I have been using Sen Salon for almost 2 years now. Switched cause I wanted to treat myself more and really see what a cut can make me feel. I heard from many locals that this is the place to get your hair cut done and done right. As an Asian Male, there is truly something unique about our hair. As long as you are flexible with anyone to cut your hair, then you can be seen ASAP. I always call beforehand and I always get to be seen same day within the next 2 hours. I only had two people cut my hair here, Michelle and Ken???? Ken is a new guy with dyed hair and speaks limited English. Michelle has been doing this for a while. I loved their old location but this new location definitely helps their salon shine. Lots of natural lighting and room for them to really allow an open space concept with seating throughout for others to see the magic happens. For the price of $28 before tip for a male's haircut, I think it is a fair price to ask in this economy and prime location. Hairwashing and shampoo is included for before and after the cut. Also if you want them to style your hair and prepare it for the day then that is also included with gel/wax/hair spray (your choice). Use cash if you can to avoid the 3% credit charge fee. Been coming to Sen Salon for over a decade! The only place I'd trust my hair with! Maria is my go-to gal! I come here, get an amazing shampoo/head massage experience to start, then a cut, followed by a blow dry and hair straightened! And it's reasonably priced! Way less than the other salons I've gone to where i paid $75+ and walked out the salon with my hair still wet because it was extra $$ for a blow dry. My neighbor recommended this salon for a cut so I made an appointment with Maria. She was super cheerful, and took direction well. My appointment started on time and it was done within an hour. If you need a haircut in a pinch, I'd recommend this spot. Only reason I'd give it four stars is because she started hacking at my hair and thinned it out too much. It's just hair and it'll grow back, so I'm not upset about it, but I do with there was a bit more detail. read more

The salon is nice, and people are friendly, but they do not listen to what you want after you explain exactly how you want your hair cut. I get my hair cut once every 2-3 weeks, and I just need a trim on the sides and back b/c I'm traveling and unable to make my regular bi-weekly cut with my stylist. I walked in and was given whoever was available (mistake on my part). She was an older stylist, super nice, and I explained to her I just needed the sides and back trimmed, do not cut the top. It's only been 8 days since my last cut. She cut the sides and back just fine, and then she started to cut the top, and she kept on saying even it out, even it out ... WTF does that mean? I told her to stop cutting my hair, and I would clean it up once I got home. I walked in with my hair styled, and she proceeded to cut my hair the way she thought it would look best to her. She was surprised when I styled my hair after she attempted to do it, this was after I told her to stop cutting my hair. And she was surprised that I styled my hair up. She saw me when I walked in and directed me to the shampoo bowls. Why would I change my hairstyle when I only asked that you trim the sides and back. Please do not go to this place. Two weeks ago, I went in for hair straight perm with the hair stylist Ken, who was recommended by the owner over the phone. I noticed my hair became fuzzy after the first round of chemical washed, however, Ken said it's normal and started using hair straighter straightening my hair. I was told not to wash my hair for 3 days. After that I washed and dried it , MY HAIR WAS TOTALLY FUZZY, it was completely damaged by HIM! Then I remembered he was cutting a new coming customer's hair and chatting for a while next to me, which caused the chemicals to stay on my hair for too long and he gave me the strongest chemical which I was told my local stylist yesterday. Ken also cut off much more than I asked for. I only asked for trim. I reported it and sent pictures to the owner and asked for a refund, which he did. But he didn't apologize at all, and even after a few days I called in for any possible repair solutions to repair my hair, he said he refunded the money back to me, if he didn't refund it, he might see if he can do something for my hair!!!! oh, THANK YOU! Dare I say that I found a place where I can get my haircut in Georgia? Yep. At least for Asians, I was recommended to go here to get my haircut by my friend as he goes here. And yep, I would definitely say that the barbers here (specifically Ben) knows how to cut hair. Asian hair is a bit different to cut, and I would say it's hard to find a place that is good and doesn't mess up your hair and gets it exactly how you want it. In total it cost me $20 for a quick hair wash and a haircut. Tip your barber good and you know you'll be back because I know I will be. read more

