Loved it! Popped in on a Wednesday to check it out before Hampton HC festivities kicked off. It was just before noon and not crowded, but the lunch crowd began making its way in over the next hour. Service was friendly, attentive and prompt. I was immediately seated. I had mango mimosa, mango French Toast and the turkey sausage and loved everything! The flavor and seasoning of the French Toast allowed me to enjoy each bite. The turkey sausage was homemade patted and had a good balance of seasoning; not spicy nor salty. And the decor is beautifully done and very delightful to see upon entering. This is a must try if you are in the area! I'm glad yelp sent me!
Perfect brunch date and how cool that they were on Shark Tank. Went here twice-- first time with the bestie, second time on a couples date. Such a fun time for everyone! I cannot get over their mango preserve! Loved it with the fruits. Everything we ordered was delicious. We got the chesapeake benedict (yum!), chicken fried benedict, shrimp & grits, sledge skillet (amazing presentation), croissant basket, and a flight of virgin mimosas. It can get busy on the weekends so be sure to go early. Around noon on Saturday, it was about a 40 minute wait. The next Saturday, we were there at 10 am and were seated instantly. Definitely coming back and bringing more friends.
Food was seasoned to perfection! Service was quick and full of recommendations. The place is cute and cozy. I truly enjoyed my visit and will definitely return!
This was my first time visiting it. We went for a restaurant week and I was very pleasantly surprised! The food was excellent. We had the set menu that came for lunch for restaurant week. It was a lovely salad, shrimp and grits and a beignet for dessert. We also ordered the mango mimosa which was delicious.. The service was wonderful. Our server was very attentive, even though it was very busy. The ambience was really fun with lots of bright orange all over the place in this old beautiful house down in Phoebus. I will definitely go again.
Came here try out their Cajun dishes and ordered the gumbo. It was good. Looking forward to coming back for their shrimp and grits.
I stopped in for a quick bite and a beverage of the alcoholic persuasion. I wanted a speciality drink that was in their menu board but was told it wasnt available. So I ordered a mango mimosa and the crawfish beignets. I had a small wait for my food because they were making them fresh. They were light and fluffy with a delightful tangy filling and they didn't skimp out on the crawfish. I do wish there was a bit more filling since not every bite had filling or sauce. The restaurant was open and full of natural light which was a very comforting feeling. If you are in the area it is definitely worth a detour.
I have been wanting to try this place for years, but I've been putting it off. I finally went and I was surprised with the prices of the food compared to the quality. The prices are expensive but the food does not have exceptional favor and it's a very limited menu--except the beignets. The beignets were a delight--not Cafe Du Monde's, but the best beignets I've had in VA. The crab Benedict was very underwhelming--expensive with very little crab. The chicken fried chicken was decent, expensive for it not to come with a side. I would return to try dinner.
Have you ever had NeoSoul rolls? Me neither, until today! They're bomb! In short, it's your soul food favs ( greens, rice, black eye peas, Mac & cheese, etc.) wrapped and fried into an egg roll. Doesn't sound good, does it? Well I'm here to report, don't knock it until you've tried it. I really enjoyed those NeoSoul rolls especially pairing the with their mango lemonade. My daughter ordered their chicken sandwich and she gave it a 10/10! All of their food was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. The service was good and the ambiance was clean and cute. I couldn't give 5 stars because my NeoSoul rolls took awhile to come out. My daughter was almost finished with her meal by the time I got mine... but the rolls were worth the wait!
04/2024 This place never misses on the food, honestly the consistency of the food for brunch is just amazing. Kudos! I had the shrimp n grits which I've had since my 1st visit and it was delicious as per usual. Even the cup of gumbo was still tasty. Ended the meal with the must have beignets. My friends had the chicken with French toast and they both loved it. I just wish they would expand and get a bigger location, the only thing that keeps me from this place is the wait times because of the small seating space.
When I first walked in, I came from the back and it was a little offputting because I didn't know. I'll be in the back of the restaurant. As far as how narrow the space was, they didn't really have any clear " go to the front sign" so I wasn't sure if I should've gone to the bar. Again, this is really just based on how the layout is. The server came and asked me if I had a reservation and I told him yes someone who came in about five minutes before me and put one in he was kind of arguing with me that they don't do same-day reservations and I was telling him she literally just came in and put it in. anyways, once in the front checked, it's in there. He's like your table will be about five minutes. OK, no problem. I found my party. We end up walking around the area. Once we came back to the restaurant, we were seated now based solely on the Food-to-price ratio. It is on the pricier side for the amount of food you are getting. I did see some people had fried chicken entrée which looked very filling however, I got the Chesapeake Benedict as my main course and I added a side of andouille sausage and that was eight extra dollars. ..... again what I got compared to the cost doesn't balance out that much for me. The food was good however, someone else on my table got fried fish with grits. And the grits look super plain for a restaurant that is Creole-inspired.
Omg! The food the service the atmosphere! Where do I begin! This place was amazing! Ty was soo knowledgeable and helpful with our order. She was so polite and energetic! We French toast and fried salmon were just awesome! 10 out of 10 we will try again! Thank you Ty for being an amazing waitress!
Like others have mentioned, I stumbled across this gem when visiting my daughter at college. Now it's a requirement to visit every time I'm in town. We have tried both their brunch offerings, as well as dinner selections. You can't go wrong either way. The winners for us were definitely: Salmon Burger: A must try! Usually when people fry salmon, it takes away the essence of the fish. But not here, the burger is prepared perfectly. Neo Soul Eggroll: Stuffed with black eyed peas, collard greens, and cheese. Another must try! Magnolia Shrimp & Grits: Seared shrimp with bits of ham in yummy Gouda grits. Grits are super creamy and delicious. RICH GIRL PO BOY MIMOSA: A big hit and plenty to go around. Service was good and attentive. The ambiance is super cute with orange and white decor. I highly recommend to make a reservation. This place is super popular...and for good reason!
Very cute place- stopped in for brunch with the children while on a weekend vacation. I would definitely stop by again

