The interior is very cozy and community-centered, just like its mission. The furniture is very antique-like and there are couches, high chairs by the window, and small square tables. It would be really great for a study spot! The coffee menu has a good amount of specialty drinks. I got the pistachio latte, which is ground pistachio with cardamom, and I got it with vanilla syrup. Every first Tuesday of the month (don't quote me on this, check their instagram!) they have free drinks covered by Frost Bank, which is very nice. Doshi House is a popular coffee shop and cafe located on Emancipation Ave. I finally got the chance to stop by in the morning for a coffee before work and was surprised to find it almost completely full, many of the customers being students. Not quite sure what to expect, I was pleased to see that it's completely plant-based including the pastries and no extra plus charge for alternative milks (praise!) I ended up ordering their pistachio latte which had a really rich, bold espresso note and a sweet cardamom finish at the bottom of the cup. I would definitely get this again but might try to stir it before drinking for a more even flavor distribution. In terms of the setting, there's lots of small tables and couches to work and study with either a small group or alone. They also have a back patio with additional seating, board games, and even a printer which can be hard to find in this day and age. Overall the vibe is relaxed and casual. Finally, while I had to wait about 30 minutes to order and receive my drink, I had some time to watch their workflow and would offer some suggestions for improvement to speed up their service. The staff all clearly put a lot of care into preparing each drink and were doing the best they could to move quickly, but the layout of the back counter area is fairly inefficient. To start, the ice well for cold drinks is on the complete opposite side of the register away from their espresso machines. This added a lot of steps for the staff to prepare iced coffee drinks. Secondly, the straws were also quite a reach for the staff across the counter, also by the ice well. Finally, the order retrieval process is not the best. There are no names written on the cups and customers are sometimes in the bathroom or outside on the back patio when their order is ready. It can be hard for the staff to locate the right customer or if the drink gets left on the counter, it's hard to know what it is and who it is for. Overall, a pleasant (plant-based!) discovery but hoping they might consider a few steps (pun intended) to reduce the strain on their staff. read more

I arrived right at 8am when theh opened so I was happy that they were actually ready ti take my order immediately. I ordered the potato and egg taco with a corn tortilla. Omg was it tiny but tasty! I didn't know what to expect but it was a flavor explosion of taste in my mouth! Soo good it was heavy on the chimmichuri, spice and flavor perfection. I do wish it were bigger though. This place was such a fun find! It's a plant based coffee shop with calm vibes inside. We wandered in for a morning breakfast and were not disappointed. We got a gingersnap chai (SO GOOD), a mumbai sandwich, and a kbbq taco. The food was pretty good, I'm not sure what flavor profile I expected w the kbbq taco but nonetheless it tasted good! I've finally found a coffee shop that has offers consistently good coffee and great customer service. I've visited several times and everyone is extremely friendly and inviting. My favorite drink is a Cortado with oat milk the espresso reminds me or raw cacao beans it's really intense and I love it. I'm not much of a latte person because I enjoy tasting my espresso. With that being said I do like the chai latte. They offer various baked goods that rotate so you can discover new things but my vice is the salt rosemary focaccia! I used to come here all the time back in 2015-2016, and then I moved to Austin and forgot about this place when I moved back! A friend suggested it recently and I was so excited to try it out. I remember loving this place! A lot has changed, it's more spacious than I recall, and the menu is now entirely plant based, I do remember it was very vegetarian friendly but if I recall correctly before they did serve regular whole milk, so it was a bit of a change. I don't mind plant based at all- but my fave plant based milks are coconut or pistachio milk. Almond/ soy/ oat are just too watery and I don't like the taste. For a place that's plant based they didn't have much in the way of options, my friend ordered before me and has the almond milk London Fog, and when I went to order they had ran out of almond milk. It was 10:30am on a Saturday so a bit early to run out. They only had soy to offer me, no thanks. I went with their water based hibiscus drink instead. They had a special of the day which was a three bean chili, served with focaccia. My friend and I both ordered a serving each. When it came out, it was not served with the bread. My friend and I were chatting away and thought it's fine we'll wait as we were catching up anyways. Well after about 15 minutes she went and asked for the bread, and was told oh whoops, okay let us get that for you. It took another 15 minutes to get her bread, so 30 minutes after it was served and her chili was cold. Meanwhile, I was still waiting for my serving. I finally asked and the main barista mentioned she noticed I hadn't received my food and that she's asked in the kitchen and apparently they've also ran out of chili. I do understand these things happen, it was pretty appalling that they chose to do nothing about it until I had to ask after my food and the delay. They offered my alternatives, and given that wait and delay, I wasn't willing to risk it. I had a hard stop, so I asked for a refund which they granted promptly. I don't understand how or why their service was so poor, it's not like they're new, and again it was so early in the day to be running out of food and milk. I don't think I'll be coming back which is disappointing given the fond memories I had of this place. read more

