We are upstairs in a beautiful dining area, the overlook the street, with a vision of a tall martini glass in the window. Beautiful decor, upstairs and down, and outside in the front in the back of the restaurant. You can order drinks and sit outside and wait for your table to get ready and the hostess and Wait staff were so nice again definitely recommend anyone visiting the area to stop in here. Finally. After like years of this being on the brunch list, today we made it after a 5k in nearby Newport News. We rolled up around 9:30 or so and found no wait whatsoever and plenty of tables inside available for us to choose from. The patio was already full as the day is beautiful and sunny and not too hot. They have nice, clean and large his and hers bathrooms with single use only in the hallway. The decor inside is classy and elegant. Our server was efficient and very friendly and explained to us about their small business empire in town with a spa and b&b across the street and event spaces as well as this restaurant. Fabulous. Love that their business is thriving here. We chose to order the croissant basket which comes with three warm and fresh croissants with mango butter, mango jam and mango cream. YUM. I mean Y-U-M! We inhaled them. Better than expected and all three were wonderful with these light, flaky and warm fresh croissants. My husband and I split the skillet dish with eggs over easy, potatoes, grits, bacon, sausage and Texas toast with more mango jam and a parfait. Both were great and portions were just right. The yogurt was a bit too sweet for me and just swallowed whole the granola with just 3 blackberries on top so that wasn't my fav but overall everything was delicious. A very clean spot and well-run with excellent service. Our waitress did a great job. Will come back for dinner next time I'm nearby! Myself and two friends visited on a Thursday around 11am. Parallel parking on the street is available but can be hard to come by so I recommend parking in the free lot behind the restaurant, plenty of spaces back there. They have a beautiful back entrance and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating seemed to be closed though, probably due to staffing shortage but I assume it's open on the weekends during their busy brunch. We entered through the back, it's kind of awkward to walk through the whole restaurant to get to the front to be seated. We waited for 5+ minutes without really being acknowledged. Finally we were seated and ordered drinks and the croissant basket. They were unfortunately out of the Mango Peach Sangria so I ordered the Mango Breeze. We ordered our food when the drinks were brought out and I thought it was kind of weird that they don't allow substitutions. For instance, my friend got the crab Benedict which comes with a side of fruit. She asked if she could sub potatoes instead and they said no. I just feel like that's an easy substitute that if they needed to they could up charge and both parties would be happy. Unfortunately our croissant basket didn't come out until maybe 5 minutes after our food which was weird since we ordered it beforehand. It was pretty good though, I was able to try the mango preserves that they are known for. But for $10..... not sure if I would order again. For my meal I got the Two Up Two Down which had 2 slices of bacon, 2 pieces of sausage, 2 pieces of cinnamon French toast, and 2 eggs. For $16 it didn't look like much. The French toast was yummy but everything else was pretty plain so I can't really justify the price. My friends got the fried chicken and French toast and the crab Benedict. Both liked theirs but said the fried chicken was kind of small since they only included one piece with the French toast. Overall, service was lacking but they have signs on the tables asking for patience and grace while they are short staffed. I can't imagine coming here on a busy weekend for brunch. It would probably take foreverrrrrr. There are just a lot of little things they need to work on that would make a difference such as making sure there are enough syrup bottles for each table because when we visited we didn't have on our table so the waitress had to shuffle them between tables. A restaurant that is heavy on breakfast with French toast should have one on each table.. Our waitress Tatiana was nice but it seemed like she was also the bartender and had a lot on her plate. I probably wouldn't make the trip across the water to try this place out again based on our experience today. What was explained to me by my hostess was that this establishment embodies cuisines of 3 different styles of cooking...french, creole, and neosoul. I found this quiet interesting because I have yet to discover a place that actually pulls off a neosoul menu. For those of you who don't know, Neosoul is a form or music however, it is also defined as a new kind of cooking, sort of a spinoff of the original Soul Food that brings all the flavors to the plate but slashes the fat and calories. In my