There is so much promising about this store: Off the beaten path location makes it a little less hectic than other supermarkets in the area; the store is new and therefore somewhat cleaner than other grocery stores; the prices are decent, especially when things are on sale. What I hate however? There are never shopping baskets at the entrance. For the last four Saturday mornings in a row, the number of shoppers is manageable, yet zero hand baskets to be found. Each time, I have had to circle the store, scouting the end of checkout lanes, around the service desk area and any other spots I can think of to find one. Today, I asked a clerk at the service desk why baskets were no longer being stocked at the entrance and I was looked at like I was speaking a foreign language. Now, I get why they might think this is a good idea: When only shopping CARTS are available, people load up on more and perhaps it is better for sales. But for guys like me walking (not driving) through the neighborhood, I want to buzz in, grab 12 items or less and buzz out. I have gotten to the point that I will simply walk out of the store if I can't see any baskets when I enter. When it takes longer to FIND a basket than it is to fill it and check out, that reflects an obvious disregard for your shoppers. Get it together. read more

The managers there are nothing short of AWESOME. they really do go out of their way and make sure their customers are happy. Not only do they take the extra step to remedy the problem but I know since coming back the service is on point so I know they did something about it. Can i just move in here? It's that serious. Love! read more

Definitely the worst Mariano's I have been to. Marianos have always been notorious in hiring incompetent cashiers/store clerks, and this store is no exception. However, the incompetency extends to me asking the store clerk where the hand soaps were located, and him leading me to 3 isles away from where they were supposed to be. I had to go find them myself at the end. Very poorly light dining area, and you are squeezed in a corner. They are playing food network on TV, of course to entice your subconscious. Options here are also somewhat limited, which I'd expect more for a Mariano's this size. Good luck trying to find parking at the front of the store.Gelato clerks are way out of it, they were more busy complaining about their job than doing it. read more

Don't get me wrong, I think Mariano's is a great grocery store and I will continue to shop there, however their produce section really lacks something to be desired especially in the herb department. It is a guarantee that there will be at least 2 produce items I need every trip that will be out of stock. The parking situation is pretty wretched with people holding up the entrance trying to get into the parking lot on ground level. Some of the shelved products are often dirty, covered with a weird dusty film which I am assuming is leakage from the exposed pipes above and the eggs are ALWAYS broken. It takes about 5 minutes to find a good pack of eggs. The selection of foods is great and the staff is very friendly though! read more

I'm giving this review three stars because it offers more than your average grocer. You would have thought, though, that they would have built there newest location to exceed the expectations of their amazing West Loop location. Regrettably, they fail miserably. The parking lot entrance ramp is awful (who got paid to design this? request a serious refund). It's actually dangerous ... I'm not exaggerating. Unlike the West Loop, which has escalators, you have to "wait" and take the elevator to the main level ... as if your time no longer had value. Then there's the store itself. Unlike the West Loop location - which has a meaningful floor plan that generates good energy, the atmosphere here is flat. Its my guess that they built this with the intent to save a lot of money ... yet, still probably paid a pretty penny. It's regrettable because the competition in the South Loop is more fierce than the West Loop. Im in no hurry to go back ... and in fact, I expect my habits won't change much ... I'll use this store like a 7-11 (meaning, when I need something in a hurry, I'll go here). For crying out loud ... its in my backyard ... yet, fails to deliver. Worse, I'll probably go to the West Loop location ... which is pretty awesome! read more

Best grocery chain on earth. I was here last weekend and had have a live band, how cool is that. It's like whole foods but better and cheaper. Mariano's is really the only grocery buffet place that doesn't feel gross to me. Their food is fresh, awesome, and don't forget to stop by for a freshly made pizza or one of the Sicilian slices for 2.99; it's a 3 buck meal. They carry awesome products, great produce, etc. I'll be waiting for the new crowds to slow down a little. Not only is it awesome but it feels like the biggest grocery store in the area sq footage wise. Go here, eat here, shop here. Hell, at the meat counter you can buy the meat and have them grill it for you. Next time I'm in I think I'll buy a Filet, have it grilled and bring my own silverware and candle to dine right in next to the band. read more

