My friend and I dined here for an after work snack one day, so we only had some starters, but boy, they were Good!! The decor was elegant and stylish, the music was at the right level so I could talk to my guest and not have to talk over people or loud beats. I was very excited to try this place and was delighted when we were sat in the bar at a luxurious booth. Our service was good and we never found ourselves looking for anything more :) We started with the Salmon tartare, and it was a lovely combination of capers, egg, and smoked crème fraîche. With such a large portion, I was still able to taste all the distinct and rich flavors. The dish was easy to share and not too salty at all. I also loved the waffle chips- they were crispy and light, not oily or burnt. Of course I had to try the oysters!! The half dozen order was So Fresh, Cold, and Incredibly meaty! The sauces pared wonderfully, but were not really necessary-which is why I will come back for more! The King Crab Salad was something new for me, as I am not a fan of grapefruit, I was hesitant to keep the grapefruit supremes on it, but decided not to mess with the recipe. The avocado was perfectly ripe, smooth, and buttery, while the portion of citron vinaigrette was tangy and just right, spread nicely on the bed of butter lettuce, not overdressed at all. The Prime beef meatballs were Fantastic and hearty- the ratio of caramelized tomato sauce to meatballs was perfect- the garlic bread was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside (I asked for more), and soaked up the parmesan-sprinkled sauce quite nicely without crumbling or falling apart. The meatballs did come out warm and not hot, but our server took it back without complaint and returned it hot and that made all the difference. Because this was supposed to be a 'snack' before dinner, I took leftovers home and I Loved the To-go packaging and bag!! Everything was separated and placed in a sleek black bag, which I kept!! So, I'll start this by stating in all of our other visits to Maple & Ash the food and service have been excellent. However, on this visit.. not so much. We went for a Sunday brunch about 3 weeks ago (later I'll explain the delay in writing this review). We come here 3-6 times a year for celebrating various occassions. We were seated on time at an acceptable table. Our host greeted us and explained the menu. From there, it went downhill. We ordered drinks and our entrees. The drinks took an excessive time to come out, but we were engaged in good conversation so it was okay. We continued to wait until we finally received our entrees. I had the crab benedict and it was almost cold. I could tell it had been sitting a while, based on the temperature and how it looked when they placed it in front of me. Someone else had the same and it, too, was not at temperature. Another person had the trufle omelet; it also wasn't hot. I waved down our host to order a drink.. it took well over 10 minutes for me to get my drink. When we needed more filet the host was unable to be found. I had to ask 2 other servers, plus wait well over 5 minutes, before I finally got him. Again, it was an excessive wait for a minimal amount of food to be brought out; particularly for a table of 6 people. Now.. here's why the delay in posting this review. I emailed the General Manager, James Pyles, about our poor experience. I sent him a 3 paragraph breakdown of our experience and asked him to contact me. This was on September 28th. I heard nothing from him by October 2nd, so I sent him another email. Mind you, the subject line was "Poor experience this past Sunday". I say that to say that when he sees this in his inbox he knows it's a customer complaint and should warrant immediate attention. Needless to say, I have still heard nothing back from him. The experience was unfortunate and I completely understand that we are in times where staffing is challenging. However, we pay a premium for a finer dining experience and expect some level of attention. Even worse, and here's the real telling piece, I have heard NOTHING from them. We dropped over $800 on brunch and not even the courtesy of a response to my email?? And, as I was leaving, I told the host the issues (I had asked him for the General Manager's card). He didn't even offer an apology. I hope that Maple and Ash can raise their bar back up to their standards we have grown to expect and enjoy there. Absent of hearing from them, I don't know that we will be back there anytime soon. Given how hard we all work for our money, there are other restaurants that are willing to listen to their customers and respond! read more

