Brunch - RECOMMENDED! Patriot Breakfast is our go-to. As a self-proclaimed bacon and hashbrowns snob .... APPROVED! My sons and I love this breakfast and no longer need menus when we make it in before 2PM. Love to add a margarita or mimosa to give that true brunch feel any day. When not sitting on the patio, love the bar area with the wide, high top leather stools - so comfy! Bar deco is beautiful and TVs always have a variety of sport programming going. Wonderful breakfast. Great view of the golf course. Service was quick and attentive

We've been coming here for awhile and have seen lots of good food and friendly staff. Lately there has been a change. A new manager came on board and the good vibe has started to erode. Several servers have left and the place is not being managed properly. Case in point, bar area not cleaned off with crumbs, dirty napkins, and half finished drinks still on the table. I cleaned it off. We were waiting for the host to come back so we could be seated and the manager who was folding napkins and silverware looked over at us and kept folding not bothering to come over to assist. I've seen three employees standing by the host station talking when tables needed to be cleared off. The most disgusting is the outdoor patio with bird poop everywhere. Rarely gets cleaned up. Get your act together. read more

Second visit. Omelet overcooked and very dry. Food runner asked if we needed anything else and we asked for salsa and honey mustard dressing. No honey mustard and he never came back with salsa for dry omelet. (Last visit runner also asked if we needed anything else and asked for ketchup -same as this time never came back. I was very disappointed in the cranberry and chèvre salad entree. Do not order this. Lots of greens and stingy amounts of chèvre cheese, cranberries, and candied walnuts. I did ask for more chèvre cheese and they brought me another tablespoon of it. The services fine and the ambience. read more

My wife and I went in this week for their Monday special of Beef Stroganoff and were disappointed to be told that they were out of the Stronganoff sauce well before closing. That's also a bit confusing given this restaurant seems like a place that would make this sauce from scratch instead of just opening a bottle like anyone could do. So why didn't they make some more? Or if they do use premade Ragu style jars, just open another one! Anyway we just left and went to one of their competitors that has it every day on the menu. Also the atmosphere for this beautiful upscale restaurant with a prime gorgeous golf course view was sort of disrupted by their "trivia night" which made it feel more like an average Sports Bar. We also had come here last week for a burger, and their Spaghetti & Meatballs special. Both were okay/average, but their Cranberry Chevre salad was actually very nice. Bananas Foster dessert tasted premade and non-flamed although when we inquired, were told that it was. read more

Hiding in plain sight this newest restaurant in Surprise is killing it. While out and about and sick of the same old spots in town we drove around hoping to find something new. Located in The Grand, a retirement community Maple & Rye is doing everything right. The location is beautiful and sits overlooking the gold course. They have a great patio with misters and heaters for you to enjoy the fresh air. Right away when you walk in you are greeted with a friendly hostess. There is large bar with ample seating as well as two separate dining area. All offer a great view of outside as well. The location is bright and open. They serve breakfast until 3 which is amazing for late risers. Both the breakfast and lunch menus offer some wonderful choices. It was so good we came two days in a row. Day one we chose chicken fried steak and the banana fosters French toast. You can choose breakfast potatoes, hash browns or fruit. Bacon was crispy and the biscuits made fresh everyday and are huge! Day two again another order of chicken fried steak and I chose biscuits and gravy. Again, the cook hit it out of the park.,The gravy full of flavor and a good amount of sausage crumbles. Biscuit fluffy, large and not dried out like most places. The mimosas and bloody Mary's are popular as well. Our server was the same both days and she was wonderful. So friendly, happy and knowledgeable on all we asked. We never had to request a drink refill. Prices are great for the amount of food. We'll definitely be coming often. read more

We've been here several times in the last few months and it has become a favorite. Food is solid quality. My wife is crazy about the burgers and the Cobb Salad is my go to. Better than that is the service. They seem to hire personable, "professional" servers who are on the spot and care about their guests. A uniquely welcome differentiator these days. read more

