Today I bought 3 platters to give for Christmas and 1 for my family,so total 4... so disappointed. I'm embarrassed that I gave sushi that was subpar. I should have tried it first vs going by the reviews. The rice was dry and there was no flavor! They got a one for customer service. read more

Inconsistent hand roll sizes: why is it big one day and small the next for the same price? Refused to add cucumber to an ikura hand roll even though I offered to pay for both hand rolls if they would combo for us. Nope...she said to combo it myself from the 2 hand rolls she was willing to make. Never again.... read more

After passing this place for years, my son who is a Poke Bowl connoisseur, begged me to pick him up lunch from here. Within seconds, my son chose the Crunchy Don which is Spicy Tuna and Vegetable Tempura on Rice. I was able to quickly take a picture... it looked a bit small for the $11 price tag, which is the only reason I deducted a star. The Poke bowls at Aloha Cones are a little more stuffed and are cheaper. As far as taste and quality, the fish is cut in uniform, smaller cubes which I like. It is mixed with Tobiko and even amount of Mayonnaise and Spicy sauce. My son said it was delicious, but maybe a tad spicier than others? The veggie tempura on the other hand was crispy, light and delicious, and was drizzled with an Unagi like sauce? The combination together hit the spot! I guess we will be returning! read more

Manoa Sushi - Japanese Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

We love love love this place. We drive all the way from the west side to here. My boyfriend has been taking me here way before we even dated. We were just friends & this place grew on me.. it's been a little over three years & I keep skimping on the fact I need to review this little sushi shop. I come here for their Ebi Rolls & My boyfriend only orders their spicy ahi don. Before I could never handle the spice of their bowl but it's actually tolerable now for someone who rarely eats spicy foods. We are loyal customers & come here at least once a week since we are always down for sushi. read more

The curry here is watery and not very good. I know, that's what I get for ordering curry at a sushi place. It is not Japanese style curry that most ramen/curry houses serve. The consistency is very runny like soup... I can't really comment about the sushi since the only ones that we ordered were for my kids - the egg nigiri and a spam musubi (which was more like spam sushi since they used the sushi rice) The teriyaki chicken salad was good! It came with two different sauces - one clear looking one and one orange one that tasted like French dressing on fire. I just dumped both of them on the salad since I wasn't sure what they were for. It was better than I expected. We come here every 6 months, after the dentist appointment upstairs. And that's the only reason. read more

Simplistic decorations. Speedy service. Enough seating. Good variety of types of sushi. Prices are pretty standard. It's a convenient location in manoa marketplace. once, I had to ask for ginger so make sure you've got that before heading out for a to go order if you want it. I really this sushi joint, and come often for the veggie and hand rolls read more

I bought a variety of hand rolls and hoso maki rolls for the family, spending about $40 worth. There was something for everyone, including our vegetarian and there was a decent amount of filling. But... the rice was hard. Too hard to eat and we ended up throwing away our half-eaten rolls. Sad and disappointing. read more

Just like Lanie, I too think the spicy ahi salad is frickin' good! It's a really good amount of spicy ahi that they give you (I was expecting a little scoop of it on top of tons of greens), and it's one of the spiciest spicy ahis I've ever had (next to Kochi)...but I'm just getting into super spicy things, so I may just be a spicy sissy! I've also tried other sushis from there and all was fresh and really good! I really like the Spider Roll (soft shell crab), that's always good to have! The curry though, was not that good. It was really thin and watery looking...the taste was alright, but i didn't like that it was so runny :P The place is really nice and clean - not much tables though...it can get packed at lunch time! The lady that's usually there is really sweet and nice too! read more

Highly recommend the crunch don (vegetable tempura, spicy ahi). A classic poke place that I have to return to every time I come back from college. It's gotten a little pricier over the years but still is worth it! read more

I have been coming here for years and have always enjoyed the good. It has been a couple years since I've been here, as I moved to the big island. I was excited to come back for some delicious nostalgic food, but I was definitely disappointed. For years they would substitute the poke in the bentos for cucumber maki for me, never an issue. Now, they won't. I asked why, the cashier was rude and would offer no explanation or customer service. She literally just kept repeating the word No. They took the fish out of the bento, arguably the most expensive part, but charged me full price. Seriously?! Terrible customer service for someone born and raised in this valley. read more

