    Basil Beef

A small little restaurant in a pretty crowded plaza. Might be a pain to find parking but it's worth stopping by if you are in the area. I'm not an expert on Malaysian/Singaporean food, but I am a fan of the flavors of the dishes I tried which were the pineapple fried rice and basil beef. I will definitely come back and try some other dishes.

Came here on a weekday and luckily, got the last 2 person table so didn't have to wait. There was a line by the time we were done. The service was very efficient and food comes out quickly. The staff speaks English, Malay, Cantonese and Mandarin. We ordered Roti - 2/5. I thought the roti was too dense, lacking the flakiness. The dipping sauce was flavorful but mild is spice. Bak Kut Teh - 3/5. For the price, I didn't think it was worth it. It included some pig intestines, which I'm not used to. The flavor was ok. Seafood scrambled egg chow fun - 5/5. It was flavorful and the fun was not mushy. I added some sambra for extra heat. Belacan kangkung- 5/5. I love the flavor of the shrimp paste Nasi Lemak - 3.5/5. I like the flavor of the chicken but it was little dried. Overall, I really like the quick service without being feeling rushed. I would want to try other food on the menu.

This place is tinier than Layang Layang, but it scratches the same itch flavorwise, if not better! Food is great! had a wait 10 minutes at 11am Sunday. Parking is always awful at this plaza. I think the restaurant feels tight and a little chaotic at times, especially when all the tables are occupied. Will be going back, thank you to the owner for bringing us back to Layang Layang!

FANTASTIC Malaysian spot. I was still grieving the closing of Layang Layang and I heard those chefs actually run Mari Mari now! So pleased to hear. Everything was so delicious. Portions are generous as well. My party of 4 ordered 5 dishes, about $30 per person. We had leftovers, probably enough for another 1 or 2 people. The nasi lemak was super fun to eat with all its different pieces that complemented nicely. Coffee spareribs were very fun - coffee flavor was prominent and the meat actually reminded me of boneless wings. Char kuey tiao had excellent wok hei and the noodles were springy and perfectly seasoned. Curry mee was HUGE and actually my least favorite of the 5 dishes but still solid. Gado gado was my favorite because I just love a salad especially with jicama. Would love to come back and try more of the menu!

I got the Curry Mee here and the curry is very flavorful. There are pretty big pieces of chicken in it too and a whole lot of noodle. What really surprised me though was the beef satay. It was very tender and was hardly chewy, there wasn't any weird pieces that were hard to eat. I've never had beef that was that easy to eat. The price you pay is definitely worth and everything looked like it was a decent portion.

This is a great spot if you're craving Malaysian food--the menu is decently expansive, with many classic.dishes you would expect of a Malaysian restaurant. The prices are all pretty reasonable, and the portions are reasonable as well (I'd recommend eating family-style). This spot is tucked into a plaza with decent parking space behind the main building area, though it can get very busy. I didn't find much trouble finding parking, and we were seated pretty quickly as well. I like that we received physical menus, with one page pointing out specials and signatures Our servers checked in pretty often to refill water, and our orders came out relatively quickly after ordering. The food was really good, albeit a little on the heavy side--TMI, but I'll just say it sent me to the bathroom in a bit quickly. For context, I rarely have stomach issues after eating out. Overall, I really enjoyed the food and experience overall; I plan on returning to try some of their other menu items. The roti canai was great, and the seafood scramble egg chow fun was good as well (though the eggs were slightly undercooked to my personal preference). I recommend you give it a shot!

I heard the chef fromLayang Layang Malaysia restaurant came over here. That's why I came all the way here to try. But the food quality was not as good as Layang Layang. Besides that, looooong wait at this tiny restaurant for my party of 6. The only nice experience was that we got a free Thai tea due to the loooooong wait from our server. The parking situation in this foot court was not good as well. I don't think I will come here again based on this dining experience.

