Traveling down to Simi and decided to check out Maria's for our favorite meal breakfast. I have the Nopalitos (first time every trying prickly bear) & eggs and my wife had the Mexican omelet. I would give mine a 3, but having never had it before have nothing to compare it to and my wife's was the same. But the service was excellent and they had lots of locals and return customers. Watch out for the house made HOT SAUCE!!!!! It was way to much for me. If I lived nearby I would be giving this place at least two more opeertuities. read more

I absolutely love Maria's! I am a huge fan of Beto's Italian restaurant in Simi Valley and then I heard they have a sister-restaurant called Maria's that offers Mexican food. If it is anything like Beto's, you know it will be delicious! I came here for brunch numerous times and each time everything was delicious and the service has been excellent. Do not be fooled by the location. It's a small restaurant with a lot to offer! For the brunch, you can get it with bottomless mimosas for an small extra charge, or without. It's roughly $27 to $23 per person for their brunch buffet. The buffet typically offers chicken soup, menudo soup, scrambled eggs and omelet station, sausage, enchiladas and potatoes. Everything has always tasted fresh. You don't have to choose the buffet option. Instead, you can order off of their extensive menu. Service is top notch. I really love that about Maria's... they put a lot of emphasis on the customer, and food of course. They greet you when you come in and show a sense of urgency in getting you seated. We ordered our food to go. We ordered 4 breakfast burritos and a side order of biscuits and Gravy. We had to wait outside and it was pretty warm outside. The service wasn't fast in getting our food. They asked us what kind of salsa we wanted and I asked for green. Once our food came, it was nicely packaged in one bag. We left. CHECK YOUR ORDER BEFORE LEAVING if you're taking out. They forgot our biscuits and gravy and there was red salsa instead of green. No ketchup. The burritos are mostly eggs so i do not recommend. I ordered the bacon breakfast burrito and crispy bacon. There's hardly any bacon in the burrito and it's mostly egg. I ordered the carnitas to baseline this place and it was served with rice and beans, I opted for corn tortillas(which were the real deal). Pork was not as flavorful as I would prefer, it was essentially roasted pork, and ended a bit dry. The beans and rice were average. My bride orders the chicken enchiladas, and I snuck a bite...they were better than my entree. Ambiance is Amarillo strip mall, service was good, and prices are inflated for area and food quality. With so many places to sample, I can't say I will go back, or recommend that anyone else does... this joint does not make the list. read more

It's about time I leave a review. One of the most consistent restaurants with great service and food in Simi Valley. Sunday, my family tried giving Mariachi Loco Grill and Cantina a try for a different type of menu to fall short, cancel our order, pay for our drinks and drive to Maria's where it is tried and true. What an extreme difference in experience between the two restaurants but nothing less than what it is every time we visit Maria's which is at least three times a month. It has been a long time since I have been so excited about a place that I could not wait to share a review with others. My friend and I came on a recommendation for breakfast and will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu! Portions are huge, prices are great, and everything I tried was delicious. The bacon was thick and crispy and as someone who has eaten at practically every restaurant with "pancake" in the name, I am going to go on record as saying Maria's has the BEST pancakes I have ever had. We came here for a Mother's Day brunch and servers here did well with navigating the crowd that started assembling and going through the waitlist. The space is quaint and charming. The menu had me salivating. Their chilaquiles is cooked with salsa verde and you have the option of getting it with beans or hash browns. The chilaquiles was flavorful and everything was cooked well! Possibly one of my favorite chilaquiles. The steak and mushroom omelette was also delicious. The eggs were fluffy and the steak was seasoned and cooked well. Nothing is more of a disappointment than overcooked eggs in an omelette and fortunately, Maria's did not disappoint! Service was great here. Coffee was frequently refilled and we were checked in on several times despite how busy it was. Since it was Mother's Day, they gave our mom a red rose and brought out a chocolate-covered strawberry at the end of the meal. It was a Mother's Day brunch perfectly executed and many thanks to Maria's for making it special with their service and delicious meals! Maria's was great! Tried this place during my lunch break with some coworkers and the they were so accommodating when I asked if they had chilaquiles since their menu didn't show chilaquiles. They have a breakfast/lunch menu meaning chilaquiles we're on the breakfast menu and at the time we all came in it was lunch. A Solid 3 1/2 to 4 Star breakfast Restaurant depending what you choose from the menu. Even though our eggs were over cooked all in all the food is good. My wife had A Tamale and Egg Breakfast that I had A taste and it was excellent. My daughters blueberry pancakes and bacon we're also very good. My sausage and eggs with hashbrowns was nothing special. Eggs Overcooked, Sausage kind of tasteless, English muffin over toasted, but The hash browns and the orange juice were OK. Great place for breakfast! We were seated promptly & the place was packed. It was authentic Mexican food that had unique flavor. I have to say we waited 45 minutes for our food. Another customer left yelling as they waited the same amount of time & were upset. A different customer had their order incorrect. The service definitely wasn't the greatest & it wasn't a great vibe while we were eating. While I still love this wonderful little spot and still...the food is always delicious, I'm bringing the 5 stars down to a 4 because they charge way too much for their menu items for the size of the portions they serve. For example the corned beef hash and eggs which is a favorite of mine (especially because theirs is homemade), they literally only gave me about 1/4 Cup. It also comes w/2 eggs, toast or tortillas and choice of hash browns or beans but for $12? I am not sure I will order it again. My husbands chorizo and eggs was $14 and the portion definitely did not justify the price they charge. Everything else we've ordered there we have found this to be the case. We don't mind paying that kind of money for breakfast, but don't skimp? Again I will say their food is delicious! read more

This is the second time I've visited this place. Both experiences have been fantastic. Since the lat time I visited, I've seen some derogatory reviews. Most were service related. I didn't see it. I sat at the bar. Every phone order was answered within a couple of rings. Food has been great on both visits. If I didn't live in North Carolina, I would be a regular. We were looking for a new Mexican place to try and found Maria's Restaurant on Yelp. What a great little find! The food was outstanding. The chips and salsa were fresh. I don't know what it is, but the chips are fantastic. The salsa was homemade and on the spicy side. A very good accompaniment to the chips. We tried a few different menu items: tacos, taquitos, and enchiladas verdes. The refried beans are lighter in color than most places and tasted delicious. I really enjoyed them. The rice was also great, very fluffy and flavorful. There were three large enchiladas on my plate stuffed full of chicken. I was very happy with this choice. Everyone else liked their menu items as well. If you drink, definitely try the mango margarita. Delicious! The peach margarita was good too. This is a very small small place and gets crowded on the weekend evenings. They were very accommodating when I called ahead though, and they had a table waiting for us when we arrived. And even though it was crowded, the service was not lacking in any way. The servers here are excellent. Everyone is friendly and helpful. They were very attentive to our needs and kept our waters and iced tea filled. They were quick to bring more chips and salsa as needed. They also offered suggestions on the menu and made sure we liked our choices. I felt very welcome here. There is plenty of parking in the adjacent lot. They open early for breakfast and they close from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm, before starting dinner service. So keep that in mind when coming here. I highly recommend Maria's for a great meal! This place has gone down. We Used to like coming here once a month The new staff was far from friendly. Nobody was pleasant. Bean dip was probably the worse I have had ever. Then to top it off after waiting 15 minutes after ordering they came to tell me they didn't have the one item I can to eat here after all. Time to find a new Mexican food spot. Last time I was there, about a year ago, both the food and the service were bad. They had four people working, and yet it took 20 minutes to get someone to get a drink order, and at least a half hour to get our food. We felt like a burden to the staff for coming in.
