Great place for food in DT Chicago. Ordered the Thanksgiving package for 8, which came with three full trays of sides (stuffings, grilled vegetables, mash), rolls, fantastic gray and cranberry sauce. So, why three stars then? Unlike what's advertised on their homepage, the turkey tray actually had half tray of turkey and minus the skin.... Came to Beatrix market with two coworkers for lunch today and honestly it was giving me the old Foodease vibes that used to be in Water Tower prior to Covid as a help yourself salad bar and hot bar. It has an array of salad fixings and some hot bar food that you can dine in or take out. We got at the the tail end of the lunch time shift and left when there where only a few left. I'm hoping to stop and get lunch and sit outside when the weather gets warmer - their patios chairs are waiting to be put out - just need the sun! read more

For a hot-bar style lunch spot, there are really very few hot bar options. Just the side wall had maybe five or six hot plates and they were all empty. Clearly not a focus for the kitchen. And what hot food was there was quite standard and bland. Almost reminded me of what you'd get in a school cafeteria or the like. Conversely the salad options were great. Tons of different types of lettuce or fillings with a wide variety of toppings and dressings. So if you're just looking for a pricey salad, it's a good option. Omg this place just made me re fall in loVe with Chicago all over again. I live for a good salad bar with warm options. The "hot bar" is small here but just enough. They had a turkey bbq meatloaf today, crunchy green beans that were blackened and sprinkle Parmesan on them. Who knew green beans could be this good! I got a tiny bit of the Mac n cheese on top of my salad because it looked so good! Typically don't opt for Mac n cheese but this was sooo good and creamy!! Can't stand dry Mac n cheese. The salad bar options are endless and they have a whole entire sIde dedicated to various grains that are plain- not doused in oils. Hate that! They also have wassaBi peanuts... omg so good! Nice little crunch on your salad. THEN I saw Jalapeño Vinegar as a dressing option. O M G!! Typically don't like annytbing vinegar at all, but I obsess over anything jalapeño. Got it and put it on my salad and it was sooo perfect! Great non creamy low calorie option for your salad. Not too spicy and not too over powering with vinegar. I can't wait to go back for lunch! Decent selection but lately the hot bar is the same for 1-2 weeks. Quality has also gone down. Not a fan of asking for a tip just to check out. Tipping is out of control and restaurants like this where you have to wait in line and serve yourself should not make patrons uncomfortable by putting tip request on every transaction. read more

I'm sure this is a one off...I hope...as I've been to a few of the Beatrix locations and they've been good. The Beatrix Market though...a simple lunch, sandwich for one on a quick passing through, and got a large piece of PLASTIC in the middle of my sandwich. Like a 2 inch stick of mangled plastic through my chicken. After chewing on it a couple of times I spit it all out realizing what it was. That just opened up my imagination on how it got into my chicken breast in the first place and where from... Now I understand mistakes get made and things somehow find themselves into things...though this one is very strange and has me bewildered. I just feel that there needs to be some kind of better handling in situations like this. Yes my uneaten contaminated food was comped, as should be...but following that I wasn't spoken to again. In fact was full on avoided. It felt as though I was being treated as I was the one who was at fault here. After being ignored for my remaining time there I removed myself from the overall uncomfortable situation all together. I hope in the future customers are treated a little better than my experience and looked after a bit. Not left to wonder why and how they were fed gourmet plastic in chicken and then treated as they were the reason it was all bad in the first place. read more

I love Beatrix! All locations. The markets and the actually restaurants are great. The staff is super helpful and the food is always fresh. I highly suggest the avocado toast, cinnamon raspberry cookie and their turmeric latte. Sometimes they run out of items however, that means it fresh and good! I'll take it. read more

There truly is a plethora of options for every taste. I can only speak to my favorites: the roasted Chinese eggplant is tangy, sweet, and truly delightful. The roasted mushroom salad is deeply savory, its flavor pleasantly verging on bitter with a touch of salt. I find the Asian vinaigrette to be the perfect complement to the chopped romaine salad mix, and also recommend the tastefully mild tofu cubes as a textural foil. My salad and drink put together rang up to just under $20. That's pretty reasonable, and I don't mind splurging a little for such outstanding culinary variety. I fell in love with this place. It's an overwhelming amount of delish and healthy food options! I am already addicted and will be back again... RIP my spending account. They have hot food options, pastas, roasted chicken, Mac n cheese, soups, etc. What I'm impressed with is their salad bar options! They have SO many types of grains and an entire hummus bar!!! The pricing was pretty decent (by weight) my salad was $11 but so yummy and fresh! They also give you the option to have plastic Tupperware which was perfect because I didn't finish all of it so I now can bring it home! There's not a ton of seating options but if you get there at 11:30 you'll have no problem grabbing a table. Honestly my favorite part of this place was how clean it was and how it's based on a community involved cleaning method. They have cleaning wipes everywhere and by every table so you can really wipe down a table if you like (I personally do). It sounds silly but they also have a hand washing station and water station which I think is a great idea. read more