Nestled in the community of Phoebus in the city of Hampton, Virginia is Mango Mangeaux, a simply panache bistro. I ventured there today for dinner. Let's talk about it. First be cognizant of the hours. Silly me the website is very clear? But I showed up prior to dinner opening. Just note there is a small break between lunch and dinner, 2 and so hours to exact. After walking the block a couple of times I made it. This restaurant carried a Creole cuisine flair. So you know I had to check it out. I didn't wait long to be seated because they just opened, and our waiter was very speedy despite having multiple table sat at once. The ambiance is was clean and esthetically pleasing. Soft jams filled the atmosphere along with the chatter of guest. I noticed the downstairs area was small and narrow, but it seem to have more space upstairs. We started with our drinks. I opted for the Mango Electric Lemonade. I definitely give it a 10 out of 10, because I grabbed more than just one. The sweet tea is also good. It makes you feel like someone's grandmother made it. Then for appetizers it was combo of neo soul soup and andouille poppers. I didn't know how to feel about having greens, peas, onions in a cheddar soup, but everything about it was delicious. The andouille poppers OMG was everything. The house made remoulade is all you need. I also added a side Cesar that also comes with the remoulade. My suggestion with the side salad would be to put it in a bowl. I felt like my toppings were running off the plate as I was eating. Main course was gumbo and chicken fried chicken. Now the gumbo was good but I would have liked a little more chicken and sausage. My rice also a little hard but soaked in the gumbo It seemed to soften up. The chicken fried chicken was seasoned to perfection but also a suggestion of adding a sauce on it would be bussin'. We wrapped the entrees up with dessert. Now I got the beignets (of course) and the pralines and cream, and let me tell you. I loved the beignet but would rather take the filling on the side. The pralines and cream was amazing, yet found myself dipping my beignet in it as I indulged. My overall experience from door to table would 8.5 out of 10. I would definitely venture there agin if I'm in the areas. After reading more about the bistro I see that the owners also have a nail spa and a boutique hotel. Cngrats to them for being featured on shark tank for their mango preserves. read more