The squid and octopus appetizer is a must! We finished every bite. It was unexpectedly tender. Over the course of dinner I had 3 cocktails: Ma'am I am tonight - vodka based, light with a hint of sweet. Dream of la Playa- tequila based, sweet, salty and super flavorful. It reminded me of the Mexican candy Vero mangos. 131 Whammies- herbie, light and delicious! A5 Japanese loin is the best steak I've ever had and I am a Texan. It's fatty, flavorful, rich and oh so tender! The bone marrow was one of my favorite things I had during this dinner. They are served in hot bones covered with lots of capers and dill. The white truffle ricotta agnolotti were like baby pillows of joy that exploded in your mouth. A super rich and flavorful dish we happily ordered as a side. The halibut was good, but super buttery. For a fun presentation they poured a melted butter and broth mixture over the fish. Which made the fish and veggies hot and tasty to start but incredibly buttery as everything continued to really soak in the broth. Creamed spinach was okay. Maybe it wasn't exactly what we were craving but everything else we had ordered was so delicious we really only tasted it. A flavorful dinner in a beautiful atmosphere with great service. read more

I love a place that is beautiful hip and trendy but yet has great service and great food. Maple & Ash is on point. Hubs and I got came during their soft opening and were very impressed. Downstairs is the bar area... when you come in you are escorted to the elevator which takes you to the 2nd floor dining room. The dining room is beautiful. The seating, the decor, the chandeliers... so perfect. The dinner was candlelit- which was a nice intimate touch- perhaps make the candle sticks shorter though to avoid a bad situation lol. Their menu is so cute and fun to read lol. We started with the smoked foie gras, which was great with the strawberry preserves. The bone in filet mignon was delicious!! I would skip the roasted bone marrow- it was a disappointment if you're a huge bone marrow fan like myself :( You must get the baked and loaded potato. It is a must. We enjoyed all of the drinks, appetizers, entrees, and desserts, and everyone I was with thought it was a really great dinner. However, we were all left with very sour tastes in our mouths when we were asked to leave for another reservation. I thought that the manner in which they told us was rude and we were also given no warning. It would have been nice to know that at the beginning of the meal that there was a time limit or even a 30-minute heads-up. Unfortunately, soon after we were done with our desserts, we were escorted to the bar and offered one complimentary drink (where there wasn't enough seating available for the nine of us there). Honestly, just disappointing because we spent a significant amount of money and had a time limit. My colleagues and I were lucky we didn't have a client at dinner with us because that would have been an embarrassing situation. read more

This was a incredible experience. The service the food was amazing. Let's start with entering the restaurant You really enter a beautiful bar. It was not busy at all. But it was stunning. We went up stairs and the lobby was awesome with a wine cellar behind the check in desk. Then walk past the open small kitchen with a wood burning grill. Entering into a gorgeous gothic dining are with live candles burning everywhere. Dining room is dark with candles the gothic feel is carried out in leather, suede and metal work on window. Our waiter greeted us with a cucumber seasonal martini. The menu is focused on wood grilled steak and seafood. We had a table of 5 so we ordered a mixture of salads and apps to start. High lights were the octopus and calamari. Not breaded. Amazing dish. The grilled ceases. I'm a sucker for a grilled salad. But the 3 meat dry aged meatballs amazing. Cooked over wood. The mains. I went for the pork and it was an amazing experience. Pork porterhouse with truffle aju and bone marrow. It was frigin amazing. The waiter pulled the marrow over the pork poured the aju. Oh my. Then said. Save the bone we will use that as a vessel for bourbon. Oh my. We shotva video of it. Fun Other mains ordered chicken, fillet, and another pork dish. WOMEN CAUTION me and my girlfriends went to this place to have some cocktails and fun. a man came up to us. asking us to get in his car. we told him no many many times, and he stayed our table. one of my friends asked for him to be escorted out. instead, an EMPLOYEE came to us, telling us that he was a regular and a really nice guy... eventually he left. but i will not be coming back. My fiancé was in Chicago a couple months ago for work, came here with some friends and had a great experience. So much so, we planned a weekend getaway around coming back. It did not disappoint. Megan our server was FANTASTIC. She was attentive, friendly and just a great time all around. She made great suggestions and made sure our orders were perfect. She went above and beyond, making sure that we had everything we needed and then some. Food came out quickly, we ordered a dozen oysters and tuna tar tar to start. I can honestly say that I may have had the best meal I have ever eaten at this place. Eating here is a great experience. Especially if "You don't give a F*@k." The place is pricey, but I mean come on it is Michelin starred. I do not like oysters, at all. They gross me out and look like something you would hack up while you had a cold. But, holy crap this place changed that. Maple & Ash offers the best dining experience with the "I don't give a F*!K" if you are willing to pay or it. It costs $155 a person, and the whole table has to do it. The waiter and chef takes care of you and all of your courses