I was craving some spicy ahi today and I wanted to go somewhere close. So I decided to try out Manoa Sushi! I've been told that their Crunch Bowls are SUPER good, but it's not what I expected. ***What I ordered **Crunch Don ~ (5/10) The spicy ahi sits on top of a vegetable pancake. The pancake was a little soggy and the fish quality wasn't the best. Although, this isn't bad for a quick on the go food! Honestly, I'm glad that the rice wasn't dry either! Overall, I would come here if I need a quick fix in the area, but other than that I don't think I will be coming here very often.

What a pretty good place. I have been craving for a good poke bowl. And I believe I just found it!! The Crunch Don was amazing. Love the freshness and the flavor. I would for sure come back.

We've passed by Manoa Sushi numerous times on our many visits to Manoa Marketplace. We're usually there fairly early - to go shopping at the Farmer's Market or to pick up some breakfasty things at Brug or Fendu, and Manoa Sushi isn't typically open at that time. So, the other day, as lunch time approached and our daughters were craving sushi, we figured we'd head there to give them a try (instead of going to one of our standard sushi stops). We ordered: tamago, inari, crunch don, and veg tempura curry. Tamago and inari are pretty basic, so it's hard to mess those up in my opinion. Although, having said that, our girls are tamago snobs and have the criticized the taste of the tamago from some other places. Happy to say that Manoa Sushi's tamago satisfied their discerning palates. The other items were so-so. The veg tempura in the crunch don and veg tempura curry were a little bland. So was the poke on the crunch don. The flavor on the curry was ok. Not the best we've had, but also not the worst. Shop was very clean. Service was very pleasant, especially since communicating through masks and broken English (them, not me) can be challenging. Food was ready quickly. Since we were getting take out, they put the curry in a separate container - instead of pouring it on the tempura and having it get soggy. Wasn't expecting that. Very thoughtful. Oddly, there's a $ minimum to pay with a credit card. Really? COVID protocols - Masks for customers and staff. No indoor seating/dining. Take-out only. Support local businesses!

Save your money and go buy your poke at Safeway or Off the Hook. My picky child who only likes Tamago nigiri insisted I purchased his lunch from here. $6 is such a rip off for some thin egg slices. Only 3 pieces! Also, is there a Nori Shortage? The amount of Nori used is laughable. Idk how people afford sushi here. Their outdoor menu has no prices, it forces you to go inside. Avoid.

Love love love this place especially for their crunch don. If you can't handle heat, stay away from their spicy ahi because it packs a punch (keep a glass of water nearby). Their prices are pretty high but you get what you pay for and it satisfies all your sushi cravings. They also have signs saying that there's a 15$ minimum if you want to pay card but my meal was 13$ and they still accepted my card transaction.

It's hit or miss here. The prices are rather high, and to pay by credit card, the total has to be at least $10 or $15. Quality of the sushi rolls is not bad, though. I haven't been able to find a decent spicy veggie roll, and I don't mind too much paying $3.29 (or so) for one. Except the one time I went on Sunday and they ran out of avocado. Went back on Monday evening and bought one to go, because they were very clearly put out that I came in at 6:40pm, supposed to close at 6:50pm). There was a sign on all the tables- not allowed to dine in after 6:30pm. Hmmm. My handroll was done in record time, like 2 minutes, if even, and as soon as I stepped out at 6:45pm, they closed shop. It's strange because during the daytime, the cashiers are always friendly and helpful. Anyway I got home and saw that my handroll sort of shrunk. If they continue being surly and cheap, I may not want to come back.

    Funny sign

The ikura chiraishi bowl is not as good as it looks. The ika tasted fishy. The slices were so thin. The tamago slice was so thin that it fell apart. The rice was not flavorful enough. It was sushi rice but it was missing something. Probably not coming back here although the service was fast.

We had a 7pm reservation that I booked through Yelp. We arrived a few minutes before our time, and was quickly seated in a "cozy" little table for 2. This place is crackin' though. It's loud and energetic. Mostly because it's a small little place down a side street on Beach Walk. The staff is super friendly, and the food is even better. I had the pork and shrimp katsu set, and my husband had fancy pork katsu set. We also had edamame to start. Everything came out sizzling hot and to perfection. I should also mention, this place is clean. The staff was constantly cleaning tables and menus. I'm giving Ginza only 4 stars because no one ever came to refill our drinks. I know it's such a small thing, but I accidentally ate some of the spicy mustard that was buried on my plate under the salad. My mouth was ON FIRE! I drank all my Diet Coke and my husband had already finished his drink too. So ya, I was dying...lol! Overall though, I would 100% eat at Ginza again

Very random one morning after stopping by kona purveyors in Waikiki, I went to the restroom and while my husband was waiting for me he decided to randomly check if they had any reservations available and we were able to get one for the next day! Getting a reservation is definitely the way to go, I've seen people wait in standby however seating is not guaranteed since they prioritize those who have a reservation. The service was amazing! They are constantly checking up on you to see if you need anything else. I like how they offer different kinds of miso soup. I personally had limitations due to my shellfish allergy, but it was amazing! The katsu we ordered was one of the biggest one that they offer. It's crazy how big the katsu was and surprisingly it was super crispy, light, and even juicy in the inside! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to try katsu in hawaii!

Since we didn't get reservations we had to do walk in. The waitlist didn't seem bad when we first signed up but it took forever to finally get a table. It was a hot day so we were waiting outside, for nearly an hour. There were only like two or three parties ahead of us on the waitlist. We finally got seated and the people right after us on the list got seated at the same time (they put their name 15 min after us). I would not recommend the waitlist, since it's not consistent. The food itself is always delicious. The new space was nice (and larger). Our server was very nice also. We both got tonkatsu. I got the mizore and my partner got the sizzling one. I appreciate the choices of rice and miso soup. I really enjoyed my Shiso rice and the white miso soup. I think even though I enjoyed the ground daikon but I also think I would've been happy with just a regular tonkatsu, similar for the sizzling platter.

I've been to Mitch's a few times and when I saw that they opened up an Izakaya next door, I knew I had to try it and made a reservation on Yelp. Izakaya Mitch's specializes more in cooked dishes while the other side is more about the fresh / raw fish. But that didn't stop us from ordering the assorted sashimi. All the fish were from Japan and yes you can taste the difference. The fatty tuna was obviously my favorite but even the regular tuna and the hamachi was so buttery, it just melts in your mouth. Plus, it comes with real wasabi. Not horseradish, real wasabi. For the cooked dishes we got the hokkaido crab tempura with a side of matcha salt. One of the best tempuras I've ever had. The kamameshi, a rice dish with their fish of the day. We got the half order and it's kinda like a bibimbap where they mix the rice for you at your table. I saw that people were raving about this on Yelp and put in our order right when we got in because it takes 25-ish minutes to prepare. On special, they had a karei karaage. Karei is a flat fish and I've never had a fish karaage before, it was perfectly fried and dipped in the ponzu sauce it was so good.