Manoa Sushi - Bento minus the ahi - Japanese Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

I decided to go here today because I needed to burn some time before heading back to school and I was a little hungry. Not hungry enough to have a full meal, but just enough so for something light. I had the option of McDonald, a sandwich from the various sandwich shops near and in Manoa Marketplace but I had a sandwich yesterday from Andy's and I didn't really feel like getting something fattening and greasy from McDonalds. So I decided, why not sushi? I decided to get the spicy tuna handroll and the california handroll. Their prices are a bit more expensive than most sushi shops of their quality but it tasted better than most other fast food-ish sushi places. The two rolls came out to $5.80 including tax which was probably nearly twice the price it would have been if I'd gone to a chain such as Aloha Sushi, etc. The sauce in the spicy tuna roll was the perfect amount of spiciness. It wasn't too spicy yet it wasn't too bland. I liked how they had chunks of ahi in it, rather than minced ahi. That was the first time I've tried a spicy ahi handroll where the ahi was chunked rather than minced. However, I think they should label it on the menu as spicy ahi hand roll rather than spicy tuna. The label spicy tuna, made me think it might be tuna roll (tuna salad style) with spicy sauce mixed in, like what 7Eleven has. Everything else is labeled as spicy ahi (spicy ahi maki, spicy ahi don). They also gave a lot of filling for their rolls (a lot of filling, not just a lot of rice :P) . That's both a good thing and a bad thing. A good thing because you're getting more for your money and who doesn't prefer more rather than less? A bad thing because it kept spilling out and got a little messy...or maybe I'm just not skilled enough at eating .___. lol. Overall they get a 5 for taste, but minus 1 for the price :[ read more

I decided to stop here since I was in the Manoa neighborhood and wanted to try someplace different when it comes to sushi. Had their kappa maki (cucumber roll) and thought the portions were good and decent. Can't say it was super fresh like some other places I frequent regularly, but I'm not going to be super-picky about it. It's pretty much cash only and credit cards are accepted only if it is over $15.00. read more

Get the dynamite maki or the crunch don! Manoa sushi has the best dynamite maki. I'm not exactly sure why because it's so simple but it's just great :) The tempura inside the roll is always warm and they don't use ground up ahi like other places. You can call ahead to order, but the food is always fast if you order in. *$15 minimum to use credit cards read more

This place closes early so come early. I wasn't so impressed with the nigiri, plus they got my order wrong, twice. However, the spicy ahi bowl rocked! Just the right amount of spice And the consistency of the tuna was perfect - not too big a chunk, nor not pulverized. Price is higher than some places. read more

This was our first time eating here. We had the crunch don, dynamite maki, and two orders of the spicy ahi nigiri. The good: The vegetable tempura in the crunch don was good. The bad: The rice in the sushi wasn't sushi rice, just plain (unflavored) rice. Plus it did not taste good. We couldn't figure out if it's because it wasn't washed good or if it was the quality. read more

This place has average poke, but has a good portion for the price. The poke bowl with the fried stuff is recommended so I tried it. The poke isn't as fresh and the fried bits were a little too oily. read more

I had to drop off a box at the post office and was going to get pho afterwards but I saw Manoa Sushi calling out to me... sure, I could use some tuna maki and a california roll, my basics. I ordered and it took quite a while to get my food, people that ordered after me even got their huge order and left before me. The rice was a little undercooked by 2 mins, there was hardly any vinegar in the rice, the nori was really tough - I was fighting to bite a piece off so I could eat it... I gave it 2 stars because the place was clean, brightly lit (which I like) and other people that were actually sitting and eating there all had bento boxes, so maybe their bentos are the things to get here... I also felt like it was a little overpriced for my maki and roll. read more

A friend recommended this place so we ended up here for lunch. The crunch don will be my go to meal from now on, it's so good! They have so many great options to choose from. We're definitely coming back to try other menu items. $15 minimum for card use. read more

Manoa Sushi - 1/21/17 MENU - Japanese Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