It was great to sit outside and enjoy watching the golfers while we dined. My husband ordered the Eggs Benedict and he loved it- I had the Patriot breakfast with turkey sausage and sour dough toast. Everything was delicious! We had a nice waitress and the staff was great! read more

We finally tried Maple & Rye Once and done. We live in Grand we're anxious to give it a try. The menu is shallow. They had only one server for our area Difficult to get-a refill. Food was not very good. My opinion is once and done. Grand gave them a restaurant with a million dollars views. Grand gave them 5 million dollars as I have been told. Very disappointed. Ordered the blackened fish tacos and they were horribly over salted!!! Had to scrape off the seasoning to be able to eat them. They were that bad. Others at our table agreed and commented that their food was overly salted as well. read more

Visiting the area to see my sister, we all decided to go to Maple and Rye for dinner, last night. I love the thoroughness of their menu, a wide variety. The choice was hard, but I decided to try their meatloaf dinner. And it was very tasty and flavorful. I enjoyed the great customer service, and the view of the golf course completed my very positive experience. The place was tidy and clean. Food was decent. We enjoyed our dinner, and who knows, we might come back! LOVE the area!!! read more

Comments from our table: Big tasty homemade biscuits, burrito too many potatoes --not enough chorizo. Bananas Foster French Toast is a very sweet, but delicious . Loaded Corned beef hash skillet came piping hot but it wasn't hash. It was cubed corn beef. Still worth getting the dish with its crispy potatoes and hollandaise sauce. Will I be back? Visited Maple & Rye for the first time today...shocked there has been any bad reviews for this spot. Decor, food and service were all top notch. It's in the middle of Sun City, so maybe people are used to Denny's and jello molds. Whatever it is, if you want actually good food and a great experience, skip the Grand Slam and all you can eat breadsticks and make it out to Maple & Rye. read more

My husband and I have tried M&R several times, and each time we have been disappointed in the food. Yesterday, Sunday, we had lunch around 1:30 and we both ordered the Club Sandwich with fries. The sandwich was terrible, not only in presentation, but also in taste. Basically, it was just a bread and lettuce sandwich. Three overly thick, dried, slices of some kind of bread, thin piece of fatty ham, thin piece of cheese, one piece of bacon, big chunks of yellow-green flavorless bib lettuce, and only a dab of mayonnaise on one bread slice. The French fries were greasy and not fresh. On top of the bad food, when we arrived, we were escorted past several tables piled with dirty dishes - not too appealing. I don't know how this restaurant gets 5 star ratings! read more

Tough leaving a bad review for what was a hopeful first visit. The service was the best thing about our visit and even that could have been much better. We ended up being seated right next to the kitchen so we heard and saw maybe more than we should have. Food took FOREVER to come, my chicken sandwich was SO greasy it soaked the bottom bun with grease all the way through and the after effects was my napkin looked like I sopped up the grease but it was just from me cleaning my hands. My wife returned her French dip as she asked for no cheese and it came with cheese...then we waited again for them to fix it. Great name and beautiful space could be turned into a money making opportunity, but they will have to get on it and fix the issues with food quality and kitchen staff for sure. read more

Well the food tasted ok I guess. If you go and love grease this is the place. Definately order the Shrimp and Grits and if in the mood for pasta the tagliatelle! See pics. The food was actually not bad tasting, although my pasta needed a bit more salt. But I dont know why so much oil ! Did the chef just pour the oil from the sausage that he fried back into the pasta dish ? Or, for my wife's grits dish, the rendered oil from the bacon ? Service was ok but the single waiter had too many tables to attend to. It's unfortunate because my wife had a wonderful time during a prior lunch visit on which she ordered fish tacos which prompted her to have me come along for dinner. Went for breakfast this morning, arrived at 9:30am. Was immediately seated on the patio with a gorgeous view. Dana, our server quick to wait on us and welcome us. Took our order which was served within 5 minutes. I have had omelets from Over Easy and Biscuits Cafe and the one I had here was hands down the best. Wife had pancakes that were great as well.
