Melissa and Kyra have worked wonders for me. I first came in to Mantis after healing up from a sarcoma tumor that was removed from my leg (after 2 surgeries and radiation treatment). I had been to physical therapy, which helped for the immediate recovery. My overall strength began to come back and movement slowly got easier. Once physical therapy ended, it was recommended that i see a massage therapist for long-term maintenance. When I first came in, the muscles were atrophied, the range of motion in my leg was still very limited and the scar tissue was super-sensitive. The first time a came in, Kyra was very kind and knowledgable about how to treat my situation. I could tell by the great energy in the room, the music being played and the healing quality of the treatment that I would be coming back as long as they keep the doors open. I have been seeing both Kyra and Melissa for close to year and since then, my scar tissue sensitivity has decreased greatly. Its been a bit over a year since my last massage (in another city). I recently started working as a mechanic, and have been bicycling to work, so am now using a lot of muscles that haven't been used much lately! My massage was with Abby, who spent a few minutes asking questions before we got started, where I explained the mechanic job and biking. I had a 90 minute massage, because I've found 60 was just not enough time. By the end, Abby mentioned in my case, 120 minutes would have been a better choice for the next visit, and I totally agreed! I'm already booked for my next appointment with Abby, in a few weeks. Her knowledge of how the muscles work together, and how to get them to release, as well as her touch, use of appropriate pressure, and keeping me informed as she found trouble areas was fantastic. I've had several massages with Laura after a car accident injured my neck last fall. She is focused and serious about her work, and I've gotten much more relief from her than I have from other massage therapists at pricier places around Austin. She always provides a great high-pressure deep tissue massage, releasing pain at persistent trigger points, and she gives good suggestions on how to reduce pain at home. She has an intuitive sense of when to dig deeper and when to ease off pressure. Laura has also helped me track the progress of my recovery--even though I only see her every couple of weeks, she remembers what injuries I'm struggling with and lets me know which areas feel more or less inflamed than before. I appreciate Mantis's easy booking process and low prices. I also appreciate the simplicity of their location--no lobby full of expensive products for sale, just massage rooms and a waiting area. I just had a 60 minute massage from her, after a month of pretty severe back pain caused by a mishap on the golf course. Man oh man. I've never and I mean NEVER in my life had a better massage (and I've had quite a few). First of all, my back pain is now nonexistent, so that result speaks for itself. But what was really impressive was the unmistakable depth of Monica's knowledge. She's as precise and knowledgeable as a surgeon (but make no mistake--the massage felt great), and is clearly deeply intellectually interested in the workings of the human body. Do yourself a favor, get a Kyra massage. Kyra is a great! She's been my massage therapist for well over a year now and I won't use anyone else. She is very intuitive when it comes to the aches and pains of my body. I have Sacro-Illiac joint issues which cause a lot of pain in the hips and down my legs. Kyra is always mindful and aware of my chronic pain and does a great job getting the appropriate muscles to release and relax. She also does an East Indian Head Massage which involves scalp, skull, face and jaw work that is incredibly tension relieving. As a yoga instructor it is very important that I trust my massage therapist to know my body, my pressure threshold and my body mechanics. Kyra is an excellent Massage Therapist. I've been doing 90 minute sessions weekly with her for the past several months. I have some nagging degenerative discs in my neck and upper back that cause chronic stiffness and pain, and her therapy has by far been the most helpful intervention. She is able to do both deep and detailed work, and unlike other therapists, she's very open to suggestions and interactive. She does a great whole body massage and will focus on the trouble spots I ask her to pay special attention to. As a physician, I whole heartedly recommend her to patients, friends, and anyone that would benefit from a massage. Holy deep-tissue batman!!! I had some body work done by Kyra (forgive me if I spelled the name incorrectly). Kyra the owner was very professional and did a great job working on tightness in my neck, back muscles and calf muslces. I had to go to Mantis because my shoulder muscles and back are killing me. The day before I got there, I had to sit and rest my back against the wall from time to time. It was difficult to even simply stand. It was stress and overwhelm. So I decided to go to Mantis and use the Yelp voucher. I was so surprised how Kyra has great pressure for her size.
