive as the first: delicious Peruvian cuisine, great prices, a welcoming atmosphere, and outstanding service. The pollo a la brasa came with crispy fried yuca, plátanos fritos, French fries, salad, and refreshing chicha morada. Their maracuyá is another excellent drink option. The three house sauces, including ají verde and ají amarillo, are flavorful, well balanced, and clearly made with care. The lomo saltado was another highlight, featuring properly prepared, tender beef and savory juices that brought the dish together. I also loved the pan con chicharrón, with flavorful pork, fried sweet potato, fresh salsa criolla, and perfectly textured bread that absorbed the juices without becoming heavy. As a chef with over 20 years of experience preparing Peruvian cuisine, I appreciate Rosty's attention to ingredients, preparation, balance, and authentic flavor. It's a neighborhood gem that honors Peruvian food and culture while providing warm hospitality. Highly recommended--we'll definitely be back! ¡Gracias por todo, Rosty! ¡Nos vemos pronto!

I will say I'm def coming back here. The service was wonderful. Very quick, friendly, and accommodating. Fast service. We ordered the "Lomo Saltado" absolutely DELICIOUS & MUST TRY!! Cooked to perfection, the entire dish was mouth watering. I devoured the whole thing -- including the veggies lol. It's perfect! The sauce was delicious too!! I will say their complimentary house bread is crunchy.. not much of a fan. But the house homemade sauces were absolutely delicious. I would def recommend if your in Pasadena or highland park to come eat here. This place is perfect!! Looking forward to coming back and trying other new entree items.

One thing that really threw me off though was the oysters were almost warm, not cold how you would expect them to be served. I only had a 2 before I noticed and had to toss the rest. Everyone who eats oysters knows they should be ice cold or served on top of ice. The ambiance outside wasn't the best, it was a super hot day and there's only outdoor seating. The house located right text door was having some hard work done as well and lots of dust was being blown directly into the area we were sitting. The service it self wasn't too bad, they had out food ready pretty fast but for the price we paid, the experience could have been better.

Our entree was the paella de mare and the oxtail pasta (not on the menu) both exquisite and delicious, cooked to perfection. At the end of the meal the crew came over singing happy birthday with delicious slice of warm bread pudding and house made vanilla ice cream. Decided on the Bigeye Tuna. We sat on the patio with our pup. Staff was very friendly and observant. Always made sure we had water and checked if we needed anything. Loved the Queen St Salad. So much we ate it fast and didnt get a chance to take a photo. We got the platter, which was beautiful! I'm not a fan of oysters or shrimp cocktail, but my partner and friends are. I did have a couple of oysters, and loved the flavor with the sauce. It's more of, I don't like the texture (pretty common). But my favorite thing on the platter was the crudo! I probably could have ate the bowl by myself! The hushpuppies were nice with the butter. Tastes great with seafood and a beer always. The Bigeye Tuna and Frites was probably the least liked dish. I think because the tuna is seared, the raw center of the tuna with the aioli sauce, the combo felt slippery and off-putting. Flavor was good though! I will say that the fries were amazing in that sauce though! Lastly, for dessert we got the Strawberry Jam Sundae. It was very refreshing for a warm night on the patio. Not too sweet, just right! And it was sprinkled with some crushed biscuits which added a nice texture. The sundae reminded me of a deconstructed fruit galette cookie with ice cream. I would happily come here just to eat the sundae on a hot day. Overall, I liked this place a lot. I want to come back and try more things on the menu.

My family and I were on our way home from a long day of errands so we decided to order online for pickup on the way home since we live fairly close to it. It did not disappoint! We wished we ordered more! It was just as good as The Boiling Crab if not better, especially since you don't have the long wait. Just keep in mind that it is a small casual spot and not a big restaurant. Even though we ordered for pickup, it did look like a nice little setup. We will definitely be ordering from here again, especially since it's close by and a local business to support!
