I love the chicken salad made by Pete's. The store is always clean. However, when I asked for a spoon today, the cashier complained they were only given with the hot food. The place is huge but the aisles are so nero that barely two carts can squeeze right through, the prices of items are fair, not too expensive but not exactly cheap neither, employees are nice and Quick with the check out line, some people are alright while others are just slobs while they are there, (so it's 50/50 when it comes to what kind of people are being there) but don't ask the catering to write anything on a birthday cake because they WILL mess up when it even comes to the simplest of names...... Okay, some background. In 2002 I was living in the neighborhood, I used to shop at the 57th & Kedzie store regularly. The meat at that store was USDA grade STANDARD + COMMERCIAL - they had a small sign behind the counter that affirmed this, yet it was not on the package. I complained, the manager basically told me tough shit. A produce guy was pushing an overloaded cart of full boxes of tomatoes -- they FELL ON ME AND THEY WERE MORE CONCERNED WITH THE TOMATOES THAN THEY WERE WITH ME!! Not even a "sorry: When the Jewel at 51st closed, then the Dominics at 47th closed, the owners of Pete's bought both locations, and kept them closed for 2 years, stifling any chance for competition, and contributing to neighborhood blight. I did some investigation, and found that they had contributed tens of thousands of dollars to Ald. Burkes campaign chest. So, shop there if you like - I won't. read more

This was my second daily run at Pete's this week. You see, me and Pete (we are on a 1st name basis) go way back; back to when this used to be a Dominicks and Pete's hostel take over began. We used to pick fruit and slaughter meat together. But that's all over now, he doesn't remember me anymore. I'm just some asian girl who will forever shop at his market and cry tears of joy for my fresh fruit, veggie's and meat galore. Oh Pete, where are thou? I come to Pete's at least twice a week. To pick up some quick meat, vegetables or fruit on my way home or when just need something. Everything is extremely fresh and clean. Ten's and thousands of fresh meat and all different cuts. I went to Jewel once in the suburbs and all they had was 3 pieces of steak. How disappointing! At Pete's, the whole back of the store is devoted to raw meat. Ahhh, meat...... The place is spacious and the majority population is hispanic. I'm the only asian there and I feel I practically live there. I wish I could say I was as impressed as other Yelpers but... I was going to pay my water bill when I noticed Pete's was right next door. Since I think that Dominick's and (especially) Jewel suck, I figured I would check it out. Now this is not the fault of the establishment but the patrons were super rude. Lots of cutting my basket off and standing in front of me as if I weren't there. Just all around rudeness. What I did like was the large variety of fresh produce (not like the half dead produce at Jewel). There was also a large variety of Meat and Deli Products. I also enjoyed being able to get ethnic food like fresh, homemade guacamole (which I ate in it's entirety when I got home!). The prices were also pretty decent. I think what I hated the most was that I felt it was really hard to navigate. The aisles are super skinny making it difficult to not be in anyone's way and also to drive your little cart around corners. Also the aisles are like a claustrophobic's nightmare! Boxes, upon boxes! Cans upon cans! Piled high and tight. When you peek down the aisle to see what's on it, all you see is a blur. You can't make out anything. It was just too much for me. So, although, through no fault of Pete's, this slight claustrophobic, rude people hating chick will not be returning. read more