Sen salon is my go to place for a haircut in Atlanta. Wilson is my usual stylist when I go; he's been my stylist for over 5 yrs. I like staying with the same person because they are familiar with your hair type and what styles you like. The only time I will let anyone else cut my hair is if I absolutely had to. I think one of the ladies cut my hair before and it turned out pretty well so I think they're all pretty good in general. I will say that I can only speak to the haircuts and not coloring or any other services because I have not gotten those done there because. (I usually color my own hair at home) Also, I definitely recommend getting your hair washed prior to your haircut because they also massage your scalp and shoulders! $3 extra I believe. read more

Great service, clean, and friendly staffs. I've been coming here to get my hair cut with Ben for 4 years now. He's pretty popular, there's always a line of people waiting for him. He listens well and delivers the haircut you want. I'm always afraid of Asian hairdressers who overuse the razor and thin out the hair. I've expressed this concern when we first met and he always keeps that in mind. He's friendly, trendy and great to work with. Shampoo + cut + style =$28-29. Ben's Latina shampoo girl does a great job massaging and cleaning my hair. She's pretty amazing. Her English has improved so much since I've first met her. It's great to see her and being able to exchange some pleasantly other than just a hello and smile. I tip both Ben & Shampoo girl separately... Just because the girl works so hard. He also does a great job with men's hair . Shampoo + cut =$16. I usually call Ben the morning before I want to get my hair cut to make an appointment for the same day. I find that Ben is more attentive when he doesn't have 3-4 people waiting on him back to back. I always ask what time is the best for him and go at that time to avoid waiting and also to have his undivided attention. The other hair stylists are great too from the other cuts I've seen. As an asian male with hair that just won't stay down on its own (if you have this type of hair you know what I'm talking about), these asian barbers know exactly know how to cut your hair. I just remember back in Athens, GA where you couldn't find an asian barber and they had such difficulty cutting my hair. But Elaine had cut my hair once and I have not gone to another barber in the past 4 years. She is always so nice and she even gave me her number to schedule appointments. It's not easy to find a stylist in the US who could work with my thick, coarse, Chinese hair, but thankfully Sen Salon has two of these people talented enough to handle my crazy hair. The ultimate question for any girl: "Do I want to cut my hair short?" Asked by millions and millions everyday. My answer? NO. What did I get? SHORT HAIR. After coming here to get a trim, I specifically stated that I would like a trim, my hair to stay long in the front with a little layers in the back (like how my old stylist did). To which I got a reply, "ehhh, that doesn't look right". With the first snip, he added SHORT ASS LAYERS. To which I replied, "Um are all my layers going to be THAT SHORT?" His response, "No no it's not layer. It's texture" I just died and gave up. Come back home and my hair is the stereotypical super Asian, super layered and very thin hair which I hate so much. For girls with round faces like me, this is a no go. Hit the road, Jack! Ugh. I'm giving 1 star* because the shampoo and blow put is legit. They give you a neck massage and head massage for at least 15 minutes. If you're going to get a haircut, only get one from Ben. read more

Yikes. I came here after reading Yelp reviews and will never step foot into the salon ever again. The first red flag was the shampooing process. The lady put shampoo in my hair while i was still sitting in the STYLISTs chair and not in the hair washing chair.... The whole process was extremely bizarre and uncomfortable. The stylist also gave me uneven layers that started from my chin resulting in a mullet like style. I should've known from the cheaper than usual prices to stay away. After browsing around different Asian salons in Doraville I decided to try this one out. I walked in and it was fairly busy and all the stylists were with a client. There were two people waiting when I walked in. I did not wait for to long, around 5 minutes, before Ben greeted me and asked what I would like today. I came in pretty indecisive with what I wanted. When he sat me down I asked to chop off my long, dead bleached hair for a shorter cut and color. Women hair cuts start around 28 dollars and up. I paid a total of 80 (excluding tip) for a cut and color. For what I wanted it was a very affordable price compared to other salons I was looking at. As the store started to slow down Ben took more time on my hair and was very attentive with it. He helped me decide on what would work best for me. Overall I am happy with the end result and would definitely go back :) read more