and sides are taken care off. When we did it, it included oysters with caviar, house-made pasta, clams, king crab legs, and prawns fire cooked, wedge salad, filet, bone-in new york steaks, whipped potatoes, a build your own sundae, and some extras. When we sat for our reservation we were offered a complimentary gin, rum, and lime cocktail too. The staff were great and very friendly. This place does have go for a younger, hip vibe. Almost like a club even as the music can be a bit loud, but then again, it was a Saturday night. Business casual is fine, you do not need a tie or jacket. Unfortunately I was not able to eat here. I stopped in and wanted to dine for a late lunch. Just to treat myself no special occasion and was greeted with an attitude by the hostess. I brushed it off, maybe she has been dealing with a bad day. Was shown a table, asked for a better table only because of it being so close to the valet where many other people were standing and was denied. So I made no problems, told them I changed my mind. The best place to eat I've eaten in the past year. My girlfriend and I eat here every couple of months, after we've had a few bad customer service experiences, because you feel more welcome here than you do in your own home. I can't imagine how many patrons they see every week, but a few of the staff STILL remember us by name. The food is on another level. I cannot attest to the steaks that cost hundreds of dollars, but everything I've had here is perfectly made. The first time we came we got the IDGAF, but honestly anything is incredible. What can I say about Maple and Ash other than they are a must have in Chicago. There are two restaurants at this address, their casual restaurant on the first floor and Maple and Ash on the second floor. Upon taking the elevator upstairs, the entire mood has been set once those elevator doors open. Complete with candelabras at the table it gives romantic beauty and the beast vibes. The food, OMG THE FOOD! is delicious. If you are in the mood to spoil yourself go for the I DONT GIVE A FUCK Option on the menu. The chef decides what to serve you and let me say you will be back again! For $200 you get more than your monies worth. Everything is cooked to order, at the right temperatures with so much flavor. Let me start by saying how beautiful the restaurant is . It is elegant and so cozy . The staff is top notch . We had a wonderful experience . The food and presentation was amazing . We have been to so many restaurants downtown and always leave being disappointed . Our friend guaranteed that we would love the whole experience here and she was right ! Decided to try this restaurant after a recommendation from a girlfriend. First impression was really nice. We valeted($15), hopped out and were pleasantly greeted/sent upstairs to the main dining area. The decor here is amazeballs! Dark, earthy tones with dim cove lighting everywhere. I really dig the feel of this place. Well done. To start, we were given a complimentary mini cocktails which was very refreshing. Warm bread soon followed, as we perused the menu. Without further ado - Food: Soft shell crab - 4.5/5. Delicious. Just wish there were more of it. King crab salad - 3.5/5. Not bad. Just nothing spectacular. Simply good. Mac n cheese - 3.5/5 - pretty good but I have had better. Surf n turf - 4/5 - would have been perfect had my filet not been overcooked, but delicious nonetheless. Perfectly seasoned and balanced. The simple move cocktail - 4/5 Chocolate Bombe - 3/5. Im a huge chocolate fan but this didn't do it for me. My friends liked it. Was a bit too sweet and too much going on for my fancy. 4 stars was a kind gesture after having our expectations let down. After visiting just about all steak houses in Chicago, we were excited to go here for a celebration but ended in a bit of disappointment. One of the things that should make a place noteworthy is the experience and that was one of the biggest let down. It was plain average. The price tag was was above average. It simply felt like your everyday Joe restaurant. It seemed very "transactional" as the best adjective. My Mezcal drink was phenomenal. The old fashion way watered down and not great. We started the Mac and cheese which was pretty good, although relatively small portion compared to other steakhouses. The sweet potatoes were mediocre. We both had the 28 day dry aged ribeye. I understand it's a unique taste, and it seemed to be in point with past experiences. Again, food was overall good but lacks excitement we were hoping for. We had an extremely unfortunate experience at Maple and Ash over the weekend for my wife's birthday. The service was incomprehensibly bad, and then an attempt was made to deflect the blame to a member of our party, which I view to be unforgivable at this point. Despite later follow-up, Maple and Ash has refused to resolve the main point of contention. There were many times when this situation could have been resolved amicably, yet management was intent on escalating, rather than diffusing their own poor customer service. It's extremely unfortunate, as the food is quite good, and other experiences I have had at this venue were quite positive. Sadly, at