Ahhhh Mariano's! They have the quality of whole foods and variety of treasure island but much much cheaper prices. This store has the key things that every grocer should have, they are clean, have food variety, fresh produce, great customer service and reasonable prices. If they expand their hot food bar they will be king of all grocery stores in Chicago! read more

This grocery store has a lot of variety. Much more variety than Jewel or Trader Joes. I really just wanted to check out the grocery store but we ended up leaving with things to buy. Service was fast to check out in the three items or less line. We had more than three items but since the cashiers were not busy they helped us out by ringing us up! Unfortunately the fresh juice area was not as fast in service. However, the drink I ordered was good and healthy. Prices seemed reasonable here for the things they were selling. Parking was free in their parking lot. read more

2 stars is because of the parking situation. WTF!!!! So there is a tiny parking lot out front & 2 lots up top. WTF on the in & out situation. If you park on level 2 or 3 on the weekend it is a nightmare. There are only 2 elevators. Basically, unless you want to wait... take what you can carry up the stairs several flights. I can't believe that the architects of this store much less the owners / managers never thought that 3 levels of parking will get filled & maybe, just maybe automated escalators will help ease the congestion. I am sure we are like others... we have a car & will drive to a less annoying grocery store. The downside for Mariano's is that the "all you can carry folks" might not spend as much or purchase as many profitable items due to the weight of carrying them. Also - we normally frequent the West Loop location. The South Loop location looked like there was a run on groceries at 2pm on a Saturday. I was grateful to get the last can of chickpeas, apparently I am not the only lover of chickpeas in cooking. Same thing with canned mushrooms & zero Egg Whites. Seriously... the shelves were bare. The only difference between this store and West Loop was that West Loop would have employees restocking the shelves. Where the South Loop was difficult to find someone for help. read more

Wow! Now this is a grocery store! I was pleasantly surprised the first time I visited this store. I was concerned about the parking, but there's parking on the ground level adjacent to the entrance and there's two levels of parking over the store. After you park on the either level over the store there are elevators. Mariano's has it all and the best thing is the prices are comparable or lower than Jewels or any of the other stores in the Chicago area. They have fresh squeezed orange juice every day. There are fresh meat and fish counters, hand packed Gelato, specialty coffee bar, sushi bar and just about everything you'd find at a Whole Foods, but much, much cheaper in price. Mariano's has become my go-to market. Plus, I love the atmosphere. Another thing; for people with mobility issues you can always find a motorized cart available. I counted about eight carts available and a few others were being used. The staff is knowledgeable and very friendly. In fact, when I used to shop at Walmart in Hodgkins I met a lady in the deli. She has left Walmart and is working at the meat counter at Mariano's. It was nice to see a friendly face, also. There will be other stores opening in the near future. Check out Mariano's the first chance you get. I'm sure you'll love them as much as I do! read more

I was waiting for the hype and craze to die down before going so recently, I was driving by and thought I would stop in. After driving - or more realistically sitting behind a bunch of backed up cars in the parking lot for about 15 min. I noticed the additional parking sign. A crazy ramp with tons of cars that felt like a death trap finally lead to ... yup. No parking. At this point about 25 min. had passed. I just wanted to go home. No grocery store is worth the fiasco. Whoever designed the pedestrian crossings and parking spaces did a terrible job. read more

As a new mom, juggling baby, strollers and groceries can be tough but the staff at Mariano's was amazing. Decent grocery store with a terrible front end experience tonight. Sat my basket down on the belt and was met with a blank fifteen second stare, followed with "well are you going to take your stuff out for me?" "Oh I didn't know I was supposed to do that" "Yeah, it makes it easier on me" I'm sorry, Sherrelle A., but that is what you get paid to do. Mariano's - Grocery Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

