We originally planned to sit outside, but it was too windy so the servers were nice enough to quickly pivot and set us up inside, as well as providing each one of us with blankets! The stand out dishes were: -Amara Ceviche - refreshing, delicious and the toasted corn and sweet potato were a nice touch -Empanadas - highly suggest getting the set of 3 as each one comes with a different sauce and it was nice getting to try different combinations. Our favorite was the cheese and caramelized onions, the sweetness from the onions were really nice -Churrasco steak - nice chargrilled flavor although they seem to cook it lighter so maybe ask for medium if you want medium rare. The fries were perfect -Arroz Verde - delicious Latin inspired breakfast with the rice, beans, sweet plantains and salsa criolla Most importantly, our server Sebastian was the absolute best! Being a big group, we had a lot of requests and questions - he was so incredibly patient and kind, constantly making sure we were OK and anticipating our every needs. I came here for a quick lunch and it's such a cozy spot. It was pretty quiet during the week, and the venue itself is stunning with both indoor and outdoor seating plus beautiful bay views. They don't have that much of a selection compared to what I'm used to especially when it came to the couch of the day it's usually one or two different types of seafood. Stopped in for lunch with my boyfriend recently and tried the Miami Spice menu plus a few extras. Here's the breakdown: The bad: * Prawns -- not fresh, sent back, but still left on the bill. Not cool. * Melon salad -- bland, flavorless. * Hamachi tiradito -- poorly sliced, awful texture, also not fresh. Same story: sent back, still charged. The good: * Ceviche -- fresh, bright, and flavorful. * Tuna carpaccio -- stunning presentation, equally delicious. * Chicken empanada -- like an entire Mexican meal wrapped in a crispy little pocket. Loved it. * Oysters -- plump, sweet, and perfectly fresh. All things considered, nearly half the dishes were either not good or sent back entirely, service didn't acknowledge it, and the bill was exorbitant. As you can see, my phone did NOT eat first, and that's for a reason. This restaurant was walking distance from our hotel and we liked that it was on the water. We didn't have a reservation but were seated right away at a waterfront table. Our service was attentive and came to us right away to get our drink orders and was happy to answer our questions about the menu. My friends and I ordered the Seafood Parillada, 10oz Skirt Steak, and side of vegetables to share. There were 4 of us and it was plenty of food for all of us. Been here once before but ran when i saw they were participating in miami spice! We sat inside due to the miami summer but they have a lovely view of the water. Last time we saw dolphins so keep an eye out! Theres also a boardwalk where you can walk off the meal! The appetizers were all delicious (we tried all 3 since we were a table of 3!) The croquettes were perfectly crispy and not oily at all something thats hard to perfect. The arugula salad was so simple yet full of flavor! The main dishes we also good but only complaint was the hard rice- tasted like overnight rice at the end of the pot. The desserts were both tasty but ill go with the chocolate cake. The food was great. We had a starter course of tuna tartar with avocado créma and a entre course of some delicious chicken and grilled fish! We were in Miami and decided to have dinner in the area. My husband wanted to take me out for my birthday dinner. We were looking at different options and decided on Amara since it was on the inKind app list and it's on my bookmarked list as well. We had an InKind coupon for $50 off $150. Yesssss!!! Plus their gorgeous outdoor area sealed the deal for us. The weather outside was perfect. Went on a weeknight around 6:30pm and it wasn't too busy. although the bar was busy and the patio was busy. There was nobody sitting indoors. Our server was Nathalie and she was very nice. We started with cocktails. I got the Jalisco by Night and hubby got the Lupe Martini. My drink was good with Reposado tequila and habanero but didn't taste too much tamarind. Husband didn't love his drink, but also felt bad about returning it. We decided to try several different dishes and got the following: * Yuca Cheese Puffs with Truffle * Amara Ceviche * Aged Provolone & Caramelized Onion Empanada * Chicken & Poblano Empanada * Steak & Green Olive Empanada * Chorizo Sampler: Rojo, Lamb, Seafood * Squid Ink Torchio Food was good but didn't blow our mind. Especially at the high price point. Surprisingly, our favorite dish was the cheese puffs with shaved