Won't be back to this horrible store. From the beginning to the end - and absolute horrible experience. Entering the store from the garage, we were greeting by an overflowing garbage bucket with trash on the ground all around it. Inside the store, the aisles are too narrow making avoiding accidents your main concern shopping. The soda pop selection was very thin, and I ended up leaving with a few bottles on sale rather the several 12 packs was looking to purchase. But the icing on the cake was our cashier who was flirting with another employee as we waited behind him. When it came time for her to process our order, the smile vanished to be replaced by the dead-eye stare and complete coldness in spite of my efforts to be cheerful. Quadasha needs to go get a job watching an empty building or something, because she shouldn't be in front of customers. read more

Mariano's - Horrible rude cashier! - Grocery Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

I love Mariano's!!! The staff is friendly, the aisles are always clean and the ready-to-go food is always yummy! Lines are never too long either. There are so many lanes to check out that shopping here is super convenient. They grill your meat here for free which is awesome! You can build a salad at the salad bar or grab a warm lunch or sushi. Coming here after work can be a little more crowded but nothing overpowering. I love the organic options they have here! There's a parking lot right outside and a parking garage next door. I've never had to go the garage because people are always coming in and out. Trust me, lines move quickly. When we moved I thought it'd be tough to break away from my beloved Pete's but Mariano's has not disappointed. read more

Mariano's has been my favorite grocery store for years now and enjoy their prices and free sample tasting especially the this one. The store is always kept clean and plenty of grocery carts including the double baby carts. Compared to other Mariano's this store does not have an oyster bar and Wine/Sushi station. The only negative that I have for this store is the bagging. I always ask for paper bags and they always use one paper bag for milk. All the other stores double bag my milk. Other than this issue - I love Mariano's and the free samples. read more

This is probably one of my most favorite locations, I like it because it's not one of their mega stores, it fits comfy like an old pair of blue jeans. Easy to navigate, by my third visit here I knew the layout and the best route to pick up my items, or just take it leisurely and find something new to try. As you enter you'll find yourself in produce, sales are usually right up front, again not the largest selection, however fresh and creative, same for the cheese selection that follows, then the liquor right after that. At this point I can be done shopping and head for the register. Of course there's more, so shop on. Staff is friendly and helpful, deli department is efficient. Customers are generally in a good mood here, I can't think of a time that I've visited here and not conversed with someone in the checkout line or while waiting at the deli counter, either about the weather, or a product. Yesterday was in the checkout lane, have you had those before? Yes, they're good I said back. Then she commented they have chocolate now, me, oh really something more to get hooked on. A minute of conversation, didn't hold up the line or delay anyone, however just made my day go by a little better, hopefully it did hers to. After all, we can chose to be pleasant or get back to our regularly scheduled habit of being snarly and giving each other the universal salute for driving mistakes or the backpack that nearly knocks you over on the CTA. read more

This Mariano's location is one of my go to locations. It is easy to get to and has plentiful parking. I stopped in after work to quickly pick up a few things. The store was not crowded and the shelves were fully stocked. The bakery and fresh seafood area looked great. The produce section had tons of in season items. I like a store that is clean and organized that employs friendly and helpful staff. I was in and out quickly. read more

The smoothy bar has had some of the most unpleasant individuals working there. I walked out one day because the lady scratched her weave and then started to make my smoothie. she had on the same gloves she used to scratch her hair. The regular lady isn't friendly either, have come several times and no one is at juice/smoothie counter hours before it's suppose to close. it would be nice if there were someone there consist you who was aware of food handling procedures. lots of things have changed since the new owners took place. I go because it near me... not what it use to be read more