This is probably the best store so far with a chain in Chicago. This store is my fav. I constantly stop there to buy potatoes, fresh orange juice, bottled water, chicken, fish, olive oil and a whole bunch of things. My favorite is the seafood bar. They have this salmon smoked dip that I buy often because it is so good. The pastries are wonderful too. They have hot food and the prices on some of their regular items just beat out everybody from Whole Foods to Jewel. Best idea ever. I am a fan. They could make the drive up parking a lot better. Trying to squeeze through that narrow driveway is like driving on a race track, but I still love the store. read more

Mariano's is the best Grocery store chain to Chicagoland. The produce is huge and fresh and I love the prices of the bananas $.39/lb. They sell all kinds of cheeses and wines. You get your high end products and the affordable brands too. I like the Roundy's brand for corn beef hash and spreadable butter they are the best. Who doesn't like Mariano's if you don't feel like cooking your food they can grill your meats and dinner is done. read more

It would only do them justice to update my last review as they suddenly changed back to the paper bag idea. Hope they continue this. I was able to easily carry ALL the groceries in 3 paper bags. Love the food samples and love Vero! read more

Great grocery store. I've been tot his Mariano's and many others, and I can't help but give them 5 stars. Why? Well. 1. Freshly squeezed OJ. Delicious and wayyy cheaper than the FSOJ I find in Hyde park. 2. Sandwiches. These are delicious. Well, to be fair, I've only tried the italian muffaletta, but it's delicious. I always get it toasted with a little bit of mayonnaise and it's perfect. 3. Grill! Okay, i haven't actually tried it yet, but it LOOKS awesome (they grill anything for you!). Perfect if you don't want to grill actually at home. 4. Gelato! Great and cheap. 5. Bakery. It's standard but 1 notch better! Their fruit tarts are delicious and I bring one to my girlfriend's house when I visit (and end up eating most of it). 6. Chicken salad. It's delicious. I buy about a pound and make about 3 sandwiches for it for lunch (it only keeps for like 3-4 days). It's great! A nice grocery store that has everything you could want and is priced well. The workers here are also super helpful! This location also has free parking on site! read more

I love Mariano's. I think their Roundy's brand is definitely comparable to the top brands on the market when it comes to pretty much any product and it's usually the least expensive. I don't buy a lot of organic products, it's not that I wouldn't, but it's not in my budget to do so every grocery shopping trip so I may not be buying the most natural form, but I'm saving money in the long run. The beer selection is amazing - craft beer lovers, this is pretty close to Heaven. The tastings are always happening and I love going through their cheeses and wines. :) Lately I decided to go their for dinner, not ideal, but was craving sushi and needed to go grocery shopping too so why not kill two birds with one stone? The chef and associate were pretty friendly and made us some signature rolls in about 10 minutes. I ordered the Latino Loko Maki - it was delicious (smoked salmon, escolar, jalapeno, avocado, cilantro, chili mayo and sesame seeds. My boyfriend ordered the Dragon maki (probably just because of the name) and after I tried his and he tried mine, we were torn which to keep eating so we continued to share because they were both so tasty. They are open till 10:00pm too and I advise going later because it's not as busy and you can grocery shop and not be shoved out of the way (like I have been at the West Loop location). read more

The one star rating is for the food at the hot bar. I generally love shopping here for my groceries but hate grabbing lunch here. The orange chicken was very bland with cardboard texture. There wasn't a variety of choices available in meats (bland orange chicken, buffalo wings, honey wings, hard fried, tasteless chicken thighs/drumsticks and random sauteed veggies. They have to do better to update their food bar. Did they bother to taste when they cooked it? read more

