I had eaten here before with a group of 10 or so. They had no record of our reservation but got us seated fairly quickly. Food was good if I remember correctly. Took hubby there on Memorial Day. What a difference. He always orders a hamburger & fries. I decided on Bolongnaise. Hamburger came with onion rings, not fries. I stated that to the runner and he was willing to make it right but hubby doesn't like to make a "fuss". My dish was huge in quantity but it stops there. The sauce was sadly lacking in quantity and seasoning. I had to add salt to get some taste. The bread was grilled dry. I've never had that. I would have said something but we were never checked on. At the end of the meal and we got out check we had been billed for onion rings we had never asked for and got by mistake. By asking about the dry bread, I was told I could have said something and they would have fixed it any way I desired. Well great---if someone had checked on our table I would have. Then our server hovered while I filled in the tip. Choices were given me automatically but I wanted to go lower for a custom tip but felt very uncomfortable doing that with her looking on. We had the most amazing brunch at Maple & Rye! Everything was so delicious from the Benedict to the Reuben and Bacon Wrapped Dates...and the Banana Fosters French Toast! The atmosphere was airy and bright with a beautiful deck overlooking the golf course and the service was on point. We'll definitely be visiting again. read more

Been here a few times but this past time was a disappointment only because of the food. I ordered avocado toast and there was very little avocado which was spread thinly on the toast. The side was a handful of greens undressed therefore dry with a few pickled onions. The avocado was topped with an overcooked poached egg. The service was friendly. Bartender took 15 minutes to take an order for and make a martini with an almost empty bar. Hostess forgot we were waiting for outdoor seating (25 minute wait). Once seated, no server for 10 minutes. Then forgot to bring water as requested. My bolognese was bland and tasteless (Chef Boyardee?) Ambiance was great as was the noise level (quiet). Visit for breakfast: Seated quickly. The restaurant is clean and spacious. It was early in the morning with few diners. The breakfast was conservatively "skimpy" with a serving of hash brown potatoes that I could easily cover on my plate with my cell phone. The Eggs Benedict were served on English muffins that were, sadly, not toasted. Hollandaise sauce was very good. A second cup of coffee is not automatic as we waited for the server to arrive and then left to return with the coffee pot. It just seems to me that a restaurant that has had such a checkered construction history could deliver a breakfast that would impress everyone. The decision for the new owners is simple: make the restaurant the restaurant of choice for the residents of Surprise or become just another mediocre dining experience. This restaurant sits in the middle of The Grand retirement community with approximately 18,000 residents. This restaurant should have been a "WOW" restaurant, but it turned out a major disappointment......just another restaurant that fails to impress. Service is good and the servers were smiling but the dinner menu is not good! The fish was over breaded and the other 5 people we were with said their meal was either dry or had no flavor. Another issue we had was they were mopping the floor around us while we were eating getting ready to close at 7:00 and they don't close until 8:00. read more

First time there for dinner was disappointing. Mediocre food, slow service. Everything controlled by computer created a chilled atmosphere. Finally had a chance to try this restaurant for breakfast, the restaurant is very nice with a great view. I ordered the eggs benedict with thick cut ham and crispy hash browns. I received eggs benedict with thin cut ham, a hard boiled egg on top of each English muffin and barely cooked hash browns. The flavor wasn't bad but very disappointing. My wife ordered the buttermilk pancakes, scrambled eggs & bacon. She received pancakes that were a cross between a crepe and a pancake. They were very thin and the bottom was very hard so the pancake peeled away from the bottom of the pancake when she tried to cut them with her fork. The eggs and bacon were alright. Service was fine and they did not charge for the pancakes. On a scale of one to ten, I give them a 4.5. read more

We were a party of 4 Monday April 1. Drinks are very expensive, mac n cheese for $9.99 was "runny" and tastes like it came out of a box and a very small portion. Pasta dish was undercooked and the list goes on. Way to bright inside with no view of the pond or golf course. Disappointed since their other restaurants are much better. Went for breakfast. Eggs, one sausage link, one piece of toast and hash browns. Waited 20 minutes for the food. The eggs were the only warm food on the plate. Lunch was excellent. Tasty French Dip with fries. My Mom had the spring salad with apples & walnuts. All was delishish. The bread pudding was also great. Service was top notch. We have been looking forward to the opening of Maple and Rye. It did not disappoint! We enjoyed the totchos (definitely shareable), Cajun mussels, pork osso buco, tiramisu bread pudding, and the bananas foster. Everything was excellent! The flavor profiles blended very well. The wine list is not overwhelming and all the bases are covered. Portion sizes were appropriate. Our server, Hannah, was very attentive. Other than a small timing issue with appetizer and main course coming out at the same time, not unexpected on day 3, we feel these timing issues will be worked out. Looking forward to our next meal, breakfast. read more