I will never shop at a mariano's grocery store ever again. I used to work in a fast food restaurant and i can tell when the food has been sitting out too long. There's rules and regulations of a time frame for foods to be cooked, prepared and served. If the foods haven't been served at a particular time frame.... it is supposed to be tossed out in the trash. Some places offer a discount or refuse to sell their food. The prices throughout the store is extremely expensive. I forgot to take pictures of the counter display, my food, and price. At the hot food display---the pizza and sandwiches were dried out and for sale at the regular price. There was greese and food splattered on the counter top. I've tried to find something reasonable to purchase during this time frame. So, I've selected one chicken breast and a fork sample of mac n cheese, potatoes... The price was $10.71 for old food sitting out. I will never again shop at Mariano's. Whole Foods is another grocery store that I will never shop in. This was a ridiculous experience. read more

My new neighborhood Marianos! I love the setup and everyone who works here is pretty nice. Parking lot in the front is small and incovenient if you are trying to get out of there and then end up behind someone waiting on another car to move to take the space. Probably easier if you drive into the garage. read more

Building looks pretty unassuming. We almost drove right past it. We got lucky and parked outside. I'm not sure the layout is the best. Weird, you have to go through tables to look at some of the items. It was a bit congested around the sushi area, so it must be a bit annoying trying to enjoy your sushi when people are trying to pass since it's a bit tight over there. I think the selection is a bit better at the Greektown location. I'll still go as it's closer to me. read more

This review is for their amazing doughnuts. I'm addicted to the powdered Bavarian Bismarck which weighs in at 130 grams (I weighed it at home to estimate calories). The Boston Cream, Glazed, Jelly, Cronut, and Pershing donuts are also fantastic. Better yet, they're all good. If you're curious about the calorie count, it's probably around 570 calories per doughnut. 4 powdered Entenmann's Pop Ems weigh 57 grams and have 250 calories. Therefore, (130/57) * 250 = 570. All of a sudden, I feel bad about eating 2 or 3 of them. Dunkin Donuts Bavarian Cream donuts come in at 270 calories a piece which explains why they are half the size of Mariano's. Anyway, this is probably too much info. Long story short, just eat one if you are worried about your waistline. However, if we're eating donuts, let's count calories another day. "I'll start my diet tomorrow." read more

No one working at the store seems to care. So many times I've been there and there are no carts available. The store isn't busy and all of the carts are scattered around the parking lot instead of the store. I had a bagger drop my bag of groceries on the ground while placing it in the cart and walk away. A bottle of olive oil shattered and everything in the bag was ruined. I got yogurt from the salad bar and they had mixed up the bacon into the granola. That made for a terrible breakfast. I ordered a pizza, waited for 15 minutes, came back to the counter to pick it up and was told that I never placed the order. It was the same rude woman who took my order who told me that I never placed the order only 15 minutes after I made the order with her. The close the deli counter way before the store closes. Once it was two hours before the store closed. They do whatever they want. I made the mistake of getting their sushi. I threw it out after one bite because I was afraid I might die. I try to never go back to that store and will only in a desperate pinch. The store had gone downhill and it's only getting worse. read more

I'm getting a tad perturbed with this location. I popped in again on a Tue after work hours, and the place is pretty busy. That's a good thing, right? I guess the management doesn't believe in prepping for a rush. The lines to check out where through to the aisles, the 15 item or less line was being used by people with full carts, and they only had 3 registers open. I figured I would grab a boost and order ab espresso before checking out, but that was an insult. I asked for my espresso solo, and the register person (definitely not a barista) asked, "what size?" OH THE HUMANITY! I asked, "what do you mean what size?" She proceeded to ask, "small, medium, or large?" WTF?!?! Really? I flat out asked if she knew how to make it, and she said "she was covering a shit, it's not my department." I almost threw up a little. That alone should warn you that this place has hit rock bottom. read more

This Mariano's is so fantastic, they have so great customer service. Their staff are so friendly and helpful, all of them will greet you with a smile and a cheerful welcome once you enter their store. Their items are truly fair, good quality, and always fresh. They have so lots of nice selection of foods, fruits, vegetables, and other supplies. Their store is very organized and clean, their place is so great, you can easily find all the things you need because they are well-stocked and well-sorted. Their prices are always reasonable and they also have great deals, promos, and even sale items. I really love this store, they also have fresh sushi, beef, fish, and imported products. This Mariano's got the perfect location, it is so easy and quick to go. They have lot of parking lot, and they are nearby in other landmark around the City. 5-star for this Mariano's because of their amazing customer service, great produce and imported items, and also for such a wonderful experience. Thank you Mariano's, keep up the good work. Good job! read more