Do not cater from this Mariano's!! The catering department needs to be trained on how to properly take orders and stay organized. I planned a party for 75 guests on 2/8/19. I made a catering order a week in advance and when I went to pick it up they didn't have the order. The cook rudely stated that they didn't even have enough chicken to fulfill the order. The manager stated they never received the order, but I placed it IN PERSON a week in advance. Looking back on it, the young lady that took my order wrote it down on a regular sheet of paper, not a formal ordering form. It doesn't surprise me that they forgot my order seeing as there was no organization in the ordering process. I had a horrible experience with their catering services and I will never be ordering from them again. read more

Seriously, Mariano's is one of the best grocery stores I've ever been into. It also doesn't hurt they always have samples! ; P If you've never been to a Mariano's...boy oh boy are you missing out! We are excited they finally built one close to us in the south loop. Mariano's is just amazing! Great selection especially in the produce and ethnic food selection. They've an amazing hot food bar, deli that has 6 dollar or 10 dollar menu, salad bar, pizza and sandwich bar. Seriously, eat here before shopping. FYI- if you get the meal from the deli ask them to nuke it, so it is warm/hot when you get it. My other favorite things about Mariano's is that they've samples galore! Yes, samples! Costco buys my heart with all the samples and so does Mariano's! Another cool thing Mariano's does that no other grocery store does is cook your meat for you. For example, if you buy a steak or chicken they will cook it for free to your liking (i.e. salt, EVOO, pepper, paprika, etc,). Lastly, the customer service here is wonderful! Jewel always has disgruntled employees, but Mariano's everybody is always willing to help you. read more

Someone asked me what made Mariano's better than a Jewel Osco and I didn't quite convey how awesome this place is: To summarize, it's like comparing Target to Walmart. The aisles are wider, everything looks more tidy, even when it's crowded, it doesn't feel like am entire shit show. Every single time I've asked someone where something was, they knew exactly where to find it. Not all Mariano's are the same, however. Some offer free grilling of your purchase at the butcher, steaming of your seafood, and other prepared food options. This location isn't as extravagant about their prepared foods as, say, the West Loop location, but they do grill til pretty late at night (I think 9pm) FREE OF CHARGE. What I particularly like about this location over others is that the parking situation is solid. Even on a mid Sunday afternoon, the garage isn't near full and the intersections around the store aren't congested. This is just an example of solid planning. Just about all the other city locations can easily have you waiting just to get into the parking lot, let alone trying to find a spot. Mariano's has done a good job at keeping the experience consistent across all the locations I've been through. I like going to the grocery store multiple times a week so the ease of getting in and out of this particular location is a huge plus for me. read more

I moved from West Loop so that's what I'm comparing to. Parking is WAY better without issue and it is a good store in general. That said, I've been twice and the customer service and speed of checkout is so painfully slow it makes me want to cry. The staff there is horrible and they don't even attempt to hustle. I'm not asking for conversation or a smile...please just move faster than a sloth. read more

Don't get me wrong, I loved Mariano's ever since they opened in the South Loop. I mean, where else can I shop at a Whole-Foods-like-atmosphere with Trader-Joe-like-prices? But lately, this store has been pissing me off! During my last visit banana, kale, spinach and rosemary were all out of stock. You'd think an apocalpyse was coming or it was the last week before Dominick's closed it's door. Sorry, too soon... I tend to shop at different grocery stores for certain items. Mariano's, in particular, is my go to for fruits, veggies and dairy. The first couple months the produce was fresh but lately there's been a few times where I thought the quality didn't seem that great. I'm thinking it might be due to winter season? Maybe? Hopefully? Update: I went again on 3/1 and everything I needed was in stock and fresh! read more

I love coming here for my specific shopping, like when I need all organic products. They also have a fantastic bakery section and their staff is always very friendly. Its smaller than other grocery stores, which may be why they don't always have everything, but the other perks make it worth going. Heads up, it may be more expensive than your average grocery store, but you're paying for cleanliness and quality. read more

The service at this location gets worse each visit! Endless check-out lines. Horrible personalities running front lines. Worry a little less about saving payroll and beef up cashiers during peek times...and please, run them through some basic Custom Service classes! Might want to consider self check-out...a robot is far less likely to give your paying customers attitude! The Walmart of groceries stores...my official last visit to any Mariano's stores! read more

