Every time I visit this adorable storefront bodega, I am left feeling a part of the Totto's Family. The owners and staff are so sweet and kind spirited. Everyone is very helpful, which makes me feel welcome. Walking in, the big floor to ceiling windows allow on ton of natural light into this cute shop. It sits on a corner, which is a bonus. On this visit, I was looking for a few cute items to bring to my sister when I visit her this weekend. Of course, there were a ton of treats, gifts, flowers and more. If you live in the neighborhood, there are grocery items, fresh produce and beautiful bottles of wine. They offer terrific sandwiches and other deli options too. Their Rotisserie Chicken is a must! I always leave feeling like I can't wait to return.

Last week I purchased a salad, a thing of fruit and a carton of eggs. When I got home I found a dead fly in the salad and immediately returned it to Totto's Market and got an apology and a refund. I've been coming here for years and this has never happened before. Pay attention to what you're doing.

Totto's is a great neighborhood market! What I think makes them stand out the most is their customer service and care for the community. One time when I went to the market, I noticed a staff member (the store manager, I believe) guiding a visually impaired woman through the store. He held her arm and pointed out the various products to her, explaining what was good and what he recommended. I was very impressed by this, as I've never seen a store manager go out of their way to help a customer like that! Since the start of the COVID pandemic, they've taken precautions seriously to ensure the store isn't crowded and that customers are safely socially distanced. For example, once a customer was standing too close to me while I waited in line, and the staff member at check-out politely asked her to step back. (They have cute markers on the floor indicating where to stand in line.) Totto's always has a selection of unique and tasty products, some of which are made in-house and others from local shops or imported. Some of my favorites are their homemade broccoli-cheddar soup, Publican sourdough bread, and fresh flowers. They also have a small selection of produce, small deli case, variety of specialty ice creams, beer and wine. Are the products generally more expensive than your typical grocery store chain? Yes, but you're paying for the customer experience, convenience (if you're local), and supporting a local business. It's not a place where I'd recommend doing a big grocery "haul," but it's a nice spot to stop by for specialty products you might not be able to find elsewhere, lunch items or snacks, and to "treat yourself."

I'm not sure how I've not reviewed Totto's before, as it's been a favorite of mine since they opened, and they have been especially great through the whole COVID mess that is 2020. They are truly a neighborhood market... always ready with a friendly smile and a warm "hello" when you enter. I love they they have struck a balance of essentials (milk, etc.) and gourmet items/ rare treats. My absolute favorite thing... and I'm reluctant to let the secret out of the bag, because I don't want it selling out all the time... is the rotisserie chicken salad from the deli counter. Seriously. Try it. You can thank me later.

Had it not been for the jerk place next door I would've never discorde this gem of a store. I've only been to this place twice but I can say that they carry some unique as well as local ingredients. I'm not sure what this particular farm is doing for these cherries but they're extremely juicy & I have to admit they're probably the best cherries ever. Also they carry my favorite brand of "truffle chips" which aren't easy to find & tbh all truffle chips aren't the same caliber. They also have a truffle butter which has the highest content of truffle I've ver encountered. The staff is extremely warm & will accomodate almost any request. Remember they don't take cash & because of covid they limit the amount of patrons in the store.

Stumbled upon this market and was pleasantly surprised, I think it is one of the better markets in the city with a great variety of unique and local products. They had products from slagel farms and a huge variety of publican bread. You could make a fantastic charcuterie board with the meats and cheeses they offer (I went with a red wine salami) along with chocolates and coffee beans I've never seen before. They had great snacks (many Swedish fish varieties from malmo, Sweden) tons of fun spreads like Japanese bbq and cereals. It's expensive but I think they have you covered if you need to grab something last minute with the groceries offered or looking for some sort of gifts (they have candles and cards too). There's also a wine shop and book store nearby. Definitely will be coming back

Sometimes when I'm trying to find "international" ingredients at Mariano's or something it's hit or miss. I found what I needed here and it was a fairly quick trip--I don't think I was in store more than 20 minutes. The store is small, and very very crowded. Aisles are about as wide as a single person facing forward. This isn't a place where you're going to get a shopping cart down an aisle. The prices are good. I got a head of Napa cabbage for 99 cents per pound, and when I go to my neighborhood store it's usually closer to $3-4 or more per pound. Since it was such a steal I added hot and sour soup to my menu for the week. There's a parking lot at this store. It's one way, and you must enter from Archer. DO NOT enter the wrong way or you won't be able to park--the spaces are angled and there's not enough space between the building and the fencing to turn yourself around. There are only about ten parking spaces here so I'm sure it gets filled pretty quick, but when I was here I was the only car parked here. There's street parking which can be pretty chancy, but maybe I'm just speaking from the perspective of someone who was here on a busy Sunday in Chinatown.

A line for grocery store fried chicken? Absolute cinema. People have been recommending I get into fried chicken reviews, and I've resisted as I really don't want to get fat, but this was the perfect storm to start a grocery store fried chicken review journey. I got to the front in the line and felt like a fish out of water. I sheepishly asked the employees, Darius R and Damariea J, what the move was as it was my first time getting fried chicken from here. I thought they'd be annoyed, but they were so helpful and welcoming. "Today is actually wing bucket Friday! A whole bucket is normally $17.99 but today it's $9.99. I can give you some of everything so you can try, but the spicy wings are my favorite." Hell yeah. Darius was the MAN. I took my tissi and wing bucket to the UIC campus for consumption. The tissi was a brick and landed at a 6/10, which currently ranks it 71st out of 94 grocery store birds I've tried, but the fried chicken was INSANE. Darius wasn't lying, the spicy wings were next level. The best grocery store chicken I've ever had. Boomin the Publix fried chicken. Shoutout to the Darius' and Damariea's of the world. Good people. As always, I am looking for new fantastic restaurants, and stores to try out, and share with: family, friends, and on Yelp. As you walk in it seems like a common corner store, groceries in the front, meat towards the rear. When I walked to the back I had a pretty good hunch this would be a great one. The fresh smell, it was very clean, and the amazing eye catching signage. You could feel like you just walked into in a sweet little store in Mexico. When they handed me the food I ordered I knew was on the right track. When I took my first bites I smiled, and knew, I needed to share this place. I was intrigued by the Pozole Verde sign out front. I had never had it before, so I placed my order for that and zero regrets. It comes out in a quart container with a plastic wrapped foam tray with: chopped onions, cilantro, radish, shredded cabbage, and mexican oregano. I added mostly everything but went easy on the oregano. The chunks of chicken were tender and not overcooked. The hominy and vegetables were just right as well. They have this to a science and it has to be near perfect. Now to the tacos: As you often see in neighborhood grocery stores the chorizo was hanging in back above the meat counter, so a house made chorizo taco was a given. The Al Pastor was reccomend by the one of the butchers, and I had a steak taco to round it, and myself, out. All I can say is that like the pozole everything was superb. Even the salsas.. I wish I knew of this place when I worked and lived in the area. I would definitely have known everyone there by name. I still smile thinking of it, and next time I'm in that hood, I will be there. I look forward to trying out a few more menu items, and picking up some of the fresh meat. So maybe don't slap Grandma... but you should at least pick her up and take her out to lunch here. Enjoy! #AlfieEats