We were in Houston for a relaxing vacation and had this coffee shop on our list ahead of time since we're vegan and wanted a solid spot for coffee and a light breakfast. We ended up going twice--and both visits were great. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the coffee and food were spot-on. My wife had the hot pistachio latte (with a perfect little swan on top), and I had it iced--both were creamy, flavorful, and beautifully balanced. She ordered the Mumbai Sandwich, which the staff described as a deconstructed samosa--it didn't disappoint. Incredible flavor that kept you coming back for another bite. I believe one of them might be a chimichurri the other one I don't know, but delicious fresh flour, tortilla, or corn of your choice. Will, we ordered the staff told us he had some fresh roasted potatoes coming out in like 10 minutes. If you wanted to wait I waited. I'm glad I did made the taco even better to drink. I got 2 tacos on my visit and the jackfruit chick'n was a big surprise! It was flavorful and tender. However, the korean BBQ taco left me a little disappointed. While it was still flavorful, it tasted overly salty to me, which is a common challenge of imitating meat dishes not unique to here. Also the pistachio latte here is also delicious! I went there because it kept popping up for Vegetarian lunch, which this year, since I am doing this 'vegan on the weekdays' jam I need more veg options while I perambulate the streets of Houston. There aren't many options, I saw more on the reviews prior with a more expanded menu, but today it was just a selection of 4 tacos so I chose two. The tacos were okay. The Hibiscus tea was hibiscus tea. The spot was diverse, many people knew each other, seemed like a go-to spot for the neighborhood. Services was limited to behind the counter. Not sure I would drive across town to return but if I were hungry and happened to be in 3 mile radius, I would return to see if the other items on the menu return ie the sandwiches and flatbreads. read more

Doshi House is a quaint coffee shop located in third ward district of Houston. Parking is not too bad with a couple gravel spots in the front. The interior and ambiance is very cozy. It feels like there's a lot of decor/things going on at once but it fits together and is cohesive. The service was nice overall. The cashier took my order and fielded any questions I had but no other complaints or complements from me. I ordered the Pistachio latte* and one chocolate chip cookie. The chocolate chip cookie came straight out the oven as it was (still) on the baking tray. The cookie was a standard salted chocolate chip cookie and paired nicely with my coffee. The Pistachio latte is a Doshi signature drink so I opted for that. The coffee was not too bitter or too sweet - good for the balance in between. It also had chunks(?) of the syrup or flavoring which was part of the drink. Haven't had a texture like that with my coffee (different case for boba) so was surprised. Overall, Doshi House is a very solid coffee shop with a wide array to select from and would visit here and there again. *They only have oat, almond, or soy milk choices. The eggs are so light and fluffy that the tender, perfectly seasoned baton potatoes, (cilantro?)chutney, fresh onions and fresh cilantro complement so well and serve to keep the eggs from floating away. Wash it down with a perfectly crafted (any) latte. I visited Doshi House for the first time last weekend. I wasn't familiar with this place until my Yelp friend Pree suggested it. I can always count on her to introduce me to vegetarian/vegan places around town. Parking is a tad confusing but we realized you can park in the small lot up front or on the street (there's plenty of street parking). It appears that the lot is also shared with Project Row Houses so read the signs before you park. The inside is cute and cozy. The tables are spaced pretty close together, but there's a good amount of seating inside. There's also a back patio with more seating. I ordered the Just Egg and Potato taco. It was really good. I've never had Just Egg before, but it tasted like regular eggs. The chimichurri was very flavorful and I enjoyed the cilantro and diced onion. I just wish the taco would have been bigger. One taco was $5. I had the Sunset Tonic which was refreshing, especially since it was a warm day. I love coffee, but was in the mood for something different. Doshi House has a cozy vibe and is perfectly situated on the corner of Emancipation and Holman Street, near the Project Row Houses. I met with fellow Houston Yelp Elite Tiffany for a Sunday afternoon get-together. The parking situation was confusing at first, but we were able to confirm that some of the lot right outside Doshi House is for customers, and parking along Homan Street seemed to be okay. Since it was a warm Sunday, I was in the mood for a cold latte. They have a variety of unique drinks and flavors (not just coffee even), but I opted for the "Pistachio" iced, which was primarily composed of pistachio, cardamom, and cane syrup. They have fun pastries like vegan cinnamon rolls, muffins, and dessert bars, but their savory options are limited to tacos. The tacos are all vegan-friendly, which was something I learned only when I got there. Pleasant surprise! For my taco, I got the "Not So Butter Chik'n", which came with seasoned soy protein, a robust vegan butter chick'n sauce, plus cilantro & onion. My only complaint was that the taco was on the "pricey" side looking at how small the taco was, but at least my latte was flavorful and even with the ice, was a full 16oz. I'd love to come back and try some of the other drinks on their menu. I also saw a lot of people working on their laptops, and they offer free wifi, so it is indeed a great place to work and change up the scenery. read more

I've been coming here for a long time, before there was a real parking lot, and renovations, etc. I've always liked coming here, and I love the upgrades to the seating and tables. My only issue is that the property always looks deserted. It seems like the owner doesn't care about the ambiance in the outside area and the exterior grounds in general. The greenery and general landscaping is rarely kept up. If I wasn't already familiar with this place, I'd prob skip over it. read more

I echo all the reviews calling this place a gem! This little coffee shop was a block away from our Airbnb and we took full advantage of the proximity! The interior is cozy and warm with quite a few tables to sit at (and with WiFi! I worked from here for a few hours). There's an adorable back patio with swinging chairs and a to-go window to make it easy to pick up your order without heading back inside.
