Stopped in for a quick lunch. Mario's had been here forever, but they are renovating the plaza so it's worth a visit to check out their new neighbors. I shared a slice of sausage pizza w/ hubby. It had a little kick and perfect amount of cheese. I tried the pepperoni, pesto and hot honey slice. It was a little flowery but pretty good! Hubby had the buffalo chicken slice. He never had one before. It looked good but he wasn't a fan. I think he's more of a traditionalist. I had a bite and say, yum! You can sit on the side for self-service or there is a great restaurant section w/ service and awesome specials. BYO and make it a date night. There's conveniently a liquor store next door. Stopped at this spot for lunch and ordered the fish wrap with other things for my clients. The order was called in and I picked up. When I arrived I parked in their lot. I walked in and paid at the counter. The place was big for eat in or take out. When I dug in the wrap was very good and filling just wish they put a little more tartar sauce for the wrap. Late-Night Gold in Jersey We rolled in late--way past what you'd expect most places to be serving anything worthwhile--but this little Jersey joint was still slinging slices like it was the middle of the day. And not just any slices... these were killer. Thin, crispy crust with that perfect fold, just enough grease to know it's the real deal, and toppings that tasted fresh, not like they came from a can five hours ago. What really made the night, though, was the owner. Totally unprompted, he came out to chat with us. Not in a rush, not doing the whole "how's everything?" drive-by. He pulled up, told us a bit about the shop, the dough, the sauce--stuff he actually cared about. You could tell this place is his baby, and it shows in every bite. Oh, and the ranch? Homemade. Not that packet stuff. Creamy, herby, a little garlicky--it made dipping the crust basically mandatory. It's rare to find that combo of good food, good people, and a spot that feels like home even if you've never been before. Jersey does it right. Had a good Meal at this spot tonight. I had the food delivered so no comments about service or ambiance. I had the lasagna, chef salad, meatballs, and garlic knots. Everything was pretty good. I will never turn down a good slice of pizza. Naturally, I was very excited to try this new spot when I was over a buddy's house. I'm from Hudson County born and raised, so good pizza is available rather easily here, and it is relatively abundant if you know where to look. I can't speak to the inside of the restaurant or the decor, as we had delivery. However, this place was prompt and had the food ready on time. Given where we were, we were pleasantly surprised by the food! Stromboli was excellent. It was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. As for the pizza, toppings were abundant and generous. Olive, pepperoni, sausage, Buffalo chicken, and plain cheese pizzas were all quite good. Cheese blend is also very nice and sauce was well-seasoned and flavorful. If you ask me, it was a bit of a departure from true New York pizza given that the crust was very crisp, making the pizza difficult to fold. However, that isn't a deal breaker, just a preference. We have gotten delivery past 2 nights. Last night we got a pizza and spaghetti both was good. Tonight we got calamari and scallops both were yummy and we got lobster bisque its really good and got a cold sub for tomorrow. Delivery was on time and all the food was hot. If I could give this place negative stars I would. Ordered from this place and their app said 30 minutes. 2 hours later the food arrived cold. When I called about the order they iced multiple times about delivery times. First it was 45 minutes. Then an hour. Then 1.5 hours. When I finally complained they yelled at me for complaining. You literally can't go wrong with anything on the menu here, It's All very good and very consistent. For now they're a take out or curbside kinda place plus if You're hunkered down locally they have a fast and reliable delivery service so keep that in mind too. Hey did You know that Americans eat approximately 100 acres of pizza per day. That's a rate of 350 slices per second. Me and my family just came here, my aunt got a tuna pita. She said that it didn't taste that good, but something she could bare with. The pizza tasted good. The tables were nice and set and not dirty. Not to mention but the ceiling was a little dirty. The one thing that did confuse me was that there was no silverware when we got here. We ordered our food at 11:50 about, it came at 12:15 so it took 25 minutes. My grandma got a chicken cutlet, she got a small which was 7 inches and the large was 14 inches. She said it was very big. I got BBQ wings and usually when I go somewhere they're spicy, but here it wasn't spicy at all. I also saw a fly near my food. I wouldn't recommend this place if you want something nice and fancy. read more

So I asked the hotel clerk where to get authentic New York style pizza here. Shouldn't have been a problem but alas, it Was not to be. I ordered a small pepperoni and green olive pizza. Here's the good: lots of pepperoni and large olives on the pizza. They definitely did not skip. Now for the note so great: it wasn't what I would consider NY style. The bottom crust was too crisp and the toppings on top weren't crisp enough. The cheese didn't have that great gooey texture and the cornicione (edge crust) was not big enough. While I could fold a piece in half, it just didn't have that flexibility that true New York pizza has. Now don't think that the pizza wasn't good - it was alright. It just didn't scratch the itch that this southern boy had for NY style while traveling up north. (One extra ding against this place was the condition of the restroom I used while waiting. It had been