GENERAL/PARKING A solid location! It's very walkable to get to, and they still have a parking lot beside it. I visited from out of town, so only stopped by to get a liter of water. All of the Trader Joe's across the U.S. are very much the same. They have all of the same food stuffs, supply of wines, beers, and other alcohol-based drinks, plus their great array of flowers. Going into one is very much the same as going into another, no matter where you find yourself. In terms of this particular business, you will find a fairly large location with all of the TJ items well situated and easy to find. The staff here all seem to be nice and, like at all TJ locations, they are happy to help you out if you need any help. Though this is a popular location, where this business is situated, and the people that surround it, make it just a bit sketchy. For example, it is quite common to be accosted by a un-housed individual in the parking lot expecting you to give them money. This is also true with the area directly surrounding this business. Though we all feel for people suffering these circumstance, their continued presence does make shopping at this store feel a bit unsafe. This is just something to keep in mind and prepare yourself for, and not a criticism. Overall, if your looking for what Trader Joe's has to offer, this is a place to get it. read more

Overall, this TJ's is well-appointed with great florals and plants, fresh produce, and the expected inventory, in a clean, well-managed space. I love that they seem to always have enough lanes open so wait times are not too long. My sole gripe is that they are not always proactive in getting people (non-employees) trying to sell gift cards in the store. It's clearly a scam, and these people should be asked to leave. My friend and I touched down in Chicago after an 8-hour flight, dropped our bags at our Airbnb, and hit the streets hungry and tired. In Hawaii, Trader Joe's items are synonymous to catching a shiny Pokemon (no TJ's on the island, sadly). Fun fact: Hawaii folks love snagging TJ's goodies as souvenirs, and you'll basically be royalty if you offer this to the locals. For me, it was a nostalgic hug - TJ's was my lifeline back when I lived in LA. Location: On the corner of S Wabash Ave and E Roosevelt Rd. Getting there: We circled the sidewalk like lost tourists, but the entrance is right in front of the parking lot. Driving there? Easy peasy. Taking the metro? Your guess is as good as mine. Atmosphere: Packed - we tuned in during prime TJ's rush hour, the weekday evening edition. Merch: So much yum, I'd be a full-time food influencer if I could sample it all (seasonal treats included). Scooped up a stash of nonperishables to gift back home. Service: Never a bad TJ's moment - cashiers are always smooth operators. Prices: Friendly to your wallet, quality to your taste buds. (No clue how much I spent...) Faves: Joe-Joe's, sliced French brioche, Everything But The Bagel (insert item here), frozen Indian TV dinners, chicken sausage breakfast burritoes, maple leaf cookies, cilantro salad dressing, and the vegan cashew spinach ravioli. This is a popular destination for locals, folks close to the subway (since its near a stop) and folks in nearby hotels wanting foods that are more substantial and less expensive. It's very well organized inside, with very wide aisles. Plus it has a reasonably sized parking lot (the joke in my part of the country is that TJ's parking lots are designed by sadists). I didn't see as many checkouts as I expected, and I wonder if checking out here is ever a bottleneck - it certainly was not yesterday. While there are many smaller grocery stores and markets in the area, this is likely your best bet for more of a one-stop experience. read more

My castle for a TJ's! The closest one to me back in Michigan is 2 1/2 hours away (TJ's- come to TC- you have many devotees here). So, on my visit to lovely, hot Chicago- I made sure to stop in. I bought dried mangos, a Veggie wrap, and hold the cone waffle cone tips w/ dark chocolate. So good. I wanted more but, needed to exercise restraint. Gracias! read more