truffles and white truffle oil. Quite delicious actually. My second favorite was the Amara ceviche although my husband thought it needed more flavor. I personally thought it was super fresh and had a good balance of flavor and texture. The empanadas were incredibly fresh and so good! You can taste the difference with the high-quality of the empanadas compared to little shops that sell them. The steak empanadas were my favorite. The aged provolone and caramelized onions empanadas were a close second. I think the chicken empanadas were a bit dry but tasty. I like chorizo, but I don't love it as much as my husband, which is why I agreed to the chorizo sampler. Lol. I will say the rojo chorizo was the best one, so juicy and quite good actually. Lamb chorizo was just ok and seafood chorizo was meh in comparison to other two options. We really enjoyed the sauces that came with the chorizo and empanadas. I loved the green sauce best which looked like a pesto or chimichurri. Turns out it was a tomatillo sauce. We asked. So freaking good with everything! We were looking forward to the squid ink pasta. Unfortunately, it didn't wow us as much as we had hoped. The sauce was lacking and didn't love the shape of the pasta as it tasted dense. Wasn't a fan. All in all, the ambience is what won us over along with the excellent service. The outdoor patio vibe is where it's at. Incredibly romantic and just magical with the lighting and waterfront tables. I forgot to mention that our food runner was very good as well, she was very informative as she put each food item down. Did not get her name. We had a reservation and they were ready and waiting for us. We had so many yummy things where to start lol. We got a half seafood tower, cheesy yucca balls and empanadas. For a half tower it's a huge portion and everything was yummy! For my main, I did the roasted chicken and wow, was it amazing. The way they deboned the chicken left it still flavorful and juicy. Most of my party had the skirt steak and they loved it. It was perfectly cooked. One of my employees had the catch of the day and he said it was amazing with a yucca mashed potato. The servers were great. They came around often made sure that all drinks were filled at all times. I came here for a Saturday brunch and I was so surprised it was so empty because this place is a GEM. It has beautiful waterfront views and delicious food. The prices are on the higher end but I think the view made it worth it. There's a good amount of seating inside, on the covered patio, and further out with tables with umbrellas. I liked sitting on the patio since we were nicely shaded by the strong sun. We still had a nice view of the water. There's also a "coconut guy" who will make drinks (including nonalcoholic like virgin piña coladas and coconut water) and put it in coconuts. It's fun seeing him prepare the coconuts! The bathroom is clean (but small since only one sink and two stalls). I noticed there was a second floor and saw a bride and groom go upstairs so I guess that floor is available for private events. I really liked our starter and my entree. I ordered the Heirloom Tomato Galette and the Brunch Bowl and left feeling soooo full. Stumbled upon this place as it is walking distance from our AirBnb. We were greeted by the manager Casey, who was incredibly friendly. We ordered stone crab, oysters, ceviche, and some drinks. The second round of oysters we ordered a 1/2 dozen & they delivered a dozen, which we ended up destroying. My friend brought up to the waiter that we ordered a half dozen, not a dozen, but it wasn't an issue since we ate them all. They ended up compensating us with tea, coffee, and dessert. The management & staff here were so kind. If it's cold, I recommend sitting outside anyways as they have heaters and blankets ... and it is warmer. I came here for the first time to try their happy hour. I was amazed and impressed by the beauty of the interior and exterior seating areas. I had one drink and one item from the menu. The cocktail I had was highly recommended by the couple next to us and when we tried it, we understood why. The cocktail was refreshing and had just the right amount of cucumber. The curse, of view restaurants, is view is all, and to hell with the cuisine, as long as it looks pretty, in photographs. 2-1/2 people (kid). 1 kid burger. 1 small appetizer. 