opinion, Mango Mangeaux has perfected this niche as well as create an atmosphere that is a new age asthetic for Neo Soul with their décor and drink choices. The interior is very Posh making it attractive and hip. The drink choices were not only beautiful to the eye but bursting with combinations of flavors. I love mimosas and was suggested by my hostess a Dusse which had 2 different fruit flavors which was divine. For My meal I aimed for something light and ended up choosing the Magnolia Shrimp & Grits which took me by surprise in a good way. Compared to the old fashioned shrimp & grits this was a flavorful delicious treat. The dish still had pan seared shrimp but was also seared with Virginia ham in a lemon butter sauce, topped with smoked gouda cheese and crispy fried onions. Nestled in the community of Phoebus in the city of Hampton, Virginia is Mango Mangeaux, a simply panache bistro. I ventured there today for dinner. Let's talk about it. First be cognizant of the hours. Silly me the website is very clear? But I showed up prior to dinner opening. Just note there is a small break between lunch and dinner, 2 and so hours to exact. After walking the block a couple of times I made it. This restaurant carried a Creole cuisine flair. So you know I had to check it out. I didn't wait long to be seated because they just opened, and our waiter was very speedy despite having multiple table sat at once. The ambiance is was clean and esthetically pleasing. Soft jams filled the atmosphere along with the chatter of guest. I noticed the downstairs area was small and narrow, but it seem to have more space upstairs. We started with our drinks. I opted for the Mango Electric Lemonade. I definitely give it a 10 out of 10, because I grabbed more than just one. The sweet tea is also good. It makes you feel like someone's grandmother made it. Then for appetizers it was combo of neo soul soup and andouille poppers. I didn't know how to feel about having greens, peas, onions in a cheddar soup, but everything about it was delicious. The andouille poppers OMG was everything. The house made remoulade is all you need. I also added a side Cesar that also comes with the remoulade. My suggestion with the side salad would be to put it in a bowl. I felt like my toppings were running off the plate as I was eating. Main course was gumbo and chicken fried chicken. Now the gumbo was good but I would have liked a little more chicken and sausage. My rice also a little hard but soaked in the gumbo It seemed to soften up. The chicken fried chicken was seasoned to perfection but also a suggestion of adding a sauce on it would be bussin'. We wrapped the entrees up with dessert. Now I got the beignets (of course) and the pralines and cream, and let me tell you. I loved the beignet but would rather take the filling on the side. The pralines and cream was amazing, yet found myself dipping my beignet in it as I indulged. My overall experience from door to table would 8.5 out of 10. I would definitely venture there agin if I'm in the areas. After reading more about the bistro I see that the owners also have a nail spa and a boutique hotel. Saw someone post this as a good spot to go when in Norfolk Va. Well...... stopped in for the first time after checking the site and attempting to make a reservation online with no luck. We were seating within two minutes. The atmosphere was inviting and chill. You had space between tables and could enjoy peaceful conversations if no 'extra' people show up. Anna S. was our server, polite, professional and punctual! Very nice menu! And as I didn't complete this asap after eating. I can't recall the names of the dishes but they were all delicious!! You will never want spinach dip again after having their collard green dip! The pita chips served with it were delicious as well, crispy and seasoned. The dip was cheesy and had a southern twang that soothed my heart. The mango spiced shrimp were seasoned nicely and had that mango flavor giving them a tad bit of sweetness. I'm not a mushroom kind of eater but the portobello mushroom was tasty with the crumble meat filler! I would eat this...!!!! The mashed potatoes with it?? The bomb-diggidy. Finally tried Mango Mangeaux for lunch. PROS: 1. The veggie burger was one of the best veggie burgers I've ever tasted hands down. Chefs kiss!! 2. The side salad was delicious especially with that yummy vinaigrette. If they don't already, it should be bottled and sold to the public (especially if the vinaigrette is made in house). 3. Although I ended up having to throw away my gumbo (see CONS for why), it smelled divine. 4. I love the ambiance. Although I did not dine there (I did a to-go order), it appears an early lunch on a Tuesday afternoon is a good time to go. It wasn't really busy. But I can understand why this restaurant is busy on the weekends for brunch and more than likely for dinner as well. They may need to consider a bigger location. CONS: 1. I did not expect to spend as much as I did for lunch. The veggie burger comes with fries. At this time, I do not eat fries and was hoping to substitute for a side salad (same price). No substitutions allowed. I should have went without the side salad as an addition, but I wanted something to go along with my veggie burger. The fries came on the side and I ended up dumping them. Personal choice, I get it, but was just hoping for a simple substitution. 