Amazing staff, hometown atmosphere & delicious breakfast. Do yourself a favor and give this place a try for some good ole comfort food.

Omelette with green chilies, the eggs were burnt or overcooked did not look well at all

I came in to get an omelette with green chilies. And this is what they served me and overcooked omelette. Everything looks burnt. I didn't eat it. They didn't bother to offer me something new. The waiter says that's how our omelettes are served. Not for this man I'm probably never gonna go back there again.

    Closed for good. 10/29/2024

Sign on the door says this place is permanently closed. Very unfortunate. Loved their food.

I swear to God, this is such an odd place! The dichotomy between old and young still perplexes me…read more The majority of the clientele is elderly....think 80+. The majority of the employees (the servers, at least) are 25 and under. Plus, this place gives off Greek restaurant vibes, like the kind where you can get a gyro, spaghetti, or chow mein all in the same place: jack of all, master of none. You think it's all going to be tasteless food, but you would be oh so wrong. Mom and dad (80+, but with it) ordered liver and onions, I got an open faced turkey sandwich, and hubs got country fried sirloin. Everyone agreed that their food was delicious. I can't speak to the others, but for me, the turkey was moist, not dry, and the gravy (which they drenched over my turkey without asking, thank you very much) had really good seasoning to it...not overly peppery like at most places. The mashed potatoes were soft, not chunky, my side of corn was very buttery and NOT served in a bowl of corn water, and my cranberries were from a can (THE BEST KIND, and yes I WILL FIGHT YOU on this). We all ordered pie for dessert and I should have went with everyone else and gotten Key Lime, but I chose cherry. It wasn't the greatest of flavor as, even though there were real cherries in it, it was predominantly cherry flavored goo. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised, and I would come here again. But only with my parents, because I think hubs and I were the only people under 60, lol. 10/2026

We both loved the food! Since it was a Sunday, I knew it'd be busy. I figured it'd be a good idea to check whether Hash Kitchen offers a way to join the waitlist online. Luckily, they do! I joined ahead of time and we arrived about 30 minutes later. While there were tons of people waiting for a table outside, our table was ready within minutes of us checking in. We were promptly seated and our waitress did not take long to take our order. I wasn't sure how long the wait would be after ordering, but it was surprisingly quick considering how busy they were. We ordered the Boujee Biscuits to share. Those were delicious! It comes with three kinds of butter, but my favorite was the salted caramel one. We also each ordered the Best F#*%ing Birria Hash and shared a stack of the Buttermilk Pancakes. Everything was so good, but I especially loved the Birria Hash. Once we finished eating, I was able to pay by scanning a QR code on our table, which was really convenient. I can truly say we had a great experience.

Even after joining the waitlist, you still have to check in with the hostess upon arrival, and there may still be an additional wait. When we arrived, we were told it would be about a 20-minute wait for a table, or we could sit at the bar. We chose the bar, but honestly, we wish we had waited for a table because the bar area felt a bit tight. The bartenders were very nice, but at times it seemed like they were a bit overwhelmed, as we had to wave them down a few times for assistance. One highlight was the live DJ--the music selection was great and really added to the overall atmosphere. For food, we ordered the Basic AF and the chicken and waffles. Unfortunately, the food temperature was disappointing. The waffles were cold, and most of the Basic AF dish was cold as well, except for the eggs. The only item that was warm on my plate was the chicken. This is definitely something that should be improved--breakfast dishes should be served hot and fresh. For drinks, we ordered a Bloody Mary and wanted to add a mini Miller High Life, but they were out of stock, which was disappointing. Instead, we opted for a Corona, which felt overpriced at $7 for a single bottle--especially when it's being used as an add-on. A lower price point would feel more reasonable in that situation. On a positive note, I also ordered the Boozy Bag drink with a watermelon slice, and it was absolutely delicious--definitely a highlight of the visit. The restaurant does offer a good amount of outdoor seating with shade coverings, which is great for avoiding the sun. Inside, especially near the bar, you can hear the music much better, but it's still audible outside depending on where you sit. Our total bill for two came to about $70, so it's something to plan for in terms of pricing. One additional suggestion: we did notice bartenders and staff handling drink garnishes--such as fruit and decorative items like cotton candy--with their bare hands. For hygiene and cleanliness purposes, it would be highly recommended for staff to use gloves or some type of protective covering when preparing drinks, especially since these items go directly into customer beverages. Overall, we enjoy the vibe and energy here, but consistency with food temperature and attentiveness during busy times would really improve the experience. Also, it looks like they offer a rewards program that requires linking a credit card--we're not fully sure how it works, but it might be worth asking about for future visits.

