Great southern, home cooked foods at reasonable price. Avoid the McDonald's next door and get you a vegetable plate at Crossroads: it will save your life. This place is a classic diner with cafeteria style serving. Quick service and food and all the sweet you could want.

Too expensive for warmed canned vegetables. No flavor or nutrients. This is not southern cooking. Cold shoulder, old South reception.

My husband and I found this gem of a restaurant on YELP and decided that the GLUTEN-FREE waffles…read morewere the perfect birthday brunch for me. I had the banana nut waffle (delicious!) with a side of bacon, my husband had a strawberry waffle with eggs, bacon, and hash browns. He cleaned his plate (he doesn't often do this), and my waffle was so big I couldn't finish! We thought the service staff were welcoming and attentive. I was surprised that there weren't more people at the restaurant, given that we went on a Monday and many places aren't open then. There was some road construction (and we aren't from Augusta) so it was slightly hard to find. But I'm glad we made it--I'm planning to take my daughters back tomorrow!

I recently visited Cafe on Eighth and loved the initial vibe--it's a small, cozy, Black…read morefamily-owned spot with chill soft jazz playing in the background. Our server was incredibly sweet, and we felt genuinely welcomed from the moment we walked in. Because every dish is made from scratch to ensure freshness, be prepared for a bit of a wait. We also had to make some adjustments to our initial order because a few items were unavailable, but we still ended up with a solid meal. My girlfriend had the turkey bacon, the COE cakes (which are delicious hash browns), and the classic sweet waffles. I went with the beef quesadilla and the classic lemonade, which comes with free refills. The quesadilla was a great choice and the hash browns were very tasty. The waffle had a great flavor and was nice and soft, though it was served a bit cold. One thing to keep in mind is the presentation; the food is served on plastic plates with plastic silverware. While we tried not to let that affect our judgment since we were there for the food, presentation does eventually matter. Also, the temperature inside was a little warmer than I'd like--it was about 58 degrees outside, but that coolness definitely didn't translate to the dining room. It wasn't a dealbreaker, but it was noticeable. The most important thing to know before you go is that they only accept cash tips. It's a bit of a strange policy in this day and age since most people don't carry cash, especially when you're already using plasticware for the meal. They do have CashApp if you think to ask, but it's easy to forget if you aren't prepared. I really hope the staff is being taken care of if people forget their cash! Overall, the food was good, the service was great, and I didn't feel like my time was wasted. It's a nice local spot for a fresh, handmade breakfast

Yelp nudged us toward New Moon Cafe, and while the signage from the street is minimal enough that we almost walked past it, we eventually found our way inside and were glad we did. At 12:30 on a Saturday the timing worked in our favor. We stepped right up to the counter with no queue at all, placed our order, and settled in. By the time our food arrived about fifteen minutes later, the line had grown to the point where people were waiting nearly that long just to order, which gave the whole place that lively, slightly chaotic weekend energy without ever feeling rushed. Mrs. K chose the smoked salmon bagel, which came out panini pressed, a small twist on a classic that she enjoyed. I am still keeping things keto, so the chef's salad with blue cheese was exactly what I needed, a generous portion that felt balanced and satisfying without pushing me off track. They offer plenty of coffee drinks and smoothie combinations, but we kept things simple and were perfectly happy with our choices. There is outdoor seating if that is your preference, and the whole experience had that relaxed, local charm that makes Augusta lunches feel unhurried even when the dining room is filling up around you. I love hidden gems when it comes to businesses. You drive by it a few times and think about…read morestopping in, you mention its name to others and they don't know what you're talking about, and then you finally visit. Such was the case with this coffee shop. The location is the first selling point. Right on the corner of 8th and Greene Street. You might not notice it except for in the evening. The large windows in the front allow the light from inside to spill out. During the day, you get the opposite. The sun gives this place such a warm glow. I already love 8th Street because it is unique with its presence of pine trees (all the way to the riverfront), but is also home to some amazing other businesses. Walking in, you are greeted by plenty of seating selection and smiling team members. The coffee bar is straight ahead with the options. I have to give props to the design team as they did an amazing job with the overall theme, the rustic industrial feel. Again, the contrast of the dark wood and white walls with the sunlight is perfect. They will let you know upfront that they are the fruit of a collaborative effort by United Methodist Churches in the area. The primary goal is to provide a coffee shop where college students can come to study, fellowship, and grow. I mention this because I also want to add that, based on my observation, this was the only religious reference present. So know that there aren't various sayings on the walls that might offend or disturb the atmosphere. Also, because it falls under the churches, it is a nonprofit. This means payment is suggested, they can't charge per se. So have an idea of what you think a latte or hot cup of coffee is worth to you. I went with a nitro cold brew coffee and was told their cold brew and all of their beans come from Stone Roastery (in North Augusta). It is good to hear them supporting local and not trying to produce something they may not be ready for just yet. There is free WiFi and soft acoustic music playing and the invitation to come and setup to work anytime (without them knowing the company I work for). I look forward to returning soon. Stop by, if your schedule allows. Currently they are open Monday-Wednesday, 11 am-3 pm. They hope to expand hours soon.

The coffee is decent here, but we had a very unfortunate experience…read more We stopped by at 2:30pm on a Saturday. We had thought they were open until 5pm. The place was apparently closed (we had mixed up which coffee shop it was on Google and thought it stayed open until 5pm) but the door was open. I opened the door, poked my head in, and asked the lady if they were open. She was polite and said no but they could sell me a bag of beans if needed. I said no thank you - Then out of nowhere the dog that stays in this building bolted toward me and out the door. My girlfriend was outside the building in the dirt parking lot with our new puppy just walking her around waiting for me. This dog of theirs in the building was unleashed and apparently uncontrollable because it got extremely aggressive, bolted out of the door by me before I could shut the door, and attacked our puppy. Luckily, it does not seem our puppy got bitten, but this is not acceptable as my girlfriend and our puppy were far outside of the building and way out in the parking lot - not even coming in. If you're going to have a dog in this place, please either be able to control it and not let it run outside of the building and attack other dogs or please keep it leashed. We will not be going back here due to this experience.
