I had the most delicious drinks of my life here. First was one made with some peanut infused rye (I think), and tasted EXACTLY like a peanut butter jelly sandwich. Initially I was skeptical, since this sounds like a peculiar drink concept. However, once I had it it I was *obsessed* - it was seriously such a wonderful balance of flavors and I wholeheartedly enjoyed each and every sip. After I finished said heavenly drank, I wanted another one. The lovely bartender recommended I try another one of her cocktail masterpieces - one that was made with Thai tea and coconut milk, that would be the perfect pairing to the pb&j drink I had just finished. I took her advice and I was NOT disappointed. It was a most magical experience. Would definitely recommend this place, and the bartenders are also super sweet and friendly. Oh, and there was a super awesome singer singing while we were there, so the entertainment was also appreciated. Love the ingredients and friendliness of the staff. They can answer any questions and it's a lovely little place! We've been here a few times since they opened and really have no complaints. The food has always bren an excellent quality and the water glasses have always been kepy full. Real food and ingredients. While the service was VERY good and the ambience was nice, the food and drinks left a lot to be desired. We ordered a toast board which had huge, thick, pieces of toast when we were expecting the usual small crostini toast pieces so you could actually taste the spreads more than the bread. The 'spread's left much to be desired. The only one that tasted good was the apricot jam. The 'pork' spread (forgot exactly what it was called) was pulled pork that seemed like it had no seasoning or sauce at all. It literally had no flavor. There were also two butters on the plate which was strange (one was some type of smoked lard butter)... both didn't have much flavor either. We also got the octopus appetizer which I will say was pretty good and a good portion. --- it is hard to cook octopus without making it chewy and this was not chewy at all. I especially liked the pickled jalapenos (I think that's what they were...). The burger was OK... it had an alright flavor but we were expecting more. The fries that came with the burger were too thick and more like potatoes or home fries. They weren't crispy like a French fry should be in my opinion. My husband got a vodka and sprite which I believe they made with their house lemon and lime soda but it tasted more like a vodka and water. Barely any lemon lime flavor and barely any bubbles. Overall, we would not return here. I know it is a new place, so hopefully they will make some improvements to their food. The service was outstanding so there isn't much improvement needed there. read more

This place is amaze balls. Epic handmade pasta with anchovies, capers, garlic and lemon butter. Superrr nice peppery green salad with a sous vide egg and paper thin sliced radish. Ridiculously delicious, out of the box whiskey cocktails. Totally unique, inventive desserts. Major points for Buffalo coming out of this cute ass little joint. Highlyyyy recommend. read more

After hearing and reading many mixed reviews we decided to give Marble & Rye a fair shot. For starters, they did a very nice job with the bar and space. Love the exposed brick wall decorated with glass terrariums. The space is fairly loud, definitely not recommended for a romantic date or someone you want to catch up with. Our server was very nice and attentive, unfortunately that is the last of the positives. The drinks: We really love craft cocktails so decided to try two different ones. We chose the Vodka and soda, which is made with vodka, house made watermelon soda and mint. It had a very strange after taste and we couldn't taste watermelon at all! The second drink was the Two's a crowd which according to website was vodka, lavender Simple, Dolin Dry, Crème de Violette, but I know the drink on the menu last night had different ingredients. It was odd that we received our first course before our drinks arrived. Nonetheless both were undrinkable, we actually told our server we did not care for them. He did offer something else, but we just choose to stick to water and he did take them of our bill. The food: We decided to split some plates to sample a variety. Our first choice was the heirloom tomato ($7) It was very tiny, about 6 cherry tomatoes cut in half, topped with mint and some sort of oil. The taste was just ok, nothing that made us say wow or fight of the last bite. Something I could easily do at home and maybe even taste better. Our next choice was the house salad ($8). The description is greens, parmesan onion tart, and tarragon vinegar. It was more tart than salad. The flavor was ok. The cold tart was a little off putting, maybe would be better if it was warmer. The greens were ok, I found the red to be a bit bitter for my taste but my husband liked it. For our third choice we got the octopus ($14), served with garlic scapes, jalepeno and romesco . This was definitely better in taste. The octopus had a nice char to it and we really loved the romesco. Lastly we ordered the egg burger with cheese ($15), unfortunately we received it without cheese but didn't care to send it back for this minor detail. The bun was very nice and there was a tiny bit of sauce on the top bun that didn't seem to add much flavor. It was topped with a single large piece of lettuce and a very thick slice of raw onion. The burger itself we ordered medium, came out more medium well. It was just ok. From the description from our waiter (can't remember actual meat, but I know there is some marrow mixed in) I was expecting something very flavorful and that it was not. It was served with french fries, they were not overly salted which I loved, but the fries themselves just didn't do anything for me, my husband actually liked them. In conclusion we will probably not be back, unfortunately we had really high hopes for this restaurant. read more

