My stylist and hair services: I visited Heather at Salon Modello as a first-time client and Atlanta newbie. She was very patient with me and had some great ideas about what we could do with my hair -- mostly because I'm always kinda' like, meh, do whatever you think would look good. The color was nice. The cut was great. Heather is skilled, knows what she's doing, and really made me feel like I was in good hands. I think my cut was ~$80, and my color plus foils was ~$290 -- a little pricey but it's quality work. I'll be going back. The shop and atmosphere: The salon is filled with art for sale by local artists, which I really appreciate. There are also offerings of beer, wine, coffee, tea, and water for customers -- I mean, it doesn't get much better than that. In terms of parking, there are spots on the street nearby, but the salon also shares a small private lot with the business next door (facing the salon, it's the driveway to the right) which is a lifesaver, especially for that busy area of town. The receptionist and others stylists all seems friendly, hip, and chill -- in a relaxed way and not a douchey way. I can totally imagine folks of all ages feeling welcome there. Again, I'll be going back. The only slightly odd thing about my whole experience was that the salon keeps your credit or debit card info on file to hold you accountable for last-minute cancelations, those who are atrociously late, and whatnot. And I totally get it -- it's a business and stylists lose money when that kinda' thing happens (which I'm sure is annoyingly frequent). However, it was still weird to hand over my financial information for them to store. At least it makes paying easier at the end of the appointment. I ended up talking to Sarah and made an appointment with her the following Saturday. During my appointment she answered all of my questions and was very confident she could achieve the look I wanted. I just moved here about 2 months ago and I've been going to the same person for 17 years (Typing that makes me feel old!) clearly I was nervous about trying somewhere new and allowing someone else to even touch my hair. I have thick, coarse hair and it requires special, how would I say this, taming. You can't cut it like everyone else's. I looked here, on yelp, and came across this salon. it was right around the corner from me and in an area I liked. There's street parking but also 2 other lots you can park in. I parked in the lot closer to the beltline with zero issues. Only required a quick 3 minute walk. The bright blue doors are easy to find and very welcoming. The receptionist welcomed me immediately and escorted me to the waiting area where there's drinks available I even saw beer in the fridge. Need confirmation on cost! The entire time I was there (which was a while bc my hair is nuts) she consistently checked on me asking if I needed anything. I booked a cut with Leah who was amazing she took time to talk to me about my hair. What's worked and what hasn't. It was a quick consultation prior to picking up the scissors. She was meticulous and very detailed. I'm definitely planning to see her again. Next I booked my color with Reese. He too consulted me before anything else. At first I booked partial foils. After speaking with him I went for the full on biolage (spelling?). I love my color! Looks fresh and exactly what I was looking for. Plan to see him again as well. Not only did I get a great cut and color and treated very well, I learned a lot. Leah and Reese both gave me some great instruction for my crazy hair. They took the time to walk me through different techniques and products to control me hair. Yes, it may have been a little more than I wanted to spend, but I'd gladly go back. I decided to give this place a try because of all the amazing yelp reviews and I'm glad I did. I made an appointment with Reese to do a full balayage. As soon as I walked in I was greeted and asked if I wanted water or anything to drink (I love when salons do that, gives you a good vibe right off the bat). Everyone was super nice, especially Reese. Took his time with my hair and even did a little photo shoot after. The work done truly was amazing, however when I got home I realized I wanted it a bit blonder. I called the salon and they were very understanding. They booked me with Reese again within a few days and he added the platinum sections I was looking for (which was actually this morning). And I am SO SO HAPPY with the color. I went straight to work and everyone commented on my hair which made me feel even better about it. Another thing I liked is that they explain in detail what's being done to your hair (products, techniques etc) they tell you how to take care of it once you leave, ask you what kind of products you've been using, when you'll be back for touch ups and all that so they have the full picture and story of your hair. Most salons don't do that. They cut or color and send u home. But here, they made me feel like they actually care what's going to happen once I leave and even a month or two from now. I just moved to Atlanta a few months ago and was really slow on finding a new hair salon. I am not very "with it" when it comes to hair but I'm still very particular about my hair. I had a salon that I loved in Austin and had vowed to never go anywhere else, but now that my beloved salon is over 14 hours away, I needed to be a little more flexible. I found Salon Modello here on Yelp and made an appointment with Heather When I arrived they had me fill out a short form and offered me water, tea, or wine. Heather came to get me about five minutes later (I was about 10 minutes early, so I didn't mind the wait at all). I tried to talk her through what I wanted and showed her like 12 pictures, like I said I'm not with it but also very particular. She was very patient, asked me a few questions, and talked me