I went to this Mariano's location because the one I couldn't find parking at the one I frequent (S. Halsted). Either I stopped by on a particularly bad day, or this could be the worst Mariano's store in Chicago. The parking was full and we had to circle around twice before we found a spot. The fresh produce aisle was a total disaster. Almost all the greens looked wilted, and the fruits didn't fare any better. They were stocked out of bananas and it was only 6 pm. Good luck trying to find something you're looking for - either you won't find a staff member to find you out, and even if you do, they're not likely to be very helpful or will completely misdirect you. This happened to me when I was trying to find Vita Coco coconut water, and it was so frustrating that I just ended up picking one from the Thai section. Checking out was equally painful. The cashier had no idea what half of my vegetables were, and even though I offered suggestions, she took a really long time to confirm them because most of the sections I picked up produce from were mislabelled. More than half the roma tomatoes they had on display were squished or semi-rotten, and the grapes I bought after sorting through the pile for a while ended up sprouting fungus after two days in the fridge. If I had an option of eating out or buying grocery from this place, I would eat out. read more

I'm not sure anyone at this store cares to be working there. Dot get we wrong this is a great grocery store with great selections and prices. But seriously no one working there is remotely invested. Go to the deli counter. I do t care when you go or how many people are in line. It will take you what you expect x 3 + 10 minutes. I have a sample size of about 20 on this one. Every. Single. Time. I watched 10 people walk by a trashed out dining selection, look at the piles of shit, and just keep on walking I hope they can invest in a little training or morale booster here. Otherwise they need a purge and reset. read more

I love Mariano's. I don't love THIS Mariano's. Shelves are often bare of the things that bring me to Mariano's in the first place. And don't get me started on the service! Well, okay, a couple of examples: I waited nearly 15 minutes in the produce department where NO ONE was working, although two people from other departments promised to get someone. And there was exactly ONE register open on the Friday afternoon before a holiday weekend. Unfortunately for me, this is the Mariano's closest to my home. But if you love Mariano's, avoid a big letdown by staying away from this store. read more

I will never again set foot in Jewel, Dominicks, Treasure Island, or probably Whole Foods, all of which have annoying flaws that I think Mariano's has every chance of overcoming. My usual go-to for years has been Jewel, and one after another, they're dropping my favorite brands/products; every time they do so it's one less reason to patronize them. You can't buy Tide or Coke at Whole Foods and it's not always clear the upcharge on the produce is worth it; Treasure Island is just expensive and their products are not especially special; Dominick's is also expensive and going the way of the dinosaur anyway. Visited Mariano's for the first time today, and clearly they've done their market research because the S. Clark location was hoppin' busy, I hope this portends long-term success for them, and that the volume of business allows them to keep prices comparatively low. The store is clean, bright, roomy, well-staffed, more or less traditionally laid-out, just about everything I usually buy is available, and definitely pricing is better than at my old regular stores. They are missing a couple of specific products, but carry the brands, so I plan to communicate with headquarters to suggest the particular items I (and surely plenty of other people) like. I wasn't offered a customer loyalty card, maybe next time, but I'd rather everything were just optimally priced in the first place (Jewel recently embraced this principle) so we'll see. Also of note: 1. Unlike Dominicks in particular, prices were clearly marked (I am convinced Dominick's is intentionally careless about posting prices, especially on expensive items) 2. Tons of people, but mostly roomy isles not clogged up by temporary displays 3 No difficulty getting a good spot in a nice ENCLOSED garage; just one person ahead of me in check-out and a competent bagger to keep things moving. 4. Free small tote bag, thank you. But for me to get a lot of use out of it they're going to have to offer larger, sturdier versions. Whole Foods does, and doubtless makes money on the big, durable bags they sell for a dollar or two. 5. Plastic bags are roomy and tough relative to those at Jewel if you need them 6. Gallon of conventional milk just $2.22!! 7.Maybe it's because I'm used to driving on mountain roads, or because I have a smallish car, but I didn't notice anything difficult at all about getting up the ramp to the garage. It's only because other reviewers have commented that it came to my attention at all. Keep it up, Mariano's, I'll be back once a week to see that you do! read more

