It looked like they had a modern system for checkout. The store looked like they had a wide variety for the relatively smaller size compared with places like Whole Foods and Jewel-Osco. I love this neighborhood market! Everything is very fresh and high quality. Lots of specialty and unique items. Came in for lunch yesterday. Not a bad selection of dry goods. I'd describe the food items as vittles you'd bring to fancy picnic. Grabbed egg& cheese bagel which was satisfactory. However doesn't exceed high bagel bar set by Tillys and Gotham Bagels not far. Got a chicken Caesar salad. I believe the chicken in the salad is rotisserie which is a nice addition for a Caesar salad. Got a coffee with oat milk and some kind of brown butter cookie. Loved the cookie. A bag of BBQ potato chips. Thought it was cool they carry Hot Doug's sausages. And another thing.. I wish it were easier to see what ready made sandwiches they had available that day on the website. Every time I visit this adorable storefront bodega, I am left feeling a part of the Totto's Family. The owners and staff are so sweet and kind spirited. Everyone is very helpful, which makes me feel welcome. Walking in, the big floor to ceiling windows allow on ton of natural light into this cute shop. It sits on a corner, which is a bonus. On this visit, I was looking for a few cute items to bring to my sister when I visit her this weekend. Of course, there were a ton of treats, gifts, flowers and more. If you live in the neighborhood, there are grocery items, fresh produce and beautiful bottles of wine. They offer terrific sandwiches and other deli options too. Their Rotisserie Chicken is a must! What a fun store! I spotted items from all over the world and local as well, and had fun looking for the various delicacies. It is neatly laid out and offers easy access to all the area as it is set up around a central square where they take coffee and some food orders. They have soups and sandwiches as well as deli items. Totto's is a great neighborhood market! What I think makes them stand out the most is their customer service and care for the community. One time when I went to the market, I noticed a staff member (the store manager, I believe) guiding a visually impaired woman through the store. He held her arm and pointed out the various products to her, explaining what was good and what he recommended. I was very impressed by this, as I've never seen a store manager go out of their way to help a customer like that! Since the start of the COVID pandemic, they've taken precautions seriously to ensure the store isn't crowded and that customers are safely socially distanced. For example, once a customer was standing too close to me while I waited in line, and the staff member at check-out politely asked her to step back. (They have cute markers on the floor indicating where to stand in line.) Totto's always has a selection of unique and tasty products, some of which are made in-house and others from local shops or imported. Some of my favorites are their homemade broccoli-cheddar soup, Publican sourdough bread, and fresh flowers. They also have a small selection of produce, small deli case, variety of specialty ice creams, beer and wine. Are the products generally more expensive than your typical grocery store chain? Yes, but you're paying for the customer experience, convenience (if you're local), and supporting a local business. It's not a place where I'd recommend doing a big grocery "haul," but it's a nice spot to stop by for specialty products you might not be able to find elsewhere, lunch items or snacks, and to "treat yourself." read more

I love Totto's for the variety of unique foods they stock and the great quality of everything I've bought here. It is more expensive than a typical convenience store, but the merchandise warrants the price. Sometimes I stop in just to see what goodies I might like to try that I wouldn't find elsewhere. The staff is also very friendly and knowledgeable. I live in a building nearby and this morning I saw a young man in a Totto's apron assisting a blind man who lives in my building to climb the staircase up to the entrance. He saw him safely up to the building and then carefully handed him his Totto's shopping bag. That is a true neighborhood grocer for you, the kind you used to see decades ago. I'm not sure how I've not reviewed Totto's before, as it's been a favorite of mine since they opened, and they have been especially great through the whole COVID mess that is 2020. They are truly a neighborhood market... always ready with a friendly smile and a warm "hello" when you enter. I love they they have struck a balance of essentials (milk, etc.) and gourmet items/ rare treats. My absolute favorite thing... and I'm reluctant to let the secret out of the bag, because I don't want it selling out all the time... is the rotisserie chicken salad from the deli counter. Seriously. Had it not been for the jerk place next door I would've never discorde this gem of a store. I've only been to this place twice but I can say that they carry some unique as well as local ingredients. I'm not sure what this particular farm is doing for these cherries but they're extremely juicy & I have to admit they're probably the best cherries ever. Also they carry my favorite brand of "truffle chips" which aren't easy to find & tbh all truffle chips aren't the same caliber. They also have a truffle butter which has the highest content of truffle I've ver encountered. The staff is extremely warm & will accomodate almost any request. Remember they don't take cash & because of covid they limit the amount of patrons in the store. read more

