I began seeing little piles of sand on my kitchen window sill. I assumed that my husband was making a mess cleaning his golf equipment, so I didn't bother with it. But the piles kept popping up, and I was like -- WTH is the husband up to. Then maybe a few days in, the husband was like "Dude, what's that stuff up on the ceiling??". There were a bunch of nasty little nests. Gosh it was the grossest thing. Seriously. We got on Yelp and contacted a bunch of pest control companies. And had three free estimates lined up the next day. I liked Mariners because the very very technical in their explanations so I understood the science based approach they would be using. Our termites were subterranean so we did not need a tenting. The owner is a Cal graduate, and super smart. His quote was reasonable in the same ball park as the others. But made me feel very comfortable. And he offered to replace some of the damaged wood that we discovered on the roof and one of the exterior wood panels. That was above and beyond what anyone else had offered and it meant a lot to us to be able to support a small local business. That's why we selected them. They came out a few days after. They bored small holes throughout the exterior of our house and injected the termicide. It took a good part of half a day, and the wood replacement took a few hours. The holes they made were no bigger than a nickel. The workers were professional and polite and knew their business. A few days after I had some termites crawling out of the ceiling and dropping down again. Freaked me out. But Nathan was very comforting, and offered to check in on the house while I was on vacation. I did not take him up on the offer, but the fact that he made the offer showed his level of customer service and his willingness to go the extra mile. He did end up sending in a technician to inject a bit more termicide in one area, and we are all done with termites. read more

Mariners Pest Control did an awesome job on our home. In preparation for exterior painting, we contacted several termite and pest control companies for a free home inspection and quote. In the end we selected Mariners as our contractor. While termites or termite damage were not found, there was an extensive amount of dry rot found that needed to be addressed prior to painting. Our inspector Shawn is very good. Shawn found damage that others did not see. He has a lot of experience and he has a good eye for spotting damage that some other inspectors miss. We later verified his findings and discovered that he was correct in his assessment. Mariners proposal was not the least expensive, but the best value. A couple of other firms quoted a little bit less, but their method for mitigating the dry rot damage was substandard. Mariners does not cut corners. If a fascia board is damaged, they replace the entire piece so as to not add more joints that can cause new problems in the future. Other companies just wanted to piece in a 4 foot or 6 foot section. We had two rafter tails that were also damaged by dry rot. Mariners is the only company that offered to repair this damage properly. They cut the rafters off flush with the house, then added a new rafter tail that extended into the attic twice the distance as the rafter projected outside of the house. This new piece was securely nailed alongside the existing rafter in the attic. Other companies just wanted to cut the damaged portion of rafter tail off and toe nail a piece of rafter tail to the cut off end of the original, which would have greatly diminished the rafter's ability to support the roof, possibly causing sagging of the fascia board and roof over time. Our repair crew varied from 2 to 4 people as the day progressed. One person, James, just took care of spraying our attic with Boracare, something we requested as a preventative measure against termites after a few wings were found in the attic. Shawn spent part of the day, first explaining to the crew everything that needed to be done, then helping out with some of the work. While replacing some wood around our balcony that had been repaired poorly by another firm some years back, Shawn discovered evidence of a water leak. He took the time to trouble shoot and find out where the water was infiltrating, which led him to finding an additional area of dry rot that no one had seen previously. Mariners dug out the deteriorated wood, treated the surface with chemical then filled-in the hole with Bondo, and finally sealed the flashing that was the source of the leak. They did a fabulous job of texturing the repair so that it matches the rough sawn look of the lumber. Once painted it will not show. Nefi and Jared were too other crew members who were outstanding. We were amazed at how quickly they were able to remove roof tiles, pull down a 14 foot long deteriorated fascia board that was about 25 feet above the ground and replace it with an exact match; reinstalling all of the tiles and assuring that everything was just like the original construction. They work at an incredibly fast pace, but their work is NOT sloppy. They are skilled and make sure that every repair is done perfectly. Everyone on the crew is smart, articulate, pleasant and eager to please. We enjoyed watching their performance and interacting with them. All the replacement wood is soaked with a termite preventative solution (Boracare) the day before it is brought to the job. Mariners primes all surfaces of every replacement board prior to installing. Later a second coat of primer is applied to all the exposed surfaces. The construction crew at Mariners makes sure that the job is done right! While working an area, if they find additional unanticipated damage or other problems or flaws that are causing the dry rot, they take care of it. They do not "nickel and dime" you with extra charges. They just do what is necessary to provide a quality job and to assure both the damage and the cause of the damage have been addressed. Other companies have a clause in their proposal that if they discover further findings there will be additional costs. We are recommending Mariners Pest Control to all of our neighbors. We will use Mariners again if the need arises. read more