2. Gumbogate. When I was given my total, I asked for it to be repeated because maybe I heard it wrong. I did not. The price of the gumbo on the menu was different from what was in their system. Even after pointing it out, the difference wasn't made for my bill. HOWEVER, the manager was so accommodating and apologized. She gave me a bowl instead of a cup of the gumbo to make up for the mistake. So this issue was a con at first, until corrected. But the other part of the issue, I ordered the veggie gumbo. I did not realize the waitress did not hear me correctly and I was given the gumbo with meat in it. After all of that, I couldn't eat it anyway. It smelled fabulous but I would've been sick if I ate it. I was more mad at myself for not realizing I was given the wrong dish before I left the restaurant. Even when my order was read to me when I was given my food, all I heard was gumbo and automatically figured I was given the right dish. Oh well. You live and learn. If I would've ate there, the gumbo would not have been wasted b/c I would have noticed the mix up. 3. In trying to figure out why my bill was $10 more than it should have been, in addition to the tax (totally understandable and warranted), To-Go orders are charged a To-Go service charge (18%). That's pretty annoying. So, I'm giving the restaurant 4 stars since I can't give a 3.75. I will return to try another dish on the menu and to get that veggie burger again (I don't eat bread right now so I'm waiting until I can eat bread again to have the full burger experience... they add a spread to the bread and I wasn't able to enjoy it. I hate that it has come to this, but at this point, it MUST be done. Mango Manguex was a complete disaster from start to finish. I visited on Sunday, April 6th and was immediately met with poor treatment. I was sat in the corner of the restaurant and politely asked to be moved--either outside, upstairs, or even at the bar. All of these areas were EMPTY. The owner flat-out refused to accommodate me with zero explanation. It felt personal and unsettling. Who wants to sit tucked away in the corner at a brunch spot that markets itself as a "vibe"? I ordered TWO mimosa flights and only received one. The second never came. Not once during the entire brunch did they check in or attempt to fix it. Then came the worst part: My friend and I stepped away to the restroom for just 3 minutes--the building is only 900 square feet with one level--when we returned, our food had been thrown away. No warning. No question. No respect. When we expressed our frustration, the owner offered no apology, no accountability, no concern. Instead, she told us she wouldn't try to rectify the situation even if we chose to come back again. After pushing the issue, she finally agreed to remake the food--but deliberately placed our order at the back of the line. We then waited a ridiculous HOUR for the replacement meal. Yes, you read that right: They trashed our food after 3 minutes, and made us wait an hour for new plates--without so much as offering a fork or drink while we waited. The entire time, the energy from the owner was hostile, unwelcoming, and full of attitude. Not once did she show an ounce of hospitality or professionalism. Just ego and entitlement. She never even asked if we wanted a refill, someone else had to step in. I have an egg allergy and wasn't able to swap my side free of charge for another side that costs the same price as the eggs... turn off. Lastly, when it was time to pay she put all of the food on one bill and only charged one card by just assuming and never asked if we wanted to split. The servers were extremely nice but it took 30 minutes for us to get pretty simple orders. My mom got the quiche which wasn't set all the way and had the saddest soft crust that she didn't even eat. I got the skillet and asked over eggs over medium but they were definitely over easy. The home fries were decent and the real winners were the mango preserves over the thick Texas toast and mango yogurt with the fruit. We've tried to go to this place several times but the wait is always long. We tried tonight on a Monday and didn't have trouble being seated without a reservation. I think that may be rare since we noticed brunch is booked for about a month and half. The server was pleasant and gave us some background on the restaurant. They offer mango tea and lemonade which we tried both. The lemonade was a bit sweet for me but I enjoyed the tea. Both are made with signature mango preserves. The atmosphere is really pretty with flowers on the table. We had fried green tomatoes which were