    Chongqing fried chicken
    Amanda N.

Came here for the first time with my family and I really enjoyed my visit. We were craving spicy and mouth-numbing food and this place delivered. Super authentic restaurant! We ordered 4 dishes (wish I remembered the specific names): Lotus root, fried rice, Chongqing chicken, and a cold chicken dish (口水鸡). All were really good but my favorite was the Chongqing chicken. It was so mouth-numbing and crunchy and hot and delicious. Lotus was crunchy and fresh. Fried rice was a good counter to the spiciness. The only thing was the 口水鸡; while the chicken wasn't dry or anything, it definitely wasn't spicy which I was sad about. Service was quick and efficient. Food came out quickly. The place was packed by the time we left. Overall, really enjoyed my visit, and I'll be sure to come back.

I've been coming here since they first opened. I miss the old Chilli Garden flavors. The foods taste so different now. I don't know if they have a different chef but the food taste ain't the same anymore. The Ching Qing fried chicken wings was not fried like it used to be and the Chong Qing Boiled spicy fish fillet wasn't spicy at all.

Chili Garden has delicious Chinese food with huge portions! Glad they are open late until midnight too. Really hits your late night cravings! The Lamb Haggis Soup was soothing and a great start to our meal. It had nice chunks of lamb tripe and guts. You can tell it has been simmered for a while. The cilantro on top added freshness as well. Loved the Honey Walnut Prawns and Sweet and Sour Pork! The meats were super crispy and tossed in sweet sauces. Such satisfying crunch! I was pleasantly surprised by the Snakehead Fish Fillet with Vine Pepper. The green bunch of vine peppers had numbing tingly spice. There's also chili peppers in it to bring more heat. It had lots of ingredients like many fish pieces, black fungus, lotus root, and vermicelli that soaked up the rich flavors in the soup. The Spicy Lamb Chop was very savory and so tender, literally falling off the bone. There's a side bowl of spices you can sprinkle on top for an additional punch of heat. It's topped with toasted sesame seeds that gave some nuttiness. The Snow Pea Sprouts was bright and crisp, stir fried with freshly sliced garlic. They gave a generous amount that was piled up like a small mountain. Great veggie dish that balanced out all our other meat dishes. Everything was served family style and the strong flavors paired well with rice. Fast service - even though we ordered a lot of big dishes, they had all the food out really quickly. Everything was steaming hot and fresh. They had a lively atmosphere with many customers arriving throughout the evening with excited chatter. I will return to try more of their extensive menu for midnight snacks!

Food is generally good , serve speed is okay at Tuesday night, not that much people. In terms of food, I am recommending: pork with smoked tofu and celery-芹菜香干肉丝;Mung bean sheet jelly with mustard-芥末拉皮; Braised Hairtail Fish-一米红烧牙带鱼; Free Range Chicken stewed with Hazel Mushrooms- 龙岗走地鸡炖榛蘑; But not recommending: Fiery Squid-火爆魷魚Spicy Chicken Pot - 干鍋香辣雞 ; Enjoy then!

The food here is fantastic, but the service really steals the show! Our server. a slender gentleman with brown hair was incredibly attentive and kept us laughing with his great sense of humor. He made the entire dining experience feel special and welcoming. We'll definitely be back!

5 stars. Highly recommended. This restaurant has the kind of consistency you would expect from a long-running local spot. The food was solid across the board, the flavors were on point, and the overall value was very good. We tried several dishes, including some newer items, and nothing felt like a miss. The new dishes were especially impressive and tasted thoughtfully developed rather than added just for the sake of being new.