"Mari mari" in Malaysian translates to "come, come" .. essentially it is a warm invitation. When you dine here, it feels like you are being invited into someone's house for some comforting home cooking. This spot just opened up a couple of months ago however, it seems like half of San Jose just found out because this place is POPPIN. We came on a Saturday at 5:20 pm not at all expecting a wait since it was early. When we arrived, it was a completely full house. We waited no more than 3 minutes and were seated by the windows. The menu offers a huge selection including a lot of Malaysian favorites like rendang chicken, hokkien mee, and chicken satay. The menu can be quite overwhelming so take your time and bring more people so you have the opportunity to try more dishes! The interior is clean and well spaced out. There is a good amount of large tables that can be assembled together to accommodate larger parties. * Curry mee- we ordered this dish with the two types of noodles: egg and rice noodles. I found the egg noodles to be more preferred in this soup because of the chewy texture and delicious eggy flavor of the noodles. The soup was slightly spicy with a coconut base. The toppings included eggplant, okra, tofu, potato, and chicken. The chicken was super tender and soft. If i were to order this again, I would ask for just the egg noodles. * Roti canai- the roti was a popular item among the tables in the restaurant. However I felt the roti itself was dense and lacking in that airy light texture. It was on the tougher side and didn't really show the flakiness roti is typically known for. I would skip it next time. * belacan kangkung- don't forget to eat your veggies! The dish itself is cooked perfectly with the strong briny flavors of the shrimp paste. If you aren't a fan of shrimp, I suggest ordering something else. For me, this is a staple dish. * char kuey teow- Honestly, this was my favorite CKT in the States that I've found so far. The noodles are soo chewy and soft with a strong wok hei essence. The flavors are great and can be enhanced with a little bit of sambal. What stands out about Mari Mari is the kind, lightning fast service we received. The server was incredibly personable and friendly. I kid you not, the food came out piping hot within just a few minutes after ordering. The portion sizes are large and great for sharing among a group of people. I am very grateful a Malaysian spot has opened on Barber Lane adding so much variety to an already Chinese food saturated street. We will definitely be back to try more items.

Can't go wrong with the Clams in Black Bean Sauce.

Mari Mari is a decent stop and small place for Malaysian/Singaporean foods. Many tables can accommodate 4 people or other arrangements can be made. Plaza gets very busy on weekends, so best to come early to find parking. Service was great and servers are detail oriented and organized. They actually worked a bit faster than most. You actually get service here. Prices on menu items aren't cheap, but it's a great cuisine addition to Milpitas, CA. My order: Belacan Kangkung $17.95, Clam in Black Bean Sauce $20.95, Rendang Chicken $16.95, Bowl of White Rice $2.95, and Roti Canai $5.95. I liked most of it. I mainly came for the yummy clams in the sauce and the veggies. Tasted great. Not too salty either. I would consider trying the Singaporean prawns or Nasi Lemak next time. Home style cooking. In general, I had always enjoyed eating Malaysian/Singaporean foods. Casual place. Nothing fancy. Honestly, the Rendang Chicken didn't taste as good here. Maybe it's the chicken because it was dry and big in chunks. It didn't get marinated long enough, so the flavor was bland in my opinion even with plenty of sauces in it. Note, there is only one piece of napkin per person at the table, so if you need more, you will need to ask. I think they should leave 2 napkins minimum per person at tables since these foods have lots of juice and sauces in them. Overall, it's still a good dine-in option. The lady server was super quick at ringing up the table bill. I still left them 20% tips on a $71.23 total bill because service worked very well for me. I am used to boxing up my own leftovers, but the male server did it for me. Hardworking people. There are plenty of delicious items to try on a future visit. I enjoyed my new lunch today.

    Signature noodle curry soup

Was excited to try this place as Liang Liang closed and this was next best thing. It looked promising as the place was packed(small place) line out the door. Roti on point my their signature dish for me was a no. The chicken was dried, egg was over fried not like the picture and didn't care for the sauce. My co worker got another signature dish and that one was good. It was a curry noodle soup dish with choice of protein which she opt for seafood. We asked if we can get the noodles crunchy for next time and he said they will think about it being an option. There is similar dish at a Thai place but the sauce here was better but we liked the crunchy noodle at other place.

Mari Mari is a new Malaysian restaurant. The inside is a bit small, but they are able to push tables together for bigger parties. The inside is also very clean and sleek. Service was extremely fast and they gave ample time to look over the menu. The flavors were pretty authentic to Malaysian flavor, but the only thing was that the spice level was not there. The prawn mee was very good with a mix of thinner and thicker noodles! Again my only complaint is that it could be a lot more spicy, but overall it is good and I recommend!

