Great vibes, we stopped by during a World Cup match and they had TV's out ready to go. There's a World Cup menu too, get their specials! I didn't have anything as I was waiting to get dinner a little later but my friend wanted to order an empanada they didn't yet have ready so he got a different one instead. We sat down to watch the game and after he finished his empanada, they brought out the original one he asked for at no charge bc it was finally ready. My two daughters and I came in at about an hour before they were supposed to close. My youngest daughter wanted to go there for her 14th birthday because she tried the Maria's at Stanley before and loved the food. There was no one else in the restaurant except for two female waitresses and a male employee. They looked like they were cleaning, breaking things down, getting ready to close. I made it a point to get there no later than an hour before closing. I asked if it was too late to dine there and the lady who took our order said we can dine in. We ordered whatever empanadas and each of us ordered an order of Espanola (three total). When the order came, we only received two Espanolas. I asked about the third and she coldly ststed we ordered two. I didn't argue. Our waitress was indifferent, not friendly and both female employees acted annoyed we were even there. My older daughter asked for water and the waitress who took our order, without saying anything gave her a rude look and pointed to the water station. My two daughters noticed the two female waitresses glancing at us annoyingly and looking at each other annoyingly about us being there. We will never patronize this location again. read more

I haven't been here in awhile but, it's one of my favorites that my grandma used to make. They have new fillings coming soon. Mushrooms, beef p, chicken and a Italian now. All were excellent. I've been going to Maria Empanada at least 5 years now. I never realized that there were 4 other ones, and they're all 4+ Stars. The Empanadas are excellent, and the staff can tell them apart by the script on them. I have no idea what it could be... They usually do 2 Empanadas that are new and about a dozen others. Last time it was a Sweet BBQ Beef & an Italiano. This time it's an excellent Miso Steak & a Corn & Mexican Cheese one. Every Empanadas I've had from there for 5 years, has been just like the ones before. So you'll never have to worry about consistency. And since I saw that there's 5 total & they all have excellent reviews, proves my point even better. The ambience is really homie for an empanada place. This place is my go-to location of Maria E and each time I go here there is absolutely no disappointment or whatsoever. And I was surprised by a new flavor at my most recent visit there just yesterday and it is Sweet BBQ! I almost always get a few empanadas when I go to Maria E's and along with this new face, I got me one of my go-to's, Potato and Egg (I like their vegetarian options a lot.) And yet, this Sweet BBQ truly shocked me. In a way, it beat the Potato and Egg far exceedingly. The sweet bbq sauce that marinated the meat had the perfect sweetness. And the sauce was just the right amount where it didn't overpower the meat. The store was (as always) spotlessly clean. Service top-notch. There is something special about Maria for sure! read more

Recently, I visited Buenos Aires for the first time and absolutely loved it! I returned home yesterday and had this strong desire to visit Maria Empanada. So glad this business exists in the greater Denver area. It so reminds me of being back in Argentina and it will inspire me to return again soon. Today I ordered one of their new empanadas, Italiana. I attended an empanada-making class with five friends to celebrate a birthday, and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. I was amazed by the number of staff members on hand to support the class, including the owners and even their family members, which made the evening feel especially welcoming and personal. Ok, so my dad and I were making a road trip from LA to KC and as we were driving through Denver we decided that Maria Empanada would be a good lunch spot for us. And I'll be honest...I've been wanting to try the empanadas since it was featured on Triple D and our road trip was the perfect opportunity! Dad wasn't 100% sure about it but figured why not...and was very pleased with our lunch! We ended up ordering the Argentina, the Diego, and the Beef empanadas and OMG. The sauces and the giant empanadas were delicious! You go up to the counter and see the amazing spread of empanadas and just...I wish Maria Empanada was local so I could try alll the empanadas. The staff were awesome with answering questions about the various options - granted it's been a year so I have no idea what questions I actually asked. What a beautiful shop and cafe! I love how each location has unique charm and is a little different. At first I saw all the tables and was worried that I couldn't get to go food but then I saw a line. It was lunch time and there were people dining in as well as grabbing to go at the counter. I love the high quality of their food! My current obsession is their chorizo espanola and a berries and chocolate Alfajore with a cold brew! I haven't tried enough empanadas in my lifetime to give you a good comparison but I thought they were good. They ask if you want them heated up to eat there. BUT, if you have never tried (yerba) mate service, aka pour your own mate tea, you are missing out!!! It was so fun. Perfect for a hang out with your friends while drinking tea. There's a little step-by-step card to show you how to prepare it. Pretty much you don't want all the small tea leaves and dust to go through the filter straw. It doesn't necessarily taste like canned yerba mate, but if you add enough sugar, it almost does. It gets bitter if you let it steep for too long. They give you lots of tea leaves, enough for 4+ cups. By the end, you'll have yourself a nice caffeine buzz. There's a large TV that's playing soccer if that's your sort of thing. I grew up eating sweet Mexican empanadas that my mom used to make, usually filled with strawberry and pineapple jam. So, the first time I tried a savory empanada was at Maria Empanada , and that's probably why they're still my absolute favorite empanadas in Denver. I remember when this place was in Lakewood. It's come a long way with the cool, open brick walled space at the corner on Broadway. The cordatito, which is exactly what the name says, is maybe my new favorite coffee drink in the neighborhood. I have never had an Española so I tried it this morning. On order is a half of the round onion/potato/egg pancake/quiche so it's plenty of food. As the description of three ingredients would indicate I might call it "bland". However, with the sour crema sauce provided I couldn't stop going back to it. Perfectly fluffy and dense and eggy and potatoe-y at the same time. It was good enough to distract me from my chorizo empanada (which is definitely not bland). And for the price you could feed two people for a steal. The staff is quick and attentive. Visited Maria Empanadas during Tango music night and it was packed! Great for the business but less great for the patrons who also want to sit and enjoy a meal. The staff was kind and working as fast as possible to get orders taken. There were 0 open tables but on the plus side the place was 100% full and had extra chairs out for the audience. We listened for a bit and took a dozen empanadas to go. Would like to enjoy this next time they host an event and now we know to try there EARLY to snag a seat. Maria Empanada is a quaint little bakery serving up, yep you guessed it, all things empanada. They also have quite the coffee selection as well. I was impressed with the range of flavors and styles of the empanadas, they even have a couple breakfast versions. I went with the Napoli (a special edition for the month) and a Beef. They heat them up briefly prior to serving and allow you to pick one of three sauces to compliment the empanada -- I went with the green onion sour cream sauce. They were both pretty good, granted I wasn't too hungry at the time so ended up taking some of it to go. The inside has several tables and some cool decor that honors its history. Prices range from around $5 for a single empanada, to $28 for a half dozen or $54 for a dozen. You can expect to eat 2-3 per person. read more

Went here for a work dinner with our women's networking group - what a fun night! We entered and were greeted with a reserved table with some alfajorcitos (the best cookies ever, bought some to take home). We got to speak with Victor, the brand ambassador, and a special treat, Lorena (owner) stopped by to talk to our table about woman empowerment. We got to try six different empanadas - my favorite was the Argentina. They also brought out all the salsas - chinichurri obviously delicious but also really enjoyed the green onion crema. Excited to eat the rest of my dessert tonight. The staff was SO, SO nice and I love what Lorena said about her story - such an inspirational woman and business. Even the "vegetarian friendlier" options weren't bad. Appreciate the labeling the empanadas for easy designation for my group of hungry consumers.