Another Trader Joe's. Except this one has parking and a man outside that ask for donations. Every time I walk by there's a man who says he's homeless, asking for donations. Every time I enter, he says donate on the way out and every time I exit he asks if I would like to donate. But again. I am sad to suggest that people limit their time at this Trader Joe's and wear a good N95/KN94 when they visit. I work on respiratory virus transmission and immunity for my day job as a scientist. For fun (really) I carry around a high-quality CO2 meter to better understand variability in transmission potential in public spaces. On my last half dozen visits in November and December, I've noticed the CO2 readings in this store are much higher than any other grocery store or drugstore I've visited. They're actually higher than any other public space I've been in lately, though I've not gone to bars, non-university classrooms, salons, etc. with this device yet, and I'm sure there's more interesting stuff out there. CO2 concentrations at this Trader Joe's are generally 1100-1800 ppm, and I've not even gone at the busiest times. I've spoken to two TJ's managers about this and have not seen any change to indicate they care in the weeks since. Why does high CO2 matter? (1) CO2 concentrations this high are bad in and of themselves. I worry for the store employees. There are amply demonstrated impacts on cognition and fatigue with prolonged exposures to CO2 over 1000 ppm. Many workplaces aim and stay well below this. (2) Such high CO2 indicates a disproportionate risk of transmitting respiratory pathogens in the store, assuming there is no germicidal UV disinfection or separate air filtration going on, which I'm fairly confident there isn't. CO2 is a measure of the amount of air that is rebreathed. Around 1800 ppm, approximately 3.5% of each breath is air (including microbes and other goodies) that was exhaled by someone else (compared to ~1% at 800 ppm). This is the case even if it doesn't seem like there are many people in the store, since our air and aerosols linger. This is a good place to go to sample the microbial richness of the South Loop community! I'm posting here because the managers I spoke to, while polite, didn't seem to take in what I tried to tell them (one on the phone and one in person). When I last visited, I noticed the fans below the ducts weren't spinning anywhere in the store, and I couldn't detect any airflow from mechanical ventilation. One of the managers told me they had just had their ducts cleaned, and I tried ineffectively to explain that that was irrelevant. read more

This is my favorite grocery store. Things are priced just right. I prefer getting fresh cut flowers from here because of the price and the quality. The produce is of great quality as well. Do try their salad kits which are delicious. They also have ready to eat meal kits. Some of the favorite things to pick up from this grocery store are juices, coconut water, fresh produce, ready to eat salad kits, frozen Indian food, canned fizzy juices, potted plants. Also they have an amazing customer service, the staff is great, super nice and helpful. Have had the same experience in every Trader Joe's store I have been to. This is a small store with limited selections compared to the ones I frequent in San Diego & MSP. They do have a decent selection of alcohol but many if the wines they carry contain sulfites which my friend is allergic to. Love the products they carry but I cannot find everything I need at TJ's...I'll pay more if I can buy everything I need at one stop but I've never been able to do that here. read more

I have really high expectations of my local grocery store. I have many options to choose from all within 15 minutes from my home. I can go to Jewels, Mariano's, and ALDIs. I choose Trader Joe's every time and here is why: 1. The produce is freshest when in season. It's never hit or miss (which isn't the case for the aforementioned). The prices are very straight forward with the price per individual item listed. 2. The customer service has always been exceptional. When I randomly shop while hungry (worlds worst habit) I throw all sorts of items in my cart. I remember returning a bag of like 10 items with no receipt without any issue. I was honestly shocked and grateful to get my money back. Loyal customer for life!! 3. I can buy something. Try it. Hate it. And return it. No questions asked. 4. FREE PARKING which is an asset in Chicago. 5. CLEAN BATHROOMS which came in super handy when I was pregnant cause I always had to pee. I've enjoyed exploring new foods and new recipes. I see why property values increase on average 15% when they open in a community. I hope they open one on the Roseland/Pullman area. Huge potential on the far Southside of Chicago!! read more

Every trader joes I go to have the worse parking lot set up and the staff is super friendly. Just like any other Trader Joe's, this one is as lively and filled with everything you need. From the essential groceries to seasonal unique flavors, TJ's got it all. Sometimes I crave going into TJ's just for kicks because it's down the street and I always find more than I need so I guess it's somewhat a dangerous but fun place to do groceries. Love their snacks, love their dairy, love their meats, love their frozen foods, love their cheap wines to have "personal bottle nights". I even drop by sometimes to get their Cold Pressed Greens when I feel like I'm still death from the previous night! Even though this Trader Joe's DO run out of things (like once, they were missing onions???), it's not their fault it gets so crowded and popular being in a busy part of downtown! It is somewhat of a hidden gem because as obvious as it is that there is a Trader Joe's in this corner with the windows saying it's TJ's, the entrance is around the corner inside the parking lot. Just GRATEFUL there's a Trader Joe's around this area because I don't know what I would do without all their TJ classics (actually, I do, I'd make my friends from the west coast ship me the goods). read more

Outside Trader Joe's it is filthy & garbage everywhere along fence in alley and as you enter parking lot Main Street. Also garbage all around corner on Roosevelt. Wabash awful! Garbage stuck by bushes and on street. Every day. There are daily 2-3 pan handlers bothering patrons. This is not daily garbage. It's them not picking up. Inside store great. Outside no bueno. Their premises maintenance is poor. Impacts image to the company. Need janitor. They need to do better. Maybe employ homeless to pick up garbage then pay them. read more