A friend and I visited this restaurant on 06/22/2026 at 9:00am for breakfast. The dining area was not busy with just 3-4 tables occupied and a few people at the barstools. I was seated quickly by a hostess and given two menus while waiting for my friend to arrive. Menu: it's about the size of a Sears Catalog (exaggeration but about 8+ pages front and back) and appears to serve food approved by the United Nations (food from different parts of the world). This is the type of menu Gordon Ramsey would go crazy over and shred to pieces. Portions are not larger than before but prices increased considerably! Food: I ordered a Veggie Omelette with Spinach added and Whole Wheat Toast, decaf coffee, and water. My friend ordered an all-meat skillet, sourdough toast, coffee, and water. The omelette/skillet was overcooked and dry. My friend sent back his toast because it was served with a MOLD SPOT on it. Our server was not swayed by the mold and replaced it. No apologies or contact from the managers. By this point, we just didn't want to finish what we ordered and left. Dining room is well lit and spacious. Lots of available seating but could not help that their "Grand Opening" sign has been hanging outside for WEEKS. Servers are slow and never seem to be pleasant (more melancholy). Overheard one server speaking with some guests at a table using profanity. This review was based on my individual experience. This used to be our favorite breakfast spot but clearly is no longer the case. Having watched the gradual decline in quality and service, I am no longer inspired to spend my money at AZ Diner.

As a Certified Chef and Serve-Safe Manager I always look at eateries from different points of view…read more This was our first time eating at JiMichael's. First: Is the environment welcoming? In this case, we barely got in and were greeted right away by Dawn and asked did we perfer a booth or table. Then were seated at a clean booth and the seats were clean as well. My only negative take away is that the booths are a little tight. Full disclosure; I am 6'5" @ 280lbs. Second¹: Amy was our server and got to us quickly. It was obvious that this was not her first rodeo. She was very clear with answers and made additional offers to compliment our choices. Amy never let our water or coffee get low. We were not her only customers. She brought the complete order at one time and it was exactly as ordered. Third: The food. Everything was cooked as ordered. The portions were not lacking. If you leave this restaurant hungry, it's your fault. The only negative take away was that the food could have been a bit warmer. Personal preference. Fourth: Atmosphere. Even though it was busy, the noise level was quite low. Folks of all ages were present. I observed the greeter, Dawn wiping tables and chairs as people left. She did not just wipe around the condiment station, she moved everything so that she could do a complete wipe down. She even wiped down the side edges of the tabled and wiped off the chairs. This brings me to my fifth point of view. Cleanliness- Bathrooms will tell you a lot about the staff. Both the men's and woman's bathrooms were immaculate and well stocked. I was impressed with the soap dispenser having real soap instead of the cheap foam. I highly recommend JiMichael's for the whole family or a luncheon or special occasion dinner.

A Midwestern Classic Done Right at Jimichael's…read more I found Jimichael's while searching for "breaded pork tenderloin sandwich near me," and I couldn't have been happier. The restaurant is celebrating its 30‑year anniversary at this location, and the owner is rumored to be from Chicago, which makes sense--the place feels very much like a classic Midwestern eatery. I went with my wife and a group of friends, one of whom is originally from Detroit and was craving an "Iowa Porker" (a breaded pork tenderloin sandwich). He and I both ordered it, and it was excellent--perfectly breaded and served on a bun with lettuce, onion, tomato, and mayo. Absolutely delicious. The restaurant was clean, the staff was exceptional, and drink refills were constant without ever having to ask. My wife ordered the chef's salad, which was fine but not outstanding. My friend's wife ordered a burger and fries, and that was spot‑on: thick, juicy beef on a deli bun with a full garden of toppings. The fries were crispy, not greasy, and definitely noteworthy. We will absolutely be going back. They also serve walleye for their fish fry, the menu is substantial, and they offer specials for all holidays.