one of my favorite places however there is nothing like ordering the chicken sandwich and once received, it barely had slaw and on it and the fries are dead (barely warm). You don't want to start a complaint on the last sunny day in Chicago but the people next to you order the same thing and their sandwich is beautiful and tall with fresh fries.... why? what did I do to you? Beatrix Market is the best place to go when you're hungry and have absolutely no idea what you want to eat...which is always my case. Right up my alley, this Lettuce Entertain You restaurant is a quick, take-it-to-go concept, with self-serve salad bars, hot bar, hummus bar, and soup bar. They also have sandwiches and quick grab healthy snacks near the check out. I have to admit, my first visit was a bit overwhelming in a good way, and funny enough I ended up with a total mish mosh of food...not really sure what I put in my swank to-go plastic container. Everything was deliciously fresh, and they had an insane variety of greens and grains, and the hot bar wasn't dried out or gross. I absolutely loved the olive variety, and the macaroni and cheese was amazing! In line for the greens, an employee let me know that more kale was on its way, and I loved that they were working hard to keep everything fresh and filled up during the lunch hour. The place was packed, and I didn't really know where to go or if there was a line to get in, but it didn't really matter. Everyone was in the same boat (minus 1 star for not being clearer with their signage). Not your typical boring salad bar with melons and cottage cheese. Expect to find hummus, wild rice, and at least five varieties of lettuce. I can't wait to come back! Note: I believe they have tables so you can stay and dine. read more

Somewhat disappointed, I had the italian sausage, peppers & feta burrito and the simple egg & cheese sandwich. As my first time in I thought I should try both. I am glad I got both as the burrito was laughably small, and $7, no less. I'm not sure there was any feta and there was probably one piece of sausage. I didn't think I could love anything more than Beatrix.....and then I discovered the Beatrix Market. It's everything I need in a work lunch spot...fast, healthy & they have a coffee bar!! Sometimes I feel it would be better to go for a burger and fries than be tempted by an amazing salad bar, but this one has so many amazing healthy options that I have no problem making good choices. Favorites in the salad bar include every grain you could imagine, salmon and the roasted sweet potatoes. They also have every non-alcoholic bar imaginable: coffee bar (as I mentioned), a hummus bar, hot food bar and a soup bar (will be hitting that one up this winter). So far I've only been before and after the lunch rush so it's been pretty empty, but I imagine people are lining up around noon for food this tasty. read more

A very welcome addition to the loop lunch scene- Beatrix market is awesome! They have an enormous salad bar with seemingly endless options that's the centerpiece of the space. Then, around the perimeters they have tons of hot bar items, grab and go snacks and sandwiches, a coffee bar, and a gorgeous HUMMUS bar!! I piled up a huge salad the first time I went, but I'll definitely be back for the hot bar items and the soup as it gets chillier! Surprisingly, despite the hype, it wasn't horribly crowded, and I could still navigate my way around fairly well, and was in and out in 10 minutes. I'm a huge fan of this spot. This is the most comprehensive salad bar you could ever have, and I love the unique options they have (i.e Japanese eggplant, roasted shiitake mushrooms). While the hummus bar is lackluster (none of the hummus options were any good), everything else I got was really good. The small hot bar is a nice feature, and I really liked the sweet potato wedges in the hot bar, which I could just pile onto my salad. I'm clearly not the only fan of this spot because it gets super busy at lunch hour. Of course, this stuff can get pricy but it's actually not unreasonable (on par with Whole Foods pricing) given how healthy, delicious and extensive it is. read more

Has the burger which tasted good, had some good homemade giardiniera on the side and it was delicious, wish there was more of it. Fries were standard of a sit down lunch spot. Burger flavor honestly reminded me of a steak which I enjoyed. Service and environment was nice. An above average sit down spot for lunch with traditional American and some cultural influences. Menu had a clear direction. Didn't try the bakery but the cookies looked delicious, might come back to try them. read more

I visited the coffee bar today in honor of Yelp Chicago Cafe Week 2019, and I was a bit disappointed. The menu is nowhere near as large, unique, or creative as the coffee menu at Beatrix River North, and the space is really cramped, making it difficult and awkward to stand around to wait for your drink and grab it. The good news is, the baristas worked very fast and the line wasn't too long (only 3 people which was surprising given the coffee bar is in a high rise office building and I went at 9am), so I was only there a few minutes. But my nonfat latte was not the best. I'll definitely be back for the salad bar, which is the best salad bar in Chicago in my opinion (5+ stars). But the coffee bar at this Beatrix location gets three stars. I'll stick to Starbucks or make the trek to Beatrix River North. read more

