I went here after taking a walk with my daughter through Boulder. Didn't really have an agenda but I was needing a pick me up and went in here to grab a mate of all things. While I was there though I was not going to pass up the chance to get some empanadas but since I didn't come with an agenda I just told the guy behind the counter give me two choices of whatever you think is good. I appreciated when instead of questioning or getting confused or asking a follow up he just "you got it boss" and entered in the choices without thinking twice. I knew that he was a real one for this. I got my mate which they have on tap! On tap mate is dangerous but it was very delicious. They had two flavors one mixed with orange juice and one that was simply sweetened (not overly sweet at all. Less sweet than any yellow canned mate you might be thinking of). I tried both choices and the orange juice one was really good but after a full glass I felt a little weighed down. I can't remember the last time I drank that much orange juice. The food comes out and this is where my review is going to get unhelpful. I have no idea what either of these are called and honestly I don't need to know. The flavors were on point for both. One was a traditional seeming empanada with a ground beef mixture on the inside. Not spicy but the flavors were robust. The outer layer of the empanada was also flavorful but fell apart a bit from the heavy sog of beef filling. The taste was still great for all of it and it came with some kind of chimichurri adjacent sauce on the side that was maybe the best thing about the empanada. The second choice was less of an empanada and more of a tart or small pie? It had cheese and corn for the filling and was extremely gooey. Like more gooey than it had any right to be. I don't need to tell you that the combination of crust, cheese, and corn was delicious. If anything it was maybe a little too simple but I could eat that any day of the week and be happy. I got a wonderful table outside under some shade and gave my baby daughter some bites of the meat filling. She loved it. Came here with my friends on a Friday evening and it was very lively in here and loved the food and atmosphere! My friend has been telling me about this place so after wee checked out the amazing McGuckins Hardware, this is where we had planned to have dinner. My friend and I both had the #3 and #15 empanadas and both were great! But, i did not like their chimichurri, a little too lemony for me. We also got some alfajores and they were good (I am still trying to finish one of them - they are big!). The USA vs Paraguay FIFA match was on and there was lot of people in here watching. They had a screen projector TV and that worked out great! I'd definitely come back here again to watch soccer if I lived closer! Owner is very nice and this place has a great story! I have the bestest friends. I actually didn't go to this place myself but met up w some friends who did. I tried the corn empanada and the spicy beef... took a bite of the barbecue chicken. Everything was so tasty. I don't think I've ever had corn empanada before and thought the spicy beef was super flavorful. I do think it might be slightly smaller in size than another larger empanada local spot but I thought it was definitely less dry too. Came here for dinner with couple friends. Parking was easy in their lot. The interior has a lot of Argentinian elements which I enjoyed. We ordered couple empanadas and sandwiches. Cane Picante and Pollo de Chorizo Empanadas (4/5) - flaky and crispy, the filling is very full. Not overly spicy, but definitely got a little kick from the spices (slightly salty, maybe I should've ordered one spicy and one traditional instead). Milanesa de Carne (3/5) - I got a half order, the portion is pretty big, the bread was pretty good, but the breaded steak was pretty dry. Overall the sandwich tasted pretty bland without added chimichurri sauce. Choripan (2/5) - the lettuce in this sandwich looked very sad, also the sausage (cut in halves) was so small, half the sandwich was empty. Would not recommend. Not only is this one of our favorite eateries but they do a great job with soccer all year. And for FIFA World Cup we could not have picked a better spot, empanadas galore and a wide variety of drinks for all ages and tastes. They have two smaller screens for smaller corner viewing up close but they have a jumbo size screen nearly movie size to see the full length of the eating and drinking area. We had a blast especially since the US won last night against Paraguay. I've been told that you can hardly get in if Argentina is on the screen as this owner is from Argentina and has a great following in the community. My empanadas were perfect, the gaucho and the choclo both long time faves. My husband and Yelp Friend, Vivian H , liked their empanadas and beers. I elected to take the only compromised seat in the house last night, as my vision is impaired anyway, and felt they could better appreciate the better view. My friends had been here before