We went to Mantra this afternoon and it was so delicious. Food was really good and staff were so nice. Will definitely go back again!

The ambience was incredible but the food was subpar. Everything was okay but it didn't have enough seasoning. I like the concept but after being vegan for 4 years, i wasn't impressed.

    Yucca Fries - delicious!

One of the best vegan restaurants in Houston! Top notch food, service, and atmosphere. We started with an order of the yucca fries - crispy and well seasoned on the outside, and deliciously soft on the inside. These were perfection! Next, we shared an order of plantain nachos. The "cheese" was amazing and creamy, served with a healthy portion of avocado and pico. Super yummy! Lastly, we shared the "crab cake" sandwich and holy cow, it was delicious. The breading was creative, flavorful, and crispy - the "crab" was made from mushrooms - the combination of flavors was delightful. You can certainly tell the chef pays attention to every little detail and brings the perfect balance of flavors to every dish. Alongside the friendly and helpful service, the ambiance of the restaurant gives a nice, chill, laid-back vibe. We can't wait to go back and explore the menu more!

A lot of vegan restaurants are gimmicky, so I often approach these sorts of places with pessimism. But Mantra was a nice change of pace as the menu, while justifiably pricey due to the quality of ingredients used, was tasty and clearly technique-driven. They undoubtedly use the best meat substitutes, and our meal featured some fun surprises. We did visit fairly early in their development, thus while the interior was what I would call urban minimalist, there was a great deal of construction outside that made for a fairly ugly view. There was only one front-of-house employee, but he did a wonderful job explaining everything and serving us. My thoughts on our meal: Coconut Calamari - A dish that blew my mind and is an absolute must if you dine here. The taste is indistinguishable from the squid counterpart, though of course the texture can't quite compare. I wish the pieces were a little on the larger side. K-Seoul Pizza - gluten-free crust with vegan mozzarella, sauteed mushrooms, and a syrupy sauce that was tangy, fruity, and spicy. A fragrant and fresh tasting delight, though part of me wishes it was less saucy. The Lioness - a Lions mane crab cake sandwich of sorts. If you've never had this particular shroom, it's super meaty in texture and really tasty. The flavors were there, but I found the actually patty too thin and the gluten-free bun a tad too chewy. The thick-cut fries were well seasoned and fluffy. Overall, probably would try something else instead of paying $18 for this dish again.

We enjoyed the service and atmosphere of mantra, and when seated felt a little sad there weren't more people there. I think the two items we ordered just needed a liiittle more of something - more lime and seasoning in the coconut ceviche, more heat or some kind of condiment on the pizza, both were alright but not quite up to the quality that the ambiance and vibe of the space leads you to expect. Just a few tweaks could make these both really great plates. I'd like to return to sample some of the other items!

Ohhh soosoo divine!! I really need to learn how to make some of these dishes. Their service is also exceptional. Cristian is the sweetest and tentative server. He's great about recommending new things to try.

Jackfruit sandwich was amazing. A little spice but delicious

Mantra was AMAZING. It started off with a wonderful gentleman that was so helpful, super pleasant, and nice. After looking at their 100% vegan and GF menu, I couldn't decide what to get so we got a ton . The coconut calamari is phenomenal and seriously was, by far, the best vegan dish I've ever had! Egg rolls and the yucca fries were good. Plantain nachos were amazing as was the korean bbq tacos and penne! Mantra's ambience was chill and laid back with great music. Its beautiful inside and the service was really beyond excellent. Nice clean eating with a well thought out menu and exceptional customer service.

