We can see why this place is popular. The food came out fast on a Sunday at 11:30 am. Booths and tables were cleaned quickly. Friendly attentive staff. The burgers were just how we like it, grilled crisp and juicy but not pink. It was a huge burger and deliciously assembled with fresh crisp lettuce, onions and thinky sliced tomatoes, mustard, and ketchup. Note to ourselves to remember next time to order the side of ranch dressing with the meal for an extra 50 cents for the great onion rings to top it all off. Very unassuming, casual quick place to grab a bite to eat. There's parking outside and you order at the counter right when you walk in. There's seating on the inside along with a few bar seats. We ordered the side of fries and the classic burger with the brisket sandwich. You can pick how you want your burger cooked - either pink or not pink, they don't go by medium rare/medium/well done etc. we also ordered a beer ($4.85) with the burger. All our food came out within five minutes and the place was decently busy for a weeknight. I've been coming here for years, but after a long time away, I finally came back--and man, it's still just as delicious as the first time. I got the cheeseburger cooked pink, with half onion rings and half tots, plus a side of ranch. Had it cut in half--everything came out perfect as usual. How have I not written a review for Maple and Motor yet? Guys, if you want a phenomenal burger, you have to go here. My partner and I decided to visit this place after we learned they were on an episode of Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. And boy were we glad we gave them a try. Pretty simple, hole in the wall place but you will not be disappointed. Some of the best burgers not made at home that we've had in awhile. And the size? In retrospect we should have shared one (which we have in more recent visits). They are huge, and add an order of tots or cheese fries, you'll be rolling out of the restaurant. Pretty simple menu, and the burgers come 2 ways (pink or no pink) but I promise whatever or however you order you will be happy. Get there soon, in fact now I feel a weekend visit coming. read more

The restaurant is small and there were plenty of people inside. the atmosphere was pleasant and the staff ok. We ordered burgers and I had cheese fries on the side, while the Mr. ordered tots without the cheese. It was pretty good size meat but a little on the greasy side. The bread is super big. I had to use s fork and ended up eating a lot of it without the bread. The cheese fries were pretty packed together and stuck from the cheese. Soooo delicious. Definitely has sticky tables but i think that played a role in how tasty it was lol. They have jalepano ketchup and siracha ketchup as well. Absolute worst experience. We don't know about the food because we had to leave before we ordered. We arrived right at opening, on a Sunday, with our children. We sat our kids down in the EMPTY dining room (after a long race downtown) while we ordered, but aparently that's against their absurd rules. Our children were asked to get up, even though there was only one couple ahead of us. EMPTY RESTAURANT. Forever, until the end of time, we hope the absolute worst for this place. There are so many lovely burger joints in Dallas - we especially love Sky Rocket Burger, who appreciates their guests and would never angrily approach children. Rodeo Goat is awesome. Apparently this is a bit of an institution. There was a long line and seemingly no open tables yet a sign inside urging patience and guidance that the table shall reveal itself in time. One sure did. People were good about eating and moving out. I got burgers, fries and the homestyle shake. The shake was more like ice cream, not very shakey. The burger was huge and that might be an understatement. Fries were prepared with the respect they deserve and performed with all the grace a greasy piece of potato can muster. I'm going to spend a little bit of time on the burger itself now. There were a few ways to customize it, and in my case I chose jalos. The burger was huge and very homestyle. I liked it. What more on the burger? I did say I would spend a LITTLE time on it. Anymore and it would not be little, it would "some" time territory. Anyhoo, good experience here. Solid burger. The young lady/girl taking our order had a totally snotty attitude (ironically the restaurant has a sign that reads: "be nice!"); she never said hello or thank-you (the bill for two burgers, one order of fries and a soda was $32, so very expensive). The male mgr harassed a female patron who had eaten her meal and was working on her computer - apparently he didn't like her sitting there after she had eaten. We watched as he approached another table of seniors didn't pay attention to the