Mariano's stores have a classy vibe. They exude an aura of quality. Their stores have an excellent ambiance. When I walk in, I notice the stores are well-organized with phenomenal displays. I value that Mariano's stores typically have a wide variety and selection. It is also superb that they have a dining area. I have appreciated the ability to obtain prepared foods at Mariano's, including delicacies like sushi. I have found other great prepared foods at Mariano's that I enjoyed a lot, e.g,. succulent beef pot roast. It is fantastic that Mariano's have self checkout kiosks, which can help with convenience. Selling Spoiled Meat & Terrible Customer Service Do not buy meat from this Mariano's butcher counter. Over the course of a few months, I have ended up with rotten, rancid chicken from here on three separate occasions. My most recent purchase was on March 30th, and I brought it back for a refund just two days later. When I brought the spoiled chicken back to the store around 8:30 PM, the customer service was just as bad as the food quality. I had to go through three different people just to get my money back. 1. First, the self-checkout cashier simply told me "the return counter is closed" and offered zero solutions for the biohazard I had purchased. 2. She called over Jennifer, who I thought was a manager. Jennifer told me I couldn't get a refund until the bookkeeper came in the next day and told me to just take the spoiled chicken--or the label--back home with me. I firmly refused to carry rotting meat back to my condo. I asked her to look up my purchase via my Mariano's rewards number, but she didn't know how (or didn't want to) and had to call the actual manager. 3. Finally, a manager named Michael came over. After forcing me to explain the situation for a third time, he told me the receipt could be found through the app. I actually had to call my wife right there in the store so she could log into her app and pull up the receipt for him. The worst part of this entire experience was Michael's reaction. When I stressed how important it is for them to check their meat cooler temperatures because this was my third time buying rotten chicken, he completely dismissed me. He simply responded, "This is a first for me." A manager brushing off a serious health and food safety warning instead of investigating their coolers is alarming. Save yourself the money, the hassle, and the risk of food poisoning. Shop somewhere else for your "fresh" meats. read more

Staff was super friendly and very helpful. This store is massive. The right side is fancy, like our Nugget or Corti Brothers here in nor cal- and the right side of the store is more like Safeway or Albertsons. We found a nice cake on a huge discount and tons of fresh juices for amazing prices. We'll def go back on our next trip to Chicago. This store is very inconsistent with their sale prices. I attempted to purchase a rotisserie chicken which based on their store policy should have been marked down due to the expiration date. This simple request escalated to the hispanic customer service woman accusing me of trying to scam the store and steal the chicken. This inflammatory comment was made in front of other customers. I immediately asked or her manager and was blown off by an Asst Manager named Joann. During my next visit, I asked for the store manager and was quickly dismissed by a manager named Chad. He never accepted responsibility for his employees comment and my time invested in correcting their error. I called corporate and left my name, hone and email address. A week later still no response. This is a poorly run store with incompetent staff throughout. Please join me in taking your business elsewhere! read more

I can't in good conscience recommend this location if you're shopping for fruit/veggies. They are frequently out of staples. They frequently have expired and moldy produce on the shelves. You have to be very careful about what you purchase here. The other departments are fully stocked. The staff are friendly. But go to the nearby Whole Foods for your produce. read more

Do not go to this location for the Stan's Donuts. They have ceased to staff the donut area and will not acknowledge anyone standing there. Clearly they must get to take the leftover donuts home at night because they aren't trying to sell any of them. This store has some quality products and a great variety of items. I went to the deli meat section to get some select Italian meats to make a sandwich at home. The employee assisting me took an extremely long time to 3 - half pounds selections of meat. The first meat I asked for he went to the back for a while, then came back, had to walk out around the display to the end get the meat, talk to another employee for several minutes before even starting to slice the meat. It took over 30 minutes to get this done, I decided against getting any provolone due to the time it took for the meat. While staff cannot tell when people need to get assistance quickly and get out of the store their time is wasted by the staff representing the business. Furthermore at the checkout the employee at the register was complaining about the previous customer. The last thing another customer wants to hear is your employee complaining about the customers they serve when they should be happy to have jobs and be grateful for the facts that they have those jobs. The cost of groceries are expensive and people pay a lot of money they shouldn't have to ask for assistance with bagging when they are paying these prices at the checkout. The checker at the checkout was complaining because the previous customer told the employee she needed to bag her groceries and the checker told the women that bagging wasn't done you have to ask for assistance. I bake a lot so when it comes to buying a cake I'm very picky. Marianos never disappoints! Whether I place a special order for a cake or I purchase one out of the refrigerated section they are always on point. I would love to have that frosting recipe so if anyone has it please share! I called and spoke to Michelle and really had no idea what I wanted but she did a fabulous job taking my order and remembering me when I picked up the cake. I believe she's helped me in the past and has a delightful personality and has a lot of patience. I chose this color scheme because we are a family that loves the Kansas City Chiefs! My son's birthday and the signing of Patrick Mahone's 10 year contract fell on the same day so what better way to celebrate! If I could give zero stars I would. For one I had to wait for a cart before shopping. No carts in the store, really?! Then when I was about to check out, I heard "you can't check out here" this very short woman was said rudely "only 20 items or less." Mind you there is no signage that states this. I've been coming to this Mariano's since 2016 living in South Loop and I've always been able to check out at self check out quickly. Meh. Sad what time does. From what I read Mariano's was not a sustainable model, and it's shown. You can't have high quality with low prices forever, and Mariano's has chosen which way to swing on that. I feel like the produce area is always empty, and the only thing that really separates it from the nearby Jewel is the better prepared food area. But, even then, it's not as good as it used to be and it's probably the worst Mariano's of the three that are accessible to me (Greektown and the one by Millennium Park). It's smaller and just feels neglected at times. It works in a pinch, and if you live nearby it will work adequately. My cashier had to do my bagging. I rack up a $78.00 bill and try to use my LINK card. EBT not working. Had to use my own money. Somebody owes me a rebate. read more

