I went for a late lunch and thought the food/ambience/service were ok, but not great. I ordered one of the daily specials after checking the menu online. The website says the specials come with fries or salad, my waitress, although very nice, insisted it does not. A burger with no sides for $19, didn't sound great so I changed my order. Would not recommend the roasted red pepper and goat cheese soup, it was very bland and the goat cheese was overwhelming. This relaxing environment and outdoor decor makes the trip into the heart of Hammond Ferry worth the trek. I've been to Manuel several times and some of their dishes and be okay to very good. Tonight I had the Steak Frite. Ordered it blue/rare, which was cooked to perfection, not blue, but turned out more medium-rare. The meat is chewy with the perfect cut of fat and bone attached to it. The side of French fries and ketchup added to the taste. I think the grilled vegetables could have been more, but that is me wanting more greens and not necessarily trying to "plate" it for appearance. My friend order the Filet of Beef and described it was "perfect." When I looked down, she had already finished her plate and I was barely going through a 1/4 of my steak. Definitely a good place to bring friends or a date for good, fancy-yet-casual atmosphere. Waitress was nice and attentive. I just wish the food was more satisfying. Came here as a party of 5 for a birthday dinner celebration and ordered a lot of plates: - Poutine a la Manuel: was ok. Wish it had more sausage in it. Nice melted cheese that gave a good cheese pull. - Red Pepper Hummus: not the worst, but not the best hummus I've ever had. A step above store-bought, but it really isn't that special. I think I would get similar results if I topped Sabra hummus with olive oil and balsamic glaze. - Fried Ravioli: comes with 6 raviolis. Reminds me of something from Olive Garden. It only had cheese inside, which was great for my vegetarian friend. The texture was great, classic crunchy outside yet gooey inside. - French Onion Soup: this was SO. SALTY. I felt like I was eating something made with ocean water. What?? I really wanted to like it, but I couldn't handle more than a couple of bites without feeling like I was developing hypertension. - Steak Frite: ordered medium-rare, but it felt way more on the rare side. Lots of fat in the meat, which is fine because that's the nature of the steak. Not very noteworthy other than that. - Pork Belly: on the special/seasonal menu. Came on top of what seemed to be a grit cake? But I don't quite remember what it was. Pork belly was sufficiently cooked and fatty, leaving a crisp, slightly burnt texture on the surface. The dish came glazed with brown sugar which was a nice touch. - Vegetarian pasta with red sauce: not on the menu, but was specially made for my vegetarian friend upon request. Came with mixed vegetables. Decent dish, but it was $22 just for some pasta, sauce, and vegetables. Felt like a big ripoff. - Caramel bourbon cake: simply excellent. Loved the subtle bourbon taste. Cake wasn't too dense. Cream/frosting wasn't too sweet. Like a Publix cake but better. Other dishes were ordered, but I didn't try enough to give a sufficient review. See photos. They also didn't offer anything free for birthday except for a candle on top of a cake, should we decide to order a cake. Which we did, but they ran out of candles. I get you can't give out freebies all the time (especially for cakes that cost a whopping $10 per slice), but it would've given some brownie points for this place. The main reason I dine here is for the atmosphere. It is a beautiful corner lot with European style architecture, and it is beautiful to sit on the outside on a nice day. The inside is clean, but slightly crowded. As far as the food, the best item on the menu is the trout filet sandwich- so filling and so delicious. If you have a sweet tooth- you can't pass up on a side chocolate croissant. The last time I went they did not have a dairy free creamer option for the coffee, which is my only complaint. My omelette was so runny and I ordered mushrooms in omlette- forgot them. I'm truly upset. It's not cheap either. With two -under $100 for French toast and omelette. The potatoes were tepid at best. I had the pleasure of visiting what my coworkers call a North Augusta landmark. @manuels_bread_cafe is located on a picturesque corner of Hammonds Ferry. If you haven't explored the area, what are you waiting for? While marveling at the beautiful area, be sure to snag a reservation. While the area is beautiful the food offerings at Manuel's is out of this world. I really appreciate that their menu always has special offerings and pairings. I've been several times and I've been able to sample unique food that's not common to our area. On this trip, I got to enjoy frog legs and while I was a bit apprehensive to trying them I knew that Manuel's is the place to try something new. I can agree that our friend Steve Urkel has great taste in food because I enjoyed the dish. It was well seasoned and I really appreciated the delicate crunch of the batter. This former low country gal also enjoyed the shrimp and grits. The grits were nice and creamy and set off by the sauce. My Sunday lunch was topped off with an