Came here based on a friends recommendation. Decor was nice and waitress was very friendly and accommodating. Our cocktails were amazing. I got the "c-student" and my girlfriend got the "dance date". The appetizer was the only disappointing part of the meal. They were out of the octopus so we got the broccoletti and the heirloom tomatoes. While both were delicious, I felt like a bit of an asshole paying for 5.5 cherry tomatoes, and 4 pieces of broccoli. It was a bit pretentious. For our entree we got the pasta special and the cheeseburger which were both phenomenal, pasta portion size was a bit chinsey. Overall, I would come back, I just would not order the appetizers. Worth coming in for the cocktails and burger alone. read more

We had Saturday night dinner reservations at 8:15pm and by the time we got there it was pitch black in the restaurant and so noisy we couldn't hear each other talk. Our reservation ranged in ages from 26-32 years old and I would consider us all very much a part of the "foodies" movement so a trendy restaurant is nothing out of the norm for us. The restaurant was out of a couple different dishes, including the steak entree and heirloom tomato appetizer. My sister and i both had the burger, which was soggy and my brother-in-law had the large pasta special, which looked like it contained about 4 noodles. Over all, for a $150 dining experience I would not recommend this place to any of my friends or family. The food lacked, the atmosphere lacked and it did not provide the experience we were looking for. read more

Our party of 6 shared our dishes and everyone loved everything from the Branzini (European sea bass), salads, small pasta plates, and the amazing burger. loved every dish. Friends love this place and selected this for dinner. Having been to the food truck I had high hopes. Ok, let me start out by saying my cocktail, The New Black was delicious. That was the highlight of my meal. Service was very good too. Atmosphere was also good. My date had the burger because of all the good reviews. He said it was average at best. We were huge fans of Sterling burgers before it closed. Now, I totally get chefs love to cook pork everything, but there are little to no options for someone who does not eat pork. The cold chicken fat on the toast board was awful. I mean it's creative use of something that I basically toss away when I make my own chicken broth after fat cools down. I guess the pork butter was eh too. Also, wish they would have had those yummy arancini's from the truck. read more

A fabulous cocktail menu and friendly bartender. Rustic decor and brisk bar business. Everything we tried was yummy. A new favorite spot.

Got there a little early and it seemed slow. But it didn't take long to become a lively vibrant place to be. With our cocktails (mixed to perfection) we had the pickled onion rings and cheese board...both rally good. We both had burgers (mine with cheese) the blended meat of the day was juicy and cooked to perfection. The fries were also fantastic. Can't wait to go back, and we will. read more

I don't see this place staying open long. Pricey, especially since nothing we had was that great. I had the octopus with "romesco" and although the octopus itself was great, the sauce tasted like tomato paste. I ordered an Heirloom tomato salad and got a small dish of grape tomatoes with dressing on them. Won't be going back. read more

I spent a lovely evening in the company of friends enjoying great food and very attentive service. We were there for the end of happy hour and had two of the bar plates of snacks: homemade chips and a chickpea snack. Both were tasty and very reasonable at only a dollar. Drinks were also discounted during happy hour. We were drinking wine, but I will try some of their specialty drinks in the future. Dinner for two of the three of us was a burger. The restaurant's meat grind was especially tasty and the fresh baked roll was also a special touch. Both burgers [egg and HR] were delicious and the fries were notably good as well. Our third party member chose to combine the fresh Swiss chard salad with the squash and goat cheese lasagna. Again, the food was exceptional. All three of us enjoyed the meal. We will be back. The only thing that I would change would be to add a tiny bit more light to the scene. It's very dim, but the atmosphere overall is pleasant and the staff couldn't be nicer. read more

We have always been huge fans of the Black Market Food Truck, back to the old days when they parked infront of Vera. We've thought that BMFT was some of the best food in Buffalo, interesting, complex and delicious. We went to Marble and Rye on opening night, and maybe this was our mistake and were hoping for some of the awesomeness of BMFT. Overall our experience was very disappointing. We went with a group so were able to try a number of different dishes as well as dessert. Overall, we found the food uninteresting, bland, not anything like the complex flavors of BMFT. Also the portion sizes were hugely varied - half chicken was enormous and enough for 2 people, but the pasta dish was the same size as some of the apps. Needless to say, we left sad. We will still go to the BMFT, but probably not back to Marble + Rye anytime soon. Maybe in a year or two after they've gotten into the swing of restaurant service. Additionally, the space was very very smokey, the ventilation was poor and by the end of the night my eyes and throat were burning and my clothes smelled like fried food. I hope this is something they can work out soon. read more

