2 Levels to this really cool lodge looking and feeling brewery We sat upstairs in what I guess you call the loft? mezzanine? whatever. we had the whole level to ourselves pretty much which was great so that we could spread out. Mind you ... there were only 5 adults and 2 kids but we feel like more. ha! I wasn't all that hungry so I got 1 beer (Gravity Rider - (marzen)) and the brussel sprouts side and the pretzel bun. Perfect dinner for me! I wasn't too full or weighed down. Gravity Rider was great! Not too heavy or malty... nice and smooth, caramel flavors, but with a hint of a bite just to keep it interesting. 6% ABV so it won't knock you down. The brussel sprouts... oh the brussel sprouts! So Damn Good! I'm just going to copy what the menu says so I don't forget something: "Brussels sprouts, golden raisin, brown butter almonds, 80 Chain & brown sugar crème fraiche, and green onions." Oh... and I added Bacon because why not? This dish should be shared because it's quite sizeable. But I ate it as my main entree..... and there were still leftovers. It was delightful! I want to try to make this dish at home. I know it won't be as good but I'm going to try. The fam ordered a bunch of other stuff on the menu and they enjoyed all of it. MAP Brewing is brewery visit #236 for me, and I must say it is a cool place. Very nicely done taproom, which was quite busy at 5pm on a Friday as you would expect. It has a very friendly vibe and an awesome view of the mountains across a small lake, which was pretty frozen at the end of March. I started with a flight of four, knowing I was going to add on a fifth taster. More on that later. The Party is a Mexican style lager which unlike some of the commercial Mexican layers, **cough, Corona, cough**, doesn't need the lime wedge to make it palatable. A little sweetness but not overly so. Just a nice refreshing beer. Canyon Companion mountain IPA has a nice hop aroma and slight bitterness although YMMV of course. This is an easy drinking IPA. I ordered the Gravity Rider Marzen in honor of SWPFTD who couldn't make the trip with me. The Marzen was good and quite true to style. Malty but not sweet and with a slightly dry finish. The 80 Chain oatmeal stout was next. This had a nice roasty aroma and flavor as expected. I would have liked a little creamier mouth feel and a tad more sweetness on this one. It is definitely within the style range but I always compare oatmeal stouts to my first. You know what they say about your first! Last up, after my initial four, was the Dark Side Of The Ridge, a bourbon barrel aged vanilla imperial stout. Initially I didn't get the vanilla on this but then, WHAM, there it was at the tail end and lingering on my tongue like...well, let's just say it lingered. In a good way of course. At 10.5% this one can sneak up on you because while it certainly has lots of flavor it doesn't actually come across as a high ABV beer. I didn't have any chow while I was here but I was eyeballing the lady next to me who had a very tasty looking burger. No seriously, I was actually eyeballing her burger. No, her actual burger served by the restaurant! Stop it!!! MAP Brewing is a great spot overall. Staff was friendly, great vibe, awesome view, and the beers were very good. I even picked up a crowler of the Marzen to keep me company this evening. Love this place!! Food 4/5 I had the burger and fries, fries were plentiful and burger was cooked perfectly! They also have a bomb honey mustard and ranch. I ate the whole thing but easily could've been shared. Ambiance 5/5 There was a great band when we came here on amo day and we sat outside, there are some beautiful views of the water. Sad part is the wait was an hour and they stop serving around 8- this is a Montana law about alch- look it up if you're visiting. Food was amazing, I could have eaten a second burger right after I finished the first one! Service was great, as well. The only weird thing was that you couldn't take your food outside if you ordered inside. But the only reason we sat and ordered inside was because it was raining. Lots to like about this place. Good beers, great pub food, nice view outside and good service. Strong beer list and not just a bunch of IPAs either. The 80 Chain is a awesome oatmeal stout with solid coffee and chocolate flavors to the malt. The Dark Timber Black IPA has an amazing mix of roasty/toasty flavors balanced with the pine resin of the hops. My favorite food item was the Daniel's Brat: smoked beer brat + apple bacon sauerkraut + mustard with their beer in it. Burgers were great too! read more

Came here Saturday at 12:15 was already pretty busy for only being open for 15 min but by the time we left the line was quite long waiting for a table. The service was ok and the food ok. We don't drink so I guess that's the main reason you would come to a brewery. The location and building are very nice. So would come for location and view but lowered expectation for great food. You'll enjoy the wait list system to find a seat and the restricted seating zones for food service. And the lines. I've patronized this brewery since it opened. After a little hiatus I returned recently and found the place transformed. No longer could I just belly up or grab a free table, or even order a dinner at a peripheral seat--and the staff was adamant about these things. So I drank my one beer and took my money elsewhere. Yummm! This was a really great post hike spot. We arrived right as their web check in/waitlist was closed for the day but they kindly added us to the list anyways. We were seated within 5-10min and service was fantastic! The entire crew here just vibed together so nicely and were so helpful, kind and friendly. I glanced over the menu and thought I'd order the Midas Crush but then ended up thinking I'd go a a beer flight route, and asked for a some suggestions. Our