Went here for lunch today. It was tasty. Downside is cash only. I am not one to carry cash a lot... but lucky we had some! I had the Mix Tempura Don (I think that's what it was called), my daughter had the tempura udon, my son the kake udon and my husband had the vegetarian maki. What was unusual in my dish was that there were cut up cucumbers and daikon - that was different. Cute little place in Manoa Marketplace. They close early on a Sunday afternoon. We got out at 2:15pm and the man locked the door after us. I glanced at the sign and was like "Oh, my! We stayed past closing!" read more

We recently moved to Hawaii from Florida and we're really excited to try our first sushi restaurant on the island. Our experience was not good at all. First of all, there is no paper menu, it is taped to the cashier desk up front and there is no description of what each roll contains. I was frustrated while ordering because you are holding up the line if there are people behind you. The cashier also had to ask the woman (cook) in the back behind the bamboo curtain what was in each roll when I asked. Secondly, the soy sauce they give you comes in little tear packs, that hold about 2 teaspoons of soy sauce!. They did not give any wasabi to accompany your sushi! There is also no low sodium so sauce available . We had to go up to the cashier and ask for some wasabi and we're given the smallest piece of wasabi I have ever seen! About the size of a penny. I was in shock that they would give me a piece of wasabi that small. In addition, no mixing bowl was given to blend the wasabi and soy sauce together to dip the sushi in. It was very frustrating and I was sick of going to the front to ask for items that are essential for eating sushi. We ended up eating sushi with no soy or wasabi because it was impossible to do so. To make matters worse we were given about 1/8 cup of ginger. I am still not sure what they expect customers to do with one pack of soy and a penny size of wasabi and a bite of ginger. Keep in mind we ordered 5 sushi rolls! The sushi rolls were mostly rice, and very bland tasting. I felt like I ate rice only. Prices were average for the island and range between $7-12 per roll. But you are paying to get rolls of rice. Needless to say, I will not be coming back here. I feel Safeway prepared sushi is better. read more

Best spot to get Sushi if you're in Manoa. Service is great, lots of selection. Best things to get IMO: Crunch Don and the Red Dragon Maki. Fish always tastes fresh, and the crunch on the crunch don is always tasteful. Love this place, my go to spot when I'm craving sushi. Support Local! read more

This is my go to place for Dynamite Maki. I use to go to school & work at UH and would eat here whenever I could afford to. It was always a treat with consistently great food. My husband and I will drive all the way into town just to grab a bite, and we live pretty far away on the windward side. The tempura is always fresh and the spicy ahi is diced just right, absolutely delicious! My daughters favorite is the unagi don and my son loves their tempura bowls. read more

This spot is nostalgic for me. I've been a regular here for years. TIP: check out their display or photos before ordering because they have their own unique twist to certain sushi here. POPULAR: their spicy ahi. Whether in a roll, maki, or don (their don is my fave), it is always spot on. Their spicy ahi alone made me come back so many times that the workers here actually know my face haha! MY FAVORITE ITEMS: spicy ahi don, crunch don, spicy ahi maki, unagi roll, and shrimp tempura curry. I love that they are very sweet, they remember their regulars, and their fish is nice chewy chunks of meat - not just minced into tiny pieces. It resembles good quality fish, in my opinion. THEY NOW ACCEPT CARD, with a minimum of $15. One star is missing for a few small things: -I'm huge on trying to take care of the environment, and everything they serve (even if eating in) are all packaged in disposable plastic. -Continuing on plastic trash, they only provide packaged shoyu (or soy sauce), wasabi, and ginger. I hope they start using washable/reusable bottles. It's cheaper in the long run too. -They also used to provide complimentary small cups of water with your food. They got rid of that, unfortunately. I hate buying bottled water because again, the environment. And I do not really drink anything else. However I still love this place. They are worth a visit. read more

This is the most disgusting sushi I can't believe how much I paid for it! Got the dinner bento, couldn't finish half of it. The disgusting juice from the sushi leaked into the rice and squished when I bit into it! I love sushi but there is something wrong with this sushi, I can't believe I paid normal price for this gross pathetic excuse for sushi, what's waste :( read more

Our go to poke place! Love the crunch don! My kids know it's a treat when we come here!

Wasn't blown away with my Chicken Katsu Curry. Curry was so-so and waaay too spicy. I was also very disappointed to find out they don't take card unless you spend 15 bucks or more. I was forced to buy extra sushi just to make the minimum so I could use my card. read more

Got the chirashi and assorted sushi. No taste on the rice. I ended up eating everything except the rice. The rice taste cheap and dry.