1 shared dish. 1 side. 3 cocktails. $330.00+ w/ Tax! For a 5-star/2 Michelin star? Maybe. Amara at Paraiso is Latin Lite - All of the appearance. None of the heart and soul of the cuisine. I knew that we were in trouble when I ordered the "Brazilian Cheese Breads" (Pão de Queijo), and the waiter asked me if I wanted them with the truffle. NOW, being a teaching, improvisational chef, I sure do like myself a good riff on a classic, BUT, I find that restaurants that resort to the McTruffle products add them to the arsenal of happy fats, sugars, and salts to mask bad cooking. Chef: You work in the Latin melting pot, with thousands of talented Brazilians who can cook. You serve up these tough little dough balls, that bear as much resemblance to the classic pão as a slice of Wonder Bread. You also have padarias, all around you, that sell the real-deal at a fraction of the price. It's embarrassing when you serve up something this bad. The Meat Parillada ($132) is the fajita plate-meets-Argentinian-rodizio grill, which is usually a combination of grilled meat and seafood. This one had precious little "skirt steak." There was a Galbi-style (Flanken-ish) thin-cut short rib that was more bone than meat, and surprisingly tough. The chorizo rojo had promise, as it cut well. The sausage filling was a sodium celebration that largely diminished some of the nice flavors in it. It, by far, was the star of the platter, though. The Amara condiments were pretty-looking, but instead of singing, as you ate them, I got the Looney Tunes theme and "Abba-dee.. abba dee... Th-th-that's all, Folks!" If it ate like the photographs of it looked? By contrast, Asador Patagonia, one of the best Argentinian rodizios in Florida, up in Palm Beach county, offers a similar shared dish, with far more going for it: short ribs, flank steak, skirt steak, chicken, salmon, shrimp, sweetbread, chitterlings, 1 sausage, 1 blood sausage and two sides of your choice. $95.00 Poolside dining. 28% less with 45% more quality food, AND SIDES. The charred squash side was simple, and well prepared. If only the rest of the dishes had this culinary integrity. Bar was slow. Just as fats are the hobgoblin of mediocre cooking, overloading sugar in mixology. They should have put a lollipop stick on the bottom of the rocks glass of my Old Fashioned. Then, the guy dropping for the bar delivers it with this caveat: "We ran out of Basil Hayden, so we added some Woodford. Is that ok? (Visualize Picard Facepalm here) Serious amateur hour. REMAKE THE DRINK, and don't bring your problems to the guest, at what purports to be a top-shelf restaurant. Service needs to be less spread out over the restaurant. Our server was a nice guy, and helpful. Too many tables, in off season that he can't get around to you. I saw him hustling to get to all of them. Not his fault. One of the other waiters checked us out, and got us some boxes. The two stars are for the wait staff. No view, and this is a struggling 3-star, in a strip mall, next to the Vape store, in the tourist outskirts, with BOGO JELLO shots on Tourist Tuesdays. Parking is hard to find. There is a valet. Bring anything much bigger than a Honda civic, and their valet will up your parking from $18 to $32. Final insult of the night? Management has the temerity to set their TOAST system to tip on the TOTAL (Sales tax is not tippable). Low class and rude enough, for people who just rely on the tip buttons. PAY YOUR PEOPLE PROPERLY, and quit the tip clip game. In Miami, we get an international crowd. Everywhere outside of the current economic black bubble that we've built around ourselves, the sky-high prices are already Tokyo onerous, and, in most places, tipping is unnecessary, other than a little bit for great great service. The view isn't enough to justify this photographically-friendly mediocrity. All of this IS FIXABLE, if the owners cared to fix it. Given what they present, I doubt seriously that they do. We ate here for Easter brunch earlier this year. We had reservations for 11 am right when they opened. There were quite a few people who had the same reservation so it took about 10 minutes to be seated, but we had great seats outside near the water. The patio is gorgeous and surrounded by little white pebbles in between the walkways. The servers and staff were all friendly. For Easter, they also had a couple Easter bunnies walking around handing out eggs and taking pics with the kids. The downside was that the food took forevvver. They absolutely were not prepared for this special holiday event. I expected that they would be since they are an established restaurant that has hypothetically done these events before. It took about 1 1/2 hours to get our food, even though we were some of the first ones seated. The food portions were also tiny, and honestly just okay tasting. But expensive! I might give it one more try on a regular day just for the atmosphere and the view and hope the food and timeliness is better, and I would order something different (maybe do dinner next time). read more
