I went to Jo last week for a haircut---I've had significant hair loss in the last year--and he cut it with layers and a few inches off and made my hair SO fluffy and healthy!! I really wanted to like this place - it's so cute, and right next to my workplace! I got an appointment on the same day I called, which was great because my hair was getting thick and unwieldy (RIP all my hairties trying to keep the horse tail together). I won't name the gal because she was super sweet and I think she may be new (I don't see her name listed anywhere here). I asked for a trim and to thin my hair out without doing a ton of layering (typically what stylists do is do it on the layers underneath with regular scissors/the thinning shears). She did thin it out some after asking, but not by much. This wouldn't be as obvious if the layers weren't blunt and choppy (see photos), but it's hard to hide both down and when up in a ponytail. My hair looks kind of like a hacked paintbrush when it's up. Hoping I can camouflage it with a curling iron (They also don't style it after cut, but with the rates I can't complain too much). I might come back to try a different stylist - parking was a breeze and the prices were pretty darn good ITP. read more

After calling 10+ hair salons since Thursday (It was now Saturday), I was just wandering around Atlanta typing in Hair Salons, into Yelp! crossed with 'Near Me' and just trying to scope one out. I finally was in an area around Inman Park and this salon came up (it didn't come up when I was on the west side. (West Midtown). They actually had an opening for me and I went the 1hr later. I was so excited. The place was so kind french modern minimalism. LOVE THAT! Two colorists were on deck and after the consistent rave reviews, I didn't even worry about my color. In my experience, redkin color salons always know what's up. I'm asian, so I want caramels and taffy and natural highlights. No brass, and NO orange/rusty colors (ugh.). I was so impressed. I left feeling really good. Usually I feel apprehensive until like day 2or 3 and leaving the salon like uh - yeah..it's uh fine! But I really left here feeling great. The staff was friendly. Amanda is a really great colorist. We had to figure out my cut a little bit, but I'm trying to grow my hair out and that is always complicated. I had a wonderful haircut and balayage experience here, and the stylist was patient and attentive. I did face a lot of micro aggressions with her (won't name to embarrass) and it was very uncomfortable for me to sit through for a few hours to be questioned about my ethnicity, lifestyle and stereotypical questions about Indians. I chalk it up to inexperience / general ignorance, and she was very sweet otherwise and stayed after hours to give me an amazing cut color and blowout. I've been going to MarieMarie Salon for YEARS. I started with Marie, when she had first opened the salon, and always had a fantastic experience. Now her bestie Jordan owns it, and I love her every bit as much as I loved Marie! Jordan always gives me a phenomenal cut that grows out SO well. I travel a lot, and I've gone MONTHS at times without a haircut, and it still looks great when I go into the salon. I also love Jordan's color. She's great at keeping my hair shiny and healthy, even when I'm trying out weird colors! Everyone who works at MarieMarie is friendly and fun and laid-back. I could sit in that salon all day and just chit-chat with everybody! They always have great music in the background, and on nice days they leave the door open so the air feels fresh and clean, and all the lovely Candler Park sounds stream in. There's only street parking, but I've never had a problem finding a spot for my car, either on McLendon or Oakdale. And since the neighborhood has plenty of sidewalks, it's a totally safe stroll over to the salon. I've also photographed weddings where MarieMarie Salon provided hair and makeup services, and it's so much fun to be around the team while the bride and bridesmaids are getting ready! Lots of laughter and fun energy! And all the women look fabulous when the MarieMarie team is done with them! Lastly, Jordan's rates are outstanding. I'm not sure what the other stylists' rates are like, but I'm always blown away by how affordable Jordan is for an in-town Atlanta stylist. She rocks, and MarieMarie Salon is my absolute FAVE. My first impression was that they were very quick to respond to my inquiry about a hair consultation. They either e-mail you or text you, which is a very convenient communication style. This place does not normally take walk-ins, because the hair stylists schedule their own hours. I met with Patrick for a hair consultation and I wanted a rose gold ombre because my brown hair dye was fading and I wanted something new and different. Since I have very thick, long hair, the process was from 11am - 3:45pm. What I liked about Patrick is that he said he was a "perfectionist". He does not settle for mediocre work and so I was not complaining when we had to go back and rewash my hair because the color didn't quite "pop". Although my hair appointment did run into another one, Patrick was very honest and apologetic. My hair did turn out nicely, although I wish the pink color was more prominent. The pinkness did fade after about 2 weeks, which, I knew would happen. The price for just the color and touch up (my roots) was $220. Patrick said he would touch up my hair $30, but I don't think I will consider it. read more

Soooo disappointing. I had my hair cut and colored here at the end of April by Andrew. I have a platinum blonde short haircut and he didn't match the roots to my current shade - I didn't notice how drastic it was until I got into natural light and EVERYONE noticed. So - after more than two and a half hours and around $150 spent in the salon, I was pretty unhappy. Unfortunately, I don't live in Atlanta, so I couldn't go back to have Andrew fix it. I had to go somewhere else to have my color corrected and I contacted Andrew to tell him I was unhappy - even sending pictures of how uneven the color was. He promised to send a check refunding what I paid for my color. I never received the check and when I reminded him after three weeks, I never heard back. Since they are all private entities at that salon, there was no owner or manager to make sure I was satisfied. read more