crispy. My husband had the stuffed chicken and he was a little disappointed with the size of the entree for $20. There wasn't really enough jambalaya rice stuffing to make the dish filling and flavorful. There was more asparagus than chicken and they didn't offer substitutes of green beans instead of asparagus. A little disappointing since they are a from scratch kitchen. I had the low country linguine which had lots of sausage and heavy on the sauce. I thought the flavor was good. I would give this place a second chance as I'd like to try a few other things before ruling it out of our rotation. Came for lunch with a friend who was visiting the area. There was a wait but it wasn't bad. The hostess was very friendly, she even helped a lady walk towards the door in the back. I tried the grilled cheese and tomato bisque. I wanted to add veggies to the grilled cheese but was told there couldn't be any modifications to the items, bummer. The soup was very good!! Decided to grab some food after a hair appointment, I've been seeing a few post about this place for a while now, so glad we came here. They have a front entrance where you have to park on the street & they have a back entrance where they have a lot you can park at. I came with my two kids & boyfriend on a a Friday around noon time. This place is really beautiful inside. Nice decor, full of colors. We were greeted immediately & sat down within minutes. Our waiter was really nice & attentive. They have a few different menus for breakfast, lunch, dinner & a Sunday brunch menu. The kids menu was kind of limited with two choices. My kids went with the chicken tenders & fries which were actually pretty good, they enjoyed it. I went with the Burger & fries & it was a 10/10. The grilled onions made it even better. If you come here for brunch I recommend the Mango Bellini. My boyfriend ordered the Chicken sandwich & he said it was pretty good too. Overall the service, atmosphere & food was amazing. One of the only places to grab breakfast in the Phoebus/Buckroe beach area. I've visited a couple times on Fridays with my 5 year old trying to find the best time to come. Between 10-11AM is when I typically see a rush and there will be a wait. We arrived close to 10 and had to wait about 5 mins before we were seated. The restaurant did have a good number of diners but it was still a relaxing and family friendly environment. Everything came out quickly and was hot and fresh. You have to add sides on with their meals and the kids menu is very small for breakfast. For my son, I got the kids French toast (2 pieces), a side of the fresh fruit with fruit dip(comes with grapes, blueberries, strawberries, honeydew melon and cantaloupe) And a side of bacon (3-4 pieces) For myself I go the chicken fried chicken and French toast. This is my second time getting this. It comes out so hot you want to dig in immediately but you will definitely burn your mouth. It's the perfect balance of savoy and sweet. The chicken is perfectly seasoned and crunchy. I got two mimosas and a mango lemonade for my mini. Total came up to about $83 before the tip. read more

I got the very best service at this restaurant. We were one of the last tables of the day, but our server gave us great service. I wish that I had caught her name. I definitely felt like a cherished friend. This place has a whole vibe. I had the fish and grits, which was pretty solid. I got it because I wanted to try the mango marmalade and because it sounded like it came with a lot of stuff. In retrospect, the fish and grits is really a breakfast plate and I kinda wish I had gotten the shrimp and grits. My friend ordered the chicken and French toast and said the chicken was amazing but what she really wanted was chicken and grits with eggs. So, management, if you're listening, please create a chicken, eggs, and grits plate! I took off one star because even though the place closes at 4pm and we arrived at 2:45pm, we were initially told that we could not be seated, since we wouldn't be served before they closed at 4pm. Most restaurant kitchens close 15-20 minutes prior to their posted hours, I get that, but to turn people away one hour and 15 minutes before closing seems a little excessive. Maybe I'm nit picking, but I've never had a restaurant do something like that before. All in all it ended up being a great experience and I would absolutely go back but MAKE RESERVATIONS 30 DAYS IN ADVANCE so you don't have to wait an hour for a table. read more