This store isn't perfect. Sure, it's missing items at times but it might be distributor or manufacturer issues. There are occasionally idiotic customers who ignore mask mandates or think a chin guard will suffice. I get it, low brain cell count or brainwashed by misinformation. The workers don't enforce the mandate and I get they aren't paid enough to deal with crazy or stupid. Sometimes they don't have enough checkout lanes open. They aren't strict like other stores that check at the entrance and it's disappointing but out of my control. Someone was shot and killed in this parking lot a couple of months back. Sad and unfortunate. I heard the store went on lock down and saw a lot of squad cars were around that day. The world feels crazier now. But back to the store, this is a nice big location and they carry the usual items most locations carry. But I feel like other locations might have a bigger variety but I go to this one a lot because of the convenient location. It's bigger than the small South Loop location and the parking lot isn't designed to kill pedestrians like that South Loop one. You know what I mean if you've been to that location. The entrance is right where cars can make a right turn. The only reason I'm giving this location five stars despite the flaws mentioned above is because the workers seem happy here. I walked past an employee handing another differently abled employee some cleaning supplies and over heard him telling him to take his time. I'm not sure if it's Kroger or Mariano's policy to hire differently abled people or just this location, but it was really nice to see. It gave me the warm fuzzes inside and reminded me the world isn't full of assholes. The rest of the employees seem laid back too. Walked past three employees making chocolate strawberries, two dipping and one chatting the other two up. It's just nice to seem happy employees in a stressful field that didn't shut down at all or doesn't have the luxury of working from home. This one guy who works the self checkout is super friendly and always apologetic when the line is too long. The perfect five stars are for all the employees here. read more

Mariano's is a great store near my place. It is clean and everything in every section is well organized. I can say that it is the most convenient grocery store I have ever had because every time I feel lazy to cook and does not feel like eating in a restaurant I just go here and get my self a nice piece of meat and grilled it in their grilling section and just like that I can enjoy a nice steak for lunch. Another one is that they have like some sort of buffet section where you can choose anything you would like to eat. Additionally is that they have a large section of frozen and fresh foods and produce, bakery section is also available with lots of delicious pastries, a good dairy section but sometimes they run out of stock and also a bunch of liquors in its selection. I am appalled and disappointed that the Mariano's on Clark Street, near South Side is sending texts at 3:39 am for a 1-2 pm delivery! I have brought this to their attention several times as I am 70 years old and receiving a text regarding substitutions on items is disruptive and does not allow me to get the rest a senior citizen needs. Most employees don't have their noses covered. The announcements that are on a loop clearly say small children are exempt from masks but when a large kid walks around not a single employee says anything or bats an eye. I shouldn't have to go to the customer service desk and drag the manager out just to bring it to their attention. Safety is not a priority here, money is. I like this store here's why: - Large selection of frozen and fresh foods - Large bakery - Awesome bakery staff who gives personal attention and appears to like answering questions - Clean store - Heavy traffic and high volume sales store so good rarely expires! It's important to me to have fresh food. I don't like stores that hardly have customers because their food is always bearing expiring, but this location is different. Cons- The parking situation is hard to figure out. They have a parking garage but how you get into it and where you find it is a mystery to me. My first time here and I only decided to go here because I went to the bank and I wanted to grab some quick groceries. It was okay while I was shopping, but when I got to the end of my shopping journey, it turned sour. The worker working self-checkout was way to preoccupied standing around and looking for someone than paying attention. It would have been a simple transaction, but she was so distracted. Then she packed my groceries and put the deviled eggs on their side and they spilled around in the package. I had to quickly take them out or the filling. Also, the customers here are kind of rude. When I went into the self-checkout line, people who were walking behind me cut me in line and crowded a customer trying to pay for her stuff at the self-check out machine. I even told them that they are cutting and one guy said "oh" but still stood right in front of me - talking on his phone the whole time. The same people blocked an aisle I was trying to go through and wouldn't move even after I said politely said excuse me. Such negative experiences, I won't bother coming back here. Shame since this is a good spot to put one and tons of parking outside and inside. I'll just stick to staying in my neighborhood Mariano's and other grocery stores. read more