while delivering their kid to CU Boulder and wanted to stop here to share the goodness with me. Boy, what a great find! Plus #1, the empanadas are baked! Plus #2, they have salads that you can get with their special empanada chicken filling in case you're card adverse! Parking is not a problem. There's inside and outside seating. This place was packed but the crowd moves it along pretty quickly. They have TV's for sports...get here early for a seat, this might move people every couple of hours. Rincón Argentino was such a cool spot and I'm really glad we decided to stop by while visiting Colorado. It has a fun, laid-back vibe that makes the whole experience feel unique. The empanadas were a highlight. The dough had the perfect outer consistency, and there were so many great filling options to choose from. I tried the chicken empanada and a choclo empanada, and both were absolutely delicious. Their chimchurri sauce was also amazing, really fresh and full of flavor. Saw this place on Triple D and happened to be here for a work trip. The waiter helped me pick some crowd favorites to try along with a local IPA and each empanada was better than the last. Flaky crust and well seasoned fillings along with a pretty good dipping sauce. I think it was salsa verde. Would definitely come back in the future. read more

Our first dinner in Boulder was at Rincon Argentino, and it did not disappoint. You can get both empanadas or sandwiches here, and since empanadas are hard to find in our hometown, that's what we went with. When you order, you are given a number to place on your table and wait, and a server brings your order to you. It does take awhile to prepare and deliver your order, as this is not fast food. They do have some board games and puzzles available which are great for kids or kids at heart. I had a #15 Choclo empanada and a #3 Gaucho empanada. You can order the Gaucho empanada with Beyond Meat, which is what I got, and I'm thankful for so many vegetarian options here. My husband had the Gaucho empanada with real meat, the BBQ chicken empanada, and fries . We also shared a salad because we needed some vegetables in our diet after a day of hiking. All of our empanadas were delicious. This was my first time trying Beyond Meat, and while I'm not usually a big fan of meat substitutes, it was really good in an empanada. We tried the sauces, but our empanadas were flavorful even without them. I haven't been to Argentina or traveled extensively to know if these are "authentic" or not, but they sure hit the spot after a day of hiking. read more

It was my first time trying empanadas here, so I wasn't quite sure which sauces to get, but she helped me out with that. The last time I had empanadas was in NYC, years ago, and they were absolutely delicious--this place may have topped the one in NYC because of the flaky pastry. As other reviewers have said, once you taste the gaucho empanada, the others won't taste as good. I wish I had started with either the spinach or mushroom one first, because the gaucho was by far the most flavorful. The gaucho ended up being all of our favorites. I think I'll pass on the spinach and mushroom ones in the future since they tasted a bit bland to me. Highly recommend this restaurant! I'll be returning soon! read more

We paid $49 for two sandwiches and two empanadas, to-go! I know boulder rent is high, but I'm willing to pay $49 as long as the food is delicious. Also, it wasn't very good. The bread was dry, there was one slice of tomato which was underripe. The empanadas were chewy and bland. All told it took 20 minutes to fumet our food! I worked in kitchens for a long time as a line cook, nothing being served here takes 20 minutes, unless the cooks are just sitting around. After passing this place for at least several times on some Sundays this summer (this place is closed on Sundays unfortunately), I FINALLY had a chance today to try it on a Tuesday night. This restaurant's bright red building is so hard to miss on Arapahoe (in Boulder, not in Centennial just so you know!!) That is what will get your attention. On top of that, any empanada fans will NOT (without a doubt) miss the obvious word on the exterior wall facing Arapahoe, "Empanada"!! That was what caught my attention a few months ago when I was on my way to get a facial at a nearby spa. On a Tuesday night with a very pleasant temperature, this place was steady busy when I arrived at/around a little past 6pm. The patio was pretty much filled. A steady flow of people in and out for to-go and/or pick up orders appeared to be the norm for this joint. I was warmly greeted by a young lady upfront. She was thorough in taking my order. She was not rushing at all. She asked me every single question she could think of from if it was for a to-to or if I needed a side sauce and if so, how hot the sauce should be and so forth. I appreciated this kind of conscientious gesture to ensure that I would get what I would want. I wanted something non-meat tonight. I went with No. 11 (Espinaca) and 14 (Hongos) (in