There are pros and cons to each Mariano store. In particular I am baffled by the tight spacing around the Produce and fresh seafood/meat section - while the rest of the store seems spacious. Also I don't understand why they didn't incorporate grocery cart escalators here to the upstairs parking garage like they did on Halsted. Having to wait for 2 small elevators that barely fit a cart and other passenger - seem efficient. read more

I stayed away as long as I could, because I knew this could become addicting. It has, but in a good way. The juice bar is at the front door. The Green Detox is wonderful-kale, pineapple, spinach. I was shopping before 8am yesterday during your senior hours. I was very uncomfortable to see two employees wearing their masks around their neck. They were walking between the lines and I saw them numerous times while I was there. So it wasn't just removing their mask for a second it was the entire time I was there. I went there two weeks ago and half of the employees were without masks. I called and let the manager know. I was hoping for a huge improvement today but was disappointed to see the people stocking the shelves either without masks or not covering their noses and standing right next to me while I was shopping. Once again before 8am during senior hours. The cashier was properly masked and everyone was friendly but I don't feel safe. I love Mariano's and keep hoping you will enforce your mask policy. I went to Mariano's again today to give them one last chance. I was very pleased to see that EVERY single person - employee and customer- was properly wearing a mask and being socially distant. And was polite. read more

With all the hardships we have all recently endured due to covid-19 picking up groceries should be easy! At Marianos on Clark st in the south loop it was exactly that! Clearly marked parking / waiting area. Clear instructions with phone number attached. I especially want to send a big thank k you to the young ladies bringing our groceries to us and checking us out. They were extremely pleasant and courteous! They were thorough and fast! Kudos to the staff there at Marianos, with all the stress we all endure daily it was a wonderful trip to get the things we needed by ESSENTIAL employees!! Please know we appreciate you! read more

Love this store! Great selection of produce, meats and already made items. Staff are generally kind, helpful and patient.

1. I bought a prepared meal to take home with my other groceries, and the bagger stuffed it vertically into my shopping bag, leading to a chicken breast dinner with mashed potatoes smeared all over it. 2. I bought a pint of fat-free milk and the bagger packed it on its side at the bottom of a bag of groceries. The weight of the groceries on top of the milk broke the seal of the milk bottle and milk spilled over other dry goods in the bag, including a cardboard box of sandwich bags. By the time I got home the cardboard box of sandwich bags had been soaked through by leakage from the milk bottle. read more

My main gripe with this location is the lines. If you go to this Mariano's any time after 5 p.m. on a week night, the lines are ridiculous. Now anyone with common sense knows that a ton of people grocery shop after work. But for some reason Mariano's hasn't gotten the message and continually has a shortage of cashiers. I've literally had to wait in line for over 10 minutes to check out. Other than the lines, this isn't a bad location. The store is fairly large and has a good layout and selection of products. Like other Mariano's, they'll cook your meat there at the grill station if you ask. They also have a good selection of organic products. I wouldn't go out of my way to go to this Mariano's, but if you live in the area, it gets the job done. read more

I pulled into the parking lot and walked a few feet and 2 women turned their heads and looked at strangely. Inside the store people were giving me derisive glances. I LOVE Mariano's. Even though this location is a mile away and Jewel is 3 block away from where I live, I go here. In comparison to the West Loop Halsted location, it's smaller and I feel they don't stock up as much as they should. That being said, there is A LOT more parking available and it's definitely not as crazy and crowded most days. I get all my produce and meat/poulty/seafood here if I want them in smaller portions (as opposed to Costco sizes). Definitely thankful for this South Loop gem! Don't forget to get some $1.50 gelato from Vero! read more

