Went during their happy hour time which is at 5:30. The establishment didn't open at the correct time and when a work did open the door you could tell they were still setting up. Stopped by Mangrove twice and had a good experience overall. It's a cool Caribbean restaurant/lounge with a nice vibe, especially for date night or hanging out. Later in the evening, it shifts into more of a lounge/party spot, which gives the place a fun energy while still feeling pretty chill at times. The food was good and flavorful, though I've had better Caribbean food elsewhere. Prices were a little high for what you get, but the atmosphere helped make up for it. First I was accosted by the loud music, but sitting there, it is somehow absorbed into the decorations and not too offensive. The decorations are beautiful and dark and intriguing. Service was great and very attentive. We chose to go with the happy hour (Tuesday - Thursday) with $5 patties and $7 skewers. The patties were good, I prefer the traditional flaky pastry, but these were were well, tasty. The chicken skewers were very good, cooked just right. I chose to go with the appetizer mussels with the rosemary, garlic sauce. The sauce, however, overwhelmed the delicate seafood and, yes, would be better suited for fish. I ended up being in Miami during their spice week and after a bit of research, everyone said that this was the place to be. We weren't able to make a reservation, but we were able to walk in to be seated for dinner. The ambience was an entire vibe. The music was playing. The host was dancing. It was just a very fun environment. I wish that the food and the service followed suit, but it did not. It took our waiter forever to even get us water and when he brought water, he didn't bring any ice and then it took forever for him to bring ice with water. By the time that he came over to take our order, there were so many items that weren't available. For instance, they had wings on their spice week menu. Everyone knows that people love jerk wings, so I'm not sure how they ran out. In my opinion, if you're known for a jerk wings or jerk chicken maybe order more or don't include it on your special menu if you won't have enough for everyone. I ended up going with a fried salmon and when it came out, it was extremely salty and I say that as a person that loves salt. I sent the dish back and they informed me that they didn't have any more salmon so I was extremely annoyed. With the spice week menu I was also able to get a pineapple rum cake, which was extremely delicious. If I'm ever in Miami again I may give it a try, but I'm not 100% sure because the service was that awful!!! read more

It was a horrible experience! I've never been so disappointed and disrespected at the same time! I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone! I went on the restaurant's website to make a reservation for my husband's surprise birthday dinner. There was no follow up or any further communication from the restaurant outside of the confirmation I received with my name, time, date and number of guests. I had invitations made and sent out to people to attend. Only to be told by a very rude, African American guy at the dj booth that there was no record of my reservation in the system. No fault of mine. He very rudely told me he wasn't talking to me because he didn't like my energy after I asked "sir are we still waiting". I asked for a manager and he told me he was the manager. What a shame. No customer service or people skills. No common decency. A lady came over to speak with me and I explained what was going on and how I had been treated. The restaurant did not acknowledge there was any kind of mistake or miscommunication. She only told me after waiting for some time that they had no room and could not accommodate me or my guests. It was very embarrassing in front of my husband who was only showing up to celebrate his birthday with family and friends. We left and went to Nouveau , who accommodated us on the spot, had a great time, employees are super nice, food is great and even had drinks with the owner. We had an amazing time. Great vibes. Such a vibe! My first visit to this small, intimate Jamaican restaurant in downtown Miami was for a Friday night date, and it was perfect. Everything was so good I'm struggling to identify which I loved the most but the Mac is top tier. I know Jamaican Mac and cheese isn't known for being the best but WOW, chef is back in the kitchen throwing down. The wings fall off the bone tender and the sauce is so good I would buy it by the bottle. For entrees we ordered the Rasta pasta with chicken and the oxtail curry with jerk fried rice. The lobster macaroni was just as rich as you would want it to be, and the wings were fire. Notably three of us were full and our total bill didn't even hit $90. I just wish the drinks were more special. We tried red red wine and is this love and they were very mid. Will have to try more to be fair but I wanted more effort in drinks from a cocktail bar. However, the service was very poor and is main the reason I would not return. I gave three stars solely based on the food, drinks and the DJ. We had a last minute addition to our party and were told we had to wait for a table to open up, which we understood. We were grateful that the male host was able to accommodate us, but the servers we had neglected our table. It took long for us to even place our orders for our meal. Once we were moved to our new table, the service got even worse. Our new server was nowhere to be found and we had to ask another employee to get him after 10 minutes of waiting. At this point we were waiting for our meals for over an hour. There were no apologies or checking on us to see if we were okay in the interim. Once we received our meals (which were delicious) we again were not asked if we needed anything else. At this point, we just wanted to pay the bill and leave because the restaurant was not that busy once we switched tables. We even observed parties who were seated after us, get their meals and leave before us. We felt neglected on purpose. After dinner, my friend Erika suggested this cozy spot to keep the night going. It's tucked away next to JRK! Restaurant (and across from Government Center metrorail; if only Miami had 24 hr rail service). The bouncer at the door was friendly and professional, and I met up with friends at a corner table. Yeah for friends who have VIP! The soundtrack was a smooth mix of reggaeton, new and golden age (early 2000s) hip hop. My libation for the night was a Dusse cocktail. When we walked in we were greeted by the staff who were very warm and welcoming! The place is spacious and nicely decorated with retro, modern and Caribbean feel. The coconut rice and peas were divine, the oxtail was good but with oxtail it can be tricky because it might be more bone than actual meat soo be ware of that. The jerk chicken was good but it lacked that spicy jerk flavor, also the sauce it comes with tasted more like bbq sauce than jerk. Overall it was a great vibe as the music was popping and the vibe was just right. The food was good but overall I wish it had more of that Caribbean taste!