I hardly shop here anymore. It is nice, but they closed down their wine sipping area. I really enjoyed the little area, would pay a lot for a glass of nice wine and just sit and relax. I would also purchased all of my wines here, but no more. They had the opportunity to make grocery shopping a new experience. I wonder why they stopped? That little wine Kiosk had to have made a lot of money. Oh well. read more

I usually go to the West Loop Mariano's but I was in the S. Loop and popped in for a sandwich. Instead of buying pre-made I decided to pick up roast beef at the deli and some fresh sourdough at the bakery. As always with this company the service was great - fast and friendly. The Black Angus roast beef was SO rare and she sliced it super thin. The sourdough is perfect, tender with a chewy crust. Everyone you see here is so happy - isn't that refreshing? On the way out I stopped to use the Ladies Room. I expected it to be be spotless and it was. The part that surprised me was FRESH FLOWERS... seriously?? Some high end boutiques don't even do this! But Mariano's does. That is why it is one of my happy places. Thanks again Mariano's! read more

Mariano's is my go to for just about any of my grocery needs. They have the best selection and quality for fair prices. Yes you can get cheaper at aldi, or higher quality at Trader Joes, but Mariano's is the best of both worlds and I never have to worry about not finding what I need at the store. Which is a constant issue with Aldi and TJs. Staff is friendly, and they have samples all the time! Can't beat that! Favorite grocery store in the city. Hands down. read more

I love Mariano's! Great food selection, deli, olive bar, hot bar, salad bar, pizza station, gelato station. I like to treat myself and sit down and have some sushi made for me at their sushi station. Other than that, this is the location I visit the most. Keep up the great ideas to keep me coming back! read more

The service was great. There were enormous discounts for member card, which took us only 5 minutes to sign up for. Hot food station was fantastic, yet there were not too many options. Even though, the food was delectable. One of the best service Mariano's offerings that make it outstanding was its grill station, where customers could buy the meat or seafood in the store and have it fully cooked free of extra charge. The grilled steak, which just needed salt and pepper, was incredibly delectable. We just purchased some steak fries, soup, side dishes from the food bar, and red wine to pair with the steak, and have a romantic Friday night at home, or even at the store. Whenever we were craving for steaks, we just headed to Mariano's instead of some fancy and extremely expensive steakhouse to get the heavenly, mouthwatering dish. The bread was fine, but some of the cakes like Tiramisu or cheesecake were not on point whatsoever. Sometimes there was pretty a good discount for Häagen-Dazs or Ben and Jerry ice cream like $3.5 for one whole pint. read more

This store blows my mind every time. You would think overpaying and being charged double (or triple-in case of today) would not happen during EVERY SINGLE SHOPPING TRIP TO THE STORE. I have been paying attention to everything I purchase after I nearly got charged $10 for a cored pineapple because the cashier thought it was considered to be a fruit bar purchase ( not to mention that the price was taped on top of the container). I'm truly under the impression that they count on people not checking and noticing the pricing varies for what's advertised in this store. Done shopping at Marianos for good this time. read more

I like how they stack the produce. It looks really nice. Always plenty of stock whenever I go, and somehow the single Chobani greek yogurts are always $1 whenever I go so I know I need to pick up some French Vanilla and Coffee flavored ones. They have everything I usually get for groceries plus a few fun items here and there I like to try. Also glad they have specials every week (just need to know when to go). I wish they'd carry XXXtra hot cheetos, though, but then again, most grocery stores don't carry them so I'm okay with that. They have a nice parking lot space, too. And a bike rack.