this point, I will not be returning to Maple and Ash. This place left a bad taste in our mouth over and over again throughout the night. Whoever the chef is, props because the food is good. Everything else SUCKED. We made a reservation at 8:30pm. We were ushered upstairs to the restaurant but then told to go "order some drinks" at the bar. We sat and decided we might as well... we don't end up being seated until 9pm. It takes forever for anyone to give us any attention. We finally order food at 9:30pm. It takes about 45 minutes to feed us while we just sit and stare around. Finally, food is served, no explanation or apology of what the hell is going on. Then the food gets cleared after we're done eating and we are sitting there for 20 minutes trying to get our waiter's attention for the check. He checks in on everyone around us and actively avoids eye contact. We finally get the check and it's completely wrong. Thankfully, we got someone else to help us straighten this out. THEN, as we're waiting for the elevator to go down to the exit, everyone coming up exits the elevator and the one worker that's inside the elevator closes the door in our face when we were blatantly waiting to get out of there. Delicious new steakhouse! Had an amazing dinner with my boyfriend in the Atrium Room, which is the room upstairs with an amazing light fixture and natural light flowing into the room. There was also a large candle stick on our table, which is hard to find nowadays. The meal started with a complimentary martini with vermouth, gin, and orange bitters. The martini was chilled and refreshing. We then got a plate of complimentary radishes with sea salt and butter. The radishes were crispy and a great palate cleanser. To start off our meal, we had tasty prime beef meatballs that paired perfectly with garlic bread and came with juicy tomato sauce. As entrees, I got the ricotta agnolotti with truffle and trumpet mushrooms. The agnolotti melted in my mouth was the perfect portion size for something not too heavy. My boyfriend had the surf & turf, which came with a half lobster, 6 oz. filet mignon and truffle potatoes. The meat was all cooked perfectly and very filling. We ended the night with the sundae service, which gave us each three scoops of ice cream (1 chocolate, 1 vanilla, and 1 strawberry) and all the toppings we could want! The toppings included hot fudge, caramel sauce, sprinkles, oreos, macadamia nuts, and many more! It brought back childhood memories with every bite! Last night I went to Maple Ash for my birthday dinner and man let me tell you everything in this place was five-star my waiter Derek Rubinstein was amazing he explained everything on the menu that we were going to get he told me about the beef the butter which was amazing my cowgirl ribeye steak was amazing the last lobster tail my friend had was amazing the Alaskan King crab legs I had was amazing and the whipped potatoes with butter. Yelp reviews and a recommendation from a friend led us here during a weekend trip to Chicago and it was amazing! We (unfortunately) ate too much deep dish many hours before coming, but fought through it for a great meal we will be back for again! We ordered oysters as an appetizer followed by the Wagyu strip and a side of Maitake mushrooms. The black truffle potato puree that came with it was honestly our favorite part of the meal, it paired so well together with the Wagyu. I highly recommend this dish and restaurant! read more

Came with a large group and I have to say the food was absolutely DELICIOUS. I am from SF and usually adhere to a gluten free, sugar free, paleo, keto diet.... all bets were off at Maple & Ash. We were a large group so there was a set menu - shrimp cocktail, steak tartare and a wedge salad were the shared starters. All were tasty but the steak tartare definitely stood out as the winner... though the wedge salad with onion rings and candied bacon was pretty damn good, too. Entrees were filet and chicken. Everyone at the table agreed that we usually aren't crazy about chicken in general but this was awesome. Smokey, moist with perfect texture. IIRC, the sides were asparagus and mashed potatoes. I was getting pretty full by this point, so I didn't partake in desserts. We also had a selection of delicious cocktails. Service was attentive and helpful. I'm really not sure how to feel about this place. Let me begin by saying that we were so excited to eat here. A buddy of mine called this place "the best steak he's eaten in his life", the Yelp and TripAdvisor reviews are through the roof, and when we landed in Chicago all our local friends raved about it. Because of this we prioritized this as our big nice dinner out in Chicago (primarily here for a wedding). I had made an 8:15 reservation and was impressed by the restaurant's responsiveness. I had noted that it was for a birthday celebration (my wife's) and they even texted me to make sure they knew her name. I had seen photos of customized birthday menus and assumed this is what it was for. Not being from Chicago, we didn't have a great sense of traffic or how long it would take and so arrived 15 minutes early, at 8:00 (actually 7:58 per Uber). Despite showing up early we checked in and were happy to be told by the receptionist (one of them, there were 3-4 at any given time) that we'd be seated in "Just a few minutes". Here's where it unravelled. 