This place has good cheap sushi for ya locals but the girl working decided to scold me since my 2yr d touched a picture of sushi she had hanging up on display. She was rude to me and this place is not baby friendly. It's only good for teens and adults. I would never walk into this business ever again. Their spam roll is good but not worth buying for the attitude from this teenager working here. Terrible customer service. Now I see why they have a sign on the door "hiring part time cashier". They need a better one for sure! Warning not to bring babies or toddlers into this Manoa Sushi place. The teen cashier only cares about the signs hanging, if they fall down since they are clipped by clothes pins. Gross. I wonder what this cashier thinks work is really like? Cleaning is a part of her work ethics I hope. Well not in this case. read more

After I teach yoga on Friday nights in Manoa, I bring my Japanese mother-in-law some nigiri. When I come in here the lady is SOOOO FRIENDERY! And fast! My mother-in-law is always sooo happy. read more

Not sure why my favorite sushi go-to place has only 3.5 stars :( but this place has always been amazing to me!!! They recently acquired new owners that have decorated the place, but didn't change anything about the recipes. Everything that they have is generous in portion, & yes, on the pricier side. It's okay though!! -- they load on the spicy ahi when ordering the dynamite maki! And their sushi rolls are fat and thick!! Not like the skinny ones you get from kozo sushi. My favorite thing to get is their dynamite maki, shrimp tempura maki "with spicy ahi sauce on top", Manoa bento, kid bento, and their Inari! Their Manoa bento has really good vegetable tempura. And it's not a tiny one either! Tempura is crispy and not over done! Not super oily either! The only thing that changed is the speed in which I get my food. Under old management, I got my food maybe 10-15 minutes after I ordered if I didn't call for phone order take out. When I go in there and it's crowded, it only took a 5 minute wait until I got my food. I do miss the old girls that worked there, but can't beat the fast service anymore!! read more

Manoa Sushi is probably the WORST sushi I've had from an actual sushi store. To be completely honest, I have tasted supermarket sushi that tasted better than this. The fish was just horribly dry, old, and tasteless. The rice was hard and dried out. To be honest, I was not even completely sure what I was eating at times. Even the salmon nigiri, which is my "go to," just tasted like cardboard. I tried this place before and hopes that it was just bad luck that it was so bad. But it seems that they just don't buy fresh fish and don't know how to make sushi. Please don't waste your money here. Choose one of many other low-end sushi places. read more

Told the lady for here ... got everything in to go containers Ordered 2 maki rolls, both rolls nori stale... soft, as in... not fresh Think she knew the gig was up, disappeared inside kitchen after giving me the food... sat early around 10am, no one else walked in, yeah... my bad. Ohmigosh. You have to try the Crunch Ahi Don bowl! I was skeptical after reading the reviews but I'm happy to say that I am now a true believer. After craving a spicy ahi don bowl, I decided to go out on a limb and try one at Manoa Sushi. The owner is very sweet, the service is fast, and her creation is amazing. I haven't quite had anything like this before. There's a layer of rice on the bottom, sprinkled liberally with furikake, then a scoop of spicy ahi which is surrounded by a ring of vegetable tempura soaked in a spicy sweet sauce. Note: not sure if the rice is sushi rice because I was too busy gobbling down my bowl. Will def be returning soon to get my husband addicted to this bowl too. read more

Place is fire, the crunch don is very, very good. One thing that was kind of mind boggling is they charge 2 dollars for a simple can of coke. That didn't make sense to me because there are a mcds and gas stations very close where you can get copious amounts of fountain soda for less than 2 dollars. That doesn't take away from the fact that the crunch don is fire read more

Overall cheap. We had a group of 16, ordered mounds of food. We asked for plates, they didn't have any. They gave us a couple chop sticks, not enough for the amount of food, so we asked for forks too... then they took the chop sticks back? I said, "No, we'd like both." Then they wouldn't give napkins so we asked for some... they literally gave is THREE. THREE napkins for 16 people. While waiting, I asked for a glass of water... they have me half a glass. Wtf? They acted like we we're paying customers. The sushi is meh, not bad, not great, but okay. The crunch roll is good. They forgot a roll on our order, had to go back. read more