I've driven past this market numerous time but never a chance to walk-in until this past weekend when I was running low on risotto and needed a bit more. To my surprise it was a nice interior looking grocery. You wait outside during this corvid, and they will open the door to let you in. I walked past the fresh fruits and veggies. past the cold foods and back to the dry goods. I looked and looked, no risotto. I even asked and they don't even supply it. As I walked out I saw the desserts and had to buy one of each in the case. The chocolate croissant and lemon zest puff was delicious. read more

Living in Printers Row, grocery stores can be a little out of reach if you're looking for a few convenient grocery items without walking 15+ minutes. Totto's Market may seem cute, but it is super overpriced (obviously feeding on peoples' need for convenience) and the customer service is gross. Every time I've been, the workers are not friendly and after another seeing another BIPOC customer getting treated rudely today, I sadly have to consider racism is also at play, which is weird given the area. Whatever the issue is, the staff really needs to learn to be nicer. We all have bad days but even then, do better. Also maybe have more options and things that are affordable? Everything is some fancy artisan party favor. And Imagine paying so much for produce that looks like it was put through a washing machine. read more

Nice little addition to the neighborhood as there is a bit of a void for healthier options and a mature pallet in the area. A bit on the pricey side, but some good stuff here especially the chicken rotisserie soup which they make fresh within the store. You can also get a refrigerated, much larger portion to spread out over a few days. Staff is friendly if they arent swamped with curious customers that have never been inside. I did buy the pre-packaged rotisserie chicken salad which was on the wrong side of $5 and it was pretty dry. The cashew butter and fig jam sandwich was blah as well. Stumbled upon this market and was pleasantly surprised, I think it is one of the better markets in the city with a great variety of unique and local products. They had products from slagel farms and a huge variety of publican bread. You could make a fantastic charcuterie board with the meats and cheeses they offer (I went with a red wine salami) along with chocolates and coffee beans I've never seen before. They had great snacks (many Swedish fish varieties from malmo, Sweden) tons of fun spreads like Japanese bbq and cereals. It's expensive but I think they have you covered if you need to grab something last minute with the groceries offered or looking for some sort of gifts (they have candles and cards too). There's also a wine shop and book store nearby. Definitely will be coming back read more