Would not recommend or use again. Used them the first time with no issues then when I used them a few years later (a few weeks ago) I did not have a good experience. Everyone you speak with will quote u a different price. I wish I wrote down what the final quote was because I do feel screwed. When I went to pay over the phone they said it would be $600, I said no way did I agree to $600 then they put the phone down and said it was a mistake they looked at the wrong account. She came back and said it's $350. I said that still seems too high. She then put the phone down again and came back and said, "sorry it's $300 I read the 5 wrong." This place seems way too shady, be careful and get everything in writing if u do go with them. I brought it up to her attention, that it literally says they do inspections in that city on their website, of which immediately she responds with, "oh awesome, have a good day" and hangs up. No call, no show! Very unprofessional! I had a confirmed appointment for Saturday morning and nobody ever called or showed up. When I called the receptionist to see when they will be there, all she could do it write a note to customer service and ask them to call me. After 20 mins and no call, I called back and the receptionist again said all she could do was put in a note to have customer service call me. I told her this is for a $3M escrow and this is now going to cause issues for this transaction. The receptionist then said she would put in an emergency note so that someone would call me asap, I also asked her to include a note for a manager or supervisor to call me as well as this is unacceptable. It's now Monday, two days later and still not a single call from anyone at the company. By far the worst pest control company I've ever dealt with and being in real estate, I've dealt with a lot. read more

They did a good job getting the rodent our of our home and garage. The issue I have is their follow up when we said there was an issue in the roof still they kept missing their appointments and would not show up. This is unprofessional when you offer to follow up part of the price and not follow up properly. What then it feels like is you come to get the money but when the job is not fully finished you don't show up because you've taken our money. They basically never came up for the follow up because they missed so many times we gave up. We now have to hire someone else new. The unfortunate part is we were planning to hire them to kill and tent for termites but because we got such bad service we will not be a returning customer. read more

Non-responsive, rude, unprofessional, ineffective. Just a few words to describe this company. I contracted with them several years ago to take care of a termite problem, which I THOUGHT they had done. They put me on an annual service contract. Several months ago, I noticed termite droppings coming from a door they had just treated. I called and had them come treat it again. By the time they got there, the casing on the door had been eaten away entirely about an inch and a half or so above the floor. I knew I was going to have to replace the casing, but what I DIDN'T bank on was that their so-called "treatment" didn't even last 90 days. When the contractor came last month to replace the casing, he pointed out that there were fresh termite droppings. So I couldn't have the casing replaced. See the picture attached to this review. This is INSIDE a house built in 2001. On October 17 I called for service, AGAIN. The earliest date they would give me was Friday, November 1 between 3-5 PM. I took the afternoon off work to go home and wait for them. THEY NEVER SHOWED UP, NEVER CALLED! A total waste of my time. Monday (Nov. 4), I called and confirmed they blew the appointment. No apology, just "we can reschedule for November 14". I asked to talk to the owner, Nathan. They told me he would be back tomorrow (Tuesday). I left him a message. No call back on Tuesday, so I called again. I spoke with the office manager. She told me Nathan would be back Thursday. I explained the situation and that the 14th didn't work because I was going out of town that morning. She told me she would "see what she could do" and would call me back. NO CALL BACK. Thursday (today) I called again, asked for Nathan. "He'll be back on Monday". When I complained that every time I call back the owner's availability keeps being just out of reach, the person I was speaking with got rude and said "He's not here. If you want you can leave a message." I didn't bother. I told her to let Nathan know he'd be getting reviews on why I've gone from repeat customer to dis-satisfied EX-customer. Then I hung up in her ear. I live in Los Angeles. When I first contracted with Mariner's, they must have been advertising in L.A. because I had no idea they were in San Diego County. They are obviously way too busy to service outside of their immediate area. So my advice is find a local L.A. company. That's what I'm going to do. But first, I want a complete refund of my annual maintenance fee for non-performance. We'll see how that goes. read more

