Recently moved to the area and found this gem across the street from my apartment. I had the opportunity to go in there this morning and OMG! The breakfast sandwich was fresh and delicious. I ordered the Turkey sausage, egg and cheese burrito and a bagel with cream cheese. The staff were very kind and friendly. Coffee was self prep so you make it to your liking. The store was clean, well-stocked and offered a variety of different items. I will surely be visiting this store and highly recommend. read more

This review is a buyer beware announcement, and not just because they 'price gouge' on their bourbon but also how they are arrogant about it. Icing on the cake is that in addition, they also don't honor their own displayed prices. I am a scotch & bourbon drinker and realize that a lot of smaller liquor stores sell their allocated bourbon with secondary mark ups so I wasn't surprised that they are selling a $120 bottle for $1500 and $100 one for $700. Not sure if it's any consolation, but they won't charge taxes if you pay cash! Really, you know that's breaking the law, right? On a recent visit I was about to buy a non allocated bottle of scotch whisky that had a display price of $299. However upon scanning the barcode, it rang up as $389. The display price tag was for the same bottle yet they refused to honor it and wanted the higher $389. Clearly at some point they decided to charge more for it but didn't update the price tag. If you have a price tag, honor it!! And even at $299 this was a mark up, so no they weren't losing any money. I certainly wasn't entertaining their crap and walked away. All I can say is buyer beware! read more

I would have to argue that this is one of the best convenience stores in Chicago. The staff are always friendly, they have everything and anything you'd need. They have a fresh deli with an amazing Boar's Head dandwhiches and BYO wraps (I've never tried their breakfast memu but I'm sure that's just as delicious). It's a perfect place to shop for a wine and charcuterie night because they have A TON of different cheeses to select from. They also have a wine club card where you get a free bottle of choice after buying 10 (and they have an awesome wine selection). - If you're local to the neighborhood I'm sure you've been here and feel the same! read more

Hey SLoop Market, thanks for being there when I'm in a pinch for necessities or just a quick breakfast sandwich. It's clean and convenient with quality products (Boar's Head to Haagen Dazs). I go here on weekends for a big breakfast sandwich. Prices range from 3.00-4.99, and they don't skimp on the ingredients (choice of 2 eggs, meat, cheese, bread). You can get burritos, bagels, croissants; multiple tasting adventures for the whole family. Alcohol selection is robust with variety of wines, beers, and even small party size Tito's Vodka. Great place for late night cravings like all sorts of chips or ice creams (no Jeni's but that's okay). Oh, and I'm grateful they had eye drops Clear&Clear for my self-diagnosed corneal abrasion. Caveat: you'll need to spend at least $5 to use your credit card. Prices are a tad more expensive than standard grocery store prices, but that's a good trade-off for convenience sometimes. read more

We came here because they carried a beer here that my boyfriend wanted to try. Unfortunately when we purchased the beer, it was expired by a month. Thankfully when we returned the beer they gave us some new unexpired bottles. The store is small but they crammed a lot of things you might need inside. Its a good one stop shop. They make sandwiches to order and have baked goods and coffee. They also have cold food already prepared to take away if you need something in a hurry. It seems they have good quality food (based upon the brand name of the items) that are very healthy options. Most convenience stores sell a lot of crap but this place is different. We came in the evening and oddly there was not a lot of parking on the street. read more