quite a few years since I was last at Mario's and was pleasantly surprised by it. The entire shopping center is getting a facelift with KMart being knocked down and new fronts on all the stores. I don't remember too much about how Mario's was, but looks very nice now. There is a big seating area in the front which is more of a formal restaurant, with still plenty of seating in back if you're just having a slice. I had a slice of white with broccoli and a small Gatorade. The pizza was very good and the price was just under $4....can't beat that! This place used to be one of our favorite places to order in, but has really really gone downhill. The food has always been average Italian/pizza but as one of the only local places that delivers we ordered a lot. Unfortunately, tonight was the last straw. Not only did they take almost 2 hours to deliver, they were extremely rude and dismissive on the phone. They claimed they had gotten the order late, but Grubhub confirmed exactly when they had gotten it with their sign off in accepting. So in summary, rude and untruthful. I will say that their actual delivery guys are awesome. Our favorites here were the sandwiches - really good size for the money (and flavor of course). The pastrami and egg is a standout. Tonight we went to one of our favorite Italian restaurants in Morris County, When you're looking for a GREAT meal with HUGE portions-Mario's is your destination. We found this little place about five years ago and we have NEVER-EVER had a bad meal, bad service or a single complaint. I've also never finished a meal there because the portions are seriously huge. There's been times I've gotten dinner and another two lunches out of the leftovers. Now the place isn't fancy - one side is the pizzeria with 12-14 tables on the restaurant side, but you won't be disappointed. I've never had their pizza, but my 9-year old son rates it as a 4-star slice. Tonight I went with the shrimp Parm, my wife had the chicken parm, my kids had vodka sauce with chicken and linguini with garlic and oil. absolutely delicious. If you love garlic-they aren't afraid to use it - garlic bread, scampi, garlic and oil are all well doused with nice pieces of chopped (not minced) garlic. My personal favorite isn't on the menu, but they'll make it if you ask...if you like seafood and spicy in one meal order the seafood combo fra diablo-and ask them to make it extra spicy. So the next time you're in the mood for great Italian-and a lot of it-grab a bottle of red wine or a few beers (it's BYOB), drive out to Mario's and have one of the best pasta meals you're going to get. read more

Ordered Veal Frances's with linguine and they gave me the veal and lemon butter sauce in one container and the pasta in a separate container with red sauce on it. Why would I want a red sauce on the pasta when I got lemon butter sauce? When I called to see if they would fix it I was told that it was MY fault that the mistake was made and that's how they always make the food... you always make the food with two different sauces? That isn't correct. We order here before and have never had the pasta separately or with a different sauce. Youre telling me it was an "accident" that they put the linguine in with the dinner previously? Youre telling me that the menu saying the entree comes with pasta is a mistake too? We just paid an extra $7 in fees, plus we tipped because they charge a delivery fee and convenience fee to use a credit card. We scheduled a 5:30 delivery hours earlier, but food arrived at 6:05. I've been ordering from Mario's for eons, and typically it's delivery all the way with my schedule! The pizza is good, although if you're looking for that deep down authentic Nona-just-made-it Italian cuisine Mario's may not your place, I'll level with you. They pre-make their noodles (not uncommon and not a crime) so you'll never have an opportunity to experience anything al dente (at least for delivery). Their sauce...not bad but it has definitely gone through phases throughout the years, much akin to the rate of social media lingo trends. If you are looking for a basic pizza pie or a generous helping of baked ziti, or even a very generous hot or cold sub sandwich, Mario's does a pretty stand up job. Also, nobody can beat their BBQ chicken wings! The sauce is outstanding and the wings are plump and tender!! The half sub portion is big and the whole will last you for a couple meals if you play your cards right. Their meatballs are also not too shabby. I enjoy the chicken cutlet sandwich, the Margherita pizza, and the fact that they serve Anthony and Sons Bakery dinner rolls with their delivery orders. I do miss the bread that used to accompany the delivery orders but I found that I often didn't finish all of it and it ended up getting tossed so in terms of food waste, the pre-wrapped individual rolls are probably much kinder. The tuna salad has a funky taste and has for quite some time so I no longer dig the tuna salads. Delivery is usually very prompt and they have very nice delivery drivers. The dining room is cute and it's BYOB if you're in the mood and have the time to kick back and chow down on carbs while sipping your vino. To cap it off, Mario's is good if you're hungry and your palate mood is not particularly discriminatory. I wish they could really impress me but I'm here to speak truth folks. Chicken parm was very tough to chew and even though it was cut very thin. Tasted just like veal! Don't recommend getting it if your looking for a thick juicy piece of chicken. And when I called to complain the manager came on the phone and said well thats how we cut our chicken sorry. I said it was definitely veal like not chicken and he said I can send another one but the chicken is cut that thin always no exceptions. Needless to say I won't be dining there ever again. read more
