Food is always good here. The owner and staff are always happy to see you with good energy. I usually take out but the place usually has some music playing or music videos on the screen.

Total hole in the wall BUT that just makes it even better! The man at the cash register was SUPER friendly and very helpful since we were deciding. The food was really good and they have instant coffee which they have three flavors for. We got the one with cinnamon and it was so good! They have TVs inside and they play music at a good level so you can still have a conversation and not compete with music or noise. They checked in on us a couple times and made sure we were good and didn't need anything and at the end they let us fill up our water bottles with water so the staff is all around friendly and helpful, the atmosphere was pleasant and I would definitely go here again! The person I went with said the same thing so every time we go to Simi Valley we are coming to El Zarape! And we def want to spread the word !!!!!

Dropped in on an evening on the weekend and bought a couple street tacos and a wet carne asada burrito. Hands down some of the best Mexican food we've had. Well seasoned meat, good portion size, friendly service. Will definitely come back to support this nice small family business!!

I absolutely love this place. This is hands down my FAVORITE spot to get street tacos in Simi Valley. The owner has taken my order every single time and has always given such a warm welcome into his restaurant. Service is extremely as well. The al pastor tacos definitely pass the vibe check! Meat is juicy and tasty and their salsa has the right amount of spice. I believe you can get red salsa or green salsa, I usually mix both onto my tacos. I have gotten steak (carne asada) tacos before and I do have to admit, the meat for that is a tad bit dry, but still good! For a drink, I always go with a classic, the horchata. It has not let me down yet. This time, my boyfriend and I decided to order nachos to share. They have two options for meat, steak and chicken. Even though my steak tacos have been dry in the past, we still wanted to try the steak nachos here and they were okay. The steak was not as dry as I expected! It was a little tough to scoop because the cheese was hardened onto the chips and plate, but honestly did not mind it that much. I will keep coming back whenever I have a craving for tacos in Simi!

1st time here, service was fair, prices are decent. Food was good! Flavors were on point. Will definitely come back to try other foods. The establishment is a bit small but comfortable for our table of 5.

I've been going here for the past year now and I think I can definitely say that this is the best authentic Mexican spot in town. The workers here are always very nice and their service is always amazing. I have never waited long for my food and there has never been a long wait either. I always order Al pastor tacos with some papusas. I do wish that their tacos didn't come with onion and cilantro, and would rather have it available at a salsa bar where i can choose how much i can put in my tacos. Definitely will continue to come here whenever I'm craving some Mexican food. I'm not sure if this place still does promotions like 'Taco Tuesday' and others because I've seen photos of it on Yelp, but whenever I go there I don't see the signs anymore; could be an old promotion.

I had the Chile Relleno combo with a chicken enchilada. My wife had the steak and shrimp fajitas. The Chile Relleno was the best. It was stuffed with real Mexican cheese. Very tasty. The chicken enchilada was good, bit needed more chicken. The fajitas were tasty, but maybe not the best we've tried. Still worth getting. We left extremely full and satisfied. I've been hearing about how wonderful this Mexican restaurant is and I can see the community agrees! We waited about 20 minutes to be seated - not bad at all! The hostess, servers and busboys are so friendly and on top of EVERYTHING! They have a full bar, the margaritas are great! It's very loud in there so be prepared! Five of us dined and everyone loved their food! We started with shredded beef nachos which were wonderful! The chili verde, chicken enchiladas and asada plate were all a hit! I personally could not wait to order the chicken mole' enchiladas (I LOVE mole' and heard theirs was amazing) BUT THEY RAN OUT! So disappointed! That's all I wanted, never even looked at the menu! It's not even 7pm yet? Why oh why do you not have enough for the Friday night rush!!?? When our waitress came back to to tell me they ran out of it, (she was very sweet and apologetic) and she had already put everyone's order in - I had no idea what I wanted ‍ so I ordered a chicken taco which didn't come out until about 5-10 minutes after everyone else's food was served. Other than that snag (my reason for the 4 stars not 5) their food is awesome! I'm definitely wanting to come back for the mole' and highly recommend coming here!

Neon lights, cute signage, and overall they just did a really great job with the design and execution. There's a lot going on but it doesn't feel cheap. Ambiance is definitely A+. For dinner on a weeknight we found this spot wasn't too busy but we also came after happy hour. It was a relaxed vibe. Service was overall pretty good. I felt like all of the gals working were very very sweet and nice. Also, anytime we stopped them to ask for refills and such we got what we asked for. That's my only upgrade as since it wasn't super busy, it would have been nice for the staff to catch the refills on water or salsa on their own/more proactively but hey, it was again a relaxed lowkey night and the staff couldn't have been lovelier. I'm just curious how the service would be if they were super busy? Now on to the food and drinks. The menu was very impressive! Solid cocktail and drinks menu. I'm bummed I didn't get a cocktail but my party doesn't drink so it was more fun to get an agua Fresca with them. The guava one was good and served nicely chilled. However, next time I'll definitely get a cocktail because their drinks looked fun and beautiful. The food was definitely the standout for me. I ordered the cheese enchiladas Suizas and they were a 10/10. Not comparable to most enchiladas I've had but the sauce was fantastic and unique. I really loved these enchiladas and I'd honestly get them again. Solid flavor in the rice and beans as well. My friends also enjoyed their meal and it seemed like everyone was happy. The pricing is a little steep for Mexican food but also the ambiance and presentation make sense to me why it'd be a little more. For the three of us the bill was over $100. And that's for three mains and three non-alcoholic drinks. Normally at $33-ish a person I'd hope for at least a beer with my enchiladas, so keep that in mind. As a special occasion place or a spot to celebrate this spot is truly fantastic. I honestly loved my meal so much that even with the price point I'd rush back and bring more friends because this spot is vibey. Nice staff and a cute spot to diner, 5 stars in my books given the quality, taste of the food and the overall experience.
