They move so much product that everything is always different, so it's fun to peruse. The staff won't pressure you to buy anything, but they will make recommendations and are sweet and helpful. But their customer service sucks! they need to hire new people, the cashier girl was really rude has a lot of attitude, sweetie either you take your Xanax before work or you find a new job that you actually enjoy. I honestly was willing to buy more stuff but again because of the rudeness and bad service I ended up buying stuff next door at Ananda. I absolutely love Skylark! I'm surprised to see that I haven't reviewed it before. It's hands down one of my absolute favorite boutiques on Abbot Kinney, along with its sister store next door, Ananda (and hey, that's saying a lot, because Abbot Kinney is basically a row of funky boutiques - they have a lot of competition, and still come out on top in my book). I've been coming to Skylark since I was a teen, but began to frequent it when I first moved to the Westside almost 4 years ago. It's an awesome space with a great vibe - vintage velvet couches, violins mounted onto the walls, great music, and of course, a great selection of clothes, shoes, and accessories. I'm a total sucker for their jewelry, which is a great mix of earthy and modern. It's also a great spot for gift shopping, since the inventory is super versatile yet stylish - you truly can't go wrong with it. I've bought several friends presents from Skylark over the years and they've all loved their gifts. Everyone I've encountered who works there is awesome and friendly. But I'm biased to Brenna - she's a stone cold fox and always plays the best music. Overall, the customer service is always spot on; I've never had any complaints. Speaking as someone who's very familiar with Venice (having lived there for a year and going to Abbot Kinney multiple times a week), Skylark is always among my recommendations for the best boutique on the block. I was looking for a cute outfit for this outdoor event and it needed to be comfortable but i did want to stand out. Of course i was rushing to figure out what to wear and my friend told me about Skylark so I said fuck it, let's go. To my surprise there were so many cute looks and i could not stop gagging over all the chachkis and home goods. They were all super unique that I ended up buying 4 pairs and then a cute black long sleeved shoulder top that was around $28. I had gone to Abbot Kinney with my adult daughter. I went into Skylark and found a pair of $72.00 size 8 sandals and purchased them for my wife of 25 years. I have purchased my wife shoes and clothing on several precious occasions. I brought her the shoes and she said they were small for a size 8. I returned to the store and asked for a refund. I was informed by the sales associate, in an extremely rude tone that I was only entitled to store credit or an exchange. I asked why I could not get a refund and he said it was their policy. I asked where was this posted. He said on my receipt and on a note card inconspicuously located among merchandise (it would not make sense to be on the receipt after you make the purchase). He said he was not authorized to issue a refund. He said I could email the owner and that he was unable to call the owner (I immediately emailed the owner but did not receive a response until 4 hours later that said they offer only exchanges). He said they were a "mom and pop" store and not a corporate store able to issue refunds. I said the shoes were not "mom and pop" priced and he replied, "For Abbot Kinney they are, have you been to the other stores on Abbot Kinney?" I eventually found two items that totaled to $68.00. I asked if I could have difference in cash and he said he was not authorized to issue a refund. I was unable to find anything that would make up the difference so I exchanged the two items. He did give me the difference in cash without issuing me a new receipt and without saying a word. Skylark violates the DISPLAY OF RETURN POLICY BY RETAIL SELLERS (Civil Code Section 1723). Recognizing this, the legislature has enacted a law (Civil Code section 1723), which requires retail sellers to post their refund policy, if the policy does not meet certain common expectations. These common expectations are: * The retail seller gives a full cash or credit refund, an equal exchange, or some combination of these, and * The customer may return the merchandise for at least seven days following purchase, if it is returned with proof of purchase. When Return Policy Must Be Displayed If a retail seller has a return policy which does not meet these common expectations, the seller must conspicuously display its refund policy as described in the next section. This conspicuous display requirement applies to any retail seller which sells goods to the public in this state whose return policy as to any of those goods does not meet these common expectations. If a retail seller sells some goods under a return policy that meets these common expectations, but sells other goods under another return policy, the seller must comply with the conspicuous display requirement as to the latter goods. I have highlighted the sections of VIOLATED by Skylark as to their policy and failure to be in compliance with the code. Location and Contents of Display 1723. (a) Every retail seller which sells goods to the public in this state that has a policy as to any of those goods of not giving full cash or credit refunds, or of not allowing equal exchanges, or any combination thereof, for at least seven days following purchase of the goods if they are returned and proof of their purchase is presented, shall conspicuously display that policy either on signs posted at each cash register and sales counter, at each public entrance, on tags attached to each item sold under that policy, or on the retail seller's order forms, if any. This display shall state the store's policy, including, but not limited to, whether cash refund, store credit, or exchanges will be given for the full amount of the purchase price; the applicable time period; the types of merchandise which are covered by the policy; and