They had the same menu items and I noticed the prices increased since I last been. The cashier was a bit timid, he talked so low but he was as helpful as he could be. The ambiance is exactly the same. It's intimate and small, cool for a private or solo outing. I would say the music was up a bit louder than expected but it was cool. Now shall we????? The food. Cali ($13) : 4/10 - simply put. No flavor. Fried well though. Not the same. Lil Red BBQ ($12) - 8/10 - The jackfruit could've been seasoned more but the texture was great. My girlfriend liked how soft the bread was also. The BBQ was also good. Notyo Salad ($13) -8.5/10 - This was the most consistent item on the menu. The only thing I can say about it was that it needed more sauce to cover the amount of arugula and micro greens that came on it. But y'all ITS FLAVORFUL. The lime flavor with the avocado. It's MUAAAAHHHHH :* Sweet Potato Fries ($3/each) - 8.5/10 - Fried well. Good portion for price. Left us feeling light. My rating... this is an affordable and great health spot. If you're paying attention they inform people about their needs, ingredients included in the meals, and what the benefits are. If you are new to vegan food this is a great start. The bathroom area was atrocious and smelled that way too. Service was was A1, the guy taking our order was also cooking so for him to had been busy and taking orders, the smile he gave was reassuring he could handle himself. He also made sure he gave me the biggest piece of cake Shoutout to him for that!!!! Now what y'all are really waiting for.... The food review. We ordered: Shroom Tacos (3) - 8.5/10 because they skimpy. It came with chopped white onions and limes on the side. The problem was there was an upcharge for oyster mushrooms but wasn't filled up with the mushrooms. I shouldn't bite into a taco and end up with just tortilla. And the limes were dry. However, the flavor of the tacos were A1. Chicken Chikn Alfredo sub Oyster Mushrooms- 7.5/10 because NO EXPLOSION OF FLAVOR. It was INSIPID. However, the noodles were cooked well, sauce was saucin' and they didn't skimp on the mushrooms in this dish. BUT they could've gave more pasta as a whole, it really wasn't much in there. Philly Steak Sub sub Oyster Mushrooms with KORNY SAUCE- 7/10. It lacked flavor AND there was barely enough mushrooms for how big the sandwich bread was. There was plenty onions and peppers which were cooked well but that's not what we were looking forward to. In addition, we couldn't even tell whether there was KORNY sauce added to it or not. Cookies and Cream Milkshake- 7/10. It was pretty good. Nothing special. Had a good consistency and flavor. German Chocolate Cake- 5.5/10. The cake itself was cooked well and really good. The icing which was coconut and something else wasn't very appetizing or appealing nor was it sweet. It was cold but we prefer our cakes room temperature. Overall, we would go back for the shroom tacos and probably try something else. They did have a very extensive menu. So I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others to try for themselves.

I'm visiting from Florida on a work trip, so I'll keep it brief. The interior could use some updated furniture, but honestly, it didn't take away from the experience. The AC worked well, and it was comfortable inside. The concrete floors might come across as "unfinished" or even dirty at first glance, but it felt more like part of the place's hip, industrial vibe. It's an older building with plenty of character. The person who took our order was very friendly and offered great recommendations. We tried the steak tacos, okra bites, and taquitos and everything was absolutely delicious. Don't let the negative reviews steer you away. I will say that vibe here is some what informal however the team is super friendly and nice! So my order was comprised of the following Collard greens : cooked and seasoned well Mac & Cheese : creamy and flavorful Barbecue Wings : battered fried and tossed Boudin rice balls : yummy Fried Catfish : texture and flavor was great Battered Shrimp: how can these not be real Yum Sauce: this can be married to anything Pineapple Lemonade: didn't quite hit the spot, so this was my least flavored item Nevertheless, I refuse to go into the detailed goodness of the each and every dish, because each of these I would eat again and this review would be ridiculously long and because after it's gone, all that I am left with are the unbelievable memories of taste. I have no negative comments on the food whatsoever. The facility is a little dated, however the quality and quantity of what arrives from that kitchen brings you back home. I will definitely be making this a home of mine in my search of Vegan cooking in the area. Please forgive me for almost leaving out the sauce that compliments pretty much anything they cook. I read somewhere that the bakery is set to close soon and wanted to share a few thoughts regarding how important this bakery is, not only to my original childhood neighborhood, but the city itself. What I love: how the building looks on the outside and inside; the owner is very kind, friendly and eager to converse with visitors; and the idea that you can purchase an album by The Jungle Brothers, David Axelrod, Andre 3000, De La Soul or D'Angelo along with sweet treats from the bakery is just so cool. As a cratedigger who loves buying records, this is just so impressive to me. The great artwork hanging on the walls is another plus. A family member bought a delicious strawberry cake for my birthday a few years back, and that was my first introduction to Crumbville. The owner's decision to offer vegan and gluten free desserts was a smart decision, but she also offers regular baked goods. During my first visit recently, I purchased a strawberry cupcake, which had a lime-flavored cookie base. It was sublime and reminded me so much of the birthday cake from years ago. Service was great here. Overall, I just love this place. It makes me smile, and I will be very sad to see it go.
