After one or two too many drinks I usually stop by for one or two too many tacos. The asada and pollo are just ok but I liked their cabeza and al pastor. Don't call it a comeback! This place used to be on Ave 54 and Monte Vista and then it disappeared. The day Claire H and I walked up to that corner and didn't see the truck that had been our source of late night and too-lazy-to-make-dinner-ourselves food was a sad day indeed, We walked in slow motion back to the house. We sung the Boyz II Men song, "It's so hard to Say Goodbye" as we strolled slowly. That night as our empty stomachs growled, I could swear I heard Taps being played on a bugle somewhere. This spot isn't your normal Taco Truck. They serve up chorreadas and vampiros. I have never had them any where else. Not only that but their Pastor and Carne Asada is mouth wateringly good. They also have caramelized onions on all their food. This week, Claire H, got home from work and gave me the good news. TACOS SINALOA IS BACK! and it is on AVENUE 55 and Figueroa!!! Woohoo! This is one of those classic taco trucks. You know, long before twitter when you could go to the local corner and enjoy some really cheap tacos that were beyond any sort of taste you could find at a brick and mortar joint. Yeah, this is one of those. It's great for the utility taco when you're hungry and very friendly to your wallet. You don't need twitter to find this truck. Just drive up Fig till you see it somewhere around there. They seem to move around a lot. Not sure if that's a great thing, but it is what it is. As for the positives, I really like the way they prepare tongue here. And really, if you're grossed out by the fact of eating tongue, get over it and enjoy it. It's delicious. But anyhow, they shred it up like if it was some corned beef. This really lets it lay out on the taco. The Al Pastor here is pretty good. Though I have had better, but let's face it, when you grow up on street food and taco carts, that's not a surprise. Over all, it's a good taco spot to hit if you're not willing to take on some of the other taco stands. The magic key to the place is the flavoring in the beef as well as the avocado sauce that this available. When you combine the two, the whole is far greater than the sum of nine parts. If you are in area make sure you go there but as far as i know they are only there from 6-11 pm. I talked to one of the guys and he confirmed that they are now on York between 52 and 53. I went there a few days later and they were in deed there. Turns out the truck closes at midnight - so that's why I could never find it! And at only $1 a taco, you can't really go wrong here! We eat at this taco truck weekly. It's a taco trailer, but they are very friendly and clean. The put out a nice selection of fresh condiments, and the roasted onions and jalapenos are tasty. Now, I'm a fan of Tito's Tacos and King's Taco, but Tacos Sinaloa located on the corner of Avenue 55 & Figueroa Street in Highland Park had the BEST ever! I highly recommend the VAMPIROS tacos which are loaded on a crispy tortilla with carne asada, onions, garlic and cheese. Not only are the tacos delicious, but their sauces add all the spice necessary to heighten your senses. This is a solid and reliable truck that makes a nice contribution among the late night food options in Highland Park. I prefer the tacos, vampiros and quesadillas to the burritos, but it's all respectable and affordable at this place... $1 tacos and $5 burritos and quesadillas. My favorite meat here is the chicken, small pieces that are grilled with some crispiness. Pastor is also pretty good, though I'm not as big a fan of the Asada here... it's not the most flavorful meat out there but it's always served hot and hits the spot.