Set your alarm & get to Mango Mangeaux before opening at 0900 on Sundays! This restaurant's famous name serves it well! Our breakfast & service was absolutely immaculate. Devin our server knocked it out of the park, from his recommendations to his menu knowledge. We really felt he went above & beyond to make our experience special! The chicken was heavenly, with a perfect harmony of sweet & savory, the batter was delicious & the meat seasoned to perfection! The skillet had a wonderful variety of foods to eat on, we ended up sharing amongst the two plates and loved it ! The restaurant was super Chic, from their beautiful layout to the boho decor. I love the little local history that backs Mango Mangeaux, I actually watched their Shark Tank episode- such humble owners with an AMAZING product! So blessed to have them in our city! Thank you Mango Mangeaux, we look forward to our next visit !!!! read more

Saw someone post this as a good spot to go when in Norfolk Va. Well...... stopped in for the first time after checking the site and attempting to make a reservation online with no luck. We were seating within two minutes. The atmosphere was inviting and chill. You had space between tables and could enjoy peaceful conversations if no 'extra' people show up. Anna S. was our server, polite, professional and punctual! Very nice menu! And as I didn't complete this asap after eating. I can't recall the names of the dishes but they were all delicious!! You will never want spinach dip again after having their collard green dip! The pita chips served with it were delicious as well, crispy and seasoned. The dip was cheesy and had a southern twang that soothed my heart. The mango spiced shrimp were seasoned nicely and had that mango flavor giving them a tad bit of sweetness. I'm not a mushroom kind of eater but the portobello mushroom was tasty with the crumble meat filler! I would eat this...!!!! The mashed potatoes with it?? The bomb-diggidy. My chicken fried chicken was tender, flavorful and seasoned oh so well! The collards were good as well as the mac and cheese!!!!! If I have to gig them on anything, while it tasty very good, I think I got a batch of cornbread that was a tad overcooked but again, I didn't throw it out or complain to anyone. I don't need an excuse to ride two hours to return to this spot! Skip breakfast and/or lunch to save room and check this spot out!! read more

We've tried to go to this place several times but the wait is always long. We tried tonight on a Monday and didn't have trouble being seated without a reservation. I think that may be rare since we noticed brunch is booked for about a month and half. The server was pleasant and gave us some background on the restaurant. They offer mango tea and lemonade which we tried both. The lemonade was a bit sweet for me but I enjoyed the tea. Both are made with signature mango preserves. The atmosphere is really pretty with flowers on the table. We had fried green tomatoes which were crispy. My husband had the stuffed chicken and he was a little disappointed with the size of the entree for $20. There wasn't really enough jambalaya rice stuffing to make the dish filling and flavorful. There was more asparagus than chicken and they didn't offer substitutes of green beans instead of asparagus. A little disappointing since they are a from scratch kitchen. I had the low country linguine which had lots of sausage and heavy on the sauce. I thought the flavor was good. I would give this place a second chance as I'd like to try a few other things before ruling it out of our rotation. The country fried chicken sounded good, as did the shrimp and grits and rib-eye. read more