incredible slice of chocolate cake. It was rather large and I was excited to take it home and enjoy it with a nice glass of milk that evening. I look forward to my next adventure to Manuel's to enjoy the delicious ideas they've created since my last visit. Group Suggestions: If the weather is nice, sit outside. The area is so cute and you'll feel like you're on a movie set. Be sure to snag a reservation. They have cute reserved tags for your table and who doesn't like feeling like a VIP. The french onion soup was good, but too salty to finish. I also had their microgreen salad, which was tasty but had no volume at all. This cute little spot is a must visit if you're in the Augusta area. Situated literally in the middle of a neighborhood next to the savannah River, the atmosphere is very pleasant and nice. I'm very glad during this time they offer outdoor seating which makes me feel very safe to eat here. Their lunch menu has a variety of options including salads and sandwiches. I recommend getting the sandwiches because they come with a side salad or fries and it's actually pretty filling! I went to Manuel's Bread Cafe for brunch with a group of friends. I was super excited because it's in the cute village-like setting. The atmosphere was a mixture of high-end and casual elements with a sleek logo and expensive woodwork, but a chalkboard menu and cheap-looking seats. I ordered eggs benedict, two mimosas, and a hot tea and the total cost was $55. I wouldn't say the cost was deserving of the meal size and overall experience. The food tasted good, but the mimosas were lacking in the alcohol content and the tea was served as a mug of hot water and a bag on the side. I doubt I would visit again, it's not somewhere I'd suggest going, but if a friend was wanting to go really badly I wouldn't turn it down. The Salmon Cake salad was light and delicious. Service was great. The ambiance outside at night is quite extraordinary with lights and French music. Only negative thing to say is that my friend ordered the Wagyu burger and requested it be cooked medium. However, it came out very rare - inedibly rare. Fortunately, that is a fixable issue. Being relatively new to the SCRA, I am just becoming familiar with North Augusta. As I look around North Augusta, I am finding it a very nice place, full of little restaurants and shops. Yesterday my wife and I enjoyed a pleasant lunch at Manuel's Bread Cafe. It is in a nice quiet and clean neighborhood. Outside they have patio seating. You can enjoy outdoors eating without traffic noise and Skateboards dodging in and out between the tables. Inside is small but very comfortable. One of the first things I look for is speakers right over my table. In fact, there was a speaker above our heads. The good news is the music was at a comfortable level and the music provided a pleasant background. They were fairly busy with the lunch crowd, but it was a comfortable crowded. The clientele spanned young parents with babies to elderly couples and groups of friends. Let it suffice to say there was more grey hair than dark hair. The staff were all friendly, courteous, and just attentive enough. The menu has a variety of offerings which should be enough to satisfy nearly everyone's diet. I had the pit beef BLT. It is a variation of a traditional BLT with the added smoked beef. That's not a combination I would have thought of, but it was very good. The French onion soup was the best I have had in a long time, and that's saying something. My wife had the salmon burger with salad. She enjoyed it, as well. We didn't have room for desert, which I regret. My only disappointment was the fries. They weren't very crispy. At least for my personal preference. Prices are quite reasonable. All in all, we will be back and bring friends with us next time. If you are into blaring music, 20 TVs, pushing crowds, over served obnoxiously loud, people with baseball hats on backward keep looking. We try to be nice patrons, and clean up after ourselves etc. Two dishes we wanted were not available. During our date night we got a nice large slice of cake. Maybe my expectations are too high ... based upon our numerous exceptional experiences here, when it first opened several years ago ... Shrimp and grits (my absolute go-to) ... mediocre. I really expected a more "upscale/authentic" version ... with bacon, andouille, plump shrimp, "gravy"... the sausage tasted and looked like a Jimmy Dean patty had been crumbled on top. The shrimp were small, and the whole thing was swimming in a tasteless oil. I've had much, much better. Will I come again ... probably. Great Saturday lunch here! After walking by the river with the pups, we decided to have a lunch at Manuel's. They are doing only outside seating which was great. They had heaters on and brought water and bones for the pups! We got the fry appetizer with garlic aioli, they were awesome! Would recommend. For my meal I got the Kobe burger which was amazing. Juicy and tender. My sister got the French dip and loved it, especially the horseradish sauce. It was a generous portion, too. For dessert the table got the cookies and cream cake and chocolate mouse. Both were great, we liked the mouse better! The only negative aspect of our lunch was that our waitress was a tad slow.
