Pretty and conservative women's clothing. The one star is because the employees sucked. Both girls standing behind the counter looking bored while I and other customers were looking around. We were never greeted either. Someone wanted to try something on and instead of getting up and helping them the girl pointed to the dressing rooms and told the customer "they are over there". I was in retail for 40 years. They should be fired. Apparently they were having a sale but the sale prices weren't on the tags. I won't be going back. Advice about parking: go on the weekdays, weekends are almost impossible. read more

I entered the store on 10/26 seeking some soft cotton shirts, anticipating an easy and direct shopping experience. However, a young man with curly hair at the checkout was engrossed in a conversation with two others about their classes, particularly focusing on queer culture. They discussed one of them working in retail and facing rude customers who refuse to leave tips after purchases. Regrettably, the clerk continued to disregard me, and despite my efforts to get his attention, I received no recognition whatsoever. I felt entirely invisible. I proceeded to the fitting room to try on a different size, but once again, there was no help available. Afterward, I went out to find a different size by myself. Eventually, when I thought I could finally get his attention since it was evident I wanted to check out, he began speaking to me. He casually complimented my hair color, but I was there to purchase shirts, not to engage in idle chatter. I couldn't help but reflect on the decline of customer service. It seems like there are many young people today who prioritize chatting over assisting, and focus on tips and queer discussions when immediate help is needed. After this experience, I have decided not to return to this store. I am weary of encountering these types of young people. read more

Shopped here for the first time and bought a terry shirt. I wore the shirt once and strings started unraveling all over the shirt. When I brought it in to return it I was told "oh yeah, the terry shirts do that". Seriously? For $80, I get a shirt that falls apart? No thanks. read more

Material is incredibly comfy, return policy is generous, and the store associates were very helpful. The website justifies the $100 for a pair of joggers by saying their clothes are made in California. But upon closer look at the tag, it's clear that they outsource the labor to China. Personally I won't be returning the joggers because I do like them, but I do wish the company would be more honest with their marketing. Don't lie about being a California made product when you clearly outsource the work to China. Tl;dr- Clothes are comfy, but they charge $100 for joggers to maximize profits instead of paying fair wages for Californian manufacturing like they imply through their marketing. read more

Rude staff, but nice clothing! I try on two tops and afterwards go to return the clothing back to where I picked them up. A staff member says "I can take the nose", I first thought I misheard and asked her to please repeat. I hear the same words, and give her one of the items back, not knowing what "nose" meant.. I assumed the hangar? Then I go to put my non-hangar shirt away and realize she may have said "those"! I give her the other shirt and say "sorry I thought you said nose!". She chuckles arrogantly and responds "I did say nose", and laughs with her coworker. I'd guess because I didn't pick up immediately that was she was saying "no's"... This totally could be another case of Abbott Kinney entitlement, so no disrespect to Marine Layer, but big yikes on the people working there. read more

It is quite a feat to find parking on the actual street the store is on. We were fortunate enough to do it! There can be parking to find down some of the side streets, you just have to be willing to walk a little. I must say that this store is like a throw back in time. Marine Layer has a vintage Bowling Ball Return Machine with a bowling ball sitting on it. Pretty interesting for decoration! I really liked the ambiance of the store. The staff was very helpful. I was set on 3 different shirts I would have loved to have purchased, however, they weren't in my size. BUMMER! This store has a small inventory of like clothing in different sizes. I was told I could check online to see if they had what I was looking for. One of the employees told me that their clothes are made in California. Gotta love that... jobs for Californians! Truly, the shirts are soooo soft, like a nice broken in t-shirt, but brand new! They sell clothing for men and women. They have graphic & plain T-Shirts, scarves, shorts, hoodies, etc. The designs on the t-shirts seemed to be unique, there was one in particular that I have never ever seen before, the "Climb the mountains and get their good tidings". My son's girlfriend bought this one for him since he loves to hike the mountain trails. I'd say their products are on the pricey side. They do have a good deal going on, their 3 for $90 sale, on certain items. You have to be willing to pay a little more for quality and items that aren't mass produced. read more

The staff at the store are super friendly and crazy helpful. The manager was quick to resolve an issue I was having with an online order. TIP: if you want to order anything, do it direct through the store. DO NOT do it online. The online customer service is truly horrendous. Possibly the worst experience I've ever had. Definitely not a reflection of the staff at the stores, plus they'll help you on the phone. Call them and place orders direct. Avoid online. read more

Marine Layer is a cute little boutique on Abbot Kinney. They have some really cute clothes! It can be a little pricey, but worth it for the comfort. Their t-shirts are super soft! I love that they have their own size, Marge, which is in between a medium and a large, if you hadn't guessed that yourself. The salespeople are always super friendly and helpful when I'm looking for something here. I've only been twice (once for a Yelp event and once on my own), but I'd likely come back. read more

There's some stuff that's expensive but the quality is so good and their intermediary sizes are unusual. Not many companies do that, especially for men. I'm a big guy but sometimes XLs are made for a fat, shorter business man or the starting linebacker for the Los Angeles Rams. Seems like a big range. Very cool new store in Venice. I didn't know what to expect since I'd seen their shop in San Francisco before, but it's nice to see a SF brand grow. The store is cool, and their new clothes are totally rad. I got a few woven shirts and a t-shirt. I guess what they say is true, absurdly soft. My wife seems to really dig her scarf I bought her too. Crazy comfy cloths. I would say their t-shirts are the perfect thing to go for a long jog in. Service was prompt and friendly. The sales associate stood just far enough back that I didn't feel like she was on top of me whilst also being there to take another item to the dressing room so I didn't have to carry it around while I continued to browse. I would describe Marine Layer as being similar to Aviator Nation but with a bit more versatilely in their cloths. You could actually wear Marine Layer stuff out in public without being a full blown beach bum in sweat pants and t-shirt, but still getting to rock mega comfy shirts. If you like the California style of cloths I'd come check it out. I got 2 shirts, button down, and a henley. Super excited to wear them. Be ready though. It's Abbot Kinney so parking can be brutal and the crowds vast. read more
