I have been a frequent client (About once every 3 weeks) of Mantis Massage for about a year now, and I have to say the personnel at this no frills true body works massage studio have been life changing. My job is pretty demanding and takes quite a toll on my body (and it doesn't help I'm one of the smallest instructors in the company world-wide). Without Mantis Massage, I probably wouldn't still be able to do the job I love, so I really appreciate everything Kyra and her staff have done for me. So much that even when I move to San Antonio, on my Wednesdays days off I will still make the drive every 3 weeks for my "tune up." I initially started seeing Kyra almost exclusively, and she really gets into the troublesome areas. She's definitely not for the faint of heart. Looks can be deceiving, but be warned, she can definitely make a grown man cry. I have been very hesitant to say yes when she asks if I would like more pressure because even though I probably needed more pressure, I was unsure if I could take it. I remember one time she asked for more pressure and I said yes, and she let out a surprised "really?!" She then tied her hair up and took off her shoes and proclaimed that she "was ready to beat me up." I'll be honest, I was scared. That being said, she's always been able to tear my body down and reconstruct it even better than ever. A bonus is she's always given me advice on stretching and strengthening. I will always try to have her every other rotation when I visit Mantis. But she's not the only amazing therapist at this location, as I've seen multiple therapists at Mantis when I forget to schedule with Kyra. My first "emergency" massage session was with Monica. Not only did she work out my troubles when I was in a pinch but she also noted that certain areas of my body was actually overstretched. It turns out a lot of things I was doing was making the situation only worse, and with great advice I have been able to turn it around and help alleviate the problem. Next in line for an "emergency" visit was with Ash. She targeted a different aspect and helped me with my body's realignment. Her advice for me at the end of the session was indeed helpful but the most difficult to implement (She told me to not use my thumbs so much and gave me a good set of stretches). For the longest time I've been straining my neck and destroying my posture thanks to my dependency on my cell phone. I have a game plan, which is being SLOWLY implemented (since for me it's very difficult to give up the cell phone). Although she didn't specifically say cell phone, I'm pretty sure that's what she was hinting at. About 3 months ago, I started rotating between Kyra with Kalli. Now watch out for Kalli, she's a great therapist who gets at the heart of the problem but she is a sales women through and through. I walked in with a wreck body, walked out good as new but with magnesium supplements, UCAN bars, a well-made head band, half a cup of lemonade, some Liberty cards, a scorpion creepy crawly, and an awful tasting "hamburger" from a McDonalds Happy Meal Magic Maker from 1993! All kidding aside, she's got the elbows of a goddess and works wonders. Well, she actually did clue me in on the benefits of magnesium (and I was definitely lacking) and suggested heat as a form of relaxing my muscles (just not to the point where I burn myself and cause a blister...but that was my own ingenious fault.) And these aren't the only amazing therapists, but I'm sure the other reviewers here can clue you in on the amazing work from other therapists that I have heard so much about but haven't yet tried. You can't go wrong with anyone here, so if you've given up on chronic pain issues without a fix, I highly recommend you schedule a visit immediately with any of the therapists at Mantis. read more

I came in a few months ago, scheduling was easy online. Based on the reviews here, I had high expectations. Unfortunately they were not met. I think the massage I received was myofacial release, some rubbing and pinching of the skin. While the pain wasn't bad during the massage, afterwards I noticed my hand was going numb and a bruise was left under my arm. No big deal except that I was feeling terrible later than night. I'm pretty holistic and prefer to not take medication but I had to take an asprin. I did drink water and consume vitamin C as recommended. The discomfort lasted a week. No real malice, just wanted to share my experience for others to read and be aware of. read more

