They use to make the best quesadillas but the size has gone down by like half and the price has doubled. The customer service was not great. They tried to make me pay twice for my food because their card reader system is slow but I had pulled up my bank statement and showed them it went through on my end. Total hole in the wall BUT that just makes it even better! The man at the cash register was SUPER friendly and very helpful since we were deciding. The food was really good and they have instant coffee which they have three flavors for. We got the one with cinnamon and it was so good! They have TVs inside and they play music at a good level so you can still have a conversation and not compete with music or noise. They checked in on us a couple times and made sure we were good and didn't need anything and at the end they let us fill up our water bottles with water so the staff is all around friendly and helpful, the atmosphere was pleasant and I would definitely go here again! I absolutely love this place. This is hands down my FAVORITE spot to get street tacos in Simi Valley. The owner has taken my order every single time and has always given such a warm welcome into his restaurant. Service is extremely as well. The al pastor tacos definitely pass the vibe check! Meat is juicy and tasty and their salsa has the right amount of spice. I believe you can get red salsa or green salsa, I usually mix both onto my tacos. I have gotten steak (carne asada) tacos before and I do have to admit, the meat for that is a tad bit dry, but still good! For a drink, I always go with a classic, the horchata. It has not let me down yet. This time, my boyfriend and I decided to order nachos to share. They have two options for meat, steak and chicken. Even though my steak tacos have been dry in the past, we still wanted to try the steak nachos here and they were okay. The steak was not as dry as I expected! It was a little tough to scoop because the cheese was hardened onto the chips and plate, but honestly did not mind it that much. I've been going here for the past year now and I think I can definitely say that this is the best authentic Mexican spot in town. The workers here are always very nice and their service is always amazing. I have never waited long for my food and there has never been a long wait either. I always order Al pastor tacos with some papusas. I do wish that their tacos didn't come with onion and cilantro, and would rather have it available at a salsa bar where i can choose how much i can put in my tacos. Definitely will continue to come here whenever I'm craving some Mexican food. I'm not sure if this place still does promotions like 'Taco Tuesday' and others because I've seen photos of it on Yelp, but whenever I go there I don't see the signs anymore; could be an old promotion. read more

Quite honestly, I don't know where to start. This place was my top choice and I quickly regretted the decision. My partner and I only had one hour for our lunch and thought this place would be great since they had minimal customers. I tried remaining optimism of the place, 25 minutes goes by and Getting impatient, figured perfection takes time. Well we spent a total of 45 minutes just waiting for our food. When we finally got our food we quickly dashed out of there to hurry and get back to class. When I opened my box, the order was incomplete. Where I purchased a full plate I only received the entree. The food itself was decent, but not worth the wait time and lack of communication. If the place is understaffed, it is my opinion that we should be forewarned and be able to anticipate the wait or be given the opportunity to take our business elsewhere until we have more time. How ever, after my wife and I have had the desire to give every small and pop place a chance,this one failed to deliver. 2 stars for the following: Prices were not decent, in fact, A little on the pricy side. We had two Carne asada burritos, and the meat, although tender, was salty. The rest of the ingredients were just ok. Not worth it unfortunately. We've tried other restaurants in the area and much more flavourful and decently priced. This place had so many good reviews we were super excited to find a late-night burrito spot! But...we were pretty disappointed. We got some fairly simple items (bean and cheese burrito) that just tasted bland and boring. My cousin literally said "we should have just gotten taco bell" the very VERY nice lady who took our order had a very hard time understanding what we were ordering despite most of the items being flat out named items on their menu. There were a lot of repeated questions, us feeling unsure of what we were going to end up getting etc. But again she was so dang nice and obviously trying to make sure it was right...it just wasn't in the end. We'll probably give them another shot, maybe ordering in person would be better? We LOVE this place. Our favoowrrrMexican restaurant in Simi. Family-owned and operated, with generous portions, reasonable prices, a comfortable atmosphere, and excellent salsa bar! We try to get over on Tuesday nights for Taco Tuesday (even though every day is Taco Day In our lives...we love tacos and basically always want more tacos!). The carnitas and pastor (everything!) are excellent; our faves are in tacos and quesadillas. I'm not kidding that you can taste the love! We love everything about this restaurant. Even though I wish they had a patio so we could enjoy our meals there while sitting outside with our "kids" (goats), and I would also love to see margaritas on the menu someday...we lovingly refer to El Zarape as "Cinco Estrellas," because they are five stars in all other aspects.