Talk about a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel! Going to Jewel (whose produce smells funny and is not a good value) and/or Dominicks for produce are NOT fun. I'm just never happy with what I walk away with. Even Cermak Produce has a smaller selection than Pete's. I always feel taken away someplace else when I walk into Pete's. I get ideas for what to make for dinner just by standing in the store. Picking up meats and other staple items is easy, as they have a comparable selection of domestic items as Jewel or Dominicks (at least on what I'm looking for). I'm a snobby person and I admit it... I had a horrible experience at this place in May. I came in to grab a cake for my dad's birthday. Since he's always got a sweet tooth, we grabbed a cake from the shelf. There's no price label on the cake. There's also labels on the shelf AND THEY WERE OUTDATED! The cake was on the rack that was labeled to be $14.99 for 10 inches. I guess not everyone buys cakes while looking at the prices? We grabbed that one and when it rung up, the price was off. Fine. I needed the cake. I just paid. Then I went online to contact them and they apologized for the labels and the glory. They gave me a coupon for my next visit. Oh, before I even made it to the cake/ pastries section I was in the canned food aisle to look at spices. The guy who works there glared at me because my cart was in the way while I looked at the spices. He pushed it away and it nearly knocked me over. I prayed that I would knock some stuff down because he pushed my cart at me without saying excuse me or anything.... read more

Fresh Farm in suburbs used to be my favorite grocery store before. Then I discovered Pete's. It was much closer to me. I quickly became a fan of Pete'e and I was not alone. They have expanded since and I started shopping at the one on Madison. I dont like when my bananas taste like cooked potatos :)) thus I love their clearance racks with "about to spoil" bananas, pears, etc. Watch your cashiers!!! They are daydreaming a lot ;)) read more

Pete's Fresh Market in Brighton Park is my primary grocery store. I'm in love with their wide variety of fresh vegetable selections. Granted, they do not offer every product available but their offerings are far from slim. On my last visit, they offered at least six different types of peaches, hot peppers, etc., and those are items that I just noticed while shopping. Staff make every effort to make everything look clean and presentable. I always see one staffer vacuuming, sweeping or straightening things like a bandit. I'm not quite sure how they do it, but the prices are often far more reasonable than any of the local chain grocery stores, especially the items listed in their weekly circular. I never spend more than $30 for a week's worth of groceries for myself unless I'm shopping for a large dinner party. Pete's also has fabulous deli, meat and seafood counters and even a little counter to buy fresh cut elotes topped with mayo, butter, parmesan cheese and cayenne pepper. Yum-o! read more

This has to be one of the best grocery stores in the city. The store is well stocked, very clean, and the fixtures are beautiful. The produce section is cavernous. People I've brought there are in disbelief the first time they see it! The variety is fantastic, and the prices are really low. It's all good stuff ---not the waxy, tasteless stuff that you find in the major chains. The deli department is less expensive that the major chains, too. The meat department is also really great. The meat quality is excellent, and again, the prices can't be beat. The frozen/prepared section isn't that big, but since I cook from scratch, it doesn't matter that much to me. Pete's other store on Pulaski and 44th seems to have a bigger frozen section. I am usually stunned by how little I pay for my groceries at Pete's. I usually do my regular shopping here. The sign welcoming you to Pete's might make you fear you will find a matching profile of Pete on the sex offenders list. Despite the lack of a man with his looks showing up on Dateline, he surely DOES know his Cucumbers. Petes rocks. I have never seen more affordable and beautiful produce. The produce lasts FOREVER and costs less than any other place Ive shopped. Their Proteins, if you can stomach being around some more "ethinic" cuts, are super fresh and affordable as well. The deli carries every variety of cold cuts I have ever imagined, and as an added bonus all varities of specialty hispanic cheeses sliced by the pound! We highly recommend the fresh salsas and guacamole as well. There are only 2 drawbacks to Petes: one: the center of the store is pretty lame. most of the overpricing happens here, and the variety in brands is lacking two: do not walk in here and not expect to want to make salsa. you will buy all the ingredients and eat the homemade salsa all day. My wife coaxed me into accompanying her for a chiropractic massage across the street from Pete's. We decided to check out Pete's for our weekly groceries in our blissful state. We were pleasantly surprised by this store on Kedzie. Our first reaction was that of disbelief at the reverse sticker shock we experienced. We usually do all our groceries in the E. Lakeview area because of the convenience. The produce, meat and seafood prices were about 20-30% lower in general. We saved an additional 7% on taxes. (This area has the West Chicago tax rate, 2.5% versus the city's 9.5$ rate). The store was well organized and had a fairly wide selection of items. Had the cashier's been a little more friendly and if they offered paper bag option, Pete's would've received an extra star from me. read more