through a few ideas she had. I spent about two hours with Heather and decided pretty quickly that I really liked her. She isn't overly chatty but she is still very nice and friendly. We had quite a few periods of comfortable silence while she focused on my hair and I watched her work. We also talked quite a bit about things we both loved, like food and travel and she gave me a lot of recommendations about restaurants and things to check out in Atlanta. What I loved most about Heather was that she was willing to explain what she was doing with my hair. I'm a big "why?" person, I always want to know the reasoning behind things. Yes, I was a very annoying child. But, Heather patiently answered all of my why questions. She is very knowledgeable about obviously so passionate about her craft. The final product was beautiful, Heather gave me exactly what I wanted! I did something a little wild for me and added some red tones to my light brown hair. Ok so I came in for a haircut and paid with a credit card. Shortly after, I get an email that they have stored my credit card information. What?? I did not make a future appointment- which I know some places do to hold your appointment. They literally stole my data when I paid with the credit card. So no big deal right? In general, very cool salon, love the decorations, original and not cookie cutter, I love walking in and being offered wine by the friendly staff. Like all salons the real reason for a great review is it's stylists. This one goes out to Madison in particular. A true artist who really understands a person and what their going for with their hair, themselves and their vibe. She's also great to talk to. I've been here twice and seen her both times and both times I loved my hair cut and so did many others. Non stop compliments with her work always! This last time we did something a little different and I believe it has leveled up my whole self and vibe in such a positive way it's hard to describe. I have found a hair goddess and her name is LAUREN REYES! She is no longer with this salon but now has her own, Lauren Reyes Salon, in Midtown!! Congrats to her! As you can see, my hair was a dang disaster. I went to a chick several months before hoping to get the black out. She couldn't get it to budge even after three different color removers. I thought I was stuck with black forever. But NO! I found LAUREN! She not only got the black out FIRST TRY, she got it out without any damage. And then she chose this amazing red/brown color that I'm absolutely in love with. The way she explained things to me, the several techniques she used, and the final turnout of my hair all proved to me how well educated Lauren is. I was super impressed. Not only that but you can tell she has a true passion for what she does. I don't care where I end up in the world throughout life, I will fly to where ever she is to have her do my hair. The salon was a little hard to locate, as the storefront doesn't stick out all that much, but it's a really cute design. Luckily, the two times I've gone there happened to be an open spot on the street, otherwise I wouldn't know where to park! The inside is very clean, and has a an old-school sort of feel. They showcase a lot of local art that's also for sale, so it was very cool to hear that they work with local artists in Atlanta. The staff was friendly, and they offer you water/soda/wine while you wait. The booking system they utilize is great too, I liked that they texted me reminders of my appointments. After seeing about 1000+ reviews about Reese on yelp, I decided to go to him for my consultation and color. I had balayage done previously, but didn't take care of my hair afterwards so it was an ombré black to burnt orange. Yuck. I want to go platinum silver in the end, and I had messed up my hair from previous treatments so I know I was a piece of work but Reese was amazing! He was very thorough in explaining how things were going to work (I'm going to have to go back a couple more times to achieve my dream color--or my hair will just be a bristly mess) and put the integrity of my hair first, giving me lots of tips to take care of it. I was super comfortable the whole time and Reese did a great job! I wish I had before pics, but trust me, it was a mess. Most importantly, she executed exactly what I wanted (long, straight lob) and didn't veer from what we discussed. She was also super friendly and sweet, and offered haircare tips when I asked. Salon Modello is very cute, played great music, and has overall good vibes. It is in a cute area of Old 4th/Inman Park, and while the parking lot is down the street, not right next to the salon (unless you street park), I had no trouble finding parking and walking over. They were able to book me for a consultation quickly, and that's when I met DeYonna, my stylist and colorist. DiYonna is warm, so friendly, and her positive and creative energy fills the room. DiYonna listened to my ideas and guided me through our options based on her expertise. With her careful consideration (of my hair, colors, style) and my likes, we created a plan together for a radical color change. (I've never colored my hair before, so I can say that DiYonna was excellent inducting a newcomer without much conceptual or technical vocabulary to feel out or articulate a vision.) I have been going here for years now, yet this is my first time writing a review, I guess I've just been trying to keep Reese to myself but it looks like the word has gotten out. Reese has done some of the best hair color I've ever seen, once we met it was like a match made in hair heaven. The amount of compliments I've received over the years is endless. Each time I go in, I come with pictures and we talk it out and he keeps it real. I brought it to the salon's attention first privately that I was unhappy with the color I received and wanted it fixed.