In terms of aesthetics and selection, I really like the direction that Mariano's has. Value picks, reasonably priced organics, good selection of gluten-free/health food items. Heck, they even have that tiny section of rare game meats in the freezers. Their coffee bar is a steal and I like picking up a meal when I'm on a time crunch from their stations. BUT, you have to double check your products before or after purchasing. Within the span of 2 months, I had a loaf of bread that was moldy (but still pre-expiration date) and a pack of chicken sausages that was still on the shelves despite being 2 and a half weeks past its use by date. When it comes to customer service, I do have to agree with the other reviews that this is their downfall. You have a 50/50 shot their cashiers not even acknowledging your existence. Also, no amends were given to the issues above, an apathetic refund by the hourly associate who couldn't give any less of a crap. Luckily, retailers seem to be on even ground when it comes to selection, so I can find equivalent products at Jewel, usually for a cheaper price. I still go here because it's the closest store to me, but I have also lowered my expectations considerably to match. read more

Be very careful shopping here. Employees wear masks underneath their noses and do not social distance AT ALL ! Too many people allowed in the store at one time. Lanes and check outs are too crowded. They do not sanitize their carts. You have to do that yourself at the front. Store looks dirty. Try and go someplace else. read more

Overall, I think this is a wonderful neighborhood grocery store. The produce is fresh (MUCH better than at Jewel), the deli staff are extremely kind, and there is ample parking. The store is very tidy and the prices are extremely reasonable. I love their selection of seasonal flowers and how beautiful the entrance decorations are for different holidays. The only thing I would change would be to have the self-check scanners next to the cafe to be open more often. It seems they are usually closed in the mornings. read more

Now, I'm a little embarrassed to say it, but I'm in love with my grocery store. When I first a heard the news that a grocery store closer than Jewel was opening near my place, I was excited. Moving from Boston, I was unfamiliar with all the buzz about Mariano's and simply happy I wouldn't have carry heavy items an extra 3 blocks. I didn't expect to appreciate it as much as I have. Mariano's offers quality more or less on par with Whole Foods and Trader Joe's, but presents it with it's own flair and at a price point that is very competitive. Their Vero coffee and gelato are solid. The produce, deli, butcher, and bakery are better than most. Their employees are more professional and courteous than other supermarket chains. Their stores are cleaner, offer more diverse items, and the are just classier (note: grand piano at checkout.) The South Loop location is not as expansive as other stores in the city. I wish that it contained the larger wine and liquor departments of locations in the city. And the overall grocery and prepared food items aren't as varied, as say the West Loop location. Yet, the staff has always been helpful and generally friendly. read more