It's been about a week when Mariners Pest Control completed the job. We decided not to tent the house, but to fumigate infected areas and repair damaged areas caused by termite infestation areas. Douglas, inspector, that provided estimate, checked infested areas, measurements, etc., is honest and upfront. The office called to schedule date (3 days) and followed up. Jeremiah, Alfonso, and Josh were the three sent to do the work. EXCELLENT employees of Mariners. They were courteous, respectful, and were always on time. On the third day and work was completed, Jeremiah walked me around and showed me where/what were done. They did more than expected. first of all they were late not even a call and the owner rinse the chemical in my planter and left goopy crap all over my hose and nozzle. It was all over his close, eyeglasses and face. he then asked me to use some rubbing alcohol to clean his glasses and use the whole bottle. It was full. It was like a clown act. I also told him I have special need dogs and not to spray anything ground level, only to find after he left that he left the lid to the can with chemicals all over it in the back that my dogs found. Very disappointed with this service. I called yesterday to have someone come out for a rodent inspection. They told me they'd have someone come out at 9am as my boyfriend needed to leave for work at 10am. They assured me this would be no problem. My boyfriend stayed home from work this morning, waiting for the inspector. He waited until 10:30am without anyone showing up. This totally wasted his time. We haven't gotten a call back since I let the woman know the inspector didn't show. We're super easygoing people & I've never written a bad review but this rubbed me the wrong way. Nathan is a fair guy, and he is honest. I would highly recommend asking every termite company how much gas they plan to use on your house. Reason being there is no industry standard so they may only use enough gas to treat half your home, charge you regular price. I learned this from Nathan. Example 1 of why I appreciated working with Nathan. You need to read the contract, before you sign with any company. As you can see from previous reviews, things can get broken. I had an experience where something was broken. Based on contract, Nathan could have told me to take a hike. In the end, he was a decent guy and treated me the way that I would like to think I would act in the same situation, with fairness. Example 2 of why I appreciated working with Nathan. In the end, he treated me with honesty in all accounts, and he was fair. He was also the best priced, but the price is not what got him 5 stars. read more

