The service and vibes are always on point. I got to venture out a little today because we a lot of different things from our regular salmon dish (which is amazing). We got whole fish, curry oxtail, festival, wings, jerk chicken, Rasta pasta, jerk fried rice, cauliflower and my favorite of the night lamb chops. The Rasta Pasta was a pleasant surprise. This is a MUST in a Miami. The ox tail curry was literally a 10/10 no notes. The meat was cooked to perfection. The dishes are so flavorful but not spicy. The flavors are SO well balanced. Our server Jimmy was amazing. He was so sweet and attentive. Overall the food and service here was absolute Ty incredible. We saw the sign for Jrk! next door and was walked by, saw the Interior of Mangrove and immediately knew we should check this place out instead. I found this place from an Instagram video I had saved because the music seemed lively and the inside Jamaican decor was nice. Indeed it was upon arrival, no line to get in and the bar was immediately within walking distance. I didn't order any food but I got myself a Tequila Mule. They had some board games to play but it's so dark that you can barely see. Either way it's a cool, laid back spot if you're not looking to go to a nightclub in Miami. Mangrove is definitely a hidden gem downtown. It's a chic intimate Caribbean lounge, dimly lit and plays the best music. On the weekends they have live DJs. I had a salmon was very flavorful and I try the festivals I'm not used to having powdered sugar on my festivals but that's how they serve them at mangrove. They were pretty good. It is family friendly, glad we went early, by the time we finished it was busier. This is a nice spot for a date. The vibe is laid back, music in the background, great way to start a date night. Food: patties, champagne salmon, Rasta pasta, and da' traditional. All so very tasty, but my favorite was the traditional. Wish it had more rice. You must enjoy spice if you go here. The least of the spiciest entrees was the salmon. The skin was crispy and the inside flaky. The pasta had a spicy cream sauce. We were four and ordered three entrees. It worked out since we had two kids with us who usually do not finish an entree. Good portion size if you get appetizers. If you are not ordering appetizers then the portion is big enough for one. The prices were not too cheap in my opinion but I would definitely go back. Would love to have the Curry Roti. You can also visit their take out area, Jrk, next door. Let me start by saying that the customer service at this restaurant is commendable. I arrived around 6pm and my reservation was for 6:30pm but the restaurant opens at 6pm and it was basically empty except for the 4 people sitting in front of me. I was seated immediately and the waiter, Wensley (I think that's his name) immediately came over to offer water etc. I had already checked the menu online and knew what I was going to order. I opted for the braised oxtail (delicious), Jamaican style red peas and rice and a side order of pineapple glazed fried plantains. For my drink I had a red wine (which is the famous Jamaican sorrel aka hibiscus plant drink with rum and lime juice). My entire meal was delish!! Kudos to the chef and bartender! The restaurant has a casual lounge setting with relaxing Jamaican reggae music playing in the background and the volume was at the right level so you don't have to shout to talk to anyone. Would I eat here again: YES!! My only issue was that a 20% gratuity was slapped on my bill without my prior knowledge or consent. Keeping in mind that legally, a customer can decline the gratuity charge, it would be better for the restaurant to have a sign or place it on the table informing patrons of the fact that there will be a 20% gratuity so the patron can decide if they want to decline it or eat there and then. Additionally, I was there myself so the 20% auto-gratuity was a bit high. Please note that the customer can decline the gratuity charge, it is the law. I would prefer to decide the amount I would like to give as a gratuity. If and when I visit again, I will ask the waiter to scratch that auto-gratuity and allow me to tip as much as I want! This whole tipping thing in America is getting out of hand. Great restaurant and I wish them longevity and success! read more
