Since moving to Atlanta, Jenn Jones has exclusively cut my wife's hair and my hair. As you can imagine, my wife's hair has exuded much higher levels of badassery due to this relationship with Jenn, but my hair style has been subsequently improved from it's former shape and volume. Jenn just has a way of knowing what will work on you noggin. Thus, when she told us she was making the switch from Aviary to Akasa (maybe 100yds away), we were happy to follow. Whether you're a guy or gal in need of a fresh look, or just simple and awesome maintenance, I'd recommend Jenn. Haircuts are personal. It's always a conversational experience. If you don't know Jenn, you should. She is one righteous hairstylist and an even better person to know. Akasa is a really cool spot, too. It's another minimalist salon with all of the basics and attention to design without a bunch of clutter. My favorite aspect of their design is the reclaimed wood. It really stands out. Also, the stone countertops not only create ample workspace for the stylists, but it looks quite badass. Props for the one in charge of design. Also, take a gander at the handles for all of the drawers. They are all little animal sculptures carved out of brass. Really happy to have had so many great haircuts by Jenn. I found Akasa because I had been going to see Melissa at a different salon and followed her here. This place is so cozy and cool love the vibe and feel like all the stylists are really talented. Back to Melissa though, she's very technically savvy and is able to keep my abundant hair under control with stylish haircuts that allow me to get ready in little to no time at all. She is also constantly experimenting with new styles herself and that shows her creativity and technical knowledge of her craft. It's been almost 5 years and I can't complain!! read more

First to review...Sweet! Akasa is a magical, wonderful place. I can walk in the door looking like a shaggy dog, and by the time I walk out, Lauren has transformed me into a respectable (looking) human being. It takes that special touch, that not everyone has I have always been an old school barbershop kinda guy. When it was time for a new hair style, I decided that someone with a bit more fashion sense, and someone who curses a bit less, would probably be in order. Cue Lauren. Through a friends recommendation, I found someone who I not only implicitly trust to cut my hair, but who is also really wonderful to talk to while in the chair. Conversations typically range from economics to the story from last weekend that I can't share on Yelp. Akasa feels like your friend's loft. You love hanging out there, but you know you are not yourself, cool enough to live there. I recommend Lauren and her crew to everyone...as long as it doesn't hinder me getting an appt. read more

If you aren't getting your hair done at Akasa, you owe your tresses an apology. Ever since I found Jenn Jones, no one but this lady has been allowed to touch my hair. She's hilarious and awesome as a person, and liking your stylist is a huge part of getting your hair done, especially when you have beastly thick hair and you dye it like I do. While my loyalty to Jenn approaches blood relative levels, I must say that everyone else in the salon is right on par. Every stylist there is friendly and approachable while staying professional. You never see anyone roll out of there with ratchet hair, either--you walk in looking like you look, and you walk out looking like you want to look, and that means you look good. Be prepared to pay what you should for a good salon, which for me is around 100-150. For the experience I have, the awesome hair I leave with, a great conversation with an amazing lady, and the countless compliments I get after, it's more than worth it. Send your stylist a loving it's-not-you-its-me break up card and get your butt to Akasa. Your hair will thank you. read more

I found Akasa Salon largely because of Jenn Jones and her infamy with ombre, and ended up meeting with Lauren and it was the best decision I could have made. Walking in with two inches of brown grow out on my platinum blonde hair, I was ready to go ombre and bring more of my natural color out. My long term plan was to fully grow my hair out and see the natural color and texture for the first time in 15 years. I made my appointment for a full highlight, having no idea what I was in store for. After talking to Lauren she recommended that I add multiple lowlights to match my natural and increase the amount of dimension and brown tone, a glaze to calm my platinum blonde, and I cut. Lauren started and I have never looked back. A few hours, and a good chunk of change later, I walked out with a very natural soft looking ombre that would enable me to have a graceful transition to my natural color. I do hate that haircuts are $60+, even if you just need a trim, but that seems to be normal in the city. Overall the pricing was a little high, but again average for the city and the level of skill they all have. Best experience I have had with my hair in a very very long time! read more

Adrianne gives an excellent men's haircut for $35, which is more than your average barbershop but less than the standard $40 or $45 men's haircut at other salons. And it's better. The salon sports industrial decor, airy and light, and you get served a nice drink -- water, draft beer, or wine! Technically you can reserve appointments online, but the software is a bit wonky; better to call instead. read more

Whitney absolutely saved my hair after I thought it had been irreparably bleached at a different salon. I came in for a consultation and showed her what I had originally asked to have done, she looked at my hair and made a plan for how we were going to get me as close as possible to what I wanted. She took me from yellow back to my natural red and added a few of the subtle highlights I originally wanted. I felt so cared for and listened to throughout the entire process. She was so attentive to everything I said and what I wanted rather than having her own agenda as a hair stylist. I didn't think it would be possible to get my hair to what I wanted and she did it! Serena was fantastic. This might have been the best salon experience I've had. She goes above and beyond giving you a cut considering the shape of your head, the behavior and temperaments of your hair. She also gave me a very helpful tutorial on styling after that cut. She'll be my go to from now on. The staff was warm and welcoming. The place is trendy with a rustic industrial vibe, with none of the pretense you get at so many salons. Jacquie is the literal best hairstylist I've ever had. She pays attention to detail and I've never loved my cuts more than when she does them. I actually love my cuts so much that I even love them as they grow out. She is so respectful and honest and I know she has my best interests in mind. I know she's not going to cheat on the process just to get me back in her chair as soon as she can. Jacquie wouldn't take advantage of any of her clients and that in particular leaves me wanting to refer her to more and more of my friends. As for the salon itself, I love the atmosphere and the aesthetic that Akasa has. I'm a big fan of natural light and of plants and this salon fills all of my desires. Keep up the good work! read more

This place is soo cute & aesthetically pleasing!! It is clean and everyone is super nice. Prices are reasonable. Personally recommend Whitney Stackhouse if you have dark hair. She gave me everything I wanted and more! She was a great person to have a conversation with and explained everything out very well. Jenn Jones is hands down the most talented, creative, and kind hair genius I have ever met. My last hair person moved across the country and I thought I would never find someone as wonderful. Skip to Jenn and now I don't know how I lived without her. I came to her for highlights and she transformed my hair. Every piece is perfectly perfect.