Mariano's - Produce greets you as you enter Mariano's South Loop. - Grocery Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Attended the highly anticipated GRAND OPENING and overall, it did not disappoint! After arriving in the parking lot, my friends and I noticed that it was pretty small compared to the West Loop location, so make sure you keep a close eye out for open spaces. The first thing we noticed after walking in was SAMPLES-PALOOZA. There were so many delicious treats to try out today so much so that it puts Costco's samples to shame. As you enter, you'll find the familiar juice bar straight ahead along with Vero coffee/gelato and Okai sushi to the right. We tried some of the freshly squeezed orange juice which will change your life. They also have smoothies and other juices that they squeeze fresh daily! Walking past the produce and juice bar, we found ourselves in the dairy and dried foods section which is in the same vicinity as the meats and seafood. Something that I love about Mariano's is that they have such a wide variety of cheeses from all over the world. The cheese mongers are also very knowledgeable so ask them if you have questions. Today, I tried a Swiss Gruyère which was nutty as well as a creamy goat's milk cheese which had black flecks of black truffle in it. I have to say that my favorite cheese that I sampled today was one that contained Nueske's bacon. The cheese was grilled so it was slightly gooey on the inside with bits of bacon throughout. TRY IT!! In the seafood section, I noticed a gigantic fish in the display case. They were giving out samples of this fish and turns that it was Opah! Fun fact: Mariano's flies their seafood in so it is incredibly fresh! They also had mussels on sale today which looked great. Right next to the seafood station is the meat section where you can buy different proteins and have Mariano's cook them to your liking free of charge! My friends and I opted for burgers today and it's as easy as picking your proteins and passing them to the grill. There are breads in the bakery which are very inexpensive that you can pair with your burger. The grill station was super busy today with people getting steaks and sausages grilled for them. I tried a chicken sausage with feta today and it was one of the most flavorful chicken sausages I've ever had! Moving on...the set up of the hot foods/deli/confections/salad bar/bakery section is very similar to that of the West Loop location. There were tons of samples here as expected. I tried the famous Eli's cheesecake which was amazing as well as an assortment of deli meats and cheeses. The rest of the store was full of aisles and aisles of goodies and samples at each turn. Overall, Mariano's has exceeded my expectations and is still one of my favorite one-stop-shop grocers in the city! It was really nice to sample some of the products before purchasing. They even turned me onto things that I never thought I'd like. Compared to the West Loop location, I felt the store is a bit cramped and the lounges are dramatically smaller. I wish they would've added a few more quick check out kiosks throughout the store as well, but space would've probably be an issue. The only thing that left me with a sour taste in my mouth was that my friend completely wiped out on the floor on our way out. After taking a closer look, there was soup spilled all over without a single caution sign visible. I looked behind me and the employee changing out the soups (...and the one who most likely spilled the soup) clearly saw my friend fall, but instead of checking on her, she turned around and went back to changing the soup. Thankfully a more responsible employee checked on my friend and made sure she was alright before cleaning the mess up immediately. Even with these minor hiccups, I know it was their grand opening today so things are bound to happen, but for the most part, the store ran like a well-oiled machine. Will definitely be back! read more

Mariano's is the mullet of grocery stores. Whole Foods in front, Jewel in the back. And like mullets, I can't really decide how I feel. Is Mariano's having an identity crisis? As you enter, you think "oh, Whole Foods!" and oooo and ahhh over the juice bar and cheesemonger station, etc. But as you round the bend, you realize "hmm, I've stepped in the 7th layer of hell known as Jewel a few blocks north." Ok, it's leaps and bounds above the Jewel on State. Some would argue that Mariano's then has the best of both worlds - you can get your fancy beet juice and Humboldt Fog and gooey toffees, and then your Roundy's brand mustard and rice. As a hybrid, I think it works nicely. As for the parking situation, beware. That garage is a death trap on Saturday afternoons. read more

This weekend, a woman with her dog was standing outside as I parked my car. An employee inside the store saw her, grabbed a water dish, filled it with water and brought it out for her dog. She was so shocked and speechless that someone from a grocery store would do such a thing that she almost forgot to say anything. Realizing what happened, she thanked the man numerous times. He didn't think anything of it - almost as if this was the norm for service from Mariano's. Dominick's went out of business and Jewel is headed out soon. Why? Because of customer service like this. Small touches make me appreciate a store investing money into quality service. It starts at the top and I'm happy to have this local chain in our area. I'm a regular customer now. read more