Finally tried Mango Mangeaux for lunch. PROS: 1. The veggie burger was one of the best veggie burgers I've ever tasted hands down. Chefs kiss!! 2. The side salad was delicious especially with that yummy vinaigrette. If they don't already, it should be bottled and sold to the public (especially if the vinaigrette is made in house). 3. Although I ended up having to throw away my gumbo (see CONS for why), it smelled divine. 4. I love the ambiance. Although I did not dine there (I did a to-go order), it appears an early lunch on a Tuesday afternoon is a good time to go. It wasn't really busy. But I can understand why this restaurant is busy on the weekends for brunch and more than likely for dinner as well. They may need to consider a bigger location. CONS: 1. I did not expect to spend as much as I did for lunch. The veggie burger comes with fries. At this time, I do not eat fries and was hoping to substitute for a side salad (same price). No substitutions allowed. I should have went without the side salad as an addition, but I wanted something to go along with my veggie burger. The fries came on the side and I ended up dumping them. Personal choice, I get it, but was just hoping for a simple substitution. 2. Gumbogate. When I was given my total, I asked for it to be repeated because maybe I heard it wrong. I did not. The price of the gumbo on the menu was different from what was in their system. Even after pointing it out, the difference wasn't made for my bill. HOWEVER, the manager was so accommodating and apologized. She gave me a bowl instead of a cup of the gumbo to make up for the mistake. So this issue was a con at first, until corrected. But the other part of the issue, I ordered the veggie gumbo. I did not realize the waitress did not hear me correctly and I was given the gumbo with meat in it. After all of that, I couldn't eat it anyway. It smelled fabulous but I would've been sick if I ate it. I was more mad at myself for not realizing I was given the wrong dish before I left the restaurant. Even when my order was read to me when I was given my food, all I heard was gumbo and automatically figured I was given the right dish. Oh well. You live and learn. If I would've ate there, the gumbo would not have been wasted b/c I would have noticed the mix up. 3. In trying to figure out why my bill was $10 more than it should have been, in addition to the tax (totally understandable and warranted), To-Go orders are charged a To-Go service charge (18%). That's pretty annoying. So, I'm giving the restaurant 4 stars since I can't give a 3.75. I will return to try another dish on the menu and to get that veggie burger again (I don't eat bread right now so I'm waiting until I can eat bread again to have the full burger experience... they add a spread to the bread and I wasn't able to enjoy it. Next time). Enjoy! read more
Cute place! I stopped here since I was encountering so much traffic and I'm glad I did! The bartender was really nice and I liked the food and vibes. It was just what I needed after a long day. Simply delicious and on point with the Mango! Let's start with the ambiance! Its elegance meets a mango color scheme! I felt like I was in a high end boutique restaurant located in the heart of Hampton. The menu itself set the scene for a perfect breakfast date. Service was great, the restaurant was busy and yet the service was efficient, attentive, and super friendly! Now for the food! I got the Chesapeake Eggs Benedict which came with a fruit plate. The portion size was perfect and I absolutely loved the acidity from the fried green tomato in the Egg Benedict! My husband got the skillet which was nicely prepared and had mango preserves for the toast. This is an upscale spot to try and well worth the price! read more
Came for lunch with a friend who was visiting the area. There was a wait but it wasn't bad. The hostess was very friendly, she even helped a lady walk towards the door in the back. I tried the grilled cheese and tomato bisque. I wanted to add veggies to the grilled cheese but was told there couldn't be any modifications to the items, bummer. The soup was very good!! Next time I will try it with that crab meat addition they offer. I also got the mango lemonade which was very good. My friend got the shrimp & grits which he said was one of the best he's ever had. Definitely recommend this place to those in the area looking for a great meal from a local business! read more

Celebrated my Love's bday, and his restaurant of choice was Mango Mangeaux. GREAT CHOICE! I am a gourmand and a pretty good cook.. Avery was an excellent server. She didn't rush us and asked when we received our app if we would like for her to have the chef start to prepare our dinner.. now that's respect. Love that. The fried oysters on point, the crab cakes delicious (we are from MD and love that there are no fillers) and the lamb chops cooked to perfection! First time visit here, haven't been on this side of the water in a while. Decided to grab some food after a hair appointment, I've been seeing a few post about this place for a while now, so glad we came here. They have a front entrance where you have to park on the street & they have a back entrance where they have a lot you can park at. I came with my two kids & boyfriend on a a Friday around noon time. This place is really beautiful inside. Nice decor, full of colors. We were greeted immediately & sat down within minutes. Our waiter was really nice & attentive. They have a few different menus for breakfast, lunch, dinner & a Sunday brunch menu. The kids menu was kind of limited with two choices. My kids went with the chicken tenders & fries which were actually pretty good, they enjoyed it. I went with the Burger & fries & it was a 10/10. The grilled onions made it even better. If you come here for brunch I recommend the Mango Bellini. My boyfriend ordered the Chicken sandwich & he said it was pretty good too. Overall the service, atmosphere & food was amazing. Definitely have to come here for dinner without the kids next time haha. read more

The atmosphere was great however the food was subpar 2 of the items I was looking at they did not have settled on the chicken fried chicken sandwich it was your normal chicken sandwich, my friend ordered the fried green tomatoes and some kind of sausage balls they were ok nothing to write home about. I had a mango Mojito and she had a mango lemonade. Both drinks were OK. The waitress never came back to check on us at all. This is definitely not the hype I was expecting you read more