any other conditions which govern the refund, credit, or exchange of merchandise. Their sign is arguably not conspicuous and does not include what is required by code. The Civil Code prevents retailers who believe they have the upper hand once they take your hard earned money to keep it to pay their exorbitant rents. It is shameful the owner operates her business in this manner and her sales associates have to deal with her policy that violates the code. Be a savvy, smart and informed consumer. With the tin stars on the walls, folksy music and twinkly lights, this store felt a little like Disneyland's BIg Thunder Ranch transplanted to Abbot Kinney Boulevard. I guess what I mean is you probably won't find any real cowboys shopping there, but if you're a hipster with Western flair this would be right up your alley. The prices were not too bad. There was a diaphanous white skirt with embroidered red roses priced at $60ish that I was tempted by, but I'd already spent my moneys at the other cute nearby shops. read more

Even though we didn't have much time to shop, I managed to score a cute leopard long hemmed sheer maxi on sale ooh wee! Great selection of urban clothing, they carry a few brands you might be familiar and all for reasonable prices, I'm one of those straight-to-the-sale-rack type of shopper before exploring the rest of the store... They have a good amount of tops, pants, and lots of cute fringe bags to choose from. They also carry the cutest lace up boots/booties! This is one of a few small boutiques left on Abbot Kinney that I found to have inexpensive holiday gifts. They have an assortment of women's clothing, jackets, shoes, vintage, jewelry, scarves, candles, and other home goods that are great for family gifts. I purchased an incredibly soft scarf and candle for my mom, and for my sister some handmade jewelry. The sales staff was very helpful in helping me make decisions that reflect their different styles. I learned while I was there that Skylark had been around long before the street was filled with high-end restaurants and retail. Walking down Abbot Kinney, my friend and I heard a Lauryn Hill song playing and decided to wander into this store so we could listen. We started browsing, really just so we could continue to listen to the music, and ended up finding several things that we loved. There is a great selection of accessories here, and some really fun art. Really liked the clothing selection, too. Definitely will come back to peruse again! Cool little boutique on Abbot Kinney. Has very boho chic, vintage and western styles.  Love the twinkling lights and sweet charm of this store. Reminds me a little bit of Anthropology. They have a great selection of not only clothes but handbags, shoes and accessories as well. You can find great pieces here to accessorize from head to toe. I LOVE this store. I love practically everything they sell. Tops, dresses, pants, hats, jewelry, sunglasses...literally everything. I'm a very picky shopper who loves to comb through every square inch of the store I'm in to make sure I find all the "gems". This can take an eternity (have you seen the size of H&M?) and usually turn up only a handful of amazing pieces I love. At Skylark, there's no combing. It's all right there with a staff to help you put it all together. Don't let the size deceive you (that's what she/he said )- I didn't have high hopes of finding anything in a smaller store (again, I'm PICKY), but I was pleasantly surprised! A friend and I were walking around on Abbot Kinney and popped into Skylark for a bit. I saw a great grey bag, perfect as an overnight or weekender or a daily purse if you're one of those people who has big bags. They have a nice selection of leather shoes, boots which are vintage, purses, clothing, and accessories. The layout of the store has an antique feel though everything but the boots are new. Items are displayed in a homey yet aesthetic manner, everything has a place and purpose but it isn't like some of the other stores where the t stands have 3 items only and everything is super pricey. Quite the contrary, items range from cheap (rings and earrings for $ 14 each) to moderate to expensive. I purchased 2 pairs of fun earrings, gold pistols that dangle vertically and another pair with a unique print on a metal circular cage like shape. I got a Christmas gift for a friend also, a tiny pill box that she can put, um pills or something in there. The shop associates were very friendly and personable. They were chatting freely but also engaging as we browsed around. She was helpful when I asked for a black purse and genuinely seemed to enjoy working there unlike some retail clerks who clearly hate people and the heightened shopping season. One day I decided to take the plunge and I've been back a dozen times since. The buyer does a great job and most all of the items in the store are stylish and affordable. I docked a star because sometimes, though rarely, the person working the counter plays that "I'm too cool to greet you" shit which I find totally unacceptable. Came in with my nieces to buy one of them a present/outfit for her 16th birthday. This teenager had no idea at all what she wanted and what would look cute. The team was really helpful and I am pretty sure gave her majority of the outfits and different combinations of them to try on. As a person who HATES shopping I was glad that I did not have to go through the store and help her pick something out and the staff was really happy to help. Store Manager even recommended accessories that would be perfect for instagram pictures (which everyone knows are really important for a teenager). Her sister was also trying on couple tops and while another customer saw how it looked on her, decided to purchase the item as well! So that is always great, helping out local businesses in the community. It was a great experience and now I don't ever have to worry about presents for these girls, and will be just bringing them in. Some of the unique items that they used to feature (cowboy boots, t-shirts, hats) were no longer being sold and the selection seemed to focus a bit more on basics.