A West Valley Gem Packed with Flavor, Charm, and Plenty to Discover…read more If you've ever driven past that bright pink building on the corner of 101st and Grand Avenue in Sun City and wondered, "What's in there?" let me save you the suspense: it's the New York West Bakery, and it's absolutely worth pulling over for. In fact, I've made the hour-plus drive each way more than a dozen times just to visit. Whenever I find myself anywhere in the West Valley, this place is a mandatory stop. I've taken countless photos of my visits because there is always something new to see, taste, or admire. Under its new ownership, New York West Bakery has evolved into a wonderfully unique fusion-style café. The menu is delightfully unexpected, featuring everything from traditional breakfast favorites and homemade tamales to incredible Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwiches. If I can dig up some of my photos, I'll add them because these sandwiches deserve their own spotlight. The transformation isn't limited to the menu. The Interior: Spotlessly clean. During one recent visit, I watched an energetic staff member carefully mopping the floors and making sure everything looked perfect. It's obvious they take pride in the place. The Exterior: They've added a charming outdoor patio complete with colorful umbrellas, comfortable seating, and newly planted trees that will provide even more shade as they grow. It's a fantastic addition and makes for a relaxing place to enjoy a pastry and coffee. The Food: Where This Place Really Shines When New York West Bakery gets it right, they absolutely knock it out of the park. Their fruit tarts are hands-down some of the best I've had in years. They're fresh, beautiful, bursting with flavor, and surprisingly affordable for the quality you're getting. Best of all, everything is made from scratch, which shows in every bite. The newer savory menu items are also a huge win. Their Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwiches deliver serious value. They're enormous. Honestly, one sandwich is big enough to share and still leave you feeling satisfied... or at least leave just enough room for dessert. And speaking of dessert, I have to mention those fruit tarts one more time. They're that good. My wife Lucy absolutely loves them. In fact, "love" might be an understatement. If fruit tarts had a fan club, she'd probably be the president. New York West Bakery continues to grow and evolve, and it's exciting to watch. Between the friendly atmosphere, expanding menu, beautiful patio, and from scratch-made baked goods, it's become one of my favorite hidden gems in the Valley.

Update: June 2026 The new owners have expanded into more of…read morea café than a bakery, and a fusion one at that since you can get Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwiches, tamales, and traditional breakfasts. I love that they added outdoor seating with cheery umbrellas and have planted trees to provide additional ambiance and shade, although the highway noise will always be problematic. The inside is spotless and while I was there a friendly staffer was keeping it that way by energetically mopping. Sadly, the St. Joseph's pastry I had had a tough not flaky or crisp shell, but the ricotta filling was light and good. I was so looking forward to the poppy seed bread but when I got it home and cut into it, the filling was not spread out throughout the bread and there wasn't much of it. The bread itself was not tear apart tender, but dry. I saved it by slathering butter on it and lightly toasting it, but that shouldn't have been necessary. For the prices, everything should have been top notch or marked down and labeled as day-olds. I'm curious about the breakfast and lunch café options, so I'll probably go back to give them a try, but note that the prices have increased by more than a few cents per item since the 2025 someone else posted, so check for the latest. Maybe they are trying to do too much and should limit the variety and be known for a few super delicious items that are always fresh and superior to what you could get in a supermarket. Having a few signature items and being the go-to place during special holidays would help define them, and please, please FRESHNESS is crucial--maybe the products are just drying out more because we're in AZ, but I'm not the only one mentioning dried out items.