Kyra rocks! This charming young lady has some strong hands. She just about gave me a short-circuit in my brain when she worked on the back of my neck. Woohoo! This was my first massage at Mantis: it was pretty thorough but the best part was the pressure, which is usually not hard enough for me. Kyra has the power! She also seems to know a lot about anatomy. She observed and informed me about how mangled I am, due to multiple back injuries and motorcycle wrecks. It's good to know I'm not a hypochondriac just imagining these things. I showed up about five minutes before my appointment, got a parking space right in front of their door, and didn't have to wait at all, they set me right up. The space is cool. It smells good and the temperature in the room was perfect -- which are two persnickety things of mine, so I was instantly inclined to trust these people and relax . I was visiting Austin from Australia and was in desperate need of a massage after travelling. I rang a place near where I was staying but upon arrival they told me the masseuse was only there on Mondays and Wednesdays. Needless to say I was super annoyed. I rang around half a dozen places trying to get an appointment before coming across Mantis. I made the booking online which was easy to use, and was given a session with Kelsey. I am a massage addict and have one ever 2 weeks on average, and have had massages all over the world including spas in Thailand and Vietnamese bath houses. I can confidently say the massage I received from Kelsey ranks in the top 3 massages I've ever had in my life. I wasn't just a massage, it was a full sensory experience! This place was great! I have been looking for a deep tissue massage to help with my back for a long time. I have had chronic pain since hurting my back in Iraq. Most massage therapists only hit the surface of my back problems, but Laura-Ann was the exception. She was very professional, and empathetic towards my issues. She was able to identify all the trouble areas and apply fierce pressure to resolve them. I even felt bad, because I could tell she was working hard to break up the boulder size knots in my back. I would highly recommend Laura-Ann to anyone. As for the establishment, it was clean and peaceful inside. You wouldn't think so from the area it's in, but it is a really nice place. I haven't left a review on yelp that I am aware of, but I felt compelled to write one after the massage I received from Kyra. I have never received a deep tissue massage before this one so I dont have a basis to judge the massage against and I didn't know what to expect going in there. I am glad I checked the reviews here and made the decision to pick this place. As soon as I walked in I was greeted. Kyra is very professional and for a person that size has more strength that I had imagined. She made sure to check and make sure the pressure wasn't too hard. That was the most relaxing hour I have had in years. She is very talented and I could tell by the massage she knew exactly what she is doing. I cant recommend enough. I'm not a regular, consistent massage-getter - I do get massages fairly often (every couple of months), but I don't have a regular appointment with a particular therapist. This is mostly because I haven't really found a great massage therapist since moving to Austin. Mantis Massage is a bit of a conundrum for me in the sense that it's now my go-to massage place, but I've yet to commit to a single therapist. All 3 of my appointments so far have been booked somewhat last-minute, so I haven't had the same therapist any of those times. However, all 3 were great in their own way (as trite as that sounds). My first session was with Abbey, who is very strong and was able to give me the deep tissue pressure I'm always looking for in a massage. Next I had Ash, who hit a spot in my lumbar region that I had never noticed before, and released tension I didn't even know I had. Lastly, I just got back from a 45-minute session with Monica, who is very intuitive in finding knots, and is communicative to help work through trouble areas. For the recipient, massage is mostly passive, but with Monica I feel like I was able to accomplish more meaningful therapy with the communication and cooperation- certain movements and ways to breathe helped me get through some major problem areas that were really bothering me (I booked the appointment just this morning because I woke up with horrible back pain - Monica got the problematic knot knocked out). So, Mantis is a conundrum for me because I'd like to find a singular therapist to continue to work with, but all of the staff I've worked with so far have been great, making this hard too choose. As such, I'm pretty confident you can't go wrong with any of their therapists. Also, the atmosphere is great - not pretentious or disingenuously faux-zen. It's pretty perfect. read more

I got a 60 minute session with Monica. She is absolutely brilliant. I felt pain free the whole day. She treated more muscle tissue than my Airrosti Dr did. I need more work for sure. Absolutely would recommend Monica and I have been talking about her to all my friends. She is absolutely incredible. Two people already expressed interest in going in based on my recommendation. I came to visit Mantis Massage for a relatively non-traditional reason (health issue, rather than simple relaxation) and Kelsey absolutely put me at ease. I scheduled a very short massage, 30 minutes, because it was all that would fit. And it was with someone new...fine because I keep meaning to try out more people since my favorite Kelsey moved. The day before my appointment, I got a message that my therapist was sick. But they were able to re-schedule me with someone else and it turned out to be Kelsey! She had me so relaxed in 30 minutes that I was amazed (but barely awake). Even when she heads home again, I'll keep going back looking for a new favorite. The scheduling is just so easy and they consistently meet my ridiculous ideas of when to get a massage (Early morning Sunday? After work Tuesday? Sure). Appointments are on time and the space is clean and unfussy. The level of advanced training has been high so I feel confident that a new favorite won't be hard to find. Meh. Not the injured body knowledge that wS advertised. I NEED SOME TOUCH, And although she was really sweet, I left wanting. You know the hippie ding clink music, I assume it's known to calm? I'm so sorry, really, but ithe gong-style sound in my ear made me crazy inside and really I couldn't wait to get out of there. It was rote, that standard 'route' from feet to shoulder blades. Very safe, no questions, although it's very clear my body has been seriously broken and put back together again-- why, why when I mentioned the concentration on injured muscles and what I know to be beneficial spiritually and physically - not a graze even. She asked me for a tip about 25%, so I actually had to run to ATM and go back. No thank you call or note, btw. Anyway, after having been so darn happy the'd accepted me as a 1st time client, thinkigrhst via yelp and their own descriptive, I'd be having just what I neeeded--I woulda paid more, I woulda waited a day, but I was brought in under clear verbal hopes extant on my end, only to fall in seemingly altered attention and intake. I am super bummed. My body is just kind of shivering because I really need some intuitive and knowledgable MANUPULATION of my poor injured wrecked but strong core body. C'mon - I'd hope in sperfecthopethst even a personal trainer /masseuse/strength guide could be out there. I had an appointment yesterday and the experience could not have been better! I'd never had a massage before so I was a little nervous, but Kyra made me feel incredibly comfortable and at ease. She had to start a bit late, it could not have been more than 10 minutes, but she assured me I would still get the full 60 minutes and she even gave me nearly half off her already beyond reasonable price because of the delay! So awesome. Like others have said, Kyra is a tiny little thing, but appearances can be deceiving - this lady is STRONG. Keep in mind, this isn't a spa - if you're looking for face masks and cucumber water, Mantis Massage probably isn't what you want. But if you're just looking for a straight up therapeutic massage to heal and realign your achey muscles (and advice on how to prevent them in the future), definitely make an appointment. read more

Mantis was recommended to me by my daughter, who goes there frequently to address issues related to her stressful job. Hillary was wonderful at working on knots in my neck, shoulders, and back, and she located a lot of stress I wasn't even aware of in my chest and arms, which responded well to the stretching she incorporated into the massage, as well as some stretching exercises she recommended afterwards. Scalp, face, hand, and foot massages were relaxing and restorative, very thorough and thoughtful. I recommend at least a 90-minute massage to really get into "The Zone." An hour is just never enough! I scheduled my Sunday appointment the day before with Mauro. Their availability on short notice was the 1st thing that made me happy because I was dealing with a crossfit injury.