Chicago isn't a place that's known for a decent lunch from a non fast food establishment for under $10. There's always exceptions & coming from someone who refuses to east fast food this particular sandwich was decent. From what I could tell it was made to order & there were plenty of ways to customize the food. There were a few other options as well but this sufficed seeing as how I needed a simple & quick option for a late lunch. I also noticed things I may return for like maybe a pound of the plentiful lunch meat options such as Cajun or Buffalo turkey. The prices for the convenience store are a little steep however that's an oxymoron. It is in fact a convenience store but the proximity of this location doesn't provide many options for food options. The wine choices were surprisingly diverse with options nice enough for giving as a gift. The staff tends to be ok. A bit no nonsense but not rude. Head to the back meat counter and you will find Boars Head meats and a range of cheeses and a friendly person to make you your favorite sandwich. Need a coffee pick me up?- it's right by the door. Their beer selection is also quite good and it rotates so you can always find something interesting to try. Sure- it's more expensive than the big grocery chains. I went here to get some oatmeal and chocolate chips for my office desk. I paid 14.00 for a tiny container of quaker oatmeal and some nestle chocolate chips. Kind of a ripoff. There's a 5.00$ minimum so you can't just get something cheap. Also if you return things that you purchased by credit card they will refund you in cash/coins. Fun little market with crowded, tiny aisles and a wide variety of uniques foods. In the back is a deli with meats, sandwiches, and a big espresso machine. I ordered a Reuben, which was made immediately on a hot press. High quality meat and all the other necessary ingredients of the sandwich. Really good! Service was super and friendly. Love this place! We've been going here for years. Now that there is also one on Cermak/Michigan we go to both (we live in between both locations)! All the people that work there are super nice. As for people commenting on it being over priced, what do you expect? It's a small convenience store that fills a void where larger grocery stores don't. When it's freezing and you don't want to walk/bus/lyft to Mariano's or Jewel, this fits the bill! We don't get a ton of food there, but frequently get drinks and snacks. They have a punch card for wine which is a lovely touch. I'll always support local business and am so glad we have these in the South Loop. read more

South Loop Market is a godsend to South Loop residents. They have canned, boxed, and frozen food, paper goods, and booze in addition to a small selection of fresh fruits and veggies (apples, pineapples, garlic, onions, bananas, etc.). Cold drinks, including Mexican Coke in glass bottles (real sugar!), and made-to-order sandwiches are great for those that work in the area. I was surprised by the number of local/artisan items I found. They also carry a wide variety of Boar's Head meats and cheeses (much better quality than the stuff at the Jewel). It looks like you're using it for storage, bad idea, the whole appeal is that you actually look like a cafe market and not a stock room, please change that, where are you supposed to eat your Boar Heads sandwich? The small place down the street promised they were going to get fresh produce, they call themselves Green Leaf or something like that but walked passed there the other day and nothing has changed. They're very friendly here. We actually come here instead of the one right across the street from us. Seems cheaper and there's more variety of everything. The deli is a great alternative to Jewel and Dominick's. I've had 2 sandwiches from here, the Italian and the Reuben, and both were pretty tasty. I truly appreciate the convenience and availability of this South Loop mini-market! Open late, easily assessable, well lit, and always well-stocked with a wide variety of fresh & deli meats, fresh vegetables, frozen goods, can goods and wines. Reasonable prices and a helpful staff. (The few times I've asked for a product they didn't already have in stock, they got it for me!) The folks running this store care enough to always be present during operating hours (i.e., they aren't absentee owners), they care enough to listen to their customers' needs, and they stock their store according to what is needed - and not just what is most profitable! They are an important part of the South Loop community - and they are to be commended for investing in the future of this neighborhood! read more

I'm a little hesitant giving away my secret spot, but these guys have most of everything you could need on short notice without running to the grocery store. They have the basics, but also tons of the extras including a vast wine and beer selection which is great if you've got an after-work hankering and don't want to overspend at a bar. The sandwiches are good, freshly made with Boar's Head Meats and Cheeses and they've got coffee by Intelligentsia brewed and for sale. There is some fresh produce and herbs, dairy and eggs, chips, soda, cereal, etc. They do good business and the guys who own and operate the place a great, I give them kudos for reading the neighborhood and providing what the customers want. The prices are moderate, you pay for the quality of what you buy, but the few extra pennies are worth not having to drive and find parking for soda or cilantro. Highly recommended! read more

A blessing to this neighborhood! This convenience store truly have a little bit of everything -- and all of their selections are top-quality. They do not skimp on selection or freshness. I love coming here for a sandwich at breakfast or lunchtime instead of going to Potbelly's or Jimmy John's. They will make your sub by-order, using Boar's Head meats and cheeses. Such a treat! They also have a great selection of Labriola baked goods that are to die for. Flirty Cupcakes has some product in there as well. The only downside is that they do make their living by charging a premium. So come prepared for $7 cereal boxes and things like that. Also, no credit cards for purchases under $5. read more

