Veggie Plate
Natalie N.

last week i was trying to find a halal butcher. after trying two different spots that google maps said were open (turned out one was closed for renovation & the other was completely just... obliterated), i found goodies market. while walking down the hill there, i walked past this place. i was starving, so i said "after i shop, i will get lunch from here." i didn't realize it but this place is primarily cash. they take doordash and uber eats orders tho so if you don't have cash you can just order pickup thru the app. you can even eat it there if you want. the inside is decorated cutely with pictures and articles about beirut & lebanon in general. it's also very neat! the owner kai was super nice. i was telling him my escapades trying to find halal meat in seattle... he agreed that it's rough out here. after that, he got to work on my food. i got the veggie plate. goodness gracious it was so delicious. i had one last-minute errand after i received my food so it was kinda cold by the time i got to it, but it was still so delicious. i immediately went for the warak 3nab and even cold they were mouth-watering. i ate about half of the plate and saved the rest for my lunch. so worth it. next time i will actually try the man'oushe! if you're in lake city, check this place out.

**vegetarian review** This place is such a gem!!! It's right above goodies Mediterranean store which I frequent. The prices are so reasonable for the high quality food!!! I got the flayfieh flatbread and the spinach and cheese flatbread. They were both so fresh and delectable. I also got the falafel sandwich and baba gabouj which came with a huge fresh pita. I thought we had ordered too much food for 2 but it was so delicious that we quickly finished it all!! Note this place is cash only.

If you like great food at a great price, I highly recommend checking this place out. They're a little hard to find once you arrive but take the alley/ramp down into the parking lot and you can park for free. BRING CASH, as they are an only cash business. They are attached to a middle eastern grocery store which I recommend you also check out for some awesome goodies. Being Lebanese, I've tried many manoushes and I can say this one is phenomenal!! Super light, fluffy and flavorful. They definitely deserve more recognition! The service was also wonderful!

What a great find! My friend and I were excited to check out the attached grocery store when we noticed the restaurant. Service was quick and friendly. Amazing menu options, we decided to get a few things to share. Plenty of seating. We loved everything we tried and are already talking about coming back. Remember to bring cash but they also have an atm if you forget.

This is a 4.5 star but I rounded down a little. I was hoping to stop by soon so I can confirm my rating but I haven't done that :) so I will write a review now and update later. Parking is a little difficult but not too bad. We got the "pizza" and the cheesy fries. I originally wanted to get the falafel and the Greek fries but the cheesy fries sounds tempting so we got that instead. The "pizza" was really good, I really enjoyed everything about it. The cheesy fries was just ok for me. It was a lot but the flavor wasn't amazing. Everything ingredients was good but it didn't work well together in my opinion. I definitely want to come back to try their falafel and Greek fries. Definitely come for the pizza though that was really good

This is the most popular food vendor in the store as it is located right in the front of the building. Way better than Starbucks. They serve Victrola coffee here. My favorite is their London Fog latte. They also have some good food options. You can get breakfast of course. Grab one of their many pastries and/or breakfast sandwiches. You can also grab lunch, as they have many sandwich, salad, and soup of the day options. My favorite food items are the deluxe croissant and the meat pie. One the negative, I will say that they have raised the prices on many of their items. The meat pies have gone up to almost 8 bucks for one, so I stopped buying it. As far as their baked goods, there are other better bakeries out here. The team is really good at making the items appealing and pretty, but once you taste it, you might be underwhelmed or even disgusted. My mom and I shared a slice of their black and white cake and we quickly realized that they use shortening for frosting. My mom and I both cook/bake, so we instantly knew once we tasted it. We decided to eat around the shortening and only ingest the cake. After we ate the cake, we were left with solid blocks of shortening, and realized that the cake to shortening ratio was way off. It was actually disgusting. If you like to munch on sweetened saturated fat, then you will like this cake. I would never order one from here knowing what they use to make their frosting. I will stick to my London Fog and other favorites.

My brother, who also lives and works in the area, tells me constantly how awful the customer service is there when you order food- to the point where he refuses to go. I'm celiac and can't eat anything over there so I hadn't ever experienced what I did today. Today we're at the bookstore together and I decided we need to make a coffee stop. My brother, Loren, orders a sandwich. He says he needs it to go. Person at the register is pleasant enough. I order a coffee separately and am quickly served. We wait a bit for the sandwich, and we finally go up to the counter after maybe ten minutes and see the same sandwich he ordered sitting in a basket. It has a ticket on it that says "Owen." Easy mistake, really. He says, "Is this maybe Loren's?" And the person behind the counter immediately snaps "it says Owen." Okay. So we wait a few more minutes. We're now 15 minutes out and several people who ordered after us are served. He steps up and say "hey, I ordered a BLTA on sourdough for Loren, I think it may have been put in under Owen, but-" and before he can finish his thought they snap back at him again "it's probably yours because this one hasn't been picked up." At this point he's like, "okay, I ordered mine to go- could I-" and the girl behind the counter slams a box on the counter and says "here's a box." And turns away. I'm annoyed, because while I understand we have inconvenienced you, who is standing here chatting with an off-duty coworker for 30 minutes, we literally did nothing to deserve the attitude. Loren scoops the sandwich out of the basket and puts it into the box and this girl has the nerve to turn around and say "dirty dishes go behind you at the service bar." Oh, so now we have to bus YOUR hand-off bar, too? No sorry, no thank you, not even the offer to box up his food or put away the freaking basket. Is it because Loren is very clearly not white? Or is it because this lady today had a bad day and took it out on someone for interrupting her mid-shift gossip about how the mall security is full of idiots who don't do their job? Go ahead and take a gamble and let me know, because I won't be back.

I tried to revisit once during the holiday season, but the pastry case was cleaned out except for three cookies. I had much better luck stopping in and hanging out onsite (1/8/26). Same welcoming counter person/barista. Better available variety, and I opted for the featured special, 12oz mocha and a pain au chocolat for $9, which was a great value! There were just two others onsite. There were a lot of takeout customers, including regulars, that I observed while onsite at a nearby two top. My mocha was decent, the pain au chocolat was fresh, good flavor and texture, despite being pretty hollow. The photo I took created quite the illusion, looked like it had mass quantities of melty chocolate. Despite the bakery/cafe has an unassuming, now faded yellow exterior and well worn interior, French and Vietnamese inspired Grand Pere Bakery has quite the longevity record and staying power since March 2014. Then you chose to increase prices and decrease the quantity, which didn't make sense. Less for more? What a waste of a great idea - greed is why your business model didn't work. Your business was so hot when it opened and it actually went downhill about 6 years ago and I am not sad to see you go. Josh - to respond to your comment. My note should have inspired some reflection with the business model but it didn't. Your level of greed was insane and that is not forgiven here. You started hot and decided to squeeze more than your share from this business and this is what happens. You messed around and found out. It's sad because I actually supported the business when it opened but quickly had to end my dealings due to the high level of greed. You did this to your own business by wanting more, more and more, so please don't play the victim here. I'm sorry that you're saddened by this but what you did to the community is far worse than what I said. Actually ripping people off with your product is not having humanity. I'm not the inhumane one here and let's get that straight. I didn't rip people off - you did! You got what you deserved and that's that. You likely have time to turn things around but I doubt you can reduce your greed in time. If you do, I'll gladly come back and support yall. Again - food was great and greed was not.