The best chinese food I've had in a long time! Super authentic flavors and the dry malatang was delicious. I loved every dish that I tried. The honey walnut prawns were crispy, the combination fried rice was perfect and the malatang had great mouth-numbing spice. I love that they have a build your own malatang bar plus a traditional menu. Service was pretty quick. Lots of tables inside. They even give free tea and dessert. Would def be back

A very authentic Chinese restaurant with generous portions and reasonable prices in Milpitas. I really enjoyed everything we ordered and will definitely go back for more! * Crawfish with noodles * Salt and pepper mushroom * Sweet and sour pork * Lamb chop with spicy pickled pepper * Chiba tofu * Mixed vegetables

Spicy dry stir fry, honey walnut prawns, combo fried rice. All quite good. Deep fried taro dessert. Yum!

Food: very authentic traditional Chinese cuisines. Very suitable for big party, so you can enjoy more dishes at a time, esp other spicy fish we saw at the other table lol Service: not really responsive. The door was opened all the time, so at night time if there happen to be some heavy smokers, seats that are closer to the front will be smothered. Ambiance: big party recommended.

Why the score's so low here! I love this place so much that I order takeaways from Chili garden every week. The 锅包肉 is the best in bay area, so as 毛血旺. The pork knuckle 山城一品肘 wooow the best in the world.

I had an incredible experience at Chili Garden. The restaurant was really crowded at lunch time but we were able to sit down at a table right away. We got the mapo tofu, the green beans, and the beef noodles. The mapo tofu was SO delicious, it was numbing but not too spicy for me. The green beans were also a must- perfectly crunchy and garlicky. The beef noodles came out piping hot but they were perfection. The amount of noodles and beef were generous. The food was so authentic and spicy but just right. Overall I thought the food was so good and I cannot wait to come back here.

Thinking back on my delicious dinner at Ping's Bistro in Fremont, two things stand out for me: the…read moredelicious food, and the heat level. We ordered a variety of dishes, and all of them were fantastic. As my friend mentioned, a little bit saucier than you'd typically find in China, but still good. And we ordered everything extra spicy. The "Premium stir-fried beef with yellow peppers (with broth, Angus beef with brisket fat)" was a great saucy start to the meal, it had a nice sour flavor to go with the mild-medium heat and was very fresh tasting. "Husband and Wife Lung Slices" was good, standard and a smidge oily, but tasty. The tendons (there are no lungs, just beef and beef tendons) were cooked nicely, with just a hint of chew but tender. Again mild-medium "Stone Pot Flavored Frog" is where things started to get really good. This was one of the best dishes of the night, and the best frog I've ever had. So tender, with a nice crispy exterior, and so much flavor. This was delicious. If you've never tried frog, this is the one to get. A nice break from the heat was "Braised Pork Belly with Preserved Mustard Greens". I was told that this was a bit leaner than what you'd expect in China, but for me the meltingly soft, rich pork belly and chewy greens made into little mantou-tacos was great. It has a nice sweet/sour flavor and zero heat. Now, by far the spiciest dish we ordered was "Double Pepper Chicken Noodles". Delicious noodles, fresh chilies, great almost crispy texture from the wok, but this was firmly in medium-hot category. Everyone started to sweat and get runny noses eating this one. But the flavor was addictive. Some notes - the parking lot is big, but you may have to walk a bit. This is because this restaurant on a Saturday night was absolutely packed. I came around 6:30 and there were 9 tables on the waitlist ahead of me. I wouldn't say it moved quickly, and the area to wait in is cramped. So best bet is to come early or go wait somewhere else. They have an online waitlist that sends a text when your table is ready, so there's no need to stick around being jostled by people entering and exiting. Service was efficient. My friend ordered (in Mandarin) so I didn't follow what was happening, but the food arrived very hot and very quickly, and they nicely pack up your leftovers themselves. Overall - fantastic. I found some new favorites, had some good versions of things I already like, and while it certainly isn't cheap it was worth it. Oddly enough they added an 18% tip automatically. Fair enough, I would normally tip 20% for dinner but if 18% works I'm not complaining. Unfortunately the location isn't convenient for me and the food would be a bit challenging for most of my friends, so I probably won't be back soon. But anyone who wants some authentic and spicy and interesting Chinese dishes would be happy coming here.