I brought my wife and son here on Dec 8th, needless to say by my 1 star rating we were not impressed. The building is trendy and the decor is cool, but the lighting for the back tables is too dim to easily read the menu and the exposed brick walls are exceptionally drafty. I appreciate the reasons they left the walls as is, but it's hard to justify when the constant cold breeze hits you. Now onto the food. I ordered the M+R Burger medium, it arrived medium well with only the very center having a slight hue of pink. The bun was overly dry and flaked off when bitten into. The other bun issue was the bun was too large for the size of the burger. The only topping I could taste was the roasted corn and over cooked burger. My son ordered the Quebec Burger, also medium but arrived the same way mine did, over cooked with the same bun issues. We exchanged bites and I couldn't taste the "special sauce" at all. Another burger another dud. My wife ordered the Empanadas, the dough was as the theme continued, over cooked and dry. It was also more like a pie crust and too thick. We love to share our dishes so you get to try more food and this one was the worst of the bunch. My wife hated it so much that my son traded his burger for the Empanadas. Inside there wasn't a hint of the apple sauce or pear. I found a couple pieces of farmers cheese and kraut but the potato overload of dryness was too much to bear for any of us. Between the three of us we managed to eat 1 of the 2 Empanadas. And it wasn't because they were large, it's because they were awful. Needless to say I've already gone out of my way to warn people off of this restaurant. If you want a good burger then go to ABV or Butera's. Our food was very disappointing based on what we heard from others. I read through the reviews before we went and because they were mixed we wanted to try for ourselves. We've tried and will never return, I think a more appropriate name for this restaurant would be 'Tasteless + Dry'. read more

My husband and I have had several dinners at Marble + Rye over the past year or so. The cocktails and bar scene is nice but the food is usually just so-so. Unfortunately, our last meal there was not just poor quality, it was inedible. There were three of us and we ordered quite a bit. The meatballs were tasteless balls of hacked up meat that were raw in the middle. The ratatouille was marketed as a fan favorite, but turned out to be a tough, layered pie of vegetables that were still partly raw with absolutely no flavor and no appeal. Two of us ordered the half roasted chicken which was absolutely disgusting. We could barely cut it with a knife and fork. Our waitress was very nice and attentive, but she didn't ask why we returned our plates barely touched. I rarely complain like this, but I am describing not just a bad meal, but an inedible meal that left us all nauseated just thinking about it. I hope Marble + Rye was just having a rough night, maybe the usual chef was on vacation? Either way, that food should have never left the kitchen. We will never eat there again. read more

We went to this place on Saturday night for the first time. Didn't know what to expect, had heard mixed reviews from friends, but we were happy that we were able to squeeze into the bar on a busy evening. What struck me immediately was the interior. It's a minimalist design with exposed brick and an urban feel that I liked very much. A couple of things that bothered us were 1: The LED glowing globe lighting. The lighting fixtures themselves weren't bad but the light they cast was stark white as opposed to a warm yellow glow so it made the space look a little austere. The other issue was the noise level. We had a lot of difficulty communicating with the bartender and she even said that she was in some strange noise vortex when she stood in certain places in the restaurant. She said the owners were working on a solution to the issue. On to the food. A friend had told me that it's a place that's known for it's burgers so perhaps we should have tried them but instead we got a half roasted chicken that they cook over an open fire. The chicken was to be served with potatoes and mushrooms. The meal came out in a reasonable amount of time and was good but not great. There was nothing stand out to the chicken presentation, and the potatoes were dry and sparse. I think I counted about 7 dried out small potato pieces on the plate. The mushrooms were equally sparse. We also ordered a $6 side of pasta that we took home for our daughter. It was described as pepper pasta which led me to believe it was like the traditional pepper pasta that is common in Rome. It was my mistake to assume that's what it would be like and it ended up being quite different. They used a wide fettuccine noodle and it was served al dente with a spattering of pepper over the noodles. It was also an incredible small portion, literally 2 forks full, but that's probably something to just get used to when ordering. The service was great and for such a busy night that's a definite plus. I will definitely try it again but I probably won't get the chicken next time around. read more