Decided to come on a whim on Friday evening. The restaurant is located on the first floor in the same plaza as Koi Palace, which is the plaza next to the big Ranch 99 plaza. There's lots of parking but on Friday evening, most of the spots were taken and you had to go way back. There happened to be one table for two left when we got there around 6:00pm, so we got seated immediately. I did see a line form outside the restaurant while I was inside. The restaurant itself is quite small but it seems they allow bigger groups as well, as there was a table of 8 people dining at the same time. The menu has your typical Malaysian cuisine, like nasi lemak, char kuey teow and hainanese chicken rice. We ordered the roti canai, prawn noodles and kari pearl noodles with chicken. The roti canai was fresh and crispy, although personally I thought it was a bit thin at parts. It comes with some curry to dip in, which was tasty but quite mild. The prawn noodle soup was very flavorful, but also mild in its spiciness, which is not what you'd expect from the bright red soup. I appreciated the fact they added both vermicelli and egg noodles (the best way to eat it in my opinion). The kari pearl noodle soup was flavorful and had a lot of toppings, like fried tofu puffs, beansprouts, green beans, eggplant, potato and okra. It felt more like vegetable and chicken curry that they made soupier and added the noodles to. Personally, I prefer a simpler dish (chicken, beansprouts, tofu puffs), but this is still a good dish, although I do think it could be spicier! Also I love pearl noodles so I'm very happy they use it in different dishes. I would definitely come back here and try their other dishes.

Came here for soft opening Malaysia restaurant. Inside is small restaurant, not much big table, but full of people line up in front. We have party of 7, wait over 1 hr for dinner! But the owners are very friendly, this is definitely a plus Regarding food, decently 4 stars or above quality. I highly recommend Nasi Lemak, and Kari noodle is must try! The Bak Kut Teh maybe lack a little bit of "Chinese herb" flavor, but still taste very good. This is on my must go list and I will come back again

Perhaps it's because of the rush of orders and addition of items I assume are not usually on their menu, things were a bit chaotic. Multiple people ordered multiple dishes and the kitchen was getting some orders confused (eg calling out an order # multiple times even though that customer had been served already). I will only review the 3 dishes my family got. Perhaps the Nasi Padang combos are better here (I see this is most commonly reviewed and popular), but sadly, they had already ran out of the Ikan Masak Lemak thirty mins after opening. Nyonya Laksa (2/5) @ $18 -- The soup was too watery and there wasn't enough of a coconut taste to it. The chili helped a little once mixed in, but there was still something missing from the soup. Mee Rebus (3/5) @ $18 -- The sauce was flavorful and slightly sweet. However, the sauce was poured on top of the tempura shrimp so I had soggy tempura. A little nit: I had to stir the noodles to make sure all noodles were coated. Hainan Chicken Rice @ $17 -- I didn't try much of this but the rice was fragrant as expected and had that chicken essence taste. Also ordered a milk tea (strong and standard) and a milo (which came in a can, I thought this would be made in house but I was wrong). This store is a stall inside a larger food court, so seating is limited. There is a public bathroom. Service was nice -- they asked if we were eating there and served us. All plates/cutlery is disposable so it's easy to pack up if you don't finish there.

The crab was tender, coated in a rich, glossy chili sauce that perfectly balanced sweet, tangy, savory, and spicy flavors. It paired beautifully with a side of rice. I'm already drooling just thinking about it and would 100% order it again in a heartbeat! Char Kway Teow (10/10): Amazing stir fried noodles. The flat rice noodles had a smoky, slightly charred flavor and were tossed with savory Chinese sausage, tender shrimp, egg, bean sprouts, and garlic chives. The dish offered a satisfying blend of sweet, salty, and umami flavors. It was comforting, flavorful, and wonderfully satisfying without feeling too heavy or oily. Singaporean laksa (10/10): This dish was similar to a Vietnamese curry with a fragrant, coconut-rich broth that delivered a balance of savory, spicy, and subtly sweet flavors.