other words, spinach and mushroom ones.) This place is PURELY Argentinean. Every single corner and/or wall has something that has to do with it. To the left of the restaurant, there is even a little section for "Lionel Messi" or football in general. I didn't take a close look at it but did take a picture of it so please refer to it in the photo section of this recap. Their Argentinian root/pride is reflected in so many different ways by some photos or interior decors or something else. I truly enjoyed this theme that is not deterred by any other concept(s). It took GOOD 15 minutes or more before my empanadas came out of the kitchen. This was alright. I had the kind of patience to wait to have the perfectly crispy/crusty dough-y bites. Once I got my food, I rushed to my car to savor these beauties (there was quite a way to get home in Denver from the heart of Boulder. I was hungry for dinner so I didn't want to wait until I got home to eat them.) And oh boy.....their empanadas are VERY different from other stores'. First of all, they are not shaped like the typical half-moon shapes; this store's empanadas are shaped like Sierra-style or Canastita-style. Well, at least the ones I got tonight are/were shaped like that. Whatever the case may be, they were beautifully made. And the medium (in spiciness) sauce had some chunky cherry tomatoes. And its spiciness was just right for my likings. After dipping the two empanadas, I still had some left so I literally slurped out of the little plastic cup. It wasn't just their appearances (of course not!!!) They tasted like the names say it all: spinach one with a significant amount of spinach in it as well as the mushroom one with a significant amount of mushroom in it. In other words, they are/were NOT dough-y at all. As much as I want to go and visit Argentina to taste the very best and authentic empanadas to know exactly what how authentic their empanadas can be, I truly think that this store definitely makes the BEST and MOST AUTHENTIC Argentinian empanadas in the entire state of Colorado (this might be a little exaggeration but it might not be at the same time.) Do you want to know more about this place? If you want to have an empanada party at your place, you can buy a box or tray of whatever kind of empanadas as they sell them frozen. How convenient is that??? I mean living in northeast DTC, driving to a restaurant in Boulder to get some food might be something I don't do everyday but for quality empanadas, I'd do it even if I get stuck in a horrible traffic jam on I-25 and 36. You step up to the counter to place an order. The empanadas are all named in Spanish with English explanations of ingredients. They have both meat and vegetarian options. Three empanadas is a solid meal, four for the bigger appetites. They offer chicken, beef, & pork I believe. They have a margherita, corn, & mushroom vegetarian options. They also have dessert options. I recommend the classic Alfajores. They are a special Argentinian sandwich cookie & sweet enough on their own. I can't imagine having one coated in chocolate but it's an option. You should try their iced mate tea based drink called Terere. It's lightly sweetened w agave, oranges, & mint. They also have fountain drinks, coffee, wines, and local beer. Parking directly around the restaurant can be tough so you may need to walk a lil bit from a neighboring lot in the center. read more

This place is my go-to for empanadas in Boulder. The empanadas are super fresh tasting, service is fairly fast, and the decor of this restaurant is very well thought out. These Argentinian empanadas are fluffy and delicious. I've tried a large selection of their empanadas and I always go back to their #1 the tradicional steak empanada. Looked for a more cost conscious restaurant and then read reviews and decided to give it a try. When you enter the order counter is right there and the menu is on boards above. Having never been there was not sure of the size of the empanadas and asked the was shown the size and told most people eat 3-4. Decided to order 2 each and if we wanted more could buy additional. Honestly 2.5 was nice, not over full but was satisfying. I had the Pollo and the mushroom (after some of the reviews) both were delicious and had allot of the protein/veg in each. The pastry was light and delicious. Friend had the Pollo and traditional and said the steak was tender. (We ate them quickly and forgot to take pictures). We ordered one more the Pollo Barbacoa which had a nice bbq hint but not over powering, did take a picture of this one. They offer mild, med, and hot sauces too. Will definitely be coming back. The restaurant is not large but is decorated very nicely and has pictures and artifacts from Argentina. They are about $5/each and they make almost a dozen different varieties. They also offer a variety of sauces and honestly every one of them we tried was remarkably juicy inside and probably did t need a sauce - however the chimmichuri sauce and the non spicy chicken empanadas were probably our favorite.