I had my hair cut by a lady sitting in the front, looked very young. The haircut was nice, and I already had an ombre in my hair but I wanted it to pop out more. I showed her a couple of pictures and she reassured me she knew what she was doing. She did not. It was by far the worst coloring I've ever seen. Even worse than doing it on my own with a ootb coloring from the drugstore. So bad. So bad. Like a four year old took bright yellow paint and did a single stroke straight down the side of my head, but starting 3-4 inches from the root...She went on further and tried to fix it but slicing off more of my hair and butchering it even worse....I paid ~$80 for my disaster hair treatment. My friends thought I highlighted my own hair in the dark and it grew out.... Bottom line is- hair cut seems safe, do NOT get lightening here, or at least with the person I had.. :-( read more

Lately I've been pretty stressed out about school as a good student should and consequently, I have forgotten to cut my hair. Being a relatively recent transplant to Atlanta, I had NO idea where to go to get my hair cut, but good 'ol yelp helped me find a place that was 1) very close by 2) cheap and 3) highly rated. Having asian hair is a little hard to get cut at any typical american hair salon, I've been to so many in the past and they could never get it right regardless of how many pictures or descriptions I give them, so i looked for an asian salon and this one fit my criteria. Walked in on a saturday around 3 and this place looked packed with customers. As I sat down to wait, one of the stylists came out and asked if I was here to get a haircut. Right away I was seated on a chair and she was asking me what i wanted. Having a larger face and shaggy hair, I just told her that I am looking for a professional, young, haircut that isn't too long or too short. She immediately got to working and snipping off locks of hair left and right. Throughout the process she was asking me if certain parts looked good, if anything needed more trimming, etc. It was awesome! I never got to have so much input in how I wanted it. Feeling pretty relaxed I just let her have free reign over the fate of my hair style for the next few weeks. When she was done, she shampooed my hair and showed me how to style it. It looks great and was very fast! The best part is that it only cost $14 for a mens haircut. I think I found my new go-to place out here in Atlanta! Also, if you were looking for a place to have kids hair cut as well, I saw a few little tykes across from me enjoying it very much and they looked so adorable afterward too! 2015 UPDATE: So it has been 2 years since my original review and I have not gone to a single other hair salon. Service is always top notch and I can't help but feel awesome after every visit regardless of the stresses of grad school life. Wilson has become my go-to stylist. My sister told me about this salon as recommended by her friend back in 2007. On the search to fall in love with a hair stylist, I never considered here as an option. You see, I have ethnic hair and this is an asian salon, they do not take appointments...and the price was so economical ($30) I was very hesitant of the skill, end result of the hair, and overall experience (long wait?). Well, while being a procrastinator and not wanting to drive far, I found myself at the Sen Salon asking for Ben. The salon had a very zen ambiance. As soon as I walked in, the young lady abruptly stopped blowing drying someone's hair (her co-worker) and greeted me immediately. I was asked how they may they help me, while she politely took my coat for me and hung it up. I told her I would like my hair washed and straightened. We headed straight to the washing bowl. They have the most comfortable chairs! You are almost laying flat when you are getting washed, with no chance of feeling uncomfortable in the neck area. Once sitting in Ben's chair, he rotated clients making sure everyone was getting service as needed. The teamwork they displayed was pretty invaluable. One lady wasn't happy with the way another stylist was straightening her hair so Ben took over to make the client happy! (She left all smiles) Okay so back to me, when I walked into the salon, I was in dire need of a relaxer. When Ben finished you wouldn't believe how straight my hair was. I am so happy. I do think that Ben's skills AND products helped contribute to the end result. I am currently thinking about no longer getting relaxers. As long as Ben is around...I should be fine :) read more

It's a little odd that they wash my hair in the chairs where they cut your hair, and use a squirt bottle for water. I liked the hair massage though. The last two times I came here, the older lady cut my hair. She cuts it a little shorter than I ask, but somehow it looks better than what I imagined. After my hair was mostly blow dried, she told me that it looks a little flat on top and wants to layer it more. She knows better than me what will look good on me. Definitely going back. read more
