I came on a Friday as a treat for my workers. I wanted to find a donut shop that wasn't yum yum donuts. Manley donuts is great, but I wanted to support another small business near by! I'm so glad I came across maple leaf donut. The place was packed with a line out the door at 7am. The staff were friendly and I just knew I came to the right place. They greeted their regulars by their names and were quick getting their orders prepared. They didn't have a big glass case, but they had a large selection of donuts and fresh ones in the back! It smelled like a sandwich shop, but we came in at noon, so our fault...it just stuck with me. Amazingly, at noon, they still had some selection. The nicest and most agreeable people run this place. I wanted to feed a small army of movers and instead of getting them donuts, I order a box full of their ham and turkey croissant sandwiches! There was a kindly lady behind the counter and also a woman who seemed like maybe her daughter were super welcoming and didn't flinch when I ordered the load of sandwiches. Yum yum!! I came here for the first time to try it out. While other places are usually sold out of the good stuff by 10ish, this place keeps them coming FRESH. So soft and sweet. Plus you cannot beat the price. On top of that, the employees are so kind, they even greet their regulars... they recognize regulars, even with masks on! Impressive! I recently moved back to San Jose from the East Bay after more than 20 years away from here. One morning, my sister came by and brought me some donuts from this place. I found them to be absolutely scrumptious!! I miss my old stomping grounds in the Eastbay where I used to get my donuts near the UC Berkeley campus for many years. Now that I'm back in San Jose.