server brought me Midas Crush, recommended Strange Cattle (which I would have otherwise skipped right over thinking I wouldn't like - hazy IPA) and Ridge Hippy. The Strange Cattle was sooooo good! I ended up ordering one of these, we shared some nachos and I tried a bit of my friends Oatmeal stout (not bad at all, but for a warm day the Strange Cattle hit just right. This is a great spot, I highly recommend and I'm probably the furthest from a beer girl but they are doing everything right. What a great location! The views of the park, lake and mountains are awesome. There is a limited menu on the patio. Waiting is a little awkward- they have a great app with updates, but there aren't many places to actually wait. You can get a brew from the bar though and they have a significant selection for brews on tap. Including a couple of sour beers, which the Hubbs likes. I had a nice wheat. The appetizer list is nice - we opted for the lamb sliders which had a huckleberry sauce. Then I ordered a crispy chicken sandwich with slaw and the Hubbs got the smoky cheeseburger with fries. Everything was cooked perfectly, they were generous with the sauces on the side. We shared everything and loved it! Definitely a place to check out again. The servers were super great. Montana has some weird beer laws so you can't have very many beers in one sitting, but enjoyed this space and view of a cute little pond/lake when sitting outside on the patio with gorgeous views of mountains of course! We got appetizers and meals, and I would highly recommend the poutine and lamb sliders. We were pretty unimpressed with the main course, the fries were cold and the meat on the burger was way too bloody. We forgot to specify how to cook the burger to our waitress, but didn't expect it to be so rare the middle was cold. My mom got a burger too and hers was the same exact way. It's always interesting to see what else a brewery can offer, other than beer... I learned that Map Brewing makes some fantastic, juicy CHICKEN LOLLIPOPS. These aren't the usual tiny chicken lollipops, these were drumsticks! AND honestly, this chicken was better than some chicken spots! SUPER juicy, perfectly seasoned so you could eat it alone or with your preferred dipping sauce. We tried the "Midas Crush BBQ", "Truffle Tango Chile Sauce", and "Honey Sesame Gochujang" - my favorite was the "Midas Crush BBQ" sauce. We ordered: Smokey Cauliflower Bites - We also thoroughly enjoyed this so much that we ordered another one! It's cauliflower brined in Herb de Provence, dipped in rice flour mixture, fried crispy, and served with a caper & lemon aioli dipping. Rating: 10/10 Chicken Lollipops - I would definitely re-order this. Rating: 10/10 House Spätzle - This tasted like a soft mac n' cheese. It was housemade Spätzle, hopped white cheddar beer cheese, brown butter focaccia bread crumb. Rating: 6/10 The Big MAP - A decent burger. It was smaller than I thought it would be, probably because it was smashed patties. It was 3 Montana grass-fed beef smash patties, pickled corn & bacon pimento cheese, and housemade Danger sauce. I should have asked what was in the "Danger" sauce! Rating: 8.5/10 THE BEER - If you enjoy beer, I would bet they have one you'd enjoy. They have a wide range of beer and I tasted at least 4 different kinds and I appreciated their varying tastes and flavors. I only remember that I particularly enjoyed "Strange Cattle" and "Midas Crush". No surprise that they have won Beer Competitions! TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. I don't write many reviews, but this place takes the cake as the worst restaurant in many years. Told 20 minutes for a table. Waited 1 hour and 40 minutes. When seated, told they were out of burger buns (all they serve is burgers). Waitress (looks like Ellie from Last of Us) was slow, unprofessional, and uncaring. Halfway through our meal, when we asked for silverware, she came over with a fist full of forks and knives and threw it in the middle of the table. We came in with our kids after leaving Costco. Like many kids, they are picky eaters so we got them each a slice of pizza to eat so we could also enjoy a dinner (that wasn't greasy pizza) before driving back home. When we walked in I looked for a sign to see if there were restrictions on bringing in outside food. There were not. We sat down, ordered drinks and food for the adults and the kids ate their slice of pizza. About 40 minutes into our visit, I was tapped on the shoulder. A man with a Map Brewing shirt was behind me and said " just so you know you can't bring outside food in. I let it slide this time but don't do it again", and walked off. I went to go look at the front door and then asked the host at the front, if there was a sign about bringing in outside food. He said no. When the Map employee was nearby again, I asked him if I missed a sign, he said "no, it's assumed that you don't bring food in". I told him that had I known, we wouldn't have, and having a sign up would be helpful. He replied, "I have lots of signs up and no one reads them" to which I said that if there isn't a sign, it's hard to know what is and isn't okay. He told me "you don't have to come back here again", I said okay, we probably won't. He replied "good" and walked off. I understand that some restaurants have rules, and if there had been a rule visible, or if the host had stopped us on the way in, I would have respected that. The rule is not the problem, at all. It's the way it was handled and the way we were treated by who we found out later was the floor manager. I would like to say that the bar tender was so kind and said that she hoped that we would come back. She paid for one of our items, which she did not have to. I am not opposed to rules, but the way we were treated by the Map employee was not a great customer service experience. read more