BOOM. Best grocery store ever. Freshest produce, incredible meat and seafood selection, confectionery, bakery, and oh, all the other regular stuff that you need to live and don't want to pay out the a... wazoo for at Whole Foods. Like $20 hand soap. Although not as ginormous as the River East store, this Mariano's is a most welcome neighbor in my neighborhood. The nearby Jewel is better than most, but it doesn't come close to keeping pace. South Loop Market is still best for the quickie runs like snacks, beer and that ingredient you're missing for dinner. Samples. I'm not sure if this is par, or just while the store gets up and humming, but there are samples everywhere. House made sausages, fresh orange juice, canoli's, cereal, and it goes on. And, it works, so they should keep doing it. Not everything is a bargain, but there are lots of them regardless and the store is more than fairly priced on most things. Don't forget... 1. to have them grill stuff for you at the meat counter for a last minute dinner solution. 2. about the sushi and hot food bar, (the fried chicken was pretty legit) 3. grab some gelato on your way out! So, so glad that this opened up near us. We used to go to the one on Halsted because, let's face it, Dominick's and Jewel have seriously gone downhill over the years. Yes, there is Whole Foods and Trader Joe's but I don't need everything organic and sometimes I just want a family-sized bag of Doritos without someone judging me, ok?!??! Anyway. It's brand spankin' new so it's clean, bright, and shiny. I love the hot bar, the salad bar, the soup bar, uh....pretty much all the sections with food in it. Everyone is so friendly and polite. Huge improvement over the other place *cough*JEWEL*cough* where I witnessed an employee scowling and staring down another employee working a few feet away. So. Much. Disdain. We walked down the international foods aisle and it was pretty nifty because it's different from all the other aisles. There's one of those light projectors that projects decorations on the floor and I'm pretty sure we heard different music playing in that aisle. Ah...I forgot to note down the different ethnic groups that were represented but if you've ever been to Meijer, it's kinda like that but a little fancier. Since it's opening week, we got a free reusable shopping bag at the checkout. We were mailed a postcard to bring in to get another bag but we misplaced it so it was nice that they gave us one anyway. Last but not least: $1 mini cup of gelato from Vero. Yum. I tried hazelnut and my sister had wild berry. It was just the right amount of a sweet treat and the price can't be beat. Just a heads up: if you've ever been to the one on Halsted, the indoor parking lot here is the same thing: very steep and tight turning corners. I went there today and even the police officers who direct the traffic in that lot said people were complaining about not wanting to park in there. There's an outdoor lot but it's small. read more

Super excited to have Mariano's come to the South Loop, but very disappointed in the quality of this Mariano's compared to every other location. The good: Produce, although expensive, they have a great variety and its mostly fresh. Obviously it has a great selection of products too like most other grocery stores. The bad: Meat seems older and less fresh. The seafood is a huge turn off and typically looks old and drying up. All other Mariano's locations have great looking meat and fish that looks fresh every time I've gone. This is the exact opposite. This location is also slightly smaller or more congested and not well thought out. Overall, I won't be coming here much and I've been turned off of Mariano's at this time. Too bad Dominicks is leaving town - they were more consistent in quality. Hopefully they turn it around. I too will treat it like a 7/11 for the occasional quick fix, but primarily use other grocery stores. read more

How do I say this...I want to stab people when I am here. First: I love Mariano's. Seriously, go there at 9 p.m. on a Saturday, and tell me it's not the most delightful grocery shopping experience you know. Fresh baked pretzel bread, juices, an excellent ice cream selection. It's all you could want and more. But any other time (read: where there are more than 10 people in the store), you're totally screwed. This location needs to figure out how to deal with shopping carts ASAP. Without a cart escalator, the only way people with lots of groceries (which are most people), and thus need a cart can get to the parking garage is by taking an elevator. The same elevators that employees use to bring carts back from the parking garage to the shopping area. It's the definition of clusterf***. You end up jockeying for position around the small elevator bank, praying the jerk behind you doesn't bum-rush the elevator as soon as it opens (and before the people on it can even get off). I have had to play bumper cars with the cart and physically force myself in after waiting for 10 minutes just to get into an elevator. On a different note, with the recent Chicago plastic bag ban, the employees need to learn how to pack a paper grocery bag. I've been given a thirty pound bag that breaks as well as a dozen bags with one item in them each. Maybe a staff meeting with baggers is needed. All this aside, Mariano's is still probably my favorite grocery store just because of the vast selection. read more

I am unimpressed by the smoothie bar. There was no one in line when I got there, yet I stood there for over 10 minutes at before even being acknowledged. Then it took at least another 10 before the smoothie was made. The clerk, Doyle, was too busy making free samples to serve the customers who wanted to pay for a drink. I understand if you're making other smoothies but at least communicate. A line formed but several people walked away after realizing the hopelessness of the situation. I live close by and would have been better off buying ingredients and going home to make the smoothie. It would have been faster and cheaper. Why did I stay in line? The sad part is this isn't the first time this has happened at this store. I completed the review as the smoothie was, at last, being poured. Update: it didn't even taste good read more