Jesus Christ that Jewel is terrible. They have a pretty nice grocery section for your basic fruits and vegetables. Excellent selection of little items you like but might forget about most times like Matt's Cookies and Diet Green River. Fun tip for parents- they do carry baby water and formula as well as baby jar food in case you are really in a bind. Also the deli section is pretty good too. The guys at the counter are always nice and polite which is a plus. Why 4 stars and not five, B.L.? I dunno, it's nice but nothing special, I guess? The South Loop Market is a life saver! The first thing you'll notice is that's its extremely clean which is a very big deal to me as far as places go where I'm going to buy food. The 2nd thing you'll notice very quickly is that the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. They go out of their way to get to know their customers...to the point that you feel it's YOUR neighborhood store. I love the fact that they carry some of the high end brands. Personally I hate when I have to run to a bodega or convenience store and have to purchase off brand yogurt, toilet paper, cereal etc. And somehow they manage to carry just about anything you need from produce to small household needs. We're moving down the street and will be closer to a different store but will walk the extra distance just to keep coming to SLM. Oh, and the coffee is great! read more

Really amazing selection of wines and beer. They stock a remarkable amount of dry goods and produce and I have always found that last item that completes a meal that I may have forgotten or ran out of. Mariano's, Jewel, pfft! The South Loop Markets are really the quintessential convenience stores. I have read over some of the reviews and most are more than 3 years old. I began frequenting the 1720 S Michigan location when it first opened. Then I forgot about it. Maybe Whole Foods made it's way to the area. Who knows. I digress. I have reunited with my favorite convenience store! Like an old flame who makes their way back into your life. Sometimes love is better the 2nd time around! I love everything about these stores. Boy, have they evolved! I think 7 locations in total right here in our little South Loop. I swear our little neighborhood is like the Little Engine that could...Well, in the jammed packed aisles, which I don't mind, you can find a little bit of everything and every brand. Snacks, quality Boars Head meats/cheeses, variety of household goods, fresh fruits veggies and meat as well as an acceptable beer and wine selection. If personal items are what you need and just want to pop in and not deal with the madness at the big box type grocers, then this market is for you. You will also find select delicacies that you won't find at the other small guy down the street. For example, a pre-made entree- turkey bolognese and pasta dish with broccoli. Just heat, dinner is served! My favorite thing about the market is the deli! Made to order sandwiches and soup daily. The breakfast sandwiches are available until 11 am during the week and 12pm on the weekends. Tasty! Honorable mention goes to the chili! Yummy on these arctic days. I would tend to disagree with anyone who says it is pricey. I always find that I get much more for my dollars than if I shop at Mariano's, Whole Paycheck or even Jewel. If you are driving, there are Pay at the Boxes on Michigan. I plug in for 15 min/.85 cents. Can't beat that with a stick. Be sure to plug the box, the meter maids are always on the prowl on that end of Michigan. I go so often, I think they know my name...Cheers! read more

South Loop Market is what this South Loop area needs. The closest major grocery stores are Jewel and Target on Roosevelt, about a 10-30 minute walk away depending on where you live in the area (which is treacherous in the winter). For city dwellers who commute via bus or foot, this is a convenient location for some basic needs. Yes this grocery store is expensive. But you pay a premium for convenience. If you want to do the majority of your grocery shopping on a budget, go to Jewel or Target. This store has fresh produce, alcohol, your basic grocery needs, and some more. The store is relatively large for a corner grocery and very clean. The staff is friendly. There is a minimum charge to process credit; I think it's $3 or $4. I always swing by to buy items I forget at Jewel, typically fresh produce, which is reasonably priced. It may be 25 cents more expensive, but once again, you're paying for convenience. Overall great place. And you're supporting a local family run business too. :) read more

All I can say is they're completely unprofessional and maintain no work ethic whatsoever. I know... I've worked there! I kept my part of the deli always clean as far as closing cause yes, I did close most of the days but not anymore so whatever complains/problems you all have, well, they're not mine anymore! Trust me, swarm the deli with questions and they'll hesitate to answer to the "best" of their knowledge. I love this place - i'm really very jealous because i used to live in this building 2 years ago and there was NOTHING in the area. now theres a great grocery / multi use store IN the building - how awesome is that. Ok. This place is awesome!! The owner is such a great person and the employees are always friendly and helpful. The sandwiches are the best I have ever tasted. The pre-prepared salads are delicious and I love the variety of food and drink that they have. I also love that they carry organic foods, it stinks to have to travel so far to Whole Foods for that all the time, the convenience is definitely there but they also have regular sale items so it's the best of both worlds. NOW, the whole using your credit card thing...they get charged for that if people didn't know, these are tough times and I don't blame them for trying to save as much money as possible and still run an awesome business.