Greta place for a quick lunch! The staff is always walking around cleaning up and swapping out the almost empty food trays which is refreshing to see! They are very much on top of the refills. Lots of gluten free options and it's nice how they label everything. Organic local food options and great selections daily! Only complaint is at lunch the place is so packed, there's not really a good flow of traffic due to the layout and everyone is running into one another and cutting someone off. The only reason I give this place 3 stars is because the coffee was actually really good. The layout and promptness of this place is rather horrendous. My roommate and I stopped by the restaurant on our walk to work and it wasn't very busy, but still took us about 20-25 minutes to just grab a cup of coffee. While the idea of a coffee bar inside of a buffet-style restaurant sounds really interesting, in practice the layout makes it very difficult to understand exactly where you need to go to order and pay. The buffet lines run into the line for the coffee bar which runs into the line for drip coffee. It seems like they could just try to move a few things around to make the customer experience a little bit more seamless. Although, like I said, the coffee was pretty good so it's a good place to go for coffee if you're already eating there. Other than that, I probably would not go back. read more

Walking back to my office having gotten my food, but not yet eaten it, I was hovering somewhere around 3 stars for the experience. After eating, I'm tempted to give it 5 stars, but am settling at 4 because there really are a few things that they could/should improve. Seriously, though, the most satisfying lunchtime salad I've ever had at work for an entirely reasonable price. The other reviews have all laid out the situation pretty well. It's a pay by weight salad/hot bar situation with soups and hummus as well. I skipped the hot bar (I find that those types of things generally look better than they taste, though there are always exceptions and maybe I'll have to find out once the weather turns!) and stuck to the salad. I think that one reason I was able to make this work so well for me is that I got a lot of food without adding a lot of weight by limiting the lettuce. I mean let's be realistic - the lettuce is the worst/most boring part of any salad. By only having a little bit of lettuce and mostly loading up on other, more flavorful veggies I got a lot more bang for my buck. I topped my veggies with a scoop of tuna salad, which was especially tasty. My only food-related complaint is that they could offer a better selection of salad dressing. It was kind of boring. As an experience, I just feel like Beatrix could have (originally) been set up/configured a little bit better. THere isn't really enough space between the two salad bars/the hot bar and so you're constantly being pushed into other people/hit with people's bags. A few items on the salad bar were out, but the employees couldn't get close enough to know that or replace them. That was a bit frustrating. Overall though, I had a great salad and next time I'll just be careful to go well in advance of the lunch rush. Because there will definitely be a next time! read more

What a great idea. Beatrix itself is awesome, so having a market version is brilliant. I expected the place to be bigger, but they aren't short of options and they even have some tables. It was busy Friday around noon, but I was still able to navigate around just fine. I wasn't too impressed with the options for the hot bar (why need two similar chicken dishes and some basic steamed broccoli?) but what I did get, it was tasty. Their salad bar though seemed to definitely be where it's at with a wide variety. The only unpleasant thing was the falafel - super bland and dry. I also had a pit in one of my olives. Overall, a bit pricy but food is quality and I def went overboard being my first time here, AND you can still rack up LEYE rewards here! My Friday lunch included Mediterranean meatballs, roasted sweet potato, sweet chili tilapia, olive mix, falafel, broccolini, and eggplant. Definitely looking forward to going back and concocting an excellent salad or seeing what's new in the hot bar. I love Beatrix because they have the right balance of healthy but not too healthy. The Beatrix Market is an awesome grab and go concept for those who work in the area. They offer so many healthy options that are perfect for eating outside or taking back to the office. My first experience here was a bit overwhelming because I had no idea what was going on. I blame that on not doing my Yelp research beforehand like usual ;) It was the noon lunch hour and this place was packed. I would definitely suggest going before 12 or maybe after 1:00 for a more relaxed experience. Otherwise the "lines" are slow moving and salad bar options will probably need to be replenished. Like I said, Beatrix Market has so much to offer - a hot bar, salad bar, hummus bar, coffee bar (all the bars really), soup, fruit, chips, and other pre-packages take-back-to-your-desk items. Everything is so fresh and delicious. I wasn't feeling too confident in my salad concoction because I felt like I was just throwing things together, but it was a delicious lunch! Im a huge fan of the salad bar for lunch- it is absolutely delicious. Its all by weight so it can be adjusted to how hungry you are. They every variety of greens, fresh veggies, lentils, and they even have a variety of hummus. They have fresh and hot breakfast and lunch items like breakfast wraps and sandwiches to go and always have a good veggie options. The hot items for lunch include cheesy Mac and cheese, stuffed shells, and vegetable dishes. The only disappointment is that I have gone twice and asked for nitro cold-brew and have received just regular cold brew from the cafe area in the back. read more