sign that reads: "Order first, then take a table" (the restaurant was pretty much empty) they were obviously offended by the Mgr's comment - and they walked out! Overall good food (BUT EXPENSIVE), and crappy customer service. Would I return; only if someone else was paying! If you want to take your 1/2 eaten item with you for left overs - they DO NOT HAVE 'clam-shells' to take your burger with you. Jake's is a HARD no! We ordered single burgers and fries. Fries were dark brown and cold. We sent them back for hot ones which came out hot but still really dark. The burgers were wafer thin and full of fillers so it was like eating a piece of bread between two buns. There was a little dollop of mustard in middle of the large bun, one small tomato slice, and lettuce that smelled old. We live in the Sparkman neighborhood and were excited to get a new restaurant in our otherwise restaurant desert, but we won't be going back to Jake's after such a lackluster meal. read more

This unassuming dive bar looking burger joint is worth the hype with and with a couple little tweaks could be on some top national burger lists in my opinion. The walk up ordering is perfect to get that much needed advice from the experts and kept it basic with a cheeseburger and fried bologna sandwich with tots on the side. The problem with these becomes apparent when you take your first bite and the lettuce falls out like a waterfall. Why no nice lettuce leaf's or simply more mayo and mustard? Maybe I'm just picky or I just want the perfect burger but it makes a difference. Other than that the tots were hot and fresh out of the fryer as they should be and delivered to the table. Service needs definite improvement!! They were dismissive and rude. My husband is disabled and when we entered I tried to have him sit while I would place our order. Before you go you need to know they have a LOT of rules. This is counter service, not table service. You can't order at the counter if your entire party isn't there yet. You can't take a table until you've placed your order either. The overall vibe isn't exactly friendly, but not surly either. We were there on a Mother's Day Sunday at noon and the place was hardly packed, lots of servers clustered around the area where you place your orders, looking a bit bored. The choices are pretty simple, a bit like the Billy Goat Tavern in Chicago...hamburger or cheeseburger. They rattle off a lengthy list of toppings quickly. It's best you look at the toppings list before you're order as you'll never understand or follow them. They ask if you want pink (rare) and whatever else isn't rare. Then it's off to pick your table. I don't recommend them for larger groups as the table spaces are pretty limited. The baseball caps hanging from the ceiling is their attempt at "flair" or uniqueness but it gave me a yuck factor as they'll be gathering dust and grease. Not exactly something I want dangling over me or my food. I ordered "pink" or rare and instead got a fairly dry medium to well done burger. Not at all what I wanted, but the bearded hipster who seemed to be the manager didn't look that friendly and certainly never came over to ask how our food was. The burger was decidedly meh...as mentioned, not juicy, overcooked to my liking and the lower bun essentially disintegrated from all the toppings. The Onion Rings (my side) were OK. Not the best but not terrible. If you're looking for a good burger cooked to your liking I'd suggest Jake's, Beck's or Chips' instead. The service was pretty indifferent, not very friendly...they seemed like they were trapped in hell and it was something they were enduring rather than genuinely being happy to be there. My son wanted to come here after we left Parkland for a doctor visit at 2:45 on 4/20. There were several cars in the parking lot for that time, but I noticed most people were just running in to pick up their food. When you walk in, it seems more of a bar that sells food, but it really is a restaurant. Very casual and small dining area, but the chairs were comfortable and the tables were constantly being cleaned by the staff. They even walked by often to clear trash & stuff. Very friendly. I ordered a chicken sandwich and the chicken was so moist! The bun was toasted and it had lots of lettuce which I can never seem to get anywhere else! The tater tots - don't go there!! They were the best I've ever had - they were very lightly salted and I didn't even feel the need to put extra salt on them. My son ordered a burger and it looked so juicy. He said it was perfect - his words! I took most of my tater tots home because they were so good, I just kept wanting to eat them and not my sandwich. When I got it home and heated it up later for dinner, everything heated up fine. Definitely will be back!! read more