8:15 came around and we hadn't been seated, which was totally fine. That's when our reservation was and we had no expectations to be seated early. Then 8:30 came. No table yet. Then 8:35, 8:40. No table. When I inquired about if we had been checked in properly, I was told icily "it will only be a few more minutes". No apologies or anything. Why would I be concerned? Well, because we had witnessed multiple parties of two come in after us and get seated, almost all immediately and many with same reservation time (for example two guys with an 8:15 res walked in at 8:30 and were seated immediately, which clearly meant a table for 8:15 double reservation had been available for 15 minutes while we were not given one), while we sat in the lobby looking stupid and forgotten. Eventually two glasses of champagne were delivered to us as an apology, after we had been waiting about 45 minutes total (30 minutes past our reservation). Hate to look a gift horse in the mouth but the champagne was warm and super flat and there were barely bubbles. My wife pointed out that she was positive it was from a display bottle next to the check-in. But nice gesture to be sure. Finally we were seated at 8:53 (but who's counting), 55 minutes after we had arrived and close to 40 minutes after our reservation was supposed to have started. When we got to the table, the menus were not the custom b-day menus and the waiter knew my name but had no idea of my wife's name nor that it was her birthday. To his credit when he pieced it together he did get some special menus for her and swapped them out. But it left me wondering what all the pre-booking texts and fuss was all about if it was to be totally ignored. Since so many couples had been seated before us and everybody else had b-day celebrations on their tables, we felt so low on the totem pole and left us feeling unwelcome and we were honestly both pissed and embarrassed. Now about the service. We eat out at a lot of Michelin and fine dining places and often feel that the service is perfectly attentive but almost cold and overly polite. I like a little off the cuff banter with my waiters! But this was wayyyy over the line at least for us. I had mentioned I didn't want a side with my meal for example, and the waiter was like "fuck a side man, am I right?" It was way too familiar and "scene-y". I saw waiters taking shots with customers so I think this is just the vibe they're going for and obviously people love it. Maybe we're stuck up who knows. The food was mostly great. My wife's crab salad, despite not having the avocados listed on the menu, was flavorful and with extremely generous portions of crab. Same deal with my octopus dish with a red pepper based garnish, great portions and well executed. My 28 oz bone-in ribeye was cooked medium rather than medium-rare as I had ordered which was very disappointing given the quality of the meat and the price, but my wife's bone-in petit cowboy cut (or whatever) was perfectly, and I mean perfectly, cooked. Great wine and we were given a good free cocktail to start. But by the time desert rolled around we just wanted out despite the mostly good food. We got milkshakes at Shake Shack and ate them in our hotel bed and it was the birthday moment we were hoping we'd get back from Maple and Ash. Would I go back? Definitely not. Great food but the experience made us feel both angry and totally unimportant which is not what you want at this or any price point. Given the raves about this place I am sure it was an off night, but it was the worst overall service experience I've had in years at any restaurant. And if you look at my Yelp reviews, service is not usually something I prioritize. I only care when it's utterly amazing or really bad. In short... Maple & Ash is one of the best restaurants I've been to in Chicago, and the competition here is tough. We went for our anniversary and they customized the menu for us which was a great start to our meal along with the complimentary cocktails and bites. Their fire-roasted seafood tower is a tasty twist on the regular fancy restaurant seafood tower and exceptional. The filet was cut thick and cooked perfectly the same temperature all the way to the edges. And our dessert was a show as well as incredibly delicious. Our service was excellent from the moment we walked in including our server Julie and the general manager Raylene who introduced herself at 8 Bar. We will definitely be back! The seafood tower was pretty good although it got cold really fast. The portions were huge-we actually took some to go! Beautiful ambiance although I was a little disappointed upon arrival as the main dining room was rented out for a private event and I wasn't made aware. When I say this is one of coolest and coziest bars, no exaggeration! This bar is like spooky/Salem vibes, with candelabras and darker ambiance, WHICH I LOVE! But in all seriousness they are high end, make AMAZING drinks, and super friendly. You can tell they love making the best experience for customers. I