Andy came to my house and provided a detailed estimate. He was flexible and provided answers to my concerns about the fumigation active ingredient Vikane. He was thorough and provided educational links and materials for me to review before we schedule the fumigation. His team needed 2 weeks notice to schedule the fumigation and his team will work will the gas company to turn off your gas too. Also make sure you have enough bags to store your food and medicines. We double bagged our food and medicines. On the day of the fumigation his team arrived at about 9 AM and was ready with extra bags for us and was already on the roof putting the tarp around the house. Please note that you will need to call your satellite TV company after the fumigation in order to realign your satellite dish. Andy's team was helpful and had the tarps ready to go within a few hours. When the fumigation was finished, his team had the tarp off and had my house aired out by the time I got home early the afternoon on the 3rd day. The entire process took three days and two nights. I do not write many reviews and I am not long-winded. I called, set up an appointment; we had someone stop by. He educated me on what they look for, what they do, how they do, and what was there. We found traces of termites, we got them spot treated (got rid of them) and got me all set up for a 2 year warranty (with them coming back each year) and then a renewal, so they can continue to check the house to make sure we keep it termite free throughout the years to come. I signed up, as per my nextdoor neighbor's recommendation, with Mariners Pest Control, 4 years ago. I am very pleased with this choice. They pick up the phone quickly, and always do exactly what they say they will. They also come by every year, for an annual inspection, as per part of the contract agreement. Three out of the four year visits, a gentleman named James Denton, came out, and when he did, I was always pleased with how incredibly precise he is, in searching my home, for evidence of Termite Damage or droppings. Came for inspection. Price quoted for treatment, which is their minimum for any termite treatment and even with application of the coupon, was almost double of others. Showed a picture of supposed damage in attic on painted beams, which do not appear to be from my attic. Later inspections by others and myself did not find painted beams or such damage. Update 1: Literally within a few minutes of posting my review, they called and left me a message offering to do another inspection in order to demonstrate that the attic damage was in fact from my attic. Although I could appreciate how responsive that was and that they tried to make it right, I did not give another star because it felt really creepy to be tracked down instantly (matching my name, number, and address) and contacted without asking to be (perhaps they could have just responded here instead). Update 2: A few minutes after Update 1, received another call but no message, from a mobile number in the same area. If this is Mariners, please respond to my review here. I do not appreciate the calls as it is making me very concerned. Also, if the intent is to clear up something wrong with my opinion, it would likely be better done here in front of the community. It's frustrating when you initially are really excited about a service, based on how attentive they were with describing exactly what their game plan was, and giving you an exact price breakdown. They seemed like they had their stuff together. After we spoke over the phone, we scheduled our appointment for a Saturday to have them come out and inspect and service our home. Instructions were simple, to be available at the time we agreed upon and to empty everything in the kitchen cupboards in order to service the kitchen with the roach problem we've been having. I followed the instructions, waited at home for them to show, and no one came. I was frustrated, yes, because I waited around half the day for no one to come, but mainly because I unloaded and subsequently reloaded my kitchen cupboards for absolutely no reason. I realize mistakes happen, so I gave them another opportunity. We rescheduled again, for another Saturday (about a month out because they weren't doing Los Angeles runs until then...strange, but whatever). The next scheduled Saturday rolls around, and the Thursday before I called Crystal (the person who I've been communicating with) to confirm my Saturday appointment. I wanted to make sure to do my due diligence so nothing falls to the wayside. She tells me "Yes, absolutely. I've made sure that you will get serviced on Saturday!" So my mind it at ease. I remove everything from the cupboards (again) for Saturday morning, and wait around for them to show. WHAT A SURPRISE! No one showed. Again. The crappier part is that when you try to call on a weekend, only an operator picks up, and all they can do is take your phone number for them to call back. NO ONE EVER CALLED ME BACK ON BOTH OCCASIONS. Crystal apologizes profusely again. Tells me that the office manager to the tech/service people that I had cancelled my appointment due to that Saturday being a Saturday before a holiday weekend. I NEVER made any such call. Overall, this was a completely frustrating experience. They clearly do not have their lines of communication in order, and left me doing more work than the ZERO amount of work they did for me. I would never recommend them and strongly suggest any future customer to look elsewhere. read more

It had been a number of years since we last had our house tented. Shawn came out and walked me through all the many issues found on the house. He discussed in detail all my options and talked me through how each of the options would be handled. He answered all my questions and was always available to answer all the rest of my questions as I thought of them. Once I chose the option that best suited our needs Shawn assembled a great team. At that point Shawn brought out Nefi and Saul. What a team! Nefi and Saul went to work and didn't stop throughout the day. They took a massive job and made things look like new. Unorganized and unprofessional. Had an inspection scheduled for Tuesday 11/7/2018 for 9 am. Drove one hour to the location and made sure I was puntual and respectful of this company's time. Unfortunately they didn't have the same attitude. Never showed up. No call no show. Called them two times. They told me they would call me back. Never called be back. Sat there for 4 hours waiting for them and then just decided to leave. Guess I'll hire someone else. DO NOT hire this company. Believe the reviews. They do not show up. The original time a lot was 10AM. They never showed up, then they gave us a second window of time, again did not show up. We thought, okay, third time's a charm. It is now an hour after the end of the third time slot and it is dark outside. No one she's showed up. To make matters worse, when we got someone on the phone there were no apologies for not showing up, just a comment that he can still charge us- FOR NO SERVICE and not showing up. No apology after 7+ hours of waiting and no service and they say is they are charging us. Horrible customer service and unreliable. read more