Highly recommended with chunks of crawfish, loved every bite. French bread with mango butter was good as well! Was tad bit sweet for an appetizer to me but the mango butter was to die for. i took my boyfriend there yesterday for his birthday. we had been dying to check out the inside of this place for awhile since they were very popular in the area. the stars given were purely for the food experience, not the service given. Quincy was very attentive and kind, so we definitely appreciated that. we both ordered: app: missy's mussels (10/10) drinks: let me bayou a drink (10/10) mango sangria (10/10) (we had another drink, i can't recall but the drinks were really good) dinner: bayou steak and potatoes + (1) lobster tail added - both steaks were terrible. they were burnt, chewy and flavorless. the butter you see on top on the steak was what should've basted the steak. the asparagus was over cooked, and the lobster tail was flavorless and mostly tasted of whatever charcoal they used. we left with half the steak eaten on the plate and everything else we kind of picked at. a $150 food experience was wasted and i was truly disappointed. read more

Best breakfast/brunch spot in the 757. Dinner is great also. My mom always asked me to take her back whenever she comes into town. The French toast with the mango sauce is what keeps me coming back. Service is excellent. Be sure to get there early on the weekends. Gets packed quick and for good reason. read more

My partner and I went to this restaurant for brunch, on a Saturday around 11:30. We waited about 5 minutes before the hostess arrived (from outside). She asked if we had a reservation, we did not. She informed us we would have a 20-30 minute wait, even though there were multiple tables and seats at the bar available. She explained that there was a wait list of reservations. Well we didn't wait. We went to another restaurant close by. I immediately went online to make a reservation for a future visit. Note, their website doesn't mention or recommend reservations except for Sunday brunch. My husband, daughter and I visited this spot on a Friday night while visiting our daughter at college. We entered from the main street side, but there is ton of parking in back of the restaurant with outdoor seating. It's a 2 story restaurant but the bottom floor has limited tables so I assume the upstairs has the majority of space but I cannot confirm. It's reminded me a the spots I seen in the French Quarter of New Orleans. It was kind of busy but we were greeted and seated within about 10 minutes. I ordered the Mango Hennessy Lemonade, my husband had regular sweet tea(really good)and my daughter had the Dorothy Dandridge aka Shirley Temple. The server accidentally brought me a regular mango lemonade that was phenomenal (sweet) but good, so with the Hennessy addition it became dangerous drink because the lemonade and mango really masked the strength of the Hennessy and it snuck on me quick. The menu is pretty extensive with the addition of brunch options. We ordered the Neo-Soul Eggs rolls and they did not disappoint, definitely order them. I opted for the crab cake dinner with greens beans and mashed potatoes. The crab cakes were delicious with mostly succulent crab which is what one would expect but not the norm at other restaurants. The green beans were really good and seasoned well. The mashed potatoes were kind of bland surprisingly but I ate them with crab cake to add flavor. My daughter ordered the lobster Mac Cheese which was a good sized lobster tail on top of a huge portion of Mac n Cheese. It looked and tasted great! Finally my husband had the chicken fried chicken with collard greens, Mac n Cheese and cornbread...it was amazing... I barely was able to taste it because he was enjoying it so much. All the portions were generous and both my daughter and I took a good portion home. We did not try the beignets because we were so full, but will definitely be returning to try the brunch selections and beignets. Our total bill was around $120 which was good with me because I don't mind paying for good food and service. If you are in the Hampton area, it's worth a visit. read more

This is one of those - "OMG I can't forgot I forgot to finish this review" moments for me! My most recent visit to Mango Mangeaux was just a few weeks before the COVID lockdowns happened. I don't spend much time in Hampton, but Mango Mangeaux has always made the trip from the Oceanfront and through the tunnel worth it! The service has been great and the food is excellent. If it's your first time I highly recommend getting the croissants to start out with so you can taste the mango preserves that they are famous for. I ordered the bananas foster french toast and was so happy that the portion was generous enough that I was able to take a piece home with me to enjoy later. I usually go for sweeter items, but I've got to give a shout out to the Sledge Skillet here. It's amazing! It also comes with the mango preserves! There are a few other businesses under the Mango Mangeaux name, I'm particularly excited to try their newest spot - Charlotte's! read more

Wow such a fun restaurant! So many tasty drinks - alcoholic and non-alcoholic. We went for brunch but by the time we were sat down brunch had ended...which we were not aware of. We are frustrated but tried the lunch menu anyway, it turned out to very tasty as well. We tried the app bread with mango spread which we all loved! We would definitely go back to try the brunch on a Sunday! read more