loved it. Food and drinks were great. Burger was bomb.com, mac and cheese was okay but still good, and the fried chicken (don't even talk to me it was so good)?!?!?!? Fire, and the dipping sauces are too! Whoever is frying that chicken needs a raise and stock options! The Hennessey drink and the vodka botanical drink were my faves, but I enjoyed all the cocktails. WOW WOW WOW! One of the best dinners I've had in awhile. The tuna tartare was probably the best I've had. So fresh and flavorful. We also ordered the dry age ribeye which came out to perfection and do me a favor ; get the maple and ash butter with it. It will change your life. The Mac and cheese wasn't overly cheesy but had good texture pasta and the gruyere cheese is a great choice for it. I can't wait to visit Chicago again and try other items on their menu. read more

I am updating this review because Ashley and Courtney did contact me and issue a refund for the deposit. Courtney also confirmed that the cancelation charge should not have been instituted unless it was a special day. This also confirms what has been written in the Q&A section. Superb! All around great experience. Went to Maple & Ash with my boys on Friday. We're all in different places in our lives now so when we can get together it is important that we are enjoying ourselves. This night lived up to the billing. First, when you enter you're greeted warmly. We had reservations but complete party wasn't there so we went to the bar. Top notch. Ended up sitting in the lounge chairs at the bar and enjoyed a couple of very good drinks. I had the Maple & Ash Old Fashion. When the time was right we were escorted to our table and bid a good evening and introduced to Lauren (you want to ask for her - I'm sure the entire staff is tops but she was on her game). She explained what we could expect asked about drinks and gave a few suggestions. I told her the Old Fashion I had was okay and we had a discussion about bourbons and whiskeys. She made a suggestion on my next one and it was perfect. When it came time to order she didn't "push" anything but gave sound advice based on a couple of questions we asked. We did a tower for appetizers - so good. All the seafood was seasoned and there was enough for four large me to enjoy before our main course. Each of us ordered steaks, different cuts and sides for the table. My steak was cooked to perfect temperature, medium, and each side (except for the Brussel sprouts - I don't care how or what it is cooked in, OKAY!!) was complementary. An easy coffee after the meal capped off a perfect meal/experience. It makes a difference when you have a server who is knowledgeable, attentive and actually cares about your needs. For this and this alone I would return but add in a perfect meal too...I'll be bringing my clients here from now on out. read more

I made our reservation online for 4:30 on a Saturday. I didn't notice the option for dining room vs patio til the reservation was set "it said patio" so I called to get an understanding of this and asked for the dining area. The young lady explained it was not quite outside but covered and heated. When we arrived again I asked if we could be seated in the dining area and the hostess said there was no availability, so we were seated on the "covered patio" which was outside and next door to the building and seemed more like we were in an alley way with make shift drapery to appear like you are indoors (nothing like the pictures online). As we were placing our orders with our waiter I asked about the Salmon which the waiter explained there is a different menu on the patio vs the dining area, this was never told to me when I called so needless to say I was NOT happy. We placed our orders anyway since we had driven so far (over an hour) and had already paid for valet. Our waiter (Ivan, who was wonderful) said he would see what he could do to get us seated in the dining area so that we could order what we wanted from the dining menu. By this time we had already had our 1st drink and our salads had just come and we didn't want to move our food and drinks outdoors past people walking down the street. The main reason for us coming all the way into the city was to celebrate our anniversary at a nice restaurant with a nice atmosphere and we did NOT get that. Upside...the food was good but pricey and they added a staff benefit fee which I had never heard of. The next time we decide to dine in the city and spend our hard earned money, we will be sure it's a restaurant with top-tier service. :( read more

We went there last night. Four people. We ordered two caesar salads and split them. One ordered the bone in ribeye, another the veal chop and the other two spilt a bone in ribeye. The service, decor and ambiance was great, no complaints there. However, the food was horrible. The veal chop was over cooked, too salty to eat and hard. It was sent back and taken off the check. The couple that split the one bone in ribeye, found it hard, overly seasoned with pepper and left 2/3rds of it since they could not eat it. The caesar salads were also over seasoned. I will not return, very disappointing. Gibson's would have been a better choice. read more