Pete's is my family's go to market. We come here once a week. First of, Pete's always have fresh fruits and meats. Secondly, the store is always clean, well stocked, and very organize. Pete's Market has been in our lives for many years, they have a good variety of grocieries, reasonable prices, and they sincerely care about their customers. Every since the pandemic started in 2020, Pete's was quick to establish safety measure for their customers and cashiers. Pete's has always made sure that exiting local laws are appropriately required to keep everybody safe inside. It has always been obvioius to me that Pete's Market cares about their community. we like to shop around at several locations in the city when buying our weekly food supplies. Pete's is good for a couple of things. First off, they have awesome produce department. Fresh and cheap and plenty of it. (A+) Secondly, their deli counter is pretty good not great but pretty good. Like most places the good stuff cost more but still way cheaper the Jewel or Domanick's. (B) Last but not least their bakery department is the bomb....The cakes are cheap, cheap, cheap and unlike most mexican bakeries they taste fresh, sweet, moist and good. The bread is so fresh that it steams up the box its waiting for you in. The pastries are yum o'rama. (A+) So if your shopping in the "hood" this place is Clean, and Safe. However heavy on the Mexican =-( but good on the price =-) read more

I have tolerated this store way to long if it's not my groceries being smashed while thrown in the bag from my cashier who acts as if my business is not needed or the utter unprofessionalism that exudes from some of the staff never dose one feel as if your money is valued here. There is either a lack of training or no following up or maintaing of it. Today's exploit in to the world of non customer service angered me so much that I will never return and advise all who ask about this store not to waste there time at this location. read more

The prices on some of the other stuff can be high but the produce is why i come here. Most of the employees are nice, helpful, and sometimes even extremely considerate. It isn't ever crowded either. We purchased a birthday cake for my sister today. It was "tres leches" flavored but as we took a bite, it tasted like lemon/ lime. I looked at the piece on my fork and noticed there was greenish clumps on it. (Pictured posted as well) The only other time I have seen something similar is when bread gets moldy. I showed my mom and that's when it all clicked. The milk in the cake was expired giving it a lemony flavor and the cake was getting moldy!! We would have returned it tomorrow but, as usual, my dad crumpled the receipt and threw it out right after leaving the store. This is grocery store heaven if you like veggies, fruit and lunch meat. All three are ridiculously cheap and they have a great selection as well. They have a great selection of nuts, dried fruit and such - even cranberries. They also have portobello mushrooms for cheaper than Costco. For the high prices on everything Not so fresh at all as their name says petes "fresh" market , let me say when it comes to food in general, having to go back to return food with flies (pre wrapped chicken breast) and shredded cheese (la chona )with mold is not pleasant at all ,on top of that ,the bad attitude of employees makes it very unpleasant to shop there that place is in need of true management to provide better customer service and satisfaction on food. read more

I have gone to many of the different locations and some have higher quality fresh fruits and veggies at same price as they all do. This location has one of the lowest quality grade in some fresh fruits and veggies. Yes they have lots of verieties in produce but this location has ugly past due fruit and veggies. The 95th location in Oak Lawn has the best quality everything. Is it because the they tend to have better stuff for the richer?? This location has beat up fresh fruit. Look at the pears, apples, peaches, tomatoes and avocados for starters. You will see what I mean. Then go to the Oak Lawn one and compare. Just something to think about. read more

The meat and produce selections here put the typical Jewel or Dominicks to shame in terms of variety, freshness, volume, and price, with an emphasis on Mexican items. The store is as super-busy as you'd expect any popular, high-volume grocer to be, but the checkouts seem to move efficiently despite the long lines. Pete's is a little bit too far outside my "home territory" for me to come here regularly, but it's highly recommended if you live or shop in or near the area. read more