I like this place. I always go see Ania. She's European and a very cool person. She cuts my hair and sometimes color, but I have plain black color; hence, I do it myself mostly. A few of my friends go do highlights with her and they like her a lot. Also, she's very reasonable with prices. As for the place, it looks awesome! It's a loft type of a place with an awesome decor. But I've been following Shay around Atlanta salons for more than a decade. She GETS IT. I dread it when I have to go to anyone else. I have been going to Mariemarie salon for about 5 years. I've hesitated in writing a review in the past b/c my amazing stylist Amanda is very popular and I am very selfish and wanted to keep being able to get appointments with her. But alas, I will share her talents with the Yelp world b/c yes, she's that good. Flashback to five+ years ago- I was salon hopping, trying to find a stylist who could cut my deceivingly tricky thick straight hair and color my increasingly stubborn grey roots. My requirements: 1. salon near my home and work so I wouldn't have to commute to my salon, 2. easy & free parking, 3. easy to make appointments, 4. reasonable pricing, 5. make my hair look pretty by cutting & coloring it. Simple, right? You would think... I went to salon after salon, as there are many within my desired area...parking wasn't too difficult for some, but many wouldn't schedule on evenings or weekends, when I was available, or didn't have new client appointments available for months. Some charged a crazy amount for extra hair color b/c my hair is long- I understand that extra dye & labor means extra charge, but it shouldn't be highway robbery. Several salons' hair color wouldn't even stay on the hair...it's like they were painting watercolors on my hair and it was washing right out. And cutting my hair...it may seem easy to cut my straight hair, but I have a ton of it...probably two or more normal heads worth. So I was pretty weary of having mediocre hair by the time I found Amanda at Mariemarie. She's so patient and accommodating, and most importantly, so talented with color and her scissors. She specializes on thick hair, and always goes out of her way to make sure I'm happy with my hair. And I am! Both color and cut always look flawless after Amanda does her magic. She puts up with my constant conversations about food and area restaurant recommendations, even though my appointments are often over dinnertime so I'm probably making her more hungry. Also, if I'm too tired to think, she lets me zone out while sitting in her chair. The salon has changed owners along the way, and different stylists have come and gone as well...everyone seems really friendly and the customer service is great. It's really easy to make an appointment with any of their stylists. I always receive a text message to remind me of my upcoming appointment, and if Amanda is running early or late, I also get a text to let me know. I went to see Lauren Fox at Mariemarie Salon, and it was one of the best (and most affordable) experiences I've had. I used to live in Boston where salons on newbury street would charge me an arm and a leg for a haircut that Lauren surpasses for half the price. I highly recommend seeing her for the best haircut at the best price point in the metro atlanta area. She is always fun, positive, and works some serious hair magic! I needed to find a new stylist after moving back to Atlanta. My hair is pretty curly so it's hard to find a stylist who can manage it, but I refuse to pay $80-100 for a Deva cut. Thankfully after some searching, I found Mariemarie. There are a lot of great curly-hair reviews for Amanda, but she was booked a couple months out and I REALLY needed a haircut after putting it off for nearly a year. The receptionist recommended Jo. I was nervous going with someone who didn't have many curly-hair reviews, but the receptionist assured me that he could handle my hair so I decided to go for it. So glad that I did! I requested that he chop off allllll my dead hair. I was a bit nervous since I knew it would be a lot, but I really just wanted to get my hair healthy again. He did an amazing job and I'm super happy with the cut! He did great with the layers and even cut the underside (which tends to be straighter than the top layers and can end up looking weird) a bit shorter than normal, which I never even thought to ask for. I'm updating my review several cuts and years later. I'm happy to say that after a renovated and updated salon interior, and new ownership, my heart has only grown fonder for mariemarie and for Amanda. I'm not kidding when I say at this point she may be the longest relationship I've had with anyone in Atlanta. Even though I'm a "regular" I've always gotten the same attention and consideration for my hair and styling preferences every time- nothing is assumed or taken for granted. They still use and sell an expanded line of earth- and animal-friendly Davines but never push the hard sell on products (although I've never regretted any product that I've bought). As this salon continues to grow, I'm pleased to say it's still the same down to earth, welcoming spot it's always been, turning out amazing hair right in my neighborhood. My boyfriend and 2 of my close friends go here and see Katie and they love her. I made an appt and saw someone else in the salon (who I won't mention to embarrass them) but I will never be going back. This may be because I was wearing a mask but one of my close friends who used to be a stylist ended up fixing my hair and said it was just straight up careless. I had hair to my hip bones (and it was damaged but she had a TON to work with). I wanted to keep it long around bottom rib length. I left the salon with hair around 2 inches below my collar bone- so she cut about 6 inches too much. It was also extremely uneven- one side was a noticeable inch longer. The layers were incredibly uneven and choppy even after I clearly stated I HATE THAT KIND OF LAYERING. I also got bangs and ended up thinning and evening them in my bathroom sink for an hour when I got home. They were totally lopsided and straight up terrible. I hate this haircut and have basically worn it up every single day waiting to have my nice long hair back. Won't be going back again. read more

I was on my last try to find a salon in Atlanta (I'm a Brooklynite who passes through for extended periods) that ended up being anything but an appalling, grossly overpriced disappointment for my auburn-dyed, super fine, super curly hair. Then.. I found ***Amanda***... hey girl! That Italian color is absolutely gorgeous and doesn't seem to ever fade. Amanda is really careful and meticulous, taking pains to mix the perfect shade and apply it expertly. She also does a great blow out and flat iron, although I plan to erect a statue to her creative twirly-q'ing (she calls it "dreading") of my curls so now I love to wear it natural. No pretension, good music, reasonable prices, high-quality products. And while my stylee is strictly New York, if you want the uber Southern Belle blonde look they will hook you up with that too, I've seen a fair few sorority babes walk out of here smiling. read more