I've been waiting to try mango mangeaux since I moved to Virginia in July... it was so worth the wait. The food was excellent, the vibe/decor is cute without going over the top, and the service was top tier. I'm bummed I didn't get gumbo (Mississippi girl- we love some gumbo) but the mimosa flight, shrimp and grits, and amazing service more than made up for it. I wish I could remember my servers name... she worked the bar and had several other tables but handled everything so well. Will definitely recommend and hope to come back before I move again. read more

One of the only places to grab breakfast in the Phoebus/Buckroe beach area. I've visited a couple times on Fridays with my 5 year old trying to find the best time to come. Between 10-11AM is when I typically see a rush and there will be a wait. We arrived close to 10 and had to wait about 5 mins before we were seated. The restaurant did have a good number of diners but it was still a relaxing and family friendly environment. Everything came out quickly and was hot and fresh. You have to add sides on with their meals and the kids menu is very small for breakfast. For my son, I got the kids French toast (2 pieces), a side of the fresh fruit with fruit dip(comes with grapes, blueberries, strawberries, honeydew melon and cantaloupe) And a side of bacon (3-4 pieces) For myself I go the chicken fried chicken and French toast. This is my second time getting this. It comes out so hot you want to dig in immediately but you will definitely burn your mouth. It's the perfect balance of savoy and sweet. The chicken is perfectly seasoned and crunchy. I got two mimosas and a mango lemonade for my mini. Total came up to about $83 before the tip. read more
#1 restaurant in Hampton, Hands Down! Strolled in for date night with some friends. Friendly staff with top notch customer service. We ordered the shrimp and crab fondeaux. Highly recommended with chunks of crawfish, loved every bite. French bread with mango butter was good as well! Was tad bit sweet for an appetizer to me but the mango butter was to die for. Let me tell you about the chicken fried chicken though, best fried chicken I've ever had! Fried to perfection while the chicken was moist, flavorful and juicy all the way to the last bite. Mac & cheese was good as well, same goes with the collard greens. The cornbread with mango butter was perfection. Definitely worth the drive coming from Virginia Beach. Looking forward to next time to try something different. read more
i took my boyfriend there yesterday for his birthday. we had been dying to check out the inside of this place for awhile since they were very popular in the area. the stars given were purely for the food experience, not the service given. Quincy was very attentive and kind, so we definitely appreciated that. we both ordered: app: missy's mussels (10/10) drinks: let me bayou a drink (10/10) mango sangria (10/10) (we had another drink, i can't recall but the drinks were really good) dinner: bayou steak and potatoes + (1) lobster tail added - both steaks were terrible. they were burnt, chewy and flavorless. the butter you see on top on the steak was what should've basted the steak. the asparagus was over cooked, and the lobster tail was flavorless and mostly tasted of whatever charcoal they used. we left with half the steak eaten on the plate and everything else we kind of picked at. a $150 food experience was wasted and i was truly disappointed. read more
This is one of those - "OMG I can't forgot I forgot to finish this review" moments for me! My most recent visit to Mango Mangeaux was just a few weeks before the COVID lockdowns happened. I don't spend much time in Hampton, but Mango Mangeaux has always made the trip from the Oceanfront and through the tunnel worth it! The service has been great and the food is excellent. If it's your first time I highly recommend getting the croissants to start out with so you can taste the mango preserves that they are famous for. I ordered the bananas foster french toast and was so happy that the portion was generous enough that I was able to take a piece home with me to enjoy later. I usually go for sweeter items, but I've got to give a shout out to the Sledge Skillet here. It's amazing! It also comes with the mango preserves! There are a few other businesses under the Mango Mangeaux name, I'm particularly excited to try their newest spot - Charlotte's! read more

I celebrated my mom's 80th. The service was excellent by Quincy. Our food service was personalized according to discriminating palates. We asked for an outside patio sitting although the waitstaff was limited we were obliged immediately. The inside /outside were clean, disabled-individual accessible to my mother who couldn't do stairs was visible. I love the bright mango orange artworks in and around the restaurant and the bar setting had great liquor brands. What's a good time to arrive for breakfast on Saturday? Is there usually a long wait?
Arrive as close to opening as you can. Often their wait later on will exceed their operating hours and they will turn people away hours ahead of time.
But do they have bottomless mimosas?
No but they have mimosa flight with 4 different flavors and full mimosas not just a small one. BUT it's $24 bucks