I can't imagine a world without Mariano's. I've had the pleasure of being spoiled by the awesome Wegmans back when I was living in New York and this is the closest thing that comes to it in terms of food quality, diversity in offerings, customer service, and store layout/ambience. Mariano's does all the little things right. Clean store. Smiling employees. Pick from an assortment of bottled soda for $4. Samples of food throughout the week. Chicago mix popcorn under $5? Fast checkout lines. I can go on and on... The only negative is the parking garage which is a little too steep. Corners are a sharp 90 degrees requiring a sharp turn and attention to oncoming traffic which you won't see until the last second. I'm glad that Mariano's has good prices on products but doesn't compromise on product selection. Chicago needed a good jolt of competition. Thank God. read more

I have been a shopper at this grocery store for over 3 years, and a year ago, I would have given this location 4-5 stars. In recent months, however, most departments at this store have gone downhill. Produce quality has severely deteriorated--I find rotten produce every time I visit. I also recommend never going on a Tuesday because the produce is usually cleaned out by then. Customer service is lacking and they are under staffed--the checkout line is always 5 people deep with a maximum of 3 regular checkout lines open. Ringers and baggers never greet you, never ask if you found everything okay, and ever since the new bag laws we're enacted, they overpack all the bags in an effort to pack everything into as few bags as possible, and they put items together that do not belong together in a bag. If they put my raw meat on top of my produce one more time, I will blow. read more

Mariano's, I love you but sadly, you need some tough love especially in the time of COVID-19. While many grocery stores in the area (Jewel, Trader Joes) are implementing safe measures (close to 6 feet distance) for customers, Mariano's has not. You would not be able to tell that we were in a pandemic if you step into this grocery store. In fact, more people are shopping here than on a normal day. I'm glad Mariano's is keeping people employed, but that comes at the cost of spreading disease to elderly shoppers, essential workers, and really everyone. There are intercoms above to remind us of safe distancing but no implementation of signs or tapes yet. Still enjoy the produce and the grilled to order chicken (complimentary). And I did love the honey chicken wings, but I'm glad Mariano's has shut this down in the time of COVID. This place works for me because I'm always in a hurry, and I can go in and out. It does or used to resemble somewhat of a Whole Foods but for cheaper prices. However, I think cleanliness of the washrooms and lack of appropriate safety measures, brings the rating down. read more

My go-to grocery store because it's close to work. Absolutely love that they offer regular produce but also organic choices. I can also always trust that I can make a quick stop here to pick up breakfast or lunch! They have a bunch of new self-check outs set up, by the hot bar, along with the other side sandwiching the registers with cashiers at them. I will say I've gotten 2-3 bags of clementines here and when I got home, found that one or two were rotten and moldy. A few frustrations at this location: a lot of time items and their items tags/price tags don't match up. I thought a box of candy for 2.29, but after examining the tag underneath, I realized it wasn't even the price tag for the item I wanted (even though the entire stack of them were there). Cashiers here also don't seem to ever have a sense of urgency, actually I don't even know if I would call it that..they move really slowly and take forever to scan all of your items. This can be extremely frustrating especially because there are many businesses around the area, along with apartments, the police department, and several schools. Knowing your neighborhood is so important. I've been here on several occasion where almost all of the check out lanes were open and all of them had lines. While trying to find the shortest line to get in, I'd see handfuls of other people doing the exact same thing, all of us not knowing which line to go to because all of them were packed. read more

We can no longer depend on Mariano's in Western Springs, IL for quality seafood. Quite often there is a strong fish odor coming from the back of the store. The odor has been very intense at the fish counter. I'm concerned that time and temperature monitoring is deficient. Fresh fish should not smell. read more

The smoothy bar has had some of the most unpleasant individuals working there. I walked out one day because the lady scratched her weave and then started to make my smoothie. she had on the same gloves she used to scratch her hair. The regular lady isn't friendly either, have come several times and no one is at juice/smoothie counter hours before it's suppose to close. it would be nice if there were someone there consist you who was aware of food handling procedures. lots of things have changed since the new owners took place.