Printers Row/South Loop does not lack for quick grocery stores or places to grab food, that's for sure. This is a smidge different than the rest, albeit, not that different. The prices are expensive, definitely nowhere that most of us can stop regularly outside of a few items here and there. Staff are pleasant and the place is open and not crowded which I also appreciate. Other convenient stores nearby do not have the same variety of vegan items as Totto's does, so that is a welcomed change. With that said, having "everyday" items may be crucial to their success. Sometimes I don't want a $5 bag of pretzels. Get people in the door with affordable items. Oh, please stock Magnum ice cream. That's a speciality item I'll pay a bit more for and difficult to find stocked in the neighborhood. Definitely only go here for the things you can't grab elsewhere nearby. Big fan of this place so far. Small grocer selling staples and high end gourmet products and ingredients. This neighborhood deserved this type of boutique grocery store, and thus far it's delivered. Friendly staff, great selection of deli sandwiches and artisan meats and cheeses. This is a very special market in the Printer's Row neighborhood, on the cozy corner of Dearborn and Polk. What can I say? It just feels good to be in Totto's Market. The layout, decor, and lighting are fantastic. The shelves are stocked in a really inviting fashion. Every detail has been meticulously attended to. The inventory has been chosen with real attention and care. Nothing in Totto's Market has been done by accident. Everything feels personal. Every choice has been considered, every option carefully weighed. The craft beer selection, though small, is very good! If you live in the area like I do, this is the perfect place to pop in for a quick cup of coffee, a last-minute produce or snack item, or one of their delicious rotisserie chickens. The place is very nice and the wall inside is vintage. The atmosphere is chill because of the lightning and the interior of the place. The food stall is super organized and clean. Their staff is so friendly and cares for the community. They have a huge variety of sauce, candy, chocolate, ice cream,bread, beer, wine etc. They also had different kinds of flowers which I'm sure you like. They have a tote bag where you put what you bought which has an imprinted name of the store. I'm so glad that there is some food which I'm looking at.  During Halloween they have a trick or treat for the little neighbor which you take a bag of treats to enjoy.If you want to buy, they are open 8 am to 8pm only daily. They limit the number of customers  because of the pandemic. And you wait outside if there are some customers inside and they will open the door to let you in. read more

Worst experience. Left crying. For all owners if you ask someone if their dog is a service dog and they say yes. It is EXTREMELY uncomfortable, unprofessional and rude to ask any other questions. The law states: You may ask whether the animal is a service animal and inquire as to what tasks the service animal has been trained to perform. You may not, however, require identification documents for the animal or ask about the person's disability. Further, you may not ask the individual to remove the service animal from the premises, unless: (1) the presence of the animal fundamentally alters the goods, services, facilities or accommodations of your business or (2) the animal poses a direct threat to the health or safety of others. We literally just walked in and I was standing at the door asking if they had a specific beverage and he wouldn't even answer my question. I'm never EVER shopping here again after the way I was treated. This is probably the worst review I will ever leave. At La Colombe and other boutique shops I've NEVER been treated so poorly on my morning stroll with my dog. Also the treats they keep outside? One was in my pocket and went through the wash and was still fully intact. I would not feed to your dog. There are other reviews about this manager guy and I'm assuming it's the same person. Fire this dude and if you're the owner then you need to be nicer otherwise your business of overpriced boutique foods will fail. Thanks for a great start to the day. read more

I love Totto's! This wonderful neighborhood market sells a great variety of high quality and reasonably priced items. Their produce is fantastic -- wonderful bell peppers, onions, garlic, fresh herbs, fingerling potatoes, tomatoes -- always fresh and always delicious, and actually somehow cheaper than the Jewel Osco down the road. Their meat selection is somewhat limited, but everything I've bought so far (steaks, ground beef, chicken) has been of excellent quality. My husband raved that the New York strip I got from Totto's was the best he had ever had! Some of their gourmet items are indeed a bit pricey. The Publican Quality Breads, for example, are bananas expensive. But have you had Publican Quality Bread? It is soooo good. I might not always splurge for it, but when I do, I actually feel like it's totally worth the price they charge. That said, most items in the store are priced competitive with or better than supermarket chains. Oh, and did I mention that the people who work there are extraordinarily friendly and helpful? Great market, although a little expensive. But, the quality of the food is outstanding! The issue is, the service. Since I love this place, hopefully they'll read this review and it will help them. This is one of many negative interactions. We have a tiny Yorke dog that we put in a bag when going in shops. What happened: Clerk - do you have a dog in that bag? Me- yes. Clerk - you can't have a dog in here, you have to leave. Me - oh, I thought if it was in a bag it was OK? Clerk - no. (Uncomfortable moment) (I hand him my basket and walk out). (No more talk) What COULD have happened: Clerk - do you have a dog in that bag? Me - yes. Clerk - I am sorry sir, but we don't allow dogs in here. Is there a way you could leave him outside for a minute while you finish shopping? I'm happy to watch him while you finish up as I can see you're almost done.