I'm actually torn with my review as I know several of the residents rave about the place! They did a great job of the remodel the second time after the fire. I live here so I see the views all the time but for the short timers it's impressive! We went for dinner on Friday night and then Breakfast on Sunday. The dinner is pretty pricy for just two people as my husband has a chicken sandwich and I had a cup of soup and a salad. Beer and iced tea $52.00 without tip! The server was very good as it looked like there were only two for the entire dinning room (that used to be the patio). Sunday for breakfast we waited for about twenty minutes as they were seating four top groups some with only three people and they arrived after us, and the reservations. When we were led to the table the room was half empty ! So that indicated shirt staffed and no bus people to assist. I ordered the two eggs Patriots breakfast, crispy bacon, breakfast potatoes and no white toast so I had to have a biscuit. I know that this company is owned by Haymaker restaurants too and I thought I was at The Haymaker! Eggs were not cooked the way I wanted, bacon was only two small slices and very greasy. Good choice on the breakfast potatoes!! They were deep friend and crunchy! The husband ordered the Hash dish which wasn't really corned beef hash but little squares of beef with potatoes, cheese and scrambled eggs all mixed together. He just commented he ordered the wrong thing. That's what we say when we can't say anything else. $38 excluding tip. Coffee cups were very awkward and very heavy for me as I have slight arthritis in my hands and fingers. The cup handle was very small! I had really high hopes for this place bc it seemed like a cute little place to get some brunch. Boy was I wrong. We reserved a table in the chefs seating meaning we could see the kitchen and when the food comes out. When we got there the hostess informed us there was no one assigned to that area and they may have to seat us elsewhere. No problem at all. Then she say us in the chefs area anyway, little weird. The "server" came over and we ordered our food, including an appetizer. We informed the server that someone at our table had a severe nut allergy and she informed us that they could not guarantee that there would not be any contamination. Well that's concerning. Over 50 min later we got all our food at the same time. The appetizer was stone cold, and was under cooked, as well my biscuits in my biscuits and gravy were also under cooked. My friend got the pancakes, and they honestly weren't that good at all. During this time a food runner, junior, checked on us more than our "server". When I said something about it, I was informed that she was not a server and was in fact the bar tender. We then had to wait another 40 minutes after finishing our food to get the check. In this time I was watching the kitchen and realized that they were not wearing gloves, not one of them had a hairnet on (they had hats but some of them had their hair sticking out of the hats) and there was one guy who had a longish beard that did not have a beard net on. I also witnessed a server or food runner walk up to the food and touch it with her bare hands, I'm assuming to check the temperature, after walking around the restaurant and touching other things. Flat out unsanitary. They did take some of the food off the bill, thank goodness. Safe to say I will not be coming back. read more

I'm leaving three stars for the view! We sat outside at a small table, after being told by the hostess that we could order drinks from these specific tables. After about ten minutes and no server around we decided to go up to the bar, it would have been nice if the hostess had mentioned that we needed to order from the bar ourselves after all she did seat us and give us a drink menu. My husband went in and ordered a sparkling wine for me and an espresso martini for himself. He said when they poured the wine it was flat and he asked about it, another bar tender said they don't pour from old bottles with flat wine so he opened a new bottle which was great otherwise my wine would have been totally flat. We had our drinks at the little table which was nice and my husband decided he wanted dessert, he went in to order a dessert from the bar and he was told he could not take a dessert to our table, he would have to eat at the bar. We thought this was odd so he didn't order anything, they lost $$ money by this little rule, not sure why they couldn't just give him a dessert the way they did with the drinks. This restaurant is pretty and the view is awesome but definitely has some hiccups. We did not eat so I cannot comment on the food. I did look over the menu online and it looks like mostly the same standard stuff. Hopefully they will add some healthy plant-based options for people who like to eat well. Restaurants need to get with the times, not everyone wants to eat animal fat. Hopefully this restaurant works out the problems, adds a few more healthy plant-based options and thrives! once seated at the table it took over 45 minutes to receive our food and that was just the start of a bad experience. the food was not prepared as requested, one guest received a rare steak when the order was for well done. the rest of the meals were below average and pretty tasteless. we discussed with the manager on duty and all she could do was try to defend the meals. no apologies or comment on our displeasure for the meals. the dessert was horrible and none of us attempted to finish the brownie which was like cold sawdust. a really poor manager that went along with a meal that would rate about a D on a report card. won't be going back. read more