If I were to sum up my meal in one word, I can do it easily: salty. Every dish I've tried today was…read moreincredibly salty. Though I prefer my food a little bit more flavorful, Ping's Bistro really shot every single flavor up. The Steamed pork belly with preserved vegetables was served first, and without a doubt, is one of the spiciest. It's a good size for sharing, but the preserved vegetables on the bottom was mushy and came in a very small portion. Though supposed to be a part of the dish, seemed to be thrown in just for some extra flavor. Though I selected mild spiciness for the Spicy Boiled Fish, it was still REALLY spicy. Maybe it's my spice intolerance, but this dish lights a fire in your mouth. Also, this dish is mala, so it numbs your mouth. Some people may enjoy this sensation, but it's a pass for me. The fish was really soft and tender though. The fish was my favorite part of the Spicy Boiled Fish. Not only there is fish underneath, it was surprising to see other ingredients like lotus, vermicelli noodles, and much more. The salted egg covered pork was extremely salty and oily. I was surprised to know it was boneless, and I felt like the salted egg crust is too thin, which let the taste of the pork overthrow any type of salted egg taste. The Country Style Sautéed Pork with Eggs and Black Fungus was again one of my preferred dishes, though it was extremely oily. I really liked the egg, black fungus, and bell peppers in this dish. The eggs and black fungus were soaked with flavor and the bell peppers balanced out the heaviness. The pork was also alright, but more on the tougher side. If you were to come to Ping's Bistro, I would advise you to order the Country Style Sautéed Pork with Eggs and Black Fungus. The floors were really sticky, but other than that, everything was alright. The water was poured messily, but I guess it's no big thing. The staff were really quiet and avoided interaction. When they serve your dish, they never wait an extra second before they leave for any questions or requests. They just drop the dish and zoom away. From my review, just remember: saltiness. I'm not convinced that I'll come back again, but I'm glad I tried it out.

You order via your phone and for each item, you can expect to pay $2-7. Ex: cabbage is $2.50~ and beef is $7.50. Our party of four had our bowls averaging about $20 per person. The portions were good for the price and you get plenty of food. I don't know the weight, but definitely was filling and I typically get 1.8 pounds at other malatang shops which can cost more. They had all the typical options of beef, lamb, spam, sausage, bok choy, Napa, etc. They loaded mine with tons of cabbage which was nice. We got the chengdu broth which is in between a dry and soupy mix. They served our food in a shallow bowl/plate. They have do have soupy base options, such as beef bone broth. I actually enjoyed the in between mix and liked that it wasn't piping hot, but that's my preference. They had a decent sauce bar as well. Stocked with garlic, cilantro, soy, vinegar, oyster sauce, chilli powder, etc. It was very clean and spacious inside. There was only one server working but he was easy to flag down if we needed something. Overall, different but great experience. Will be back!

Even their mugs are unique and give the old street vibes. Food - 5/5 we ordered some skewers, malatang and tomato beef brisket noodle soup. I said their malatang is the best and the highlight here. We ordered the mild spicy Cheng Du soup base that comes with less soup and serve on a big platter. The broth is clean yet super flavorful, tasty with a good strong hint of spice. The heat level was just nice for us as we get to enjoy the broth without the numbing/burning hot effect. That said they have several levels of spicyness including (more or less broth) options to cater to different diners' needs. Their fried tofu and quail eggs skewers are seasoned just nice and only complained is the portion is small as I was expecting more than 3pieces of tofu per skewers. But then again these are not the normal cold tofu (it's the better grade, chewy version). We ended with their rice cake. It's so good and addictive. I couldn't stop eating and have to hold myself back to save the last piece for my family. It's crunchy on the outside but super light and airy inside (unlike most other rice cakes which are usually fairly dense) And very soft and chewy. Service - 5/5 Very good, observant and attentive. They provided us with extra napkins without us having to ask for more. I